The
Board approved a new project to be undertaken by the club this year.
We are going to support two projects in the Solomon Islands, one
which may continue for a couple of years. We are supporting a
project to build a water supply, toilet blocks and a community house
in the village of Oriore. The
second project is to raise funds to support the National Council of
Churches, who through their Simply Sharing Week aim to raise
awareness and funds to train out-reach workers for the Solomon
Islands. A fund raising evening will be held on the 24th
of February 2007. The cultural group of the Solomon Islands
Association will perform and the Honorary Consul, Mr. Reg Hodgson
will attend.
The
committee will also support other Rotary programs. We have donated
to RAWCS (Rotary Australia World Community Service) and we support
the ongoing work of ROMAC (Rotary Oceania Medical Aid for Children)
with a member of our Club being on the District Committee.
The club was honoured to host a visiting group of Rotarians
from D2340 in Sweden during October. This was a great time of
fellowship and learning.
