BEND OF ISLANDS CONSERVATION ASSOCIATION

The BICA Bird Survey

The BICA bird survey is carried out on a monthly basis. Members, under the leadership of Frank Pierce, meet on the morning of the second Sunday of each month.

The Bend of Islands area has been divided into three sections, corresponding roughly to different habitat types. Over a period of a few years each section is visited each month

The survey has been running for over ten years. Continuous records have been kept during this time. About 140 species have been recorded so-far. The complete list of birds for the Environmental living Zone is a summary of the records of the monthly BICA Bird Survey but it does include a few species that have been recorded on other occasions. The list is by common name and is in the order of the index of The Slater Field Guide to Australian Birds.

Recently the 100th survey was carried out and celebrated in the usual way afterwards.
