NewsYep, that flag is well & truly flown!!! Our tram adventure to Fly The Flag was a total success! Congratulations cubs & scouts, you were great. And big thank yous to the parents who helped so much. I'm creating a special page for it, so send me any photos you have. I'll set up a page for everything. But here's a teaser:
Our tram movie (Quicktime .mov, opens in a new window) Get well Gene, get well Akela We were concerned to hear of district leader Gene's accident on his motorbike in WA recently. We've made a card, & we hope we see him again soon. & now Akela is ill, and has just got out of hospital himself! WHAT is going on??? We've made HIM a card, & we hope we see him again soon as well! Farewell Scuzzy Sad to say, Janeen (Scuzzy) has been forced to give up her Bendigo commitments. Work in melbourne has made it unfeasible for her, so we have had to say goodbye. Scuzzy will link up with a scout group in Melbourne, and that's good news at least. Enjoy the wine glasses, and think of us whenever you have a drink! Cubs have planned a crazy term this year; with some very exciting events coming up. This year celebrates 100 years of Scouting with stuff happening all over the world. Watch out for street parades & a giant birthday cake in Melbourne, breakfast at Government House and more... Please note new cub starting time: 6:30pm every Tuesday
Also, we promised a trip to Zone 3... & it will happen; it's been moved to early 2nd term. |

BRING $15 to cover 2 bowling games, PLUS a Kris Kringle present, about $5 value, suitable for either a cub or a scout.
We're sorry the weekend camp couldn't go ahead; Akela & Bagheera are hoping to arrange a camp in the hall. After all we're now experts with tents and Trangias!

NewsAhoy there me hearties! Neville never looked so mean (except the time one of the cubs tried to joyride the Harley). Akela's bloody knife flashed in the darkness. Swords clashed. Screams. Yells. It was your typical combined cubs/scouts pirate night. As well as costumes, Neville organised a challenging treasure hunt across central Bendigo, with prizes won pretty evenly between cubs & scouts. Akela won worst joke of the night with his peg leg (you can work it out). And the pirate feast afterwards... fantastic! I will NEVER forget those dog poo cakes. Enjoy the Photos Fastest Scouts The scouts won in the 2006 District Billycart Derby and took home the trophy for 'fastest team'. Great work! photo of trophy soon - any action shots? Cubs in Term 4 Here's a run-down of all the cub meetings for rhis term. Congratulations to Akela for getting this organised!
Anzac Day March 2nd Bendigo was well-represented in this year's Anzac Day march & service. We were just beind the district flag bearers, who were just behind the Guides, who were just after the cadets, who were... After the formal stuff we walked back to our hall; and Bagheera got the barbecue out, & couldn't help picking a few things up, then some more, then everyone was into it! All 150+ tentpoles (no joke) are now in one place & tidy, the tents are stacked, the carts are untangled. We even swept the floor. No Tracks, but we found the way! Sunday looked to be cold & wet, but we set off anyway, and escaped the rain at the No Track Train Race. 4 carts raced a variety of heats. Our cubs were up against strong opposition (almost every other racer was older than us!), but we kept going. And won the Courage Award!
Callum And a big thank you to Xavier's dad, Chris for building a stunning train for us. The bell and the cow catcher looked fantastic. It won the Design Award! (photo soon). We owe him a barbecue! I missed the TV news, but WIN had some good shots of us. Thanks also to Belinda for getting us involved, and putting so muc hard work into preparing and running the whole show. Another thank you goes to the parents who ran the drinks caravan, which raised oner $100 for 2nd Bendigo. Thanks also to the leaders and other parents who came out & helped so much Change of cub meeting night It's just too hard to shuffle the other users of the hall, so the cub meeting stays on Monday, 7 - 8.30pm Love the new floor coating ... just don't don't mark it! And where's the bin? Water sports What is that huge raft doing in the shed??? Yes the one under the huge billycart! Darwin Defenders commemoration On 19th February 1942, Darwin was attacked by 280 enemy planes. In a similar way to Pearl Harbor, the defences were not ready, and there was great loss of life and property - some estimates say over 1100 killed. Darwin was repeatedly attacked, and there are many stories of heroism that have been kept secret until very recently. 2nd Bendigo was privileged to act as an honour guard for a special ceremony to celebrate the Darwin Defenders, as they are known. Thanks to Callum, Zeb, Izaak, Matt, Stuart, Xavier and Amalie (& mums & dads of course!) for being there. And they get a special badge for it. There was a picture in Monday's Addy, too. I'll see if I can find it... New members
Bring a bottle Bring a water bottle to the weekly meetings. This will cut down time wasted queuing for a drink. New badge winners:
If you think you're up for earning a badge, ask the leaders. They'll probably say yes. It's up to YOU to start the ball rolling! Tell us if you have won a badge recently. Our connected community There's a new page telling people about the benefits of joining our community. Have a look ! |

NewsFood food food! Cubs had two break-up eats this year (why not?). The 2nd last night saw us have a snack & a drink to finish the year; then the last night was a great success decorating biscuits. Alex, how much icing have you got there??? Before that we had our fast food crawl. 5 outlets in less than a kilometre! Bendigo has got the lot! Three intrepid cubs & their support team (a mum, a dad, a brother, 3 sisters, Akela & Bagheera) went to the Castlemaine Billycart Derby, & took away the prize for Best Team! We are champions! Stuart, Matty & Mitchell did well against much bigger teams. The only trouble was, they didn't get much rest between races.
AND on Sunday we went on 1st Strath's Bike Hike! 2 scouts - Ted & Paul, & 2 cubs - Matty & Henry, turned up; and rode the 14 km course. A bit of sealed road, but mostly 4WD track & a bit of rock-covered walking track! A great effort, rewarded with a great barbie at the end. Thanks to Ardel & Amon for adult support & tons of snacks. You'll have to ask the boys who had the best fall... was it M, H, T or P??? New badge winners:
We had a great time with Scuzzy's car rally for the first night back. Some peole weren't sure about a new resident to a town running a night-time car rally, but everyone found their way to the finish (though some took a LOT longer than others!) Congratulations to our new members, too. It's good to see new people come in & get involved. We've had several new cubs arrive, and a couple of old cubs are now new scouts. I even heard a rumor of Venturers... Joeys? |
