Balladonia Roadhouse Caravan Park, Balladonia
Click here for park details on My Park List
915 kms E of Perth, 219 kms E of Norseman, 181 kms W of Caiguna, on the Eyre Hwy. The first roadhouse on the Nullarbor heading east. Like all caravan parks across the Nullarbor it is an extension of the roadhouse. Ph: 08 9039 3453. Dogs on leash. Pets to be kept on leash as there is 1080 poison bait in the surrounding area.

A good Nullarbor park, onsite hotel/motel facility with meals available. Caravan park is on eastern side of roadhouse away from service station traffic and noise, choose own site near modern power outlet, no water or sullage, use tank water or camp kitchen water for cooking, code-lock for amenities. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($28 2A). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, no rec room, basic camp kitchen. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families.
Likes: big open campground with quality power connections, plenty of room to spread out from other vans,
Dislikes: $28 price seemed excessive compared to Eucla ($20) which had better amenities, but same price as Caiguna (small park) and Cocklebiddy (noisy generator). Male amenities only had 2 showers, 1 toilet, 1 urinal.
Parking: Large open parking area at Roadhouse, book in at servo.
Local Information: Balladonia Rocks - ask at roadhouse, Afghan rocks 14kms East, Roadhouse has a small museum attached containing large parts of Skylab crash.
Roads: Eyre highway to/from Balladonia in good condition, wide, open Highway. be aware of road trains, and oncoming escorted wide loads, whenever a Police escort, get right off the road.

Very friendly staff. Poor value for money ($28 2A, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites. Basic camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents.
Likes: Amenities block was fairly new & clean.
Dislikes: No water to connect to van, tank of drinking water had tap approx 3" from ground so had to ladle water into container, no mobile/internet service, very expensive for what it was, dirt to sites, no TV reception, no radio reception, "camp kitchen" old and basic.

This is an overnight stop. Its advantage is that it's close enough to Perth (915 km) to make it in daylight if you drive pretty much all day. The hot water for the showers is scalding, and the comfort setting changes every time someone turns on a tap. Leaky tap handle washers meant that a stream of this scalding water is happening while you are trying to shower. We needed to put a flannel over the taps to be able to have a shower properly, and it was too hot to remove afterwards by hand. Needed a thong to flip it clear then cool it. A little maintenance would go a long way to fix these things. Average staff friendliness. Reasonable value for money ($22 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is bad. Mostly unlevel sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, poor water quality. Basic laundry, good rec room, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: No water. Power only to site.
Parking: No
Added Touches: There is a small museum at the roadhouse with the largest piece of Skylab there from when it crashed.

This park is fine for an overnight stay. We have stayed here 3 times in recent years, but found the amenities were not very clean on this visit. All sites are drive through, and it's just pick your spot when you arrive. The amenities would not cope in peak times, but we haven't seen the park full on any of our stays. Power only, no water or sullage. Reasonable value for money $22 for 2 adults. Pool at motel, and playground at roadhouse. Camp kitchen and barbecue area. Meals available at roadhouse.

This is a nice park, just pick a site anywhere near a power box, there are a few around, can keep hooked up on nearly any site you want. Also has a little camp kitchen which is great, and the amenities needs a key code, and is free for the showers. The roadhouse itself has a museum and plenty of room for parking. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($16 1A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites. Good camp kitchen, kiosk, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: A nice stop over on the Nullarbor, nice showers and just relaxing
Parking: Plenty of parking around
Local Information: They roadhouse has a museum
Roads: Great highway, can overtake or pass no problems

Typical roadhouse caravan park, free form sites, park how you like, gravel surface, uneven ground, limited shade, no water or sullage. Small amenities block, would be severely stretched if more than a dozen vans in park (men's amenities had a single toilet). Bore water, good pressure and hot. Rain water tank at amenities for filling jugs etc but not caravan tanks. Good meals at roadhouse, small interesting museum there. No point dressing this park up - it's perfectly adequate for an overnight stay and that's all anyone is likely to need it for. Price of $22 2A for powered site average. Would stay again.

We paid $25.00 2A PN and were provided with 2 tokens for the showers. Large, open area alongside the roadhouse. There was power on site but no water. The amenities were clean and in good condition. Roadhouse staff were very friendly. There is a restaurant but not tried. Unleaded petrol was 192.9c per L.

Very basic caravan park on the Nullarbor. The sites are gravel and level and $25 for 2A PN powered, which includes 2 shower tokens (8 mins each). There is no water at the site but a tap is available at the end of the amenity block as well as one in the basic laundry. The amenities have keyed entry (deposit required) and were clean with plenty of hot water, good flow. Each block of unmarked sites has a raised 'platform' about 4' x 12' containing the power poles and are meant to take 4 vans but as there were only 3 vans booked in when we were there we used the platform as a mini slab to enter the van without standing in mud etc.

This park is very sparse and dusty, has spotless amenities and a roadhouse with very good takeaway food (not cheap) but you are in the middle of nowhere. The power generator does run all night but it did not worry us. The powered site cost was $25 which I suppose was ok, considering the weather was bloody cold and we were able to run the heater for as long as we liked. The TV reception was good also from memory we had 4 channels, at least we did have entertainment for the night. Diesel which I didn't buy was $1.74 per ltr.

This is an okay park, not many powered sites, the generator is right next to the caravan park so quite loud, but didn't keep me up though. There is TV reception and good but no mobile phone reception. There is a laundry and you need a key for the amenities. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($25 1A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, drive-through sites, mobile wireless not available. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: It was a good stop for crossing the Nullarbor. A pub/restaurant next door if you wanted a meal.
Dislikes: It was a bit noisy from the generator but you need to expect that.
Parking: Ample parking around the roadhouse
Local Information: Not much to see, there is the Eyre Bird Obseratory about 30 km down a 4WD track but didn't go there.
Roads: A good highway with plenty of room to overtake.

None of the roadhouses across the Nullarbor are luxurious, but this was probably the worst. The generator was right next to the caravan sites and was noisy all night. The showers were full of mildew and congealed dust in the ridges around the edges. Showers worked on a token system of which you were given two when you booked in. There is food and drink available in the restaurant. Basic TV reception available. There is no water across the Nullarbor but all roadhouses have fresh rain water for drinking. Being close to the highway expect to get a lot of traffic noise at any time. Friendly staff, no complaints. Poor value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded. Basic laundry, no rec room, you can use your mobile wireless. Noisy, open and roomy, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.

The Roadhouse campgrounds across the Nullarbor are all quite similar -very basic, open areas, with the bare necessities. Cocklebiddy is just like that - friendly staff, amenities smelt clean, were clean, no taps to van, but a tank with drinkable water. The generator was not a bother, nor was the traffic. There was ample hot water for showers, via a token system included in overnight cost. Food and drink available in the restaurant. We really enjoyed the experience of crossing the Nullarbor and knew to fill water tanks and take drinking water for the trip. Cheapest petrol at Mundrabilla, most expensive at Balladonia. No mobile or internet reception available from Eucla to just before Norseman, so be prepared to be out of contact for a couple of days. There is a small playground, no pool. TV reception available. We put our dish up and got the signal very easily. If you want electricity and a safe place to stay, this is satisfactory. Have stayed in worse "proper" caravan parks.

The place is pretty run down and needs some money spent on maintenance it to justify even the lower than expected price we paid. It seems the park has just changed hands so this may change, but the new owner is no advert for customer relations. Disappointed in the amount charged for the family price, but less than what we would have been charged in Kalgoorlie. Unfriendly staff, no complaints. Poor value for money ($44 2A 2C per night, powered, off-peak season). We paid $35, not sure why the difference to the advertised price but this was the price quoted when I enquired - both list price and actual price was for 2A 2C. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Noisy, not enough shade, a few permanents. Dirty gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. No pool.
Likes: Cheaper than the very expensive parks in Kalgoorlie. Good pressure hot showers.

There could be some confusion with the 2 parks in this town as they are basically next-door to each other. Both parks are on Bayley street (which is also the main highway.) The new managers had just arrived the day we got there so, of course, they were still getting settled in themselves. Overall, this park is quite good with several on-site cabins also. NOTE: A quick look at the caravan park next door, (called The Haven) was sufficient for us to see that we wouldn't bother staying there. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. $24 2A per night, powered, off-peak season. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate Large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. This is a private caravan park and is not funded by the local shire as is Bruce Rock. We had the caravan and motor home show in Corrigin in September - 220 motor homes and caravans attended this event. We can cope with larger amounts of people as we do have a large overflow area in the form of the football oval next door including toilets showers club rooms and a kitchen the size of any 5 star restaurant. This park uses instantaneous gas hot water in our amenity block and is set at the safety temp of 37 deg and does not alter day to day, year to year, so there is adequate hot water. We have an Olympic-size swimming pool next door and and adventure playground in oval behind the park.

Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean gas bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: The grass sites were for overnighters only while longer stays were on bitumen surface which was very difficult if you wanted to put up awning/annexe with poles, ropes etc.

Have stayed here before and like it. Basic caravan park with what you need and a quick walk to the main street. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($23 2A per night, powered). Mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. I have just spent a few days with my caravan club at the Cunderdin Caravan Park (privately owned). Nice clean park. Good amenities (albeit only two showers in each male/female amenity blocks), blue metal ground covering in park and sites (beats gravel) so no mud in the wet. Price was $20 a night although this may have been club price, not sure. Very helpful owners, only just taken over and very keen to get more business. A few working locals in park, but kept at one end of park away from tourist sites and well behaved, etc. Also some tourist cabins and some backpacker units, camp kitchen building, TV, fridge, microwave, sinks, lounge etc. Is close to railway line and east/west passenger train and good trains go by from time to time. Park is on Perth scheme water (Perth/Kalgoorlie pipeline), lots of powered sites, a couple of streets off main road and walk path from park to shops (IGA supermarket and other shops etc). Local attractions are the Ettamogah Pub (modern theme interior/exterior, good meals etc) and fantastic museum nearby with some really good exhibits including earthquake house and history on pipeline among many other things, tractors, old school and railway carriage, etc, well worth the visit. I would stay there again for one or two days if passing through.

Dowerin Roadhouse & Caratel Park, Dowerin

Park is on the S side of the Goomalling-Merredin Rd (Goldfields Rd) just past Stacy St when travelling from Goomalling. Check-in is at the Dowerin Roadhouse on the N side of the Goomalling-Merredin Rd and before Stacy St. Ph: 08 9631 1135. Pets allowed.
The park is managed by the roadhouse on the opposite side of the road. Average staff friendliness. Poor value for money ($15 2A, powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: This park was extremely disappointing. Dowerin hosts WA's major agricultural field day and because of this I expected the park to be top quality. It was far from it. The drains in the men's ablution were blocked. The only other park occupant was using the women's ablutions. I used my van en-suite. The concrete parking slabs were broken and uneven. The roadhouse staff advised that they know about the drains but there was no money available to fix them.
Parking: If travelling from Goomalling park on the street before the roadhouse, check in and then move to the park. When travelling from Meriden enter the park and then walk across the road to the roadhouse.

Eucla Caravan Park, Eucla
Click here for park details on My Park List
726 kms east of Norseman. 12 kms W of S.A./ W.A. border. Part of roadhouse/motel complex at top of Eucla Pass (on Eyre Hwy). You need to check in at the roadhouse before continuing down to find a site. Ph: 08 9039 3468. Dogs on leash.

Eucla is an 'up-market' roadhouse. There is a caravan park, a bunk house, motel, petrol station, restaurant and kiosk. Also close by is a Nurses Station. The park is all gravel and has very little shade. No water or sullage. The cost was reasonable at $20.00 2A PN. Check-in is at the petrol station and you are told to choose your own site. We found the park to be quite confusing as the sites are not marked. The amenities are clean and in good condition. Soap provided but hand towel dispenser was empty during our 2 day stay. There is a $1.00 charge for showers. Basic laundry but no washing lines. Unleaded petrol was reasonably priced (by Nullarbor standards) at 176.00C per L. Border Village is approx. 13kms away. There is no need to dispose of fruit and veges if heading into SA until you reach Ceduna (500kms away).

I thought this was the best park on the Nullarbor; it is very easy going as you are told to pick a site and most are very easy to get into. Gravel base throughout the park and a lot of the sites (which aren't marked as such) are drive through and some have shade. You only know they're a site because there is a power pole and there is no water to sites. There is a BBQ shed/shelter and the amenity block is nice and clean with adequate facilities. The view from the van park is great and it's quite a pretty area. Good value for money at $20 2A PN powered site, plus $1 coin shower for 5 mins. Mobile coverage means you can also use your Telstra mobile internet with good reception (4 bars). Book in at the garage and then go onto the van park down a very pot-holed laneway.

Remember this is the Nullarbor. One of the better parks on the Nullarbor, big open park with no roadhouse generator noise, no water or sullage, no booking or site allocation, pick a site next to a power point, expect an early start with onsite rooster, not really a problem as most people on road early to next destination, $1 coin shower for 5 mins. Friendly staff. Good value for money ($20 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower. Adequate number of tourist sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Basic laundry, good camp kitchen. Quiet, open & roomy park, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Able to stay hitched, no generator noise as in other Nullarbor roadhouse parks, good clean facilities, hot showers and toilets.
Parking: large parking area outside roadhouse / service station, book in at servo, 200m further on to caravan park / camping ground.
Local Information: Eucla township and roadhouse, motel, caravan park complex sits on top of an escarpment overlooking the historic Eucla Telegraph Station ruins approx 4k'ms S towards the ocean, easy access on good gravel road via rear of motel complex next to caravan park.
Roads: Eyre Highway across the Nullarbor is a good quality wide bitumen road with no surprises.

This park is rated keeping in mind its very isolated location. We found it convenient, very well priced and ticked most boxes. There is no water to the sites but they are flat and drive-through. The facilities were clean and large with a reasonable cost of $1 per shower. The only complaint was there were a few permanents in the park and one had a couple of very noisy roosters. However, given the park is mainly a night stop over for 99% of users, the early wakeup call did not cause too much problem. In fact most were getting on the road by 7am to tackle the distances either east or west. No dump point and signs asking not to dump in toilets. Mobile phone and internet both available with good signal strength. We would stay again.

Not a bad park, very popular and will become full or close to it each night. Sites are easy to find and most are easy to get into. A restaurant on site and also a bistro, you can only order from the restaurant if you sit inside not outside. The bistro wasn't that nice a meal, would of preferred the restaurant. There is a path from the caravan park to the restaurant which is well lit. Friendly staff. Good value for money ($20 1A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. UC, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Great stop across the Nullarbor and things to see in the area. A little town in the middle of nowhere. There is a hospital and other facilities there.
Dislikes: The meal wasn't that nice but it was a nice park, and nice things to see and walk around with the dogs.
Parking: Plenty of parking at the roadhouse/motel where you check in then continue down to the caravan park which is about 200 m away.
Local Information: The old telegraph station, the whale, there is a museum but I didn't go there, nice walking around the roadhouse and seeing the things there.

We paid $30.00 2A PN on a powered site. The park is situated on a sheep station and is very much an 'oasis' with some lovely, old buildings. We received a nice, friendly welcome. Most sites are drive thru's and are divided by shrubs. No water on site or sullage. The park has cabins and a bunk house. Small but clean and modern amenities. There is a charge of $1.00 for showers. Fraser Range Rest Area, Fraser Range
There are two rest areas at Fraser Range and they are only 2 kms apart. The western one is on the north side of the highway and has an eco toilet and a very big parking area with lots of lanes leading into the scrub where you can find a level park and shade if you want it. The toilet does have a little basin inside and it had a dribble of water when we stayed overnight there. Very quiet at night and there were about 6 vans/campervans etc using it at the time. The other rest area at the eastern end is on the south side of the highway and sits on top of an escarpment with quite a pretty outlook. This area is fairly small with a limited number of parking sites and also has an eco toilet. Additionally it has a dump point which was in good condition when we visited. Overall, it is a better stop than the western one if space is available.

Wave Rock Caravan Park, Hyden

5 kms east of post office, at Wave Rock. Driving past the main township of Hyden it is a few mins further turning off at the Wave Rock sign. Ph: 08 9880 5022. Dogs on leash.

Very dry and dusty when we were there. The welcome was reasonable - the flies were very friendly as well! We quickly purchased fly nets for the hats - and they did not give up until nightfall making it difficult to sit outside for any length of time. The park is relatively flat with easy access - some sites a little undulating and we needed to chock up one side. The area has obviously been in drought and the park was showing it. The central meeting place was good and the showers and toilets were excellent - although only two of each accessible while we were there. The rock is worth a look and there are some interesting pieces of art in the town - figures welded up from old scrap. At $35 a night (which included the $7 rock entrance - charged for each day we were there) - probably a bit rich for what the park is. We stayed two nights, but probably only needed one to see the rock and the town. I got mobile reception in the car with a larger aerial - it was good reception just down the road. Mobile internet was more problematic - got it twice with an external aerial - but generally non-existent. Very strong reception for both in the town - did the emails down by the oval. Lots of movement very early both mornings as the area caters for fleeting visitors - so don't expect a quiet sleep in. If I rated just the showers and toilets it would be pretty high, but in overall terms, impression, sites, level of maintenance - generally it is low. We had other reports on the road that the park down the road (Tressie' Caravan Park and Museum) was new and the facilities impressive - but it is 17kms from the rock. Might be worth a look as the rock can be done over in half a day, including the Hippo's yawn - and then you need to drive to other highlights of the area anyway. Wave Rock did provide a voucher for 4 cents off fuel in the town - at $1.40 for diesel - only a top up for us (but then charge $1 for using a credit card). Glad we went there - but won't be in a hurry to go back.
Likes: Close vicinity to Wave Rock
Dislikes: Dry, dusty, undulating sites. Flies!
Parking: Plenty of room
Roads: Good access by sealed road. We travelled up from Albany and while the road became skinnier the more N we went - it was pretty good.

286 Burt St, Boulder. Don't be confused with the Discovery Holiday Park, South Boulder, just S of here. This park is about 2 kms west of Boulder, and about 10 mins drive into Kalgoorlie, but is listed as Kalgoorlie. Coming into Kalgoorlie from Coolgardie, you turn right into Gatacre Street and go past the airport on the right. If coming from the S through Kambalda, continue on the Goldfields Hwy, turn left at the main Street of Boulder, Burt St, park is approx 1.5kms on the left. Well signposted from both directions. Ph: 08 9039 4800 or 1800 004 800. Top Tourist member. No pets allowed.

Friendly management. We paid $32.00 2A PN before Top Tourist discount. Large, open & roomy park. Tourist sites are level and large. Some have slabs otherwise gravel. Camp sites are grass. Not a lot of shade. Some permanents and cabins - both in separate sections. Large camp kitchen. Amenities clean and in good condition. Soap provided but no hand drier or paper towels. Good size laundry. Medium size pool. No playground or jumping pillow. Dump point. Good location between Boulder and airport but no airport noise. Management provided a breakfast for Australia Day but unfortunately we missed it. Happy Hour every Saturday evening in the camp kitchen.
Things to do: visit The Super Pit lookout and view the blasting, WA Museum, The Mining Hall of Fame (closed during our stay), a Brothel tour (n/a during our stay), the Royal Flying Doctors.

Likes: Lovely wide sites with wide lanes were easy to get into and plenty of room to park the car beside the annex
Dislikes: Loud radio piped through the amenities
Local Information: Worth a trip up the hill to view the Superpit; quite awesome. The 3pm tour at Questa Casa Brothel in Hay Street Kalgoorlie is very entertaining, book through the Information Centre or turn up at 2:55pm at the pink door.
Roads: Note if coming from the south via Kambalda then direction signs tell you to turn left prior to Burt Street. This road goes past the jail then turns right and joins with Burt Street beyond the shopping area. When coming out of the side street turn left. Local council is in the process of installing 'bendy' speed restrictors in the shopping area of Burt Street and they are very narrow to negotiate a van through.

CONFUSED There are (at least ) 3 Discovery Holiday Parks in Kalgoorlie-Boulder. 1 in Kalgoorlie and 2 in Boulder. This one is in Burt Street (main street of Boulder) - it's down the bottom end about 1.5 kms from the historic shopping part of the street. Turn off the Goldfields Hwy straight onto Burt Street and travel about 3kms - park is on the left. Don't confuse it with the other Boulder Discovery Holiday Park. A neat park - blue metal sites, so no dust. Quite spacious with good access to all sites. Plenty of facilities (4 BBQ areas, 3 laundries & amenities). However, we just couldn't get our head around the fact that the toilet dump is actually in the laundry with no separation of dividing wall at all - not very hygienic carrying (potentially dripping) toilet cassettes past people who are sorting their washing etc. A big no-no in our opinion. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($33.30 after TT 10% discount 2A, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites. Good laundry, no rec room, camp kitchen, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition.
Likes: Abundance of facilities. Easy access to sites. Sites well marked and spacious. Kids playground is by key entry.
Dislikes: Just the one big thing - a dump point inside the laundry
Parking: Plenty of room on street outside park entrance - most customers park vans at reception though (in contradiction of the "No Standing" sign)

Resort single cabin. Misleading photos (which are still there 7mths later) show a full sized fridge with separate freezer and a full sized oven - and it is because of these features we booked the cabin in the first place. All these cabins have is a bar fridge, microwave and hotplates. When we pointed this out to reception they questioned our claims but appeared apologetic after we showed them the web photos but said the park was full and there was nowhere else to move us to - no discount was offered. The manager was going to be advised and the photos corrected - this has still not been done seven (7) months later (May 09). Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Well signposted whether coming in from Kambalda or Coolgardie. A very large park with a variety of accommodation from tents through powered sites to ensuites (2), cabins etc. Reception polite, given local information but no offer to show to site. Tourist sites level and quite large, some drive-through, most of them away from permanent sites at back of park, moderate shade. Most access roads wide. Most sites appeared to have annexe pads, were level, good water pressure, sullage points. Reasonable lighting at night. Two amenities blocks, appeared adequate although could be stretched if park full. Clean and well maintained, good hot water pressure, showers had curtains, mop provided. Hand basins and soap and drying facilities. Laundry in both amenity blocks. Other facilities included well maintained pool, children's playground, wireless Internet ($5 for 30 mins, $15 for 24 hours), camp kitchen, free BBQ area well away from most sites, boom gate security, toilet dump points in both laundries. Near airport but no noise problem. Twenty mins walk to Boulder shops, 5 minute drive to IGA supermarket, 10 minute drive to central Kalgoorlie. Price of $34 2A for powered site before discount considered on expensive side. Suitable for short or long stay.

We had a great stay at this park this time around. New management were doing a great job landscaping and much need repairs on the park after it had been run down by pervious managers. I found the new staff to be very helpful and pleasant went out of their way to help. We were impressed how the young lady in the office went out of her way to help us after hours as my husband was not well. They have a lovely pool and playground for the children. Very much a family environment. Amenities are a bit tired looking but all efforts are now being made to tidy them. I must say there are a few too many long stay people I noticed that put me on edge a wee bit. Park looks rundown and has lots of permanents. Unfortunately there is not a lot of choice if you have a dog, the other park that takes dogs is on a par with this one. This used to be a Family Parks member but now Acclaim own it although they will honour FPA members discount. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Walking distance to Centennial Park great for cycling and walking with dog.
Dislikes: General rundown appearance, blue metal on sites. Amenities old and needed upgrade. Management changes hands regularly.
Local Information: Good choice of mining tours and other tours. Interesting town due to its history. Good town for all kinds of shopping.

Manager's name is Merv and Laurel Trestrail. This park has been open 6 years and is gradually being upgraded all the time. Trees are still growing. Gravel all over the park, but well kept. Likes: Amenities were spotless and shower heads face away from entry. Park well thought out. Owners were extremely helpful with advised us on the area and even onto the next leg of our trip advising about roads and what to see along the way.
Dislikes: Probably the dirt, but considering they don't get rain too often, it can't be helped

Note: The road shown on most maps between Hyden & Norseman as a track / unsealed is in fact 300ks of unsealed road, generally gravel, but in quite good condition, took a 21ft conventional caravan over no problems at all and saves having to go via Kalgoorlie or Esperance to Norseman. Check locally though on the road condition first as the councils/shires do close the road if wet to prevent excessive damage, and you do not want to travel it after heavy rain anyway.

Manager's name is Laurel & Merve Trestrail A new park (2-3yrs ), everything still as new, meticulously maintained. Very friendly owners. Park set up on a section of the farming property to give Merve & Laurel 'something to do' while the boys took over the farm. The museum part is Merve's lifetime collection, will conduct a tour for a gold coin donation. I personally dislike museums generally but it was interesting even for me. Didn't personally use, but the facilities in the camp kitchen are just unreal in standard and equipment. 4 TV channels rebroadcast over the park. BBQ's free and spotless. Fireplaces provided, move your own mobile fireplace where you like with sack truck provided, free firewood provided. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. A perfect place if visiting wave rock and area, far better than in Hayden itself. Intended staying 2 nights, stayed 4. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Peaceful, open & roomy park, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Dislikes: One downside is little shade as the trees are still small, no pool otherwise the rating would have been 5, and the playground is very minor as it was still being developed.
Parking: Plenty of room, all sites are drive through, individually controlled site lighting so no problems with bright lights in bedroom windows.
Added Touches: Fires allowed and wood provided.

Manager's name is Jeanette & Morrie. This is an update on our last report. The park has new owners & and they are in the process of cleaning things up and adding extra amenities etc. Apart from that things are much the same. Tariff has increased to $130 per week, or $35 per night (correct figures) 2A per night, powered, off-peak season. After the floods early this year the Supermarket has been closed. At present only very basic items may be purchased in Laverton. The park shop is the single source of goods. Extremely expensive (Milk $4.50/ 2 litres, bread $4.50, meat pie $4.50). Suggest you stock up in Kalgoorlie before coming here at the present time. At this time of the year the park has quite a few prospectors coming & going. Most of these are more than willing to share their experiences with you over a couple of drinks. Locals give the friendly traveller quite a bit of good advice.

Likes: There is only the one park in the area, so you take it or leave it.
Dislikes: Only gravel, no grass. The gravel retains and reflects the heat.
Local Information: Lots of historical sites to visit. The local council is currently doing a lot of work on improving access and road quality throughout the area.
Roads: If the proposed complete sealing of the road to The Alice is carried out, this area will become a real tourist mecca. Also it will become a shortcut through to Perth. The existing roads are quite good. Even the dirt roads that we travelled on were in good condition.

What a treasure. This is a very clean and well maintained park behind the roadhouse. The Billabong (rec room) was air-conditioned, had free tea, coffee, milk, sugar and ice water. A widescreen TV with satellite coverage supplying heaps of channels and two very comfy arm chairs to watch TV, plenty of other tables and chairs. Another surprise was a lovely above ground pool that was exceptionally clean and we made good use of it. There was no laundry as such but there was a very good washing machine in the Ladies. The staff at the local IGA store (where you pay your park fees) were very helpful and have a great knowledge of the area. There is a new swimming pool in the middle of the town, 100m from the park. Evidently the area around Agnes is very popular with the metal fossickers. There is a great information centre which caters for just about everything; including a no-charge book swap area. Not a large town but it certainly has some character and the people are all very friendly. Hats off to everyone involved in this town. $15 2A per night, powered, off-peak season. Travelling west from SA this was far more appealing than the previous caravan areas - set off the highway with nice trees, not just a car park. Definitely the best choice for camper trailers or tents this side of Caiguna, all the others seemed solid bitumen. Park around the edges if you want less compacted dirt to peg into. Amenities about what you'd expect, though the ladies' demountable was newer and nicer than the men's double-brick. Rating was improved by the really nice people we met, both staff and fellow travellers. Went to the bar for dinner and drinks, not overpriced and the food was tasty and well-priced (pub grub). Would definitely aim for this spot again when hopefully doing the Nullarbor again - it's a great drive. Don't miss Head of Bight (especially if it's whale season, apparently), entry is only $5 per adult and kids were free I think. Fuel only varied by 12c a litre all along the Nullarbor - most expensive were Border Village, Nullarbor and Caiguna.

This is one of the few caravan parks on the Nullarbor which is off the road a bit, and with some shade. We like it because it looks and feels bush, yet has hot showers and workable toilets. The rate paid is typical for Nullarbor roadhouses in our experience. It is over-priced for what is offered, but then, if you want hot showers and flush toilets, this is pretty much what's on offer throughout the Nullarbor. There aren't a great number of powered sites, and they are somewhat uneven. Tent campers have a number of sites to choose from. The amenities are, well, workable. The gent's toilets are old and not in good repair, but get the job done. The ladies have a newer block which is not shabby, and is at or above the quality found in other overnight spots on the Nullarbor. Staff are friendly. Restaurant okay. Have not tried the pool. No taps for water; best to bring a bit extra. Friendly staff. Poor value for money ($25 2A, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. No wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, no permanents. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Its bush atmosphere, not like the car park-like caravan parks commonly found on the Nullarbor.
Dislikes: Men's toilet blocks are need of some repair.
Roads: The Eyre Hwy is a good road; even had adequate shoulders, especially on the WA side.

This is a basic but nice park, not a lot of sites, and if you arrive late, hard to find a site to fit a van in. You are given a token for the showers but it takes a while for the shower to heat up so you don't get a long shower if you want hot water. Basic bush park, but a nice one. There is a motel reception where you check in, not the roadhouse. Friendly staff. Good value for money ($20 1A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites. Mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. No bbqs. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.

Situated just off the highway at the foot of the pass. Looks more like a wayside bush stop excepting it has power points. Ground is uneven and there are no designated sites. At $25 per night (2A) it is overpriced. There are a couple of rusty wood-fired BBQs and a swimming pool that, during our stay, was full of dirty water and closed. The ladies and disabled amenities are in a fairly new 'relocatable' and, I'm told, everything is of a very acceptable standard. The men's, which I used, had no urinal, only one working toilet cubicle two showers and thousands of moths. The shower was excellent with the flow hot and strong. It was only five mins before leaving the next morning that I discovered I had used the former ladies (now a men's) and there was another men's amenities hidden around the back, with a urinal, two toilets cubicles and two more showers! Reception staff were very friendly. Meals, drinks and internet access were available in the motel attached. No mobile phone reception. A useful stop-over on the Nullarbor.

Advertised desalinated water, pool & internet cafe. On the road across the nullabor these were very appealing. Pool was closed, no desalinated water - in fact had to get drinking water from toilet hand basin in a jug - staff told us there were big signs across the nullabor telling everyone to bring their own water! No internet facilities. Very poor management.

Typical roadhouse caravan park, no frills, uneven gravel freeform sites, park how you like. Limited shade, no water or sullage. Amenities old and a little tired but clean, appear adequate for numbers, water is desalinated and quite soft, good pressure, hot. Food and bar at hotel, also pool. Park quite adequate for overnight stay; no reason to stay longer. Price $25 2A for powered sites overpriced for what park provides.

Typical Nullarbor roadhouse, no water, sullage, bbqs or pool, just an expanse of reasonably flat gravel with power boxes. The amenities are reasonable with no extra charge for shower, but there is no mirror. Only 2 of 4 power boxes were working, and 4 of 6 fuel pumps were out of order in the roadhouse, so maybe it is being run down, however it has the cheapest fuel across the Nullarbor. Unlike some roadhouses it is on the main highway and not set back, and the caravan area is beside the roadhouse and not behind, so you get some road noise. We have used this park for several years, since 2000, as we cross from WA to the east, or vice versa. It is handy, has okay sites, and the amenities blocks are a bit above average for caravan parks located in country towns. However, in July 2010, the fee for a powered site increased to $33 a night; when we stayed here in April 2010, our rate was $22 (this included a discount of 10%). We judge this to be excessive; as handy as the park is, we will look for alternatives before staying again. It is the only caravan park in town, yes, but there are options within the 100 to 200 km range from Norseman, and they now strike us as worthy of serious consideration. Friendly staff. So had to go through Family Parks who got me my discount but when I checked in, they still didn't want to give it to me, but in the end did because of my complaint to Family Park. So beware if booking a site before you arrive, because it is not advertised on their website that they are a FPA member. We arrived in Wyalkatchem early afternoon, the temperature was approx 35 degrees, the sign at the entrance of the caravan park advised that if it was outside of council hours, we should select a site, set up and then go to the roadhouse to make payment. We chose a shady site and rather than set up as we had planned to stayed hooked up, we drove to the road house with caravan in tow. On arrival at the roadhouse the gentleman advised that he was busy, if we wanted a caravan site we would have to wait. He proceeded with his paperwork and during this advised that he had allocated us site 6. We did mention that we would prefer site 2, but he told us that he was not prepared to change which site he had allocated us. On arrival back at the caravan park, we found that we had been given the only site without shade. The en-suite should have been a treat, but we found it was not only showing its age, but was very basic with just concrete on the floor, and not particularly clean. We did use the camp kitchen and found it to be more than adequate. At $23 a night 2A, I struggle to see how it was given ratings of 4 and 4.5 in the past. I battle with 3.

Manager's name is Caretaker. The caravan park was opened in 1985 and is run by the shire/town. There is no on-site management. A sign at the entrance to the park advises people to go the general store (which is close by) and arrange for a site with the people there - or phone ahead. You will be told if there is a site available and issued with a key to the amenities block. Out of hours you can go to the Commercial Hotel (just past the general store) and sort out a key. A caretaker will usually visit the caravan park daily to look after bits and pieces. Only expect the bare basics here - this is not the Taj Mahal by any means. There is one washing machine in the laundry and it is free to use. If you want a cheap place to base yourself from whilst you tour the district, or just to have a rest from the driving, then this is worth considering. It is a step up from a bush site - but with the power, water, shower and laundry all for $12.00 a night. Weekly rate for a powered site is $60.00. An unpowered site is $6.00 per night. There are 12 powered sites with water taps at the power outlet/s. Tent sites are $5.00 per night. Telstra 3G connectivity can be obtained but you may have to wander around until you get a good signal. TV reception is best via satellite dish. Friendly staff, no complaints. Local Information: The town of Yealering is quite small but do look in the general store and have a browse - it is interesting what you can find. The nearby lake is a bit salty but is used for recreational purposes - boating and powercraft / water skiing, plus the odd windsurfer may be seen; and there is a swimming area also. It is only a short stroll from the park. There are some walk trails around also. Late winter and through spring is a good time for a visit as the wild flowers are out. In summer it can get a bit hot but the lake can help cool you off. The local hotel could be worth a visit - we didn't pop in but we were advised that an alright feed could be had at a reasonable price.
Roads: Roads in the district can be narrow and if meeting on-coming traffic then a move to the left in a half on and half off the bitumen situation is required. The verges are generally fairly well maintained and if done with caution and dropping your speed, this poses minimal problems. Summer is usually dry so any off bitumen travel usually incurs a dusty plume to signify where you have been.

Manager's name is Elizabeth & Mick. This is a nice clean, well maintained and well run park. The park is situated amongst flowering gums with plenty of bird life. The site fee of $30 per night, we felt was a bit excessive. The bbq was directly outside the camp kitchen but there was no seating you either ate in your caravan or in the camp kitchen. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, most sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. basic laundry, basic rec room, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open and roomy, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Management were extremely friendly and helpful and it was great to be shown to our site. It was a very nice thought that Elizabeth was at the boom gate as you left the park to hand back your boom gate key deposit which saved having to get out the van.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: York is a quaint heritage town.
Roads: Very bumpy

Manager's name is Elizabeth & Mick. Continues to be a great park, my wife and I love it and the town. Elizabeth & Mick continue to provide a very happy interaction with guests (nothing has changed there), and improve the park, now catering to overflow when the park is full (as it was for us this time - 11 vans in various areas of overflow around the park) Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($30 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Friendly staff, van parking assistance provided by staff. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($28 2A, plus $10 4C per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Good laundry, basic rec room, secure entry. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. No playground. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Quiet and secluded. Toilets were immaculate at all times and smelt very sanitised not bleachy. Handtowel and big bin. Soft toilet paper.
Dislikes: Too far from town and too dark for the me and the kids to go to the loo at night. Our site wasn't too flash but about 20 sites are good ones. We were just leftovers and had no water. Had to walk to get water and didn't have a container for this task. No bench in shower to put your stuff although heaps of hooks. Water pressure not so good.
Parking: Nowhere to park when booking in. Had to move car and van twice in 10 min just to book in.

Likes: Elizabeth & Mick were very friendly and helpful, and ran a tight ship! You could tell that they take pride in their park, with the amenities always clean & well maintained, the tidy grounds, which were raked regularly, and with the bins emptied often. Very family orientated with quiet time from 9pm to 7.30am.
Dislikes: No Playground. Although it was fantastic that the park had a beautiful, clean, well maintained pool, the addition of a children's playground would be brilliant.
Local Information: Lovely town, with some great little cafes for breakfast or lunch, good children's playground & BBQ/picnic area on river in town.
