There were 9 junior grand finals held in the morning, followed by the presentations at the Buninyong Tennis Centre.  Premiership cups were presented to the winning teams, while trophies were also presented to the most consistent player in each grade.  The BDTA wishes to thank all those who assisted with the BBQ and presentations.

In the afternoon, Mt. Clear played Napoleons in the senior A1 grand final at Mt. Helen.  Mt. Clear swept through the opening six sets to claim its first premiership since 2003.  Led by Geoff Reese and ably supported by Steve Drummond and Steve Frost, Mt. Clear was always in control in the men’s doubles.  They won 8-4, 8-2, 8-5 and then Paula Bandy, Raylene Reese and Andrea La Franchi wrapped up the pennant 8-6, 8-4, 8-5.

Warrenheip met Ross Creek Blue in the A2 grand final at Mt. Clear. Warrenheip took home the A2 premiership after its first grand final win since 1995.  Joanne Beattie combined with Mary McDonald and Angela Beattie to win her doubles 8-1, 8-1 while her brother Rodney Beattie combined with David Nice and Andrew Beattie to win his doubles 8-6, 8-2.  Second mixed combination Mary McDonald and Andrew Beattie completed the win for Warrenheip to end a four-year grand final losing streak.

The A3 and A4 grand finals were played at the Buninyong Tennis Centre.  In just its second season in the BDTA, Mannibadar defeated Mt. Clear Green to win the A3 premiership.  Ken Sharpe, Derek Mason and Peter Fraser were dominant in the men’s doubles, 8-1, 8-2, 8-1, while Helen Sharpe combined with Helen Mason and Belinda Fraser to win her doubles 8-2, 8-3.  Mannibadar completed the victory in the men’s doubles, 8-6, 8-2, 9-8.

The closest match of the day saw Napoleons win the A4 premiership by one game over Buninyong Blue.  Napoleons Nikki Fitzpatrick teamed with Judy Hoffman and Kerry Day to win her doubles 8-3, 8-3 and Stephen Russell won his doubles with Andrew Nelson and Geoff Cook for Buninyong 9-7, 8-5.  Buninyong won the first and second mixed sets 8-2, 8-6 to take a commanding lead in the match.  Needing to win the last mixed set, Napoleons mother and son combination Judy and Shane Hoffman won the set and the match 8-1.

Rokewood and Ross Creek played the A5 grand final at Mt. Clear, with Rokewood going on to win back-to-back premierships.  Rokewood’s Jason Mills, Troy Richardson and Matt Sculley played the team into a commanding position by winning the men’s doubles 8-0, 8-2, 8-6.  After dropping the first women’s rubber 7-9, Rokewood’s Narelle Richardson teamed with Chandelle Sculley and Emily Banks to win her doubles and the match, 8-4, 8-0.

The end of season senior presentation night was held at the Buninyong Golf Club.  A large gathering enjoyed finger food and entertainment by popular local band, Crash Captain.  Premiership cups were presented to the winning teams along with most consistent player awards in each grade.
