Welcome back to rowing for 4th term. We hope everyone is coping with the fitness and rowing sessions and that the blister situation is under control. We have not had much trouble regarding hot weather yet, but please be prepared for it and bring a hat, sunscreen, and drink bottles to training. By now most of you will be aware of which crew you are in, and what days you attend for fitness and rowing. There has been a degree of confusion and so I have had a rethink and a shuffle of crews times, and this is where we are at now. The following is current crews and coaches and training times 1 Mel G. Please note that we have endeavoured to please as many of you as possible re the training times but acknowledge that some of you may not be as happy. If you are unable to attend the session set aside for you and your crew, please see me ASAP. If any of you are sick and will not be at your designated training time you must ring your coach and let them know before hand if at all possible. Remember that now the crews have been formed you will be working together to get prepared for the forthcoming regattas. As mentioned previously you are all expected to be attending both the Dimboola/Horsham weekend NOVEMBER 14-16 and the Warrnambool/Hamilton weekend DECEMBER 5-7. I expect that you will all get a row at these regattas and the weekends will be fantastic fun. DO YOUR PARENTS KNOW ABOUT THESE COMMITMENTS? As there will be about 40 of you attending we will need at least 5 parents to come and help with cooking and generally helping out over the weekend. Please ask your Mum and Dad, and if they can come let me know. There will be room to bunk down with us all in the Footy club or they may prefer to camp at the adjacent Dimboola Camping ground. For those who prefer a bit more comfort the motels in Horsham or Dimboola may be more to their liking. Some parents may be unable to attend but may be able to help out prior to the regatta in other ways eg shopping so also let me know and I will delegate a few jobs closer to the time.
BENDIGO REGATTA Last weekend was the Bendigo regatta and any of you who attended will know that it was a great day. All crews competed extremely well and some of you have a mug or medal or two to add to the trophy shelf. Well done to Melanie G, Rebecca D, Susannah and Bonnie coxed by Samantha: Rebecca E, Prue, Brooke and Tilly, coxed by Abby and Jeremy and Nick again coxed by Abby. Also the girls teamed up to have a convincing win over Banks Rowing Club in the Womens Novice 8. It was a fabulous row and you really showed great teamwork to set the boat up for such a great win. Abby needs a special mention as it was the first regatta attended after a short "career" as cox and she headed home with 3 trophies. Fantastic and well done. Another special mention needs to be made of Ellie Harris, who willing gave up her day from 7.30 am until mid afternoon, to "man" the expresso machine. Although others helped out too, Ellie cheerfully slogged it out for most of the day. A BIG THANKYOU for all the willing helpers on the day and for all the food you all donated for our regatta. I believe we made $4000 or $5000
UNIFORMS Those of you who do not have a Zootsuit please arrange to have $55 made out to R Deacon (or cash) and I will order them for you via mail order on my Visa card. I would like to order these next week so please see me ASAP with your money.
FEES There are still a few (about 3) of you who have not paid your annual fees of $140 plus $50 joining fee to the Bendigo Rowing Club. These will need to be paid by your next training session because if you are not a financial member Rowing Victoria Insurance does not cover you.
BREAKFAST On the subject of money many of you still owe for last term's breakfast and this term too. If you did not pay last term @$1.50 a time please give $14.50 in a named envelope ASAP If you did pay as you went last term, then you only owe for this term @$10 for 7 breakfasts. ROSTER: Oct 27th Smith and Griffiths Nov 3rd Bradbury and Carr Nov 10th Cherry and Dobson Nov 17th no training as you will be exhausted from the fun and games of Dimboola (and so will I) Nov 24th Edwards and Fricker Dec 1st Greenwell and Harris last morning Dec 8th No training as this is after the Hamilton W/E
MONTHLY CLUB DINNERS This month we are having our club dinner at the Lake View Hotel in McCrae St on Mon 27th Oct at 6-6.30 instead of at the BRC clubrooms. If you and your family are able to make it, please RSVP to Richard or Rosalind on 54393779 before the night. The Lake View was one of our sponsors for the regatta and we are showing our appreciation by having the dinner there this month.
FITNESS Please make a big effort to work on your general fitness over the next month. Dimboola rowing races are 750m and Hamilton are 1000m, so if you are competing in 3-4 races or more a day, fitness is paramount and makes for a far more enjoyable experience. Any one planning on competing in the Head of the Yarra will need to be building up to 30 min ergo's over the next few weeks. Remember to warm up and cool down and stretch well before and after each session.
Happy Rowing Rosalind Deacon on behalf of the Junior Rowing Coaches
