Tradition and lifestyle of the Australian Aboriginal Bangerang people relied much on the Murray river environment. The Murray river provided for the Aboriginal Bangerang people rich source of food as well providing shelter and raw materials for weapons and utensils.
During the summer months great meetings between neighbouring tribes would take pace. Ceremonies were held frequently and social gatherings provided an opportunity for the exchange of goods to take place between tribes from different areas.
The occurrence of flooding of the Murray River played an important role in the seasonal tribal movement of the Aboriginal Bangerang People. Small groups of people exploited the rich resources of fish and other aquatic life in the area throughout the year but during certain seasons much larger groups gathered on the rivers and lived on foods gained from them. In this, the activities of the Aboriginal Bangerang people, movements and the hunting methods they employed showed a seasonal rhythm in step with the seasonal variation in the river flow.
