"MILLINERY  MODES"

The exhibition "Millinery Modes" was opened in August 2008   in the  Museum's Irene  Say room. It depicts two millinery shops c1905 and c1960 where ladies are enjoying "retail therapy" selecting a new hat for spring. They are being helped by shop assistants.

These two eras provide a striking contrast -

c1905 shows the extraordinarily large, ornately and heavily trimmed headwear of the time, whilst c1960 displays small,
ornate, close fitting 'dainty confections'.

Also to be seen in the earlier era, are millinery hoods, blocks, fabrics, trims and decorations.  A variety of men's hats are
shown on the hall stand.
