BRUNSWICK'S HOT GOSS #47

October / November

The Brunswick Cycling Club is proudly supported by

WALSHE & WHITELOCK REAL ESTATE

Tatts Cup, Tour of Sunraysia, National Club Championships, Melbourne to Warrnambool.

In a word…..Will Walker. Yep you guessed it Will has hit a bit of form taking the Tatts Cup series by 4 points from David McKenzie and fellow Brunswick rider Domenic Gatto who hasn’t long returned from racing in the USA.  Consistent finishes were the key to Will’s success as he never finished out of the top 10. He then travelled north to Mildura for the Tour of Sunraysia and snatched the overall honours on the final stage! Not happy with being some 600k’s from home he headed a further 1500 odd klm’s to Mooloolaba for the Club Nationals and rode the Gold medal time in the time trial and silver in the road race and then in the biggest race of them all he takes on the best and leaves them all in his wake to be the youngest ever winner!! Next up is the Sun Tour, Go Will!!

Other Brunswick dudes at the Nationals were Casey Munro who came in 12th behind Will in the Time Trial and Will’s younger brother John placed 4th in the U19 road race.

Oscar Vigor made the journey and enjoyed the “National” experience along with the Drapacs.

Midlands in the snow:

3 Brunswick riders battled the course and conditions in the Midlands Tour, it’s a tough race and with rain then snow at Daylesford and Trentham it was survival of the fittest.  Domenic Gatto, whose Northern Hemisphere tan is fading fast, and Pistol Pete Trigar were having a red hot go with Domenic finishing 4th and Trigger 9th.  Andrew Gannon battled the conditions and finished 15th overall and 4th in C grade.

Domenic and Andrew also saddled up for the Warrnambool with Domenic a strong 7th and Andrew in his first attempt at the 300k monster making it to the finish line, awesome effort guys!

Brunswick Unpaced (IRTT) Club Championships:

Yes it’s something us “old” riders take for granted - the “unpaced” title, but riders who are new to the sport often ask what is the unpaced championship?  It is of course the Individual Road Time Trial.  The event that Michael Rogers seems to be very good at!!  Well the World Champion equivalent at the Brunswick Unpaced Championship for 2004 in the Elite Category is Dylan Newell who pumped the 32k’s in a shade over 45mins.  I think his average was 43kph.  It was a good day for time trialling with overcast conditions and a slight breeze that was beginning to pick up for the return leg.  Someone who must be happy with their return to competitive cycling is Ross Mueller, now if the surname sounds familiar it’s because Ross’s name is up on the Honour Board in the 90’s as Club Champion, his younger brother Gary is on the board in the 2000nds and their uncle Gert is there in the 60’s!! and next time you are in the clubrooms find the Club Team Championship photo that has their dad Klaus in it (I think late 60’s), anyway Ross scored the Silver medal.

In the U17’s Oliver Philips rode strongly all the way to take the Gold.

U15’s saw Bevan Newell push Oscar Vigor to the point of exhaustion but just missed out on the gold. Oscar 1st Bevan 2nd.

U13’s These guys have been at it all season, the three amigos! The result Warren Moore Gold, Hector Vigor Silver, Josh Vicino Bronze.

The Women’s title goes to our Secretary Jenny Kisler who once again attracted the wrath of the local magpie!

Brunswick Road Championship:

Near perfect conditions greeted officials a few Saturdays later for the Club Road Championship and they were treated to a great race where the “young Lion” Diesel Dylan Newell conquered the “Club Gun” Pistol Pete Trigar.  They traded attacks from the first ascent of Bald Hill and after 3 laps locked together it came down to a titanic sprint duel.  Only 30 seconds behind, another equally exciting duel was being played out between Matthew Speed and Andrew Gannon who managed to peg back the breakaway to just 15 seconds at one stage by working strong turns together.  But who would have the legs to take the Bronze if they didn’t bring the break back?  As it turned out it was Matthew.

The Juniors once again showed the big guns how to race a Championship with some classy displays on offer for the spectators at the finish.

U19’s saw Philip Byrne remember to bring his bag with him this week and go for gold and got it while the U17’s saw Daniel Doherty clinch the win from Oliver Philips.

U15’s Once again saw the now familiar battle between Oscar Vigor and Bevan Newell with Oscar securing the Gold from the hard charging Bevan, this track season will be very interesting between these two!!

U13 results were a carbon copy of the T.T. with Warren 1st Hector 2nd and Josh 3rd.
