The inspiration for this project came from Alana Johnson who spoke at The International Women's Day function in Benalla last year and asked the question, Do you know your mother's mother's mother?
This sparked an idea that has developed into two groups coming together to encourage the women of Benalla to write about their female forebears. We realized that the history of women in the Benalla District is largely unrecorded and so we hope to rectify this.
We propose to create a compilation of stories about our local women through the ages to record their contribution to our society.
We invite you to write an interesting story about a Benalla district woman- to include one, two or three generations (max 600 words for each).
Writers and researchers may wish to volunteer their services to help to write about past local women who we feel need to be included in this book.
Write your story about your ancestor's life and their contribution to the district whether they were involved as volunteers, in business, education, religion, medicine, farming, fostering, home activities or any other areas of life.
Find out more and find out how to contribute a story.
