Carnarvon Information
Carnarvon is 980 kms N of Perth, 5 hours N of Geraldton, 4 hours N of Kalbarri, 3 hours N of Shark Bay and Monkey Mia and 2 hours S of Coral Bay, 4 hours S of Exmouth.
Good shopping centre in Carnarvon. The Gascoyne river which is mostly dry is very impressive. Interesting tours around the local banana plantations.
Excellent fishing on One Mile jetty for mulloway, shark, yellowfin, bream. Whiting near channel markers at Pelican Point. Very good sized tailor on beaches late afternoon until dark between Norwest Fisheries and Pelican Point. Bumbak plantation do a good informative tour. Lighthouse keeper's cottage and museum at the One Mile jetty well worth a look. Fresh local prawns at Norwest Fisheries in season (good prices).
This lovely town has lots to offer, well worth spending time here. The jetty and museum area is a must see, and a drive N to the Quobba blowholes etc is a wonderful day out. The Sandhurst Tavern, though it looks very ordinary from the outside, has a great steak meal deal for $10.
The town is famous for its fruit and vegetables which are cheap and plentiful especially at the market on Saturday mornings.
Ride the "Coffee Pot" train at One Mile jetty. See the old OTC dish on the hill and from the park. Lunch at Carnarvon Hotel & Waters Edge Restaurant, good views over the Fascine, great sunsets. Good food at Harbourside cafe and Hacienda Crab near the water.
Blowholes, HMAS Sydney Memorial Cairn, lovely fresh fruit and vegetables direct from the farms are excellent value for money, and town tour bus.

We copped it pretty hard in the Gascoyne Floods but would like everyone to know we are up and trading - so please come and visit us. Matthew and I purchased the park in 2007. We were from a nearby sheep station for 15 years prior to that. We have 3 school-aged children and love the tourism/caravan park industry.

Very friendly and helpful people also quick to respond to complaints however the amenities of the camp do not rate the price they charge, the showers in the old section where we stayed have not changed as far as I can remember since 1984 anyhow the old sites and showers etc. do not warrant the price especially compared to the park some friends were staying at for $25 PN against our $39.

Manager's name is Les and Peta. When you're heading to Carnarvon there is only one place to stay, we had the best time and they even escorted us to our site and helped Joe to back on. There was a pleasant welcome in reception and they offered us a 4 night stay for the price of 3, $96 which worked out to $24 per night, and we all know how much we like a bargain. They have a 4 rink bowling green up on the hill and a shed which happy hour seems to occur most evenings, you can sit up near the bowling green and look over the plantations and the park and watch the bowlers or join in. Very friendly atmosphere and clean amenities, large roomy sites and helpful staff, so why stay any place else. You can't wash your car but there is a car wash in town. Pets are allowed but you must clean up after them and keep them on the leash. We loved the signage around the park - someone there has a great sense of humour. Very friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Robinson street. 5klms east of PO. From the S turn left off the Northwest Hwy into Robinson Street and head toward Carnarvon town about 5km on right. Ph: 08 9941 8101. Pets at manager's discretion. Separate site area for people with dog.

There doesn't appear to be much done around the park. I know they were flooded and have recently had rain but I would have expected to see the muddy boggy sites closed off until they dried or the holes filled in, but not so here. One caravan was illegally parked with his A frame facing the back of his site, presumably to allow him and his friends next door to have their doors facing each other. Hope there's not a fire while he's there. No way he could have towed out unless the van behind him moved. The showers were an experience with cracked tiles and taps that didn't move so unable to turn them on. Staff very friendly and site fees not as dear as other parks in town but reckon it's sometimes better to pay more. We stayed 2 nights only, had intended to stay longer but not under those conditions. There are people, mostly pensioners, who stay for lengthy periods in this park and at the time of our visit it was busy. Maybe we expect better and are prepared to pay. We left it late to book and as we have a dog we had little choice of where we could stay. Next time I'll book well in advance elsewhere I think. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($150 2A per week, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, no rec room, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Dismal bbq area atmosphere. No playground. Suitable for few days.
Likes: it's close to the plantations for fresh vegies. There's a supermarket within walking distance.
Dislikes: the amenity blocks, the muddy sites, lack of lighting at night especially with the ruts and holes left after the rain.
Parking: plenty of room to park while going into the office
Local Information: the availability of fresh fruit and veg. Plenty of places to eat and drink. lovely beaches.
Roads: bitumen and wide enough for trucks to pass it's a good road into and around Carnarvon

This park is the closest caravan park to town, but it's still a quiet park with friendly staff, very helpful with local information. All amenities do appear to be down one end of the park, but that didn't bother us because we were there 'off peak'. They are also in old condition, in need of an upgrade but still clean with okay water pressure. Kids also had a great time in the pool. We were camped at a nice grassy site. Good camp kitchen (no oven) with a communal feel. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($42 2A 2C per night, powered, off-peak season). Kids 5 & under free. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Good playground in average condition. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Park information included a 3 day guide on what to do in the area, very handy.
Dislikes: Old amenities, need to be updated
Local Information: If you go to Rocky Pool just before you reach the river there is a track off to the right. Take the second left track and there was a beautiful sand bar that was very safe for the kids to play on - hope it's still there.

Reasonable park with multiple facilities blocks, although they all seemed to be clustered at one end of the park. Ph: 08 9941 8150 or 1800 555 585. Top Tourist member. Pets allowed, at manager's discretion, on leash at all times, bond applies, pets not allowed in peak times.

Pets are permitted from September to June for site and accommodation bookings. They not permitted inside accommodation or other communal areas (such as amenities blocks, swimming pool and camp kitchen). For accommodation bookings, pets must remain outside on the verandah.

We stayed a fortnight at Wintersun and, other than there was no shade where we were located, had a great stay. It was packed to the rafters most days. Thursday night is sausage sizzle night and 179 attended - it was a hoot. Entertainment was provided by a singer. There were other activities on different days. There is a loud speaker system that alerts you to problems or things going on in the park. Great idea. I would recommend this park to anyone.

Cliff Head North Camp Area, Cliff Head North
Cliff Head North is located 30 kms S of Dongara. Off Indian Ocean Drive, signposted.

We loved this free camp. Drop toilets and rubbish collection. If driving towards Perth from Dennison take the next turn on the right after the signposted Cliff Head North turnoff, turn left at the bottom, this takes you to a large camp area. Very quiet and friendly atmosphere. Best free camp we have been in, would highly recommend it. We are 12m bus towing a car trailer and we had no problems getting in or out.

This freebie is in a lovely spot right on the ocean. If travelling from the north the road in is well marked and we turned in at the signed entrance although there seems to be another couple of little lanes either side of this. The toilets are on the left as you enter and both were in need of a good clean in fact the ladies was full. No water available. When you get to the ocean if you take the lane on the left just in front of the loos and follow it along parallel to the beach there are lots of camping areas along the way, shaded & sunny. About 1k along the lane is another road coming in from the highway with some fishing shacks and a huge camping area in the shelter of a high cliff where quite a few caravans were parked during our stay. As this camp is subject to wind; this may be the best place to take shelter.

Located in Austin Street, the main street in the town. Northern end of town on highway. Ph: 08 9963 1107. Dogs on leash.

Over $850,000 has been spent by the Shire in renovating and extending this park and it has been transformed into something special for a small outback town. There are now 54 bays, superb amenity facilities, camp kitchen, TV room, laundry and dump point. The rate for pensioners is $77 per week - possibly too cheap, because the place was practically full every night we were there. Best to book ahead if you are going that way. There is a good Community Resource Centre in town where you can access the Internet.

Manager's name is Ron and Sherri Christie - Shire of Cue. We arrived at this site to find that it was the caretakers day off and they were out gold prospecting. A note on the office door gave instructions on how to find a site and they would catch us later for the fees. The sign on the door said $11.00 per night for unpowered site but we thought we read it wrong. No it was $11.00. It was blowing a gale when we set up our camper and we took a walk around the historic old gold prospecting town. Amenity facilities were clean and adequate and a large extension to the park grounds is being worked on but we observed that there was plenty of room. There is no camp kitchen and being close to highway, road train traffic was constant. Would love to go back and spend longer there. Caretakers did return and we did catch up with them. Very friendly staff. Very good value for money ($11 2A per night, unpowered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Basic laundry, no camp kitchen, not enough shade. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Setting and cost.
Dislikes: Very exposed in inclement weather. Only a small camping area unless you want to be closer to road and the traffic noise.
Local Information: Great gold fossicking area and old buildings in town have a lot of information on their shop fronts about their history. Shire offices are also a wealth of knowledge. These are open from 9-4pm Monday to Friday.
Roads: Check with the local police and also park caretakers before travelling into some of the fossicking areas for road conditions.

Shire council owned medium sized park. Large, gravel sites. Choose your own. Very little grass in the park and only a few trees. No permanents and small number of cabins and on-site vans. Onsite manager was very friendly. Two menity blocks - 1 brand new. Both in good condition but the older block needs shower curtains as the shower heads face into the dry change area and flood the floor. Soap and paper towels provided. 2 small laundries. No playground or pool. Book swap. Pets allowed. Easy walk into town. My one negative comment would be that the amenity blocks weren't cleaned in the 2 days we were there. Whilst most sites are easy to reverse into you need to tell them the size of your rig as they vary greatly. Some sites are in haphazard places, just squeezed into spare spots around the park. A new area is being completed at the rear of the park and is completely level but close to the Monkey Mia road so you will get some traffic noise. At the moment if you have a large van, bus or 5th wheeler then I suggest you pre-book as the larger sites are limited. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. What a great place to stay. Very different with all the levels, right on the beach and there is a dog exercise area just in front of the park. The amenities are new and spacious. Has soap (great) no paper towels but that can be a good thing as the school holidays are on and the kids just waste the paper plus making a mess. The park is easy walking distance to the little town. Many southern tourists/fishermen come up for the winter each year and go as the school holidays start. There are so many fishermen here it's got me thinking I should learn to fish, or I can just buy from the fish factory here. Squid is caught off the jetty at night. The downside is we went for a Seafood Chowder at the little Old Pearler Restaurant and extremely disappointed with a small bowl for $18 a slice of bread (not crusty). The restaurant is very quaint built of little shells from the area. That is a 'must see'. Really loved this park especially if you have a dog and like to take them for a morning walk as apart from the sand there is a lovely path to the town.

Likes: We were lucky enough to get a concrete annex slab so enjoyed that and also the fact that most sites were separated from their neighbour by she-oaks
Local Information: Denham is a really pretty little place with a lovely park running right along the esplanade. Only 2 supermarkets - the IGA express at the service station on the beach roundabout looks the biggest.

The entire park is on shell grit, and no slabs that I could see. Have a large drill handy or borrow the one from the office to get the pegs in. Amenities we had were newer than the rest and were shower rooms, did not see what the others were like, should be clean as ours were. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Considering this area being such a tourist destination not one caravan park in town has a playground, but I did find this one which has a pool, but that's all it has going for it. The toilet block is old, very run down and looks dirty from water marks. For the price we are paying per night we expected better. I understand grass can be limited in this area but that's no excuse for basic facilities needing some attention. They also state they have a camp kitchen, please don't be fooled. The microwave is in the laundry, the wash up sink is under a veranda and the extremely dirty BBQ's (and a gas stove top) are with some tables in another area. No toaster or kettle in sight. And if you're thinking of cooking up a BBQ on the ones near the pool, they are just as dirty and in need of a little TLC. Saying all this it is a quiet park, fully fenced with a great (clean) pool. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($45 2A C3). This price is with a discount on the kids (apparently) but not sure how much the kids should have been. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to all sites, were dirty, condition is poor, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade. Dirty gas bbq, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Pool. Pegs actually went in ground (some places have really hard ground). Sandy surface not so bad in park
Dislikes: Toilets/showers, lack of bins, no 'real' camp kitchen
Local Information: Monkey Mia is a 30 minute drive, best time to arrive is about 7:45am. Family pass $16 (2A 2C - kids under 6 free). This was much better than the Dolphin Discovery Center in Bunbury.

Nice caravan park close to the water and nice twin town of Dongara/Denison. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($47 2A 2C per night, powered, shoulder season). because of Bad value for money as they charged for both of our 2 young children and would not provide a weekly rate as it was school holidays. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, annexe slabs to most sites, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, basic camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, wireless internet is available. Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for families, well maintained park
Likes: They had a free Sunday pancake breakfast and numerous playgrounds were close by along the foreshore, one right next to the CP. Sandy beaches near the CP had been recently devastated but were still ok to use, perhaps not as good as they used to be. Also close to easy access fishing spots.
Dislikes: A very noisy inconsiderate neighbour who played music and was speaking very loud was dealt with when we complained. He probably could have been dealt with the first night he did it if someone had been doing a nightly rounds.
Parking: Only on parking bay when booking in. Staff seem to take up parking spaces on the street that would be the other logical place to pull up.

This is a another really lovely caravan park with welcoming assistant managers. It is a council park but the people leasing it are doing wonderful things with it including large concrete sites and plantings in between so will be lovely and private when finished. The best bbq area I have seen; in fact would love to have taken it home. Pity the beach is full of seaweed. Went into Dongara to buy fish and chips $15 per piece and then on top of that there was a $1 surcharge for using credit card. Out on the highway (south) at the Caltex Roadhouse they have the best pies and a great variety. I had the pepper steak pie $5.90 and well worth it.

There is a commendable amount of new development in this park. Most suitable for bigger vans, campers and motorhomes. The new sites have wide concrete pads that are big enough for a 9m+ 5th wheeler. New facilities and new camping areas that are not easily seen if you just look from the entry at the roadside. Friendly staff, quiet and good value compared with most WA parks. Recommended.

Medium sized park situated at South Beach in Port Denison. $38.00 per night (school holidays), but we paid $34.20 with Top Tourist discount. Nicely maintained park. Managers on holiday during our visit but relief managers were very friendly and helpful. There is a new tourist section with large, double concrete slabs and more grass sites are being laid on an upper level. The amenity block has been extended and the facilities are excellent. Soap and hand dryer provided. Even though it was school holidays the older section was closed and looked in need of refurbishment. The Bali style BBQ area was very nice and the BBQ's were free. Manager's name is Ron and Sue. This would have to be one of the best parks that we have stayed at this year. Unfortunately, the park is in two sections at present - the new refurbished section (which we stayed in) is fantastic, huge concrete slabs that take the van, car, annex and still have some left over, good space between sites and manicured lawns and gardens around area. Large clean BBQ (free) area under cover. New, exceptionally clean amenities with ample hot water, soap dispensers and hand driers. Reception staff could not have been more helpful. We were asked if we had a dog, so perhaps dogs are relegated to another part of the park I would have given it a 5, but I am leaving somewhere to go. The older section of the park is under some old cypress trees, have small slabs and are a bit dirty. This section only rates a 3, but they are currently being replaced. Wireless internet available, phone (Telstra 3G) good. Good TV signal. Good for a day or a long beachside stay. $27.00 for Top Tourist members, $30.00 for non-members - great value for money.

Likes: Amenity blocks central to park. There are about 6 different areas on different levels throughout the park so even though it was full (Easter) you didn't feel like there were lots of people on top of you. Shaded sites have little or no grass. Grassed sites have little or no shade. Owners have redeveloped some areas recently and are awaiting trees to grow. Trees in shaded areas drop sap etc all over car and van. Owners advised that these type of trees will eventually be replaced, but they need to do it in stages.
Added Touches: Fish cleaning table, path to South Beach, close to boat ramp at Port Dennison.
Local Information: Can drive car/4WD onto South Beach nearby. Shops/bakery walking distance. Playgrounds nearby.

Let me say up front, I did not stay at this park, and the evaluation is from a cursory visit. It appears to be a completely refurbished park, with all sites being ensuite. At $40.00 per night, it is perhaps a tad expensive, but the facilities and location appear to be top notch. Sites are large and separated from each other quite well. All are tourist sites. Recommend all grey nomad vanners visit this park. The owner, Alan Tinkler's 4.30pm wild flower walk is worth the price of the stay. The park is well laid out, well cared for and the owners passion is a welcome change from other off-handed park owners. The only negative is that the water pressure is low, but given that they are dependent on rainfall even that can be forgiven, however $2 PN for electricity is a bargain. Worthy place to stay, best in wild flower season.

We enjoyed the quiet relaxed atmosphere of this park. Though the pool is uncovered it was the first park pool that didn't feel like it had ice cubes in it. Manager was friendly and welcoming. You can wash your car and van once a week provided it is done on the grass. Great camp kitchen. Make sure you visit the HMAS Sydney memorial in both the day and night to give you a different perspective.

This park is in the middle of nowhere, but is nice and clean and for the cost of $28.00 was good value. The sites are cramped and very hard to manoeuvre into. Large vans would have major trouble. All sites have shademesh pads and most have some shade. Park managers were OK, but not over helpful. They explained the park layout, but not much else. Amenities were clean, although the shower cubicles are very small with almost no dry area. Soap provided. The pool is clean, but has no shade. Pets are welcome (it appears to be a 'dog park'). BBQ is clean and free, laundry is basic. For the price it is OK, but definitely 'no frills'.
Likes: Price.
Dislikes: Cramped sites and no manoeuvring room.

Overall an acceptable park but in desperate need of a major update. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Likes: Good level and easy to negotiate sites available with full concrete pads. Handed a sheet with good local information when checking in.
Dislikes: The park is looking tired and has many permanents. It needs a large update however the facilities are well maintained but old. The internal roads are potholed and water pools on the gravel areas after rain. Reasonably close to the town and very close to the port.
Parking: On the left just after entering the park.
Local Information: If you are interested in weather then the Met weather monitoring station near the airport offer a free tour every day subject to staff availability. Check at the visitor centre but really interesting and they explain the weather really well

This is our second visit to the park and it is a pleasure to say it is much improved. Obviously a lot of time and money have been invested at the results speak for themselves. Well kept gardens, lovely pool area and well maintained grounds. The managers are really helpful and helped us with local attractions and things to do. We stayed in the new caravanning area with good sized slabs and lots of shade. Highly recommended.

Note this park is now Top Tourist, not BIG4. We stayed in an ensuite site. Reasonable ensuite with shelf space for unpacking onto and separate shower cubicle. Good towel rail. Poor ventilation and hopeless exhaust fan. On our first day we reported the toilet leaked, when we left a week later they had made no attempt to look at it. Conversations around the barbecue indicate the same lackadaisical attitude to maintenance in amenities block. We were in a nice grassed section with annex slabs, other areas were gravel. Lots of permanents and many of the tourist sites were taken with semi-permanents in Geraldton for the wheat season. Dusty roads combined with the interminable Geraldton wind meant everything was always dusty. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($220 2A per week, ensuite). Mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, kiosk, dump point, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Clean UC electric bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Next to train line and main road into port, so fairly noisy at times.
Added Touches: Large jumping pillow for kids.

Drummond Cove Holiday Park, Geraldton

Situated on the North-West Coastal Hwy, about 15 min drive N of Geraldton. A few kms past the 440 Roadhouse. Ph: 08 9938 2524 or 1800 992 524. Dogs on leash.

This park is 10k N of Geraldton and is an easy drive into the CBD. Sites are very big and would allow for car to be left hooked onto van. Plenty of room for van, awning out and car. The sites are uneven and dirt. Plenty of shade, amenities are close to most sites and are very clean. They advertise that it is a tranquil park - not so, it is almost on top of the highway and the noise is continuous. Very difficult to access the beach. Geraldton has a very moving memorial to the HMAS Sydney that overlooks the city. The Museum has interesting displays on the finding of the Sydney and also displays about the numerous Dutch ships that became wrecked off the coast of WA in the 1600's and 1700's. When we were there they had a stunning photographic display of Australian wildlife. Geraldton is a very quiet place on a Sunday, not too much is open.

The staff were so unfriendly. No help provided or assistance onto site, told it is in this row, look at the numbers, sites are big easy to get into, so you don't need help. I arrived on dusk due to my caravan having things done to it, had no idea where the amenities were or the BBQ, had to find things in the dark. I wouldn't stay here again, due to the unfriendliness and unhelpfulness upon check in. When I booked they were a Top Tourist park, but not anymore. No drive thru sites and the ones you are supposedly allowed to remain hooked up, I could just fit in, and my van is about 16 feet. Any questions asked, were answered but it is like she didn't want to, slightly friendlier in the morning but not much. Very unfriendly staff. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites. Good laundry, open & roomy park. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Not much, sites weren't too bad that is about it
Dislikes: It wasn't within walking distance from the water, unfriendly welcome, no help provided, no drive thru sites, hard to fit into the site and remain hitched up.
Parking: Plenty of space available
Local Information: A bit to see in Geraldton, which is what I went for

We stayed in this park during December 2005 & January 2006 and it was just lovely. Unfortunately the park has deteriorated somewhat. There are quite a number of permanents, one of which on site 22 behind where we stayed for 3 weeks has a Corella in a cage which squawks and squawks nearly all day, commencing at 5.45am. After a number of complaints to the managers of the park the bird eventually was covered up each night and supposed to be uncovered not before 7am. This does not always happen. This same permanent has a barking dog, all day Sunday, the day before doing this report, he was operating a grinder all day, hammering etc. We have never stayed in such a noisy park before. After speaking to a few other holiday makers in the park they also have complained about the activities of this particular permanent and his noisy bird and his noisy activities. We definitely will not return to this park. The shop used to have hamburgers etc but these new managers do not have any takeaway food now. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints Good value for money ($150.00 2A per week, powered, shoulder season). Fairly big sites, mostly coarse clean sand, levelled. Plenty of shade. Some sites are raised by 30-40cm and pushing a low lying caravan up the slightly steep verge can become interesting (needed three attempts with a 30-year old Viscount). Nice shaded gazebo-like area with two gas BBQ's (bring $1 coins) and plenty of seating/tables. Camp kitchen ok for cleaning the dishes, not so well equipped for cooking. Two large fridges in camper kitchen to store your food (at your own risk). Good for families with kids, very safe. Pool (standard 9m) and smallish tennis courts (x2, hard surface). Two play areas for kids, plus a small cricket pitching area. Stayed for 6 nights. Amenities very good and clean. Substantial amount of permanents. Good shop, good snacks, steak-burgers etc until 6.45pm. Also offer menu of the day, changing daily (simple tucker but good). Short walk through the dunes to river, nice spot. Very friendly owners. Shop with pretty good selection of basic food and day-to-day items. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($28 2A C1 per night powered, peak period). Heading west from highway just before Hamelin Pool turnoff, turn right, it is well signposted. Or turn off onto the Hamelin Pool Road and about 1km down turn right, also signposted. This is a working sheep station. Unpowered sites only. Ph: 08 9948 5145. No pets allowed.

Two entrances - the one off the highway to Denham is the longer dirt one (only a few k's though). You can also enter via the bitumen road to the Hamelin Pool Stromatolites about 2ks before there; if taking this entrance it will be on your right - it is a dirt road of about 1k and in better condition than the main road in. A really great park where the owners have gone out of their way to set it up in an excellent way. The huge rec 'house' with a big camp kitchen is fabulous and it has a huge dining room as well as the big outdoor covered BBQ area. The new amenities/laundry block is spotless and very well planned. Crushed shell paths to amenities etc kept things cleaner and concrete paths between there and the rec house. Great sunsets. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($20 2A, unpowered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, no sites are shaded, drive-through sites. Good rec room, good camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: The friendliness of the place, I took a previous reports suggestion of cooking in the camp kitchen so I could enjoy 'happy hour' and cook at the same time and we even ate in their dining room.

Jibberding Rest Stop, Wubin
22k N of Wubin town site on the right hand side of the Great Northern Hwy. The track goes in and comes back onto the highway about one km further on.

Loads of shady spots off the main track and well used. Close to the highway but for a free camp very nice spot to stay and with a gennie running you won't notice much road noise. No facilities there and no rubbish bins there, but the maps show a free camp about 40kms further N with amenities that are not actually there yet. That one was very bare and the Jibberding site was a lot nicer to stop at.

Galena Bridge Rest Area, Kalbarri
On the North West Coastal Hwy, 13 km N of turnoff to Kalbarri, 25 km N of Binnu, 116 km S of Billabong Roadhouse, on the banks of the Murchison River at Four Mile Pool. Free. 448 in Camps 5. Access is from either end of the high level Galena Bridge via the old bitumen road that crosses river at the lower level. Dirt tracks from the old road access the camping areas on either side of the river with the toilets located on the South bank. Pets allowed.

Top freebie by Murchison River, a beautiful wide river with lots of water during our visit. There is quite a bit of room in the main parking area on the south side of the river, addition parking is available on the north side also but that doesn't appear to have toilets; just camp tables. The south side camping area has 3 clean eco toilets accessible by ramp. Park has picnic tables and bins and shady campsites as well as sunny. Access is very pot-holed and could get quite slippery during/after rain. It was our first encounter with lots of flies which seem to be the norm from there continuing south. Hat fly-nets are a great investment at $4 from Geraldton Tourism Centre.

Beware of 1080 poison. This is designated a 24 hour stop but some travellers stay longer. It is a picturesque location on either side of the river with permanent water in the Four Mile Pool. The composting toilets are on the south bank. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, dump point, mobile wireless not available. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: The location alongside a permanent water pool. Plenty of room for an overnight stay even if arriving late in the evening. It is a popular overnight spot for travellers to and from the NW of WA.
Dislikes: The composting toilets were the first of their kind installed in WA many years ago and desperately need a clean out. You would need a strong stomach to use them. Best to use you own facilities. The dump point is not fitted with rinsing water.
Parking: The track onto the south area is eroded but not a problem with care. There is heaps of room.
Roads: Highway One is in good condition as is the old section of highway that is used to access the rest areas. The track into the south area is eroded (probably flood damage) but not a problem is care is taken.

The area would have been nice to stay except for the foul odour of the river. There was almost no water in the river and as soon as you opened the car door you were overrun by fly's. Kalbarri Anchorage Caravan Park, Kalbarri

168 Grey St. Northern route into town. Coming from the N turn right at the intersection of Ajana Kalbarri Road (road into town), and Grey St. Coming from the S go straight ahead at the intersection of Grey Street (road through town) and Ajana Kalbarri Rd. Park is at the northern end of town on the Murchison River. Ph: 08 9937 1181. Pets allowed, at manager's discretion, on leash at all times, bond of $30 applies, not during school holidays & for vans and tents only.

Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($50 2A C3 per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is very good, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Vodaphone, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided. Clean pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: The atmosphere was great.
Dislikes: The uneven surface we had to walk along to get to the toilet. There was a speed hump and at night it is hard to see so you go to the side but the road is breaking away so that makes it unsteady also. We also saw 2 elderly ladies fall of the wall around the BBQ area as they didn't realize there was a drop. Probably a tin of white paint might fix both issues.
Added Touches: The park provided karaoke one night with just a donation requested from the DJ, they also have bowling advertised on several days although we didn't attend that. Also a sausage sizzle available for purchase or burger on Thursday nights which adds a special touch. We overlooked the river and as the park sites are tiered quite a lot of sites would have river views.
Local Information: Going to the national park never loses its attraction. Still awe inspiring to look at the gorges. Shop nearby felt the need to charge for plastic bags which was only put in place after a few days of us being there and then it became apparent that that rule only applied to tourists so the lady told the person in front of me. The fish and chip shop near the park was at least $3 dearer a piece of fish that the one further up and it was delicious and generous. Much better to walk a bit further to the shops. The river is beautiful and hiring a slow boat for the day was great. Would recommend to take a picnic and stop on the way on one of the islands.
Roads: Came in coastal way and it was great. Quite a lot of roadkill and so would try and get through there before dusk.

Likes: lots of sites had good river views. Some sites were quite big, not too far to walk to shops, late check out, pool, Thursday night bbqs, had a pool if you didn't want to swim in river/ocean
Dislikes: night lighting around the park not all that good, water pressure from showers not really good, could do with more water coming out, but plenty of hot water. No shade over pool
Parking: plenty of parking whilst going to book in but a fair way up, if towing a heavy big van
Added Touches: bbq on Thursday nights for a small fee $3.00 you can get a hot dog or beefburger, egg, onion on a roll. Has fish cleaning area
Local Information: post office walking distance from camp, plenty of shops not far away, close to boat ramps, just a walk across the road to river for swim or fishing. A short drive to the many gorges but beware of the road into the windows, or zbend, they are really rough and we were in a 4WD, it really needs to be graded more, and paying to get in the national park $11.00 ticket machine not working so you need to put money into a envelope
Roads: roads to Kalbarri were great, but roads to gorges once of the main road were very rough, and needed to be graded only down fall with Kalbarri it got very windy

This was nice park with a brand new toilet block. The kids weren't that impressed with the playground but with so much to do in the area we weren't around the park that much. The laundry facilities were very clean and there were heaps of washing machines and bench space. There were also the old toilet blocks still in operation and serviced. There are very old and run down, but great for the kids being next to the playground and tent for when they were "busting". With all the piles of sand laying around it looks like the new facilities could be the beginning of other upgrades, but not sure. The camp kitchen was old but had everything you needed. We stayed here three nights and could have stayed longer. We shopped around and we were given a really good discount because it was 'off peak'. There were some lovely grass sites with views of the river. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($50 2A C3 per night, powered, off-peak season). We paid $40 per night because of I shopped around and they gave us discount. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. UC bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Central brand new toilet block, very nice. Heating and cooling in new shower/toilet area. Lovely friendly reception and wanted our business.
Dislikes: No soap in toilet, old playground. I noticed at the office they were advertising for a good reliable cleaner. While we were there they had backpackers (I think) cleaning the facilities, just wished they had looked up to see the cobwebs building around lights and taken more care cleaning the basins in the toilets/showers.
Added Touches: Sausage sizzle (for a fee) on Thursday nights
Local Information: Natures Window at the NP is beautiful, kids loved Quad Bike riding (but we thought it was a bit pricey). The canoeing with BBQ breakfast looked good too (didn't do it though). Also the Jetty Shack fish n chips were yummy.

This is a basic park which is part of the roadhouse with not many sites only 4. If you arrive after the 4 or 5 have been filled up then you need to park elsewhere, there is only 1 power box that you all need to put you cord into. Monkey Mia Dolphin Resort, Monkey Mia
Click here for park details on My Park List
26 kms east of Denham, at Monkey Mia. The only accommodation at Monkey Mia. Ph: 08 9948 1320 or 1800 653 611. Aspen Parks member. Dogs on leash ($50 bond).

On arrival and stopping to pay the DEC entry fee (note: not the same as a National Parks Pass, so not included with a pass for the Kalbarri National Park for example), the guy eyed the rig and said he didn't think they took them that big in the resort. Not an auspicious start. Although we were assured on the phone that they could provide a site big enough for our 33' 5th-wheeler, the site allocated is barely adequate, even parking at an angle, and with no room for the awning. The reception was all very professional, again insisted it was a big site, so off we went. Not easy getting round past the tent campers vehicles that stick out into the roadway, and once at the site, we paced it out. Well, we sort of fitted, but only on an angle and backed right up against the toilet block. Literally, our back ladder is less than one foot from the roof of the toilets, and our front (and bedroom) is just poking into the roadway. Fortunately there was plenty of width so we could get both slideouts out (can't really use the van with them in), but as we have to park the Chev alongside on the wider side, no room for the awning. Narrow roads and vehicles parked outside site boundaries makes navigating a big rig in the park very difficult. Cost of $53 PN 2A is very high. The roadways and paths along with the sites are all sand and shell grit, which aren't very travelscoot friendly, the absence of firm paths (other than near the villas) makes it a bit tricky for someone with trouble walking. The pool is surprisingly small for a big resort, and the artesian hot tub tiny but pleasant for a soak, though could use vacuuming out a bit more often. The toilet block closest to us is very tiny, and no doors on the showers. It seems that the caravan park and camping side of things is largely allowed to muddle along, with little management, as people cram vans, cars and boats onto their sites with little regard to how they stick out or obtrude others. It annoys me when management insists their sites are "as big as any others you'd find anywhere" when, having travelled around for nearly 4 years now, we know they are not.

I liked this park, great view, stayed hitched up for the stay and just relaxed and walked around the resort. Even though heritage listed, dolphins, emus etc in the park, they still allow dogs on lead, and all dogs were kept on lead. The dolphins came in each morning, some great cruises, and friendly staff. Prices are high for food though and the meals were not that nice, not for the price you pay. Great views from some sites, sites not too bad to get into. amenities close to nearly all sites and well kept and looked after. Likes: Very welcoming & we were invited to join a tag-a-long tour of old goldmines for a donation to RFDS. We were given directions to a lovely swimming / bird watching spot on the river. We enjoyed the cool grounds of the historic inn to read & chat with fellow travellers. The history was fascinating. It was a real outback station experience. The sunset & stars at night were amazing.
Local Information: It was not far from Mt Augustus and from Cobra we went on to the Kennedy Ranges. We bought the CD of the Gascoyne Murchison Outback Pathways (there is a book too) which tells of the history of the region & interviews with locals. Well worth the $10. Meals are available if prior notice is given.

Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, dump point, book swap available, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: The park was pleasant, clean and well set up for the caravan using the park as an overnight night stop with the drive through sites. A lot of history in the region and wish I could have stayed longer. Will go back soon.
Dislikes: The park is on the main highway and some trucks passing through seem to make a lot of noise in the middle of the night. Not the parks fault
Parking: Parking provided near the office
Added Touches: No added touches but very good value for money
Local Information: Lots of good history in the area, many free camp sites before Meekatharra worth stopping at. Lake Nallan, Granites etc.

Shire council owned park on the outskirts of town. All sites have caravan bay and parking bay. Park fenced by wire. Pay for your site at Ampol service station in town and then find the caravan park and choose your site. Ph: 08 9961 1161 (Ampol Service Staion). Don't ring the shire offices. Dogs allowed, on lead.

This park was a huge pleasant surprise, all tarmac with hard stand for both caravan and car all well laid out and drive-thru's if required. Facilities include power, water and the toilets and showers were incredibly clean with soap dispenser and paper towels. We stayed for one night on our way to Kalbarri but returned to spend a further 2 nights. Pay at the Ampol service station in town then choose your own site for $20 per night which was a bargain and cheaper for weekly stays. Highly recommend and much better than some top parks. Worthwhile stopping here.

Small laundry (2W/1D). 1 electric BBQ (free). No pool or playground. Dump point. Dogs allowed. Things to do: 3 x walks in town. Our Lady of Mt Carmel Church worth a visit. Local Information: Mullewa is a fantastic base for wildflower touring. We visited Coalseam Conservation Reserve one day (fabulous) and then across to the Mullewa/Morawa Rd and back. Another day we visited Pindar and it's surrounds as well as the walk at the town hilltop lookout.
Roads: Recommend using the Mt. Magnet Road if towing. The Mullewa/Morawa Road has only got a single strip of bitumen and semis do not get off the tar, now do they slow down. Mullewa/Mingenew Road seems to be quieter with little or no heavy truck traffic.

Possibly the best layout we've come across. Amenities block in middle with a few drive through sites (long enough to stay hitched up) other sites around edge are formed bays for van and car, with well-grassed lawn for annex between sites. Overflow sites in outer ring had slabs but no grass. Nice amenities with curtain, bench, hooks and outward opening doors in shower. Very good value for money ($17.50 2A per night, powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. It was quoted as $36 PN but we paid $30 PN, so a win there, but that is where to good ends. Score 1.5 just for being there and by the water. Overall staff was friendly enough; gave our party of 3 vans the 3 spots on the beach, where we were blown away by the wind. We all had to put awnings away fearing that they would be damaged by the blustery winds. The amenities were at least 300m away and the camp kitchen would have been 400m. If we wanted to use the Spa it was 400m, but it was closed on day 2. The amenities, one lot didn't have any hot water coming thru the pipes; the other lot had hot water, but stank, no doors on shower cubicles, just curtains, and extremely dirty, with mould in the disabled cubicle. It really is the bare minimum that could be called a caravan park. The only thing it has that is better than the free rest stops is power.

$35 per night - $33 for seniors. Good big sites, some with pads. Spacious toilets and showers but could do with an upgrade. Clean but old. Washing machines are free but beware of "red" dirt coming through from all the mine workers clothes. Very quiet park even though the bulk of the place is for mine workers - they have their own quarters away from caravan sites. Dislikes: The price
Parking: Room to park
Local Information: There is a tour of the mine, but it was cancelled due to the rain, not much else to see or do. Some staff at the information centre were not too friendly, expected you to know it was cancelled because it was raining.

A big park with big sites and the bitumened roadways are wider than most Australian highways. There is a nice clean pool but no chairs or lounges around it, a camp kitchen, BBQ areas and wifi internet. Staff are friendly and helpful. The main amenity block has four shower rooms for each gender, the rooms are about 10 feet square and contain shower, toilet and wash-basin. The only negative is that the cleaning of the amenities leaves a bit to be desired, they are cleaned but only just. Very quiet in the evening and night but, from 5am onwards the many mine workers are heading off to work so, if you're a light sleeper you will probably wake. Suitable for overnight or a longer stay.

CAW. 109 K's N of Newman off the Great Northen Highway. 750 m into camp site.

This is a 24 hour overnight camp site. Bitumen road in until camp area. Good gravel turn-arounds. Three picnic shelters. Unisex toilets. Dump point (but no water). There is a gravel track at back of camp which goes into a gorge. Good for camp trailers only or walkers. Fantastic views. Great photography. Well off the road. You will get some noise from mining road trains, but its minimal. Although we did not stay overnight, we were there for a break. Camp will take big rigs. There is signs around saying no fires, however evidence shows that travellers have had fires. The weather in the area overnight gets to 3deg. This site is in CAW 5 & 6. No wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Suitable for overnighter.
Local Information: There is lots of mining in area from Port Hedland to Newman. And to the travellers who do not like the road trains, then we suggest the coastal route. Today we encountered several over-width road trains with police escort. There were plenty of warnings from Port Hedland and from Newman. If you have UHF radio's keep them on Ch40 and this will keep you up to date.

Likes: The manager has worked hard to upgrade this park, we have stayed there quite often and have noted the improvement, with the addition of bali huts for social interaction, marked bays. Graham and his poodle Billy are very welcoming.
Dislikes: During very wet weather can be a problem with two of the sites, but have seen an improvement over the years. Only issue is the trucks on the highway at night, can be a bit noisy.

Added Touches: Good for an overnight stay, or a couple of days to explore the region.
Local Information: Walk into the town, 3 hotels that serve meals, the top pub, the middle pub and the bottom pub, the bottom pub is directly opposite the caravan park. The high rating is mainly for good value for money at $150 for a week. And that in September, wildflower season. Such a good deal we are having 2 weeks there separated by 5 nearly-double-the-price days at Monkey Mia. Graham is incredibly helpful and friendly both on the phone and in person, and we had a choice of sites for our 5th wheeler. He usually puts them up by the historic railway carriage but with slideouts both sides we'd have been a bit wide up there. We still had several choices and chose a lovely big site at the far end, not worried about a bit of a walk to the amenities, enjoying having views. Yes there is a bit of truck noise, nothing to worry about in a reasonably insulated van. We could still sleep in till gone 9am anyway, and being at the back, we weren't troubled by all those who have cleared out by 8am. The amenities are getting on in age but spotless and very spacious, and as someone who is having back and leg troubles at the moment, I could ride my little Travelscoot up there, right in, and even into the disabled toilet/shower, parking it between the door and the toilet to keep it dry. And again, there was a shower stool in there as well as a non-slip mat. I noticed the washing machines were $3 a wash which is reasonable. The Bali huts look nice but we were too busy out sightseeing to be sitting around. It's such a central location - only 50k back to Geraldton through picturesque country (the HMAS Sydney II memorial was worth seeing, beautiful), easy run through to Horrocks and Port Gregory (worth a look, including Lynton, the convict hiring depot near Port G, and the pink lake), close to the Principality of Hutt River either (aka Hutt River Province) where we were met by Prince Len himself, and only 103k by the very scenic road past Port Gregory to Kalbarri, where we enjoyed the coastal views and Rainbow Jungle (great bird park). Some of the gravel back roads through the area had the best flowers and easy to stop or crawl along for the keen wildflower spotter and photographer. The buy one get one at half price from the Blue Menu on Tues/Weds nights at "top pub" (Miners Arms) was a great deal, will try "middle pub" next time. Thanks to people who post these reports, especially indicating what else is good in the area - that's how I chose this park and so glad I did.

Nice place for an overnighter. Good clean facilities. Directly off the highway on the way into town from Perth. Friendly caretaker on site looks after you on arrival. Proximity to main road means it can be a bit noisy for trucks travelling through the night. Across the road from the pub for weary travellers. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site. Price was as expected, good value for money ($32 2A 2C per night, off-peak season). Paynes Find is 152 km N of Wubin and 145 km S of Mt Magnet on the Great Northern Hwy. Caravan park is behind the tavern. Ph: 08 9963 6111. Pets welcome.

This park has changed hands and what a difference. Friendly and helpful staff with excellent meals. I stayed one night in one of the air conditioned ensuite cabins and was excellent value at $60.00. My unit even had a TV (don't think they all do). The caravan sites looked a bit basic however there was a new toilet block - unfortunately it was locked so I couldn't check it out. If coming though in our van, would be quite happy to book in for a night. Suitable for one night. Very busy with trucks & road trains.

Thankful we did not plan to stop here but we were hoping for a cold drink and some toilet facilities. Fail. The building attached is also the local tavern and has been badly storm damaged at some point (we don't know when) and the caretaker we found told us it would be closed for at least another 2 months. We attempted to use the facilities and that was also a fail as they were unusable. We were warned they had not been cleaned, but we were welcome to use them, the ladies had that many ants and flies inside that I wasn't game to try. The town looks sadly deserted and it's hard to picture the park being inviting in any way at all. Very glad we free camped N of Wubin instead of pushing through.

Previous comments are endorsed - even the cost of a powered site remains the same at $20. There is no TV reception unless you have a dish. A basic seaside caravan park, with a big focus on fishing. The price we were charged, which includes two young children, is too high for the quality of the park. There are lots of permanent holiday vans that take up much of the park. Friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($39 2A 2C per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, annexe slabs to most sites, some sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 1). Quiet, open and roomy, many permanents. No playground, no pool.
Likes: Close to water. Children in park played nicely together.
Dislikes: Boat owners allowed to park where they liked, restricting access to sites. Fisherman allowed to carry on late into the nite one night. Some people may not like that there are no toilet dump facilities in the park or in the village.

Interesting station stay - however the cost of a powered site is too high as it is generator orientated and therefore power is not available at all times of the day. Also some high starting powered electrical equipment cannot be used. The new amenity block is good apart from their design fault of not having enough drainage. However all of these small gripes are tempered by the places of interest close by. Gnarlaroo Beach - must see pristine beach Three Mile Camp - WA best surfing beach Red Bluff and all the interesting fishing spots off rocks - as somebody said however not for the faint hearted fisherman and don't turn your back on the ocean.

Unmade section of road very rough. Average speed travelling with van 40kph for first 4kms and about 10kph for last 4kms. Amenity block was being rebuilt and they opened a cabin where we could shower; salty bore water for showering. A powered site was 2 hrs in the morning and 2 hours at night for charging batteries or running a fridge. Cooking and air conditioners not allowed - extra $4 dollars a day. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($16 2A per night, unpowered, off-peak season). Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality, no rec room, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. UC bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: This is a working sheep station with a van stay as a sideline. As we had solar and were self contained, we just picked our own spot on the station. A few sites had a shade lean to which we parked next too. Although this was very basic, we had a good time there. Wouldn't take little kids there but there were some who did.
Dislikes: Went in late March and it was still hot - 40 to 43 degrees each day. No hot water and no drinking water but we knew so we brought our own in.
Added Touches: Pretty basic but fish cleaning table was provided. Camp kitchen was very basic.
Local Information: Good fishing, some places easy to get too, others you needed to be pretty fit. Don't turn your back on the ocean up here
Roads: Very rough, I won't be taking an ordinary van in there again. Definitely off road van.

Quobba Beach Campground, Quobba Beach
80 kms N Carnarvon, on the coast. Take the road to the Blowhole, then turn left for about 1k.

This is a stunning location set on a beautiful shallow lagoon that appeared to have coral in it not far from shore; the ocean beach is a short walk along the edge of the lagoon. We did not stay at this reserve however visited and talked with some residents. The charge is $5 per night and you need to be fully self sufficient. There is a dump point at the entrance to the park but no water available, nearest is at Carnarvon 70k away. It is quite a big sprawling area with lots of fishing shacks/shanties set up along the way - the tourists seem to gather in some of the slightly larger empty spots along the lane behind the sand dunes. There were about a dozen vans in a few different groups when we visited. Mobile reception is only available from the top of the lighthouse hill, my Telstra blue tick mobile had 1 to 2 bars.
Local Information: The Blowhole and Lighthouse are worth a visit - there is an toilet at The Blowhole carpark.
Roads: Bitumen to The Blowhole then dirt from there to the camping ground.

One of two top places - the other being Tjukayirla - to stay while on your journey along the Great Central Road. We stayed on a powered site with 2A 3C for $25. Big kitchen and dining area, shower and toilet area was great, helpful people running the park - Giles weather station is just up the road if you want to see them launch weather balloons. As far as roadhouses go this is not a bad place to spend a day or two. Behind the roadhouse there is a camping/caravan area with a limited number of powered sites and unpowered sites for camping or vans. There are a number of camp fire rings (wood not supplied - as you come into Warakurna there is a sign telling you to pick up wood if you want a fire). There was no laundry as such but there were clean washing machines in both amenities and at $2 we caught up on laundry. Picnic tables and small shelters were scattered around the campground. Adequate camp kitchen and barbecue. Accommodation units also available. There is no kiosk as such but the roadhouse has all the necessary supplies. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation.
