Balladonia Roadhouse Caravan Park, Balladonia
915 kms east of Perth on the Eyre Highway. The first roadhouse on the Nullarbor heading east. Like all caravan parks across the Nullarbor it is an extension of the roadhouse. Ph: 08 9039 3453. Dogs on leash.
Typical roadhouse caravan park, free form sites, park how you like, gravel surface, uneven ground, limited shade, no water or sullage. Small amenities block, would be severely stretched if more than a dozen vans in park (men's amenities had a single toilet). Bore water, good pressure and hot. Rain water tank at amenities for filling jugs etc but not caravan tanks. Good meals at roadhouse, small interesting museum there. No point dressing this park up – it's perfectly adequate for an overnight stay and that's all anyone is likely to need it for. Price of $22 2A for powered site average. Would stay again.
Date 09/2008. Park Rating 2.5:
Report submitted by Peripatetc Perrys.

Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($19 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, large sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen, kiosk, car wash. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean free gas bbq, in UC congenial area, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. A well maintained park.
Likes: For a roadhouse in the middle of nowhere with limited water, this is ok. Meals are huge, in the dining area or cafe and you can also take-away to the van. Bar was very congenial.
Added Touches: In season a community fire pit and entertainment.
Local Information: The "Skylab" fell near here in 1979, and there is a small museum in the now "dining" area for the road workers.
Roads: Significant road works being undertaken but no hold ups this time.
Date 04/2006. Park Rating 3.5: Suitable for overnighter.

Coolgardie Tourist Park, Coolgardie
Small park on right hand side of Bayley Street (Great Eastern Highway) heading into town from Perth. Ph: 08 9026 6009. Dogs allowed on leash.
Staff friendly. Gravel surface, a few trees, shade minimal. Sites flat, a good size, some drive through. Power and water close. 2 amenities blocks, one closed at the time of our non-peak stay, strong hot water, numbers adequate, clean but a bit run down. Satisfactory laundry and clothesline space. Night lighting good. At $22 (2A, powered) reasonable value as an overnighter. Downside: semi-trailers pull in and leave from the roadside just outside the park at all hours of the night. Very noisy.

Cunderdin Caravan Park, Cunderdin
156 kms east of Perth. Turn at signs on Great Eastern Highway and follow around to park.
I have just spent a few days with my caravan club at the Cunderdin Caravan Park (privately owned). Nice clean park. Good ablutions (albeit only two showers in each male/female ablution blocks), blue metal ground covering in park and sites (beats gravel) so no mud in the wet. Price was $20 a night although this may have been club price, not sure. Very helpful owners, only just taken over and very keen to get more business. A few working locals in park, but kept at one end of park away from tourist sites and well behaved, etc. Also some tourist cabins and some backpacker units, camp kitchen building, TV, fridge, microwave, sinks, lounge etc. Is close to railway line and east/west passenger train and good trains go by from time to time. Park is on Perth scheme water (Perth/Kalgoorlie pipeline), lots of powered sites, a couple of streets off main road and walk path from park to shops (IGA supermarket and other shops etc). Local attractions are the Ettamogah Pub (modern theme interior/exterior, good meals etc) and fantastic museum nearby with some really good exhibits including earthquake house and history on pipeline among many other things, tractors, old school and railway carriage, etc, well worth the visit. I would stay there again for one or two days if passing through.

Report submitted by Vicar.

Very clean park very friendly managers, easy walk to Ettamagoo pub with very good meals. We got an upgrade to ensuite but got back late from meal and water was cold, still cold in the morning when we pulled out at 6 am. We think the manager forgot to turn on hot water service. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Price was lower than expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. Adequate number of tourist sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Suitable for overnighter, well maintained park.

Eucla Caravan Park, Eucla
726 kms east of Norseman. Part of roadhouse/motel complex at top of Eucla Pass (on Eyre Highway). Ph: 08 9039 3468. Dogs on leash.
All dirt park, no concrete slabs. Very dusty place. No water available except at the water tank. Showers cost an extra $1. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade. Clean pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: There is no markings to show where to park. No sites allocated. Just find a power box and park somewhere near it. We found it difficult to decide exactly where we should stop.
Parking: Book and pay at the service station before going to the caravan park.

Parking: Plenty.
Added Touches: Open fires were lit, good to gather around for a yarn with fellow travellers. Can walk freely around station outbuildings (old shearing shed). The shearers quarters have been converted to units.

All gravel park, washing facilities good but expensive at $5 per wash. Parking sites roomy, no sullage, buckets only. Shower facilities clean. Showers $00 for 5 minutes. Brilliant camp kitchen and bbq area. Fire lit by manager every night is a draw card for everyone. Walks for people who are interested. Good for a veg for 2/3 nights. $25 per night could be considered dear but we thoroughly enjoyed it. The owner and wife were very friendly. We enjoyed the communal campfires at night. Would go again.

Report submitted by JK&L - The Big Trip.

A great stop if you like the bush and want to see Wave Rock. The pool was a fantastic addition, as it does get very hot in Hyden during the summer. Only 200m or so walk from Wave Rock. There are trees throughout the park but unfortunately there are only certain times of the day each site is in the shade and we found with ours over our 2 day stay pretty much all day we were in the sun. It wasn't busy during our stay so it was a "choose your own site" basis. All sites are dirt sites. Water quality was a bit suspect so have your own drinking water. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($37 2A 2C per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), kiosk, disabled facilities. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: The pool, bush setting, friendly atmosphere setting at the BBQ area, Dogs allowed on leash
Dislikes: Even though there are trees you are still in the sun most of the day (especially the hottest parts of the day)
Local Information: Wave Rock, Hippos Yawn, Wildflowers (at the right time of year) Wave Rock Motel have a bistro and restaurant
Roads: All good sealed roads.

Boulder Accommodation Village, Kalgoorlie
Don't confuse with Kalgoorlie Accommodation Village. On way into town just as you get off the roundabout. Ph: 08 9093 1266. All pets allowed.
Average management. Poor value for money. Average amenities. Poor sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, hard to negotiate in to/out of site. Laundry, security entry to park. Park atmosphere was okay, quiet, too many permanents for this park. Dogs allowed on leash. Clean gas bbq (free). Good clean pool, area is shaded, kid-safe pool area, seating around the pool was provided. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: It had a site available when we needed one - that is all we liked
Dislikes: Trainee managers were not very friendly. They allowed barking dogs to continue to bark even after complaints made (we had 2 dogs and even we were sick of other people's dogs barking). Amenities were not cleaned daily. Amenities were small and cramped. There were only about 8 tourist sites and also an area for about 3 camp trailers. When we arrived we booked in for 2 nights and then found work so decided to extend our stay. Even though they had a stay 7 nights pay for 6 apparently we were not eligible because we had already stayed for 2 nights prior!?
Parking: Off street parking space while waiting to book.
Added Touches: Tourist info.
Local Information: Kalgoorlie is a great town to stop and explore or to use as a base to see the Goldfields. We stopped for 2 days and have been here for 14 weeks so far! Have a beer and a meal at Paddy's Ale House and definitely take a Super Pit tour.
Roads: Roads in WA are pretty bad.

Resort single cabin. Misleading photos (which are still there 7mths later) show a full sized fridge with separate freezer and a full sized oven - and it is because of these features we booked the cabin in the first place. All these cabins have is a bar fridge, microwave and hotplates. When we pointed this out to reception they questioned our claims but appeared apologetic after we showed them the web photos but said the park was full and there was nowhere else to move us to - no discount was offered. The manager was going to be advised and the photos corrected - this has still not been done seven (7) months later (May 09). Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($126 2A 1C per night, cabin, peak season). Cabin was clean, condition is very good, mostly level sites, good night lighting, very few sites are shaded. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, secure entry. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Misleading photos of cabins.
Local Information: Boulder Markets, Goatcher Curtain, Hammond Park (great wildlife), Paddy Hannans Tree, Mt Charlotte & Super Pit Lookouts, Questa Casa brothel tour (Hay St), Racing Club and WA Museum. Well signposted whether coming in from Kambalda or Coolgardie. A very large park with a variety of accommodation from tents through powered sites to ensuites (2), cabins etc. Reception polite, given local information but no offer to show to site. Tourist sites level and quite large, some drive-through, most of them away from permanent sites at back of park, moderate shade. Most access roads wide. Most sites appeared to have annexe pads, were level, good water pressure, sullage points. Reasonable lighting at night. Two amenities blocks, appeared adequate although could be stretched if park full. Clean and well maintained, good hot water pressure, showers had curtains, mop provided. Hand basins and soap and drying facilities. Laundry in both amenity blocks. Other facilities included well maintained pool, children's playground, wireless Internet ($5 for 30 minutes, $15 for 24 hours), camp kitchen, free BBQ area well away from most sites, boom gate security, toilet dump points in both laundries. Near airport but no noise problem. Twenty minutes walk to Boulder shops, 5 minute drive to IGA supermarket, 10 minute drive to central Kalgoorlie. Prospector Holiday Park, Kalgoorlie
Corner Great Eastern Highway & Ochiltree Street. Ph: 08 9021 2524. Pets at manager's discretion.
This park is now under the Acclaim banner. Park quality has really deteriorated in the last 12 months, with little or no maintenance being performed. Huge cracks in the amenities blocks walls, lighting over doors to see key pad in order to gain entrance to ladies block is constantly not working. Door handle was reported broken on the ladies amenities block door (could not get out once you were inside unless someone opened the door from outside! This had not been fixed 3 days later.) Lights continually not working in both male and female blocks. Showers in a dirty state. Paint peeling from ceilings in amenities block, and windows very dirty and dusty. Mould and cracked and broken tiles everywhere. Taps in showers and the toilet cisterns continually running with worn out tap washers. Hot water runs out if too many people use the showers at once, i.e. more than 4 at a time! Rubbish not collected from wheelie bins outside vans until really full and overflowing, i.e. not daily. Strong sewerage smell in the park due to blocked drains is constant. Large dead trees overhanging vans need lopping urgently as there are strong winds in this area. Repeated requests from long term residents has been ignored or promises made and never followed up. In short, this park is in dire need of a complete overhaul and a blatant rip off at $26.00 per night for a powered site. There is a dump point. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean free gas bbq in congenial bbq area atmosphere. Good playground in average condition. Dirty pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days.

Tressie's Museum and Caravan Park, Karlgarin
On Brookton Highway, 17km west of Hyden. Ph: 08 9889 5043. Dogs on leash.
Note: The road shown on most maps between Hyden & Norseman as a track / unsealed is in fact 300ks of unsealed road, generally gravel, but in quite good condition, took a 21ft conventional caravan over no problems at all and saves having to go via Kalgoorlie or Esperance to Norseman. Check locally though on the road condition first as the councils/shires do close the road if wet to prevent excessive damage, and you do not want to travel it after heavy rain anyway.
Manager's name is Laurel & Merve Trestrail A new park (2-3yrs?), everything still as new, meticulously maintained. Very friendly owners. Park set up on a section of the farming property to give Merve & Laurel 'something to do' while the boys took over the farm. The museum part is Merve's lifetime collection, will conduct a tour for a gold coin donation. I personally dislike museums generally but it was interesting even for me. Didn't personally use, but the facilities in the camp kitchen are just unreal in standard and equipment. 4 TV channels rebroadcast over the park. BBQ's free and spotless. Fireplaces provided, move your own mobile fireplace where you like with sack truck provided, free firewood provided. Nothing is too much trouble for the owners. A perfect place if visiting wave rock and area, far better than in Hayden itself. Intended staying 2 nights, stayed 4. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, late checkout allowed (past noon), good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, dump point, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Dislikes: One downside is little shade as the trees are still small, no pool otherwise the rating would have been 5, and the playground is very minor as it was still being developed.
Parking: Plenty of room, all sites are drive through, individually controlled site lighting so no problems with bright lights in bedroom windows.
Added Touches: Fires allowed and wood provided.
Local Information: Can walk over to local club for meals etc. visit wave rock, hippo rock, various local sights.
Roads: Good sealed roads everywhere locally.

Madura Caravan Facility, Madura
1255 kms east of Perth, 529 kms east of Norseman, on the Eyre Highway, between Cocklebiddy and Eucla. Ph: 08 9039 3464.
Situated just off the highway at the foot of the pass. Looks more like a wayside bush stop excepting it has power points. Ground is uneven and there are no designated sites. At $25 per night (2A) it is overpriced. There are a couple of rusty wood-fired BBQs and a swimming pool that, during our stay, was full of dirty water and closed. The ladies and disabled amenities are in a fairly new 'relocatable' and, I'm told, everything is of a very acceptable standard. The men's, which I used, had no urinal, only one working toilet cubicle two showers and thousands of moths. The shower was excellent with the flow hot and strong. It was only five minutes before leaving the next morning that I discovered I had used the former ladies (now a men's) and there was another men's amenities hidden around the back, with a urinal, two toilets cubicles and two more showers! Reception staff were very friendly. Meals, drinks and internet access were available in the motel attached. No mobile phone reception. A useful stop-over on the Nullarbor.

Advertised desalinated water, pool & internet cafe. On the road across the nullabor these were very appealing. Pool was closed, no desalinated water - in fact had to get drinking water from toilet hand basin in a jug - staff told us there were big signs across the nullabor telling everyone to bring their own water! No internet facilities. Very poor management.

Typical roadhouse caravan park, no frills, uneven gravel freeform sites, park how you like. Limited shade, no water or sullage. Amenities old and a little tired but clean, appear adequate for numbers, water is desalinated and quite soft, good pressure, hot. Food and bar at hotel, also pool. Park quite adequate for overnight stay; no reason to stay longer. Price $25 2A for powered sites overpriced for what park provides.

Can't miss it. Remember this is the Nullarbor so it's not the Ritz. The caravan park is pretty basic. Park anywhere near a power pole. Management and staff were very friendly and helpful. Facilities were clean and neat and good eatery facilities are available. I couldn't believe it but there was a pool! Clean with shade and seating provided. A small playground in reasonable condition meant a pretty good good standard for where it is. It was fairly pricey at $60 for 3 adults and 6 children, but hey, it's the Nullarbor. Petrol was expensive but not as expensive as some. There were wood BBQs available as well as a laundry, rec room and hotel in the complex.

This caravan park was formerly known as Broadgrounds Caravan Park and did have a bit of a bad reputation. The new owners who also own Toodyay Caravan Park have done so much to tidy this park and it has paid off. Manager's name is Beth. It is a lovely bush setting nestled in the Toodyay hills and Beth the manageress is just gorgeous. She goes out of her way to see that you are happy and comfortable. When we stayed there were only 3 other vans so we had pick of the sites and chose to stay on the "bush side" which is like being in the bush. Had it not been for our neighbours we would have swore being out in the middle of no where - it was lovely. The other side of the park has some onsite vans, chalets, cabins and very few permanents and some powered sites with concrete pad. The side we chose was "bush side" and was typical bush, powered, dirt sites, The lighting was poor but this was no problem as it added to Bush atmosphere. BBQs are scattered throughout the park, free gas and wood which were all clean, plenty of bins that were free of litter. We were able to light one of the wooden ones at night and use as an open fire, it was lovely. Plenty of wood available. Plenty of seating in the form of bench and tables. There is also a pen with Emus and Kangaroos and plenty of birdlife and Geese walking around. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Lake Yealering Caravan Park, Yealering
On the southern side of town between the lake and the Corrigin-Narrogin Road; adjacent to the sports oval. Ph: 08 9888 7013. Dogs on leash.
Manager's name is Caretaker. The caravan park was opened in 1985 and is run by the shire/town. There is no on-site management. A sign at the entrance to the park advises people to go the general store (which is close by) and arrange for a site with the people there - or phone ahead. You will be told if there is a site available and issued with a key to the ablutions block. Out of hours you can go to the Commercial Hotel (just past the general store) and sort out a key. A caretaker will usually visit the caravan park daily to look after bits and pieces. Only expect the bare basics here - this is not the Taj Mahal by any means. There is one washing machine in the laundry and it is free to use. If you want a cheap place to base yourself from whilst you tour the district, or just to have a rest from the driving, then this is worth considering. It is a step up from a bush site - but with the power, water, shower and laundry all for $12.00 a night. Weekly rate for a powered site is $60.00. An unpowered site is $6.00 per night. There are 12 powered sites with water taps at the power outlet/s. Tent sites are $5.00 per night. Telstra 3G connectivity can be obtained but you may have to wander around until you get a good signal. TV reception is best via satellite dish. Friendly staff, no complaints. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($12 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Quiet, open and roomy, not enough shade. Clean UC gas bbq (free). No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Very inexpensive
Local Information: The town of Yealering is quite small but do look in the general store and have a browse - it is interesting what you can find. The nearby lake is a bit salty but is used for recreational purposes - boating and powercraft / water skiing, plus the odd windsurfer may be seen; and there is a swimming area also. It is only a short stroll from the park. There are some walk trails around also. Late winter and through spring is a good time for a visit as the wild flowers are out. In summer it can get a bit hot but the lake can help cool you off. The local hotel could be worth a visit - we didn't pop in but we were advised that an alright feed could be had at a reasonable price.
Roads: Roads in the district can be narrow and if meeting on-coming traffic then a move to the left in a half on and half off the bitumen situation is required. The verges are generally fairly well maintained and if done with caution and dropping your speed, this poses minimal problems. Summer is usually dry so any off bitumen travel usually incurs a dusty plume to signify where you have been.

Likes: Elizabeth & Mick were very friendly and helpful, and ran a tight ship! You could tell that they take pride in their park, with the ablutions always clean & well maintained, the tidy grounds, which were raked regularly, and with the bins emptied often. Very family orientated with quiet time from 9pm to 7.30am.
Dislikes: No Playground. Although it was fantastic that the park had a beautiful, clean, well maintained pool, the addition of a children's playground would be brilliant.
Local Information: Lovely town, with some great little cafes for breakfast or lunch, good children's playground & BBQ/picnic area on river in town.
