Regular racing and Sailing Training at Eppalock

So far this season we have conducted 10 races holding 2 each Saturday afternoon. We had one day when conditions where too rough and all racing was abandoned. For results go to the Sailing page.

We have also been holding regular training sessions every second Saturday morning from 10am. Members and Non-members alike are all welcome to turn up and learn a bit about sailing. The format is casual so it doesn't matter if you haven't attended previous sessions and there is no cost. Check our Sailing Program for dates.

Following a very successful opening day on the 18 October where we saw 9 boats compete in a couple of casual trophy races the season is now properly underway with the first 2 races of the Pre Christmas series sailed on 25 October.

Results are available from the Sailing page.

8 October 2008

Congratulations Glenn

Bendigo Yacht Club congratulate all the Australian Sailing Team for their efforts in the 2008 Olympics, particularly club member and Silver medalist, Glenn Ashby who sailed with Darren Bundock in the Tornado Catamaran class.

15 June 2008

AGM and Annual Presentations

The AGM and Annual Presentation was held on Saturday 14 June at the club.

Congratulations to Doug Carswell and Rowan Gillies who are the club champions for the 2007-08 season and also to Dirk Vandervoorden, John Snowdon and Ken Mann who won the Commodores Trophy (Performance Handicap for the same series).

There is currently no planned sailing events for winter 2008 but there is currently enough water (6.5%) in the lake for some casual OTB dinghy sailing and some trailables are also taking advantage of our sunny winter weather.

22 April 2008

Drought Buster Regatta

This was a huge success with 64 boats entered. From Bendigo YC we had 4 boats; Jacob McDonald and Sarah Floyd on their Laser 4.7s, Mick and Tom Floyd on their Mosquito and John Snowdon and Anthony Wall sailing John’s Sea Bita.

Other country clubs represented included Cairn Curran, Yarrawonga, Mokoan, Albury Wodonga, Lake Learmonth, Colac, Gippsland Lakes, Lake Boga, Loch Sport, Nagambie and probably a few more! 2 races were held on Saturday in a perfect 15 knot southerly breeze. Another 2 races were conducted on Sunday morning after a short postponement in a lighter 6 knot southerly.

Saturday night a BBQ (spit roast) was held at the club which was a great social event that was thoroughly enjoyed by all. Yachting Victoria and Port Melbourne YC put some money on the bar, the food was excellent and a juke box provided music for the evening.

It is likely to become an annual event it all went so well.

Photos etc on the PMYC site.

Results on the PMYC site.

Sailing at Eppalock

We now have enough water to do some sailing. Over the last few weeks there has been quite a bit of activity out at the club on Saturday afternoons. Two weeks ago there were 7 boats being sailed by 14 people including two potential new members, as well as a few extra onlookers. It was a beautiful autumn day with a nice 5-8 kt breeze.

This coming Saturday (26/4) we will again be having social sailing out at the club. This should continue each Saturday through May. At present the sailing has just been casual with some trailables cruising up the river a bit and the dinghies scooting around the main pool. I am hopeful that we will soon have some buoys organised and be able to set a course for some social racing.and we are considering running a winter series over June, July and August.

3-Feb-2008

Sail Inland

The next Sail Inland event will be held at Waranga Basin on Saturday 9th and Sunday 10th of February. As we are a combined team with Waranga Boat Club this is our ‘home’ event.

As usual an invitation race will be held on Saturday afternoon (3 pm) followed by a social dinner at the club. This is an ideal opportunity to catch up with other members from Bendigo as well as those from Waranga, Mokoan, Yarrawonga and Albury Wodonga. Overnight camping is free for this evening.

On the Sunday the two heats of the Sail Inland series will be held back-to-back starting at 09:30 hrs.

It would be great to see as many members as possible over at Waranga Basin sailing. If you are not planning on sailing we do need help to staff one of the rescue craft. This will be the start/finish boat.

Please contact me (Mick Floyd) by email or phone (4floyds@gmail.com or 5441 4777) if you are able to assist with race control.  We would also appreciate an idea of who will be attending the social evening on Saturday to help organise catering so please let me know if you plan on being there.

Club Championship Series

The next two (and final) races of this seasons club series will be held at Waranga Basin on Saturday 23 February starting at 13:30 hrs. We hope to see you there.

29-Nov-2007

A re-sail of two races will be conducted this Saturday (1 December 2007) at Waranga Basin. The usual starting time of 13:30 hrs applies for the first race and the second will be sailed back to back.

Anyone who would like to come over but not sail is very welcome. We can always use a hand with the race management, either on the rescue boat or on land in the race control cabin.

The next scheduled races after this weekend are in a weeks time on Saturday 8 December. The following day (Sun 9 December) is the Waranga Boat Club Trailable classic.

16-Nov-2007

Heats 5 and 6 of our Waranga Basin series are on this Sunday, 18 November.

The scheduled start time has been deemed to be a little early by most competitors so we are planning a one hour postponement to make the start 1030 hrs. There will be two races back to back.

Heat 4 of the series was abandoned due to lack of time and wind. This race will now be re-sailed on Saturday 1 December.  WBC will be conducting two races that afternoon. The first will be the re-sail of heat 4, the second will be a trophy race.

22-Oct-2007

Our Opening Day last Saturday was very successful with over 80 people there. Everyone enjoyed a pleasant day with some taking to the water in small dinghies for a casual sail while others just socialised at the club house.

The season was officially opened by Allan Johnson, our first Commodore, with Glenn Ashby also saying a few words. Greg Williams (City of Greater Bendigo) and Dan Luscombe (Goulburn Murray Water) were also there as were quite a few past Commodores and members as well as plenty of current members of course.

Information about our Club Championship series which is to be held at Waranga Basin in conjunction with Waranga Boat Club is now available from the Sailing page. You can download the Notice of Race and entry form there. The first two heats are scheduled for Saturday 27 October.
