It has become evident over the last year or so that we have an 'image problem'. That is the general public confuse the Group with the Benalla Historical Society - two quite different organisations.
We want the public to be aware of the work of the Group that we know includes researching family history also known as genealogy and researching local history.
Some confusion that has reached the Committee is directly related to the use of the word 'history' in the name of both organisations. As the Benalla Historical Society is most unlikely to change its name we believe it necessary to change that of the Benalla and District Family History Group.
After reviewing all submissions made during the last few months from members on the matter of the Group's name, your Committee decided that the most popular name be chosen.
Therefore we propose that the group be renamed to Benalla Family Research Group Inc. and that it be sub-titled 'for family and local history in Benalla and surrounding districts'.
