Awards
Some exhibitions run by the the Box Hill Art Group have competitive sections for which Awards are given to the winners.
The Annual Exhibition Awards are given for "Best in Show", and for Oil/ Acrylics, for Watercolour, for Pastel and the Ken Emmett Award. With the exception of the Best in Show and the Ken Emmett Awards the Awards are for First Prize and Second Prize and, at the Judges discretion, Highly Commended Awards can also be given. First Prize and Second Prize winners receive a Certificate and a voucher from our sponsors for art materials or framing. Highly Commended artists receive a certificate. The Best in Show Award is a single Award for which the winner receives the Mayors Prize which is a monetary prize. The Ken Emmett Award is a single "Special Theme" Award to commemorate the contributions to the Group by Past President, Ken Emmett. The "Theme" is different every year. The Annual Exhibition is professionally judged and the Awards are presented by the Mayor or a Councillor of the City of Whitehorse at the Exhibition Opening Ceremony on Saturday morning. Both Exhibiting members, Student members and members of Whitehorse Arts Association may contest these Awards except for the Ken Emmett Award which is for Box Hill Art Group members only . Mid-Year Exhibition Dorothy and Rea Woodford Awards These are two single Awards which commemorate the contributions of two founding members of the Group Dorothy and Rea Woodford. The Dorothy Woodford Award is given for the best "Work on Paper". The Rea Woodford Award is given for the best painting in Oils or Acrylics. The Awards Presentation Function is held on Saturday, the final day of the exhibition. There is also a demonstration or a talk at this function. End of Year Exhibition and Competitions The Awards for this Exhibition are the Merv King, Arthur Markham, Non-Imitative and Popular Painting Awards. These awards are professionally judged except for the Popular Painting Award. There is a Winner and, at the judges discretion, Highly Commended Awards. All awards consist of Certificates. The Merv King Award is for Oil or Acrylic paintings. The Arthur Markham Awards are for Works on Paper. The Non-Imitative Award is for a work which is non-realist or abstract. The Popular Painting Award is decided by popular vote of all present at the End of Year, Christmas Function which occurs on the Saturday at the end of the exhibition. All Awards are presented at this function. |
