The Heidi Class locomotive was designed by Keith Watson of Western Australia, it was modeled on a Freudenstein locomotive called Golden Ridge that operated at the Golden Ridge mine near kalgoorlie.__The Golden Ridge is an 0-4-0 well tank, 20 inch gauge locomotive, weighing 3.5 tons, with builders works number 217/1905 it was built by Stahlbahnwerke Freudenstein Co A.G. Templehof Berlin.__Keith in his travels visited Kalgoorlie where many narrow gauge locos had operated and he fell in love with this old wreck he located on the site of a foundry.__A 1/3 scale 7 1/4 inch gauge model was built and called Heidi.__Keith's prolific locomotive building eventually led to the building of Loco Number 13 which is the Heidi MkII we all know so well around Australia at conventions and as club locos.__An LBSC inspired big, easy to build loco, some 60 - 70 now exist in Australia.__A big thank you to Bill Abbott for supplying the above information.
