Ian Stewart

Ian Stewart was a footballer with great talent, he was totaly fearless and his style of marking whilst backing into a pack became his trademark. Stewart often became the target of the oppossition because they to became aware of his great talent. Stewart won St.Kilda's Best and Fairest in 1964, and in 1965 went one better by winning his first Brownlow Medal. Twelves months later he would win another Brownlow, and in that same year he would also win another Best and Fairest, All Australian selection and be best afield in the 1966 Premiership side. But Ian Stewart would soon make his way over to Richmond and in 1971, won his third Brownlow Medal. He was also part of the 73 Premiership side, then he retired in mid 1974, but was talked out of it to play a few more games in 75. Ian Stewart took on the coaching job at South Melbourne, then Carlton for a brief period, then returned to the Swans again as coach from 1979-81.
