Corner of Great Northern & Wittenoom road. Route 95 half way between Newman and Port Hedland. Ph: 08 9176 6988. Dogs on leash.
For a roadhouse stop this is one of the better ones. Very basic but clean and well grassed. There is a camp kitchen but again very basic. Meals are obtainable in the roadhouse but are very expensive - $18.00 for fish and chips Average staff friendliness, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($27 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, kiosk. Noisy, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Nice to have grass sites in a roadhouse caravan park
Dislikes: The generator runs 24 hours a day and is very noisy
Parking: At the roadhouse
Local Information: Karajini National Park
Roads: Road a bit bumpy

Neds Campground, Cape Range National Park
Just south of Exmouth. Neds is approximately 10 km south of the ranger station at the entrance to the national park and the first of 8 campgrounds along the coast, each with a very limited number of sites. Ph: 08 9949 1676. Park entry fee applies.
The sites are allocated on a first come first serve basis at 8am each morning directly from the ranger at the entrance or 1/4 hour later from CALM in Exmouth. The wind is strong a lot of the time and Neds is the least exposed; a number of sites are nestled between the dunes immediately behind beach, some with shade from established pine trees. Sites mostly flat and a good size. Generators allowed at one end. Two sets of clean airy pit toilets. Good quality bore water available short drive further down the road. National Parks volunteers and lovely people, Gwen and Norm, have been campground hosts here, in the season, for over 10 years. Happy hour is at 5pm each day at the picnic tables in front of their van. Entrance to national park is a one-off $10, come and go as you please while staying. Site fee $13 (2A). Good value. If you are self sufficient for power this simple setting is a great base for enjoying the stunning beaches and coral reef of Ningaloo Marine Park. Downside is the wind.

Bayview Coral Bay Holiday Park, Coral Bay
Coral Bay Access Road. First park you come to as you enter town - opposite shopping centre. Ph: 08 9385 6655 or 08 9385 7411. Dogs on leash. Dog levy $2 per dog per night.
A very average park for a high cost. Friendly management. Poor value for money. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, poor water quality, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, dump point. Poor atmosphere to park, open and roomy park. Clean UC gas bbq. Good clean pool, kid-safe pool area, seating around the pool was provided. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families.
Likes: It was quiet but would depend on the group at the time all though management are working to keep a handle on this issue Walking distance to shops and beach.
Dislikes: Dirty Dusty sites. Trees drip salt water at night which covers everything that's under them. Bad for cars and caravans. Expensive for what is provided. Amenities need upgrading. Dog levy.
Parking: Difficult when busy.
Roads: Bitumen roads but verges contain a red sticky clay.

Polite reception, given a map and directed to our site. A very large park, but bookings essential in peak winter season. Rather unkempt, with deep sand on roads and very dusty when wind blows. Powered and unpowered sites are mixed in together, some of them in a separate area alongside cabins, chalets and lodges. Most of park well shaded but some areas have absolutely none. There are also a couple of private campgrounds within the boundaries, and a number of permanents at the rear of the park. Sites are level, mostly grass and sand, with some annexe pads, and are of reasonable size. Taps at sites have bore water at up to 60? and the water is corrosive, so you are advised NOT to connect your hose to it. However it is quite OK for showering, dishwashing etc but salt content not good for laundering. Fresh drinking water is available at various points and was found to be quite potable. There are five amenities blocks, some of which are modern and others requiring renovation. Cubicles are small, no mops or hand dryers provided, but are reasonably clean despite number of people using them; they appear adequate in numbers to handle peak crowds. Other amenities include five barbecue areas, two very basic children's playgrounds, small pool area, tour kiosk, licensed restaurant with takeaways, volleyball and tennis courts. Reasonably well lit at night. Good mobile phone signal. No dump point, have to drive to rubbish tip 1km away. Supermarket located in shopping centre opposite, together with a terrific bakery. Five minute walk to calm waters of Bills Bay, about fifteen minutes walk to snorkelling area. Price of $33 2A for powered site reflects remoteness and popularity of Coral Bay, but even with seventh night free is not good value for conditions.
Likes: Location.
Dislikes: Often noisy at night, even after ten o'clock. Very crowded. Constantly walking in sand wherever you go. No dump point. Suitable for short and long stays. Would stay again of necessary, but Peoples Park up the road is better although possibly more expensive.

Amenities near to our site were near new and very clean. Drinking water is not supplied to sites but can be obtained at various points in the park. Taps on sites supply dangerously hot salty water. Sandy sites, no grass and very dusty roads in the park. Showers and hand basins in amenities are also salt water as is the water to the washing machines. Some sites are very shaded but some have no shade at all. Never take a site near the camp kitchen, campers and young people are noisy and drinking there until all hours of the night and do not adhere to the 10 pm no noise rule. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($30.00 2A per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, small sites, poor water quality. Basic laundry. Noisy, claustrophobic park. Basic playground.
Likes: The park is within walking distance to the beach and shops.
Dislikes: The park is very busy in peak times and traffic does not always travel slowly enough for the amount of children about. Washing is left on the clothes lines for days and there is no where to hang washing. There is not nearly enough washing lines.

A very average affair. Possibly the worst site I have stayed at in Western Australia. The water supply is salt water from a bore and you are advised not to connect it to your caravan as it is corrosive. Four freshwater taps are available on site so you can be assured of a long walk for water. The toilets and showers are in poor condition, generally dirty and have no soap or hand drying facilities. The showers are salt water. The grassed sites contain little grass and the roads are fine dust which blows into the air at the slightest gust. It is always quite windy in Coral Bay. The trees around the park drip some form of resinous substance on your car or caravan which is difficult to remove. The site also has a large residential area which resembles a refugee camp complete with corrugated iron or shade cloth enclosures and a good assortment of wrecked cars no doubt leaking oil and fuel into the environment. Unless you are hell bent on seeing the coral reef in this area, don't waste your time driving the 12 kilometres off the main road and carry on to Exmouth where the coral reef is equally impressive and camp facilities much better. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($25 2A powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, poor water quality. Poor laundry. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Clean $1 electric bbq, dismal bbq area. Dirty pool, pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area.
Date 10/2006. Park Rating 1: Suitable for few days.
Report submitted by Darryl Edwards, Mandurah WA.

Although this is a large park in the peak season it is essential to book to save disappointment. The tap water in Coral Bay is artesian which is unsuitable for drinking and washing cars therefore the park recommends that you don't connect the water to the caravan as it is very corrosive. Fresh drinking water is available at various points throughout the park Friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($27 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry. Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq ($1), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean heated pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Walking distance to the beach and shops.
Dislikes: The trees around the park are salt tolerant but drop a salt solution during the night and once it is on your car and caravan is very difficult to wash off. The amenities need to be renovated.
Parking: Outside reception, but there is usually a long line of vans.
Added Touches: Tennis courts, beach volley ball courts and a licensed cafe
Local Information: Snorkelling, fishing, quad bike tours.
Roads: Good

Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Booking had been made in Jan 08 and although the rates had increased by 25%, they still honoured the price originally quoted - hats off to them for their professionalism. Location directly opposite the beach was unbeatable.
Dislikes: Full every night and were already fully booked for all of the 2009 school holidays a year ahead.
Local Information: Great feed at Fin's Cafe, snorkelling in knee deep water on Ningaloo Reef, baby reef sharks at Skeleton Beach & daily Snapper Feeding. Supermarket adjacent to the caravan park was a lot cheaper than the other one in the middle of town.

Big sites neat and tidy although a number of sites were very sandy most likely due to the busy period. No drinking water to site but available from fresh water tank at ablution blocks. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Dislikes: No park lighting.

Really nice position opposite the beach, with just a quiet road in between. They have a number of sites deemed to be "waterfront" as opposed to those towards the back of the park, but they are not all actually waterfront. Grass makes a wonderful change and there are many shade trees. Amenities are older, but well maintained and seem to be enough to cater for the school holiday influx. Water is undrinkable, but taps nearby or bring your own. Cost was exorbitant - $36.00/night 2A, not necessary to have air conditioning on here at this time of year, so hard to rationalise the cost. There is no pool. People spend most of the day at the very safe beach. The Ningaloo Reef is immediately offshore, so snorkelling is easy and fun. Expensive mini marts nearby, but the bakery is fantastic. Best to bring all supplies.
Likes: Position, position, position.
Dislikes: Cost - not justified due to lack of extras (like pool) offered.
Tour: Ningaloo Reef:- whale sharks in season, snorkel with manta rays. Dugongs, dolphins can be seen.
Date 10/2007. Park Rating 3.5: With a large freezer (and wallet), you could stay for weeks.

This park is reasonable, but could be better with better trained staff and better road/site maintenance. Security gate was non-operational for the two weeks we were there. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($33.00 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, car wash, dump point. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is open to sun. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Likes: No pets policy. New ablution block.
Dislikes: Staff friendly but not able to handle problems well, eg bringing forward a two week booking added an additional day's tariff, even though staying two weeks only. Roads dreadful - so high above sites that our van could not be backed in without gouging into the ground. To their credit, they changed our site to another more suitable immediately. Drains smelly now and then. Inadequate night lighting. Not value for money.

Member of the Aspen Group of parks which prides itself in the quality of its parks. This was our second experience in an Aspen park and we were disappointed for the second time. Overnight rate is high in relation to the quality of the park. Out site was small and poorly maintained. There are no dump points in the park. Laundry facilities are less than average with old machines and a need for cleaning. Our site, along with many others, was built high off the road, which made it difficult to access. Staff at front desk were helpful and friendly but we will avoid staying in Aspen Parks in the future.

Exmouth Lighthouse Caravan Park, Exmouth
About 16 km north through Exmouth on Yardie Creek Road, right below the lighthouse. Straight through Exmouth, turn left to Cape Range National Park and on left. Ph: 08 9949 1478.
Large park, very crowded during peak season, bookings essential. Well positioned for Ningaloo Reef and beaches. Friendly reception, given map to site, warned re saline water from bores and that fresh water available from tanks in park. Variety of accommodation including chalets and cabins, powered and unpowered sites and tent areas. Powered sites were generally roomy and well shaded, many had concrete annexe pads. Water and sullage to sites, water OK for washing but not for drinking. Apart from pads, sites were gritty sand, as were roads although mostly kerbed and guttered. Three amenity blocks through park, moderately clean but as there were no outside showers they soon got very sandy. Cubicles small, no mop provided so shower floors constantly wet and grubby. No soap or hand drying provided. Amenities were generally insufficient for the numbers in the park, especially at peak times of day, and often had to wait for a toilet to be available. Shop on site with reasonable range of groceries and fishing tackle. Unleaded and diesel available at lower price than in Exmouth. Other amenities included gas barbecues (coin), very basic camp kitchens, two swimming pools, café during high season. Toilet dump site located inside one of the laundries and only available between 7pm and 7am. Public phone on site, but no mobile phone signal as park located in a blind spot. A short drive up to lighthouse gave a signal, as well as good whale watching. 100 meters walk to shore of Lighthouse Bay, nice beach walk but swimming not advisable because of rocks and currents – better beaches a short drive away. Despite crowding and shortcomings park had a reasonable ambience and would stay again. Cost $33 2A for 2 adults considered in line with other parks; seventh night is free. Suitable for short or longer stay.

Fairly large but neglected/uncared for caravan park. Lots of chalets at various prices, most sites concrete pad. Pad surrounded by beach type (dirty) sand. Some tent sites with grass. No effort made to clean up sites after people leave. Grass on tent sites never mowed. Amenities cleaned every day but not into corners, need a good scrub and a good revamp is required, more toilets, more showers, more washing machines. Not enough amenities for the number of people. All showers bore/salt water. Drinking water purified bore/salt water, not good tasting. Location of park is terrific, but spending some of the money received and putting it back into the park would be a good idea. Seems lots of $'s coming in but not much going out on park. Stayed 2 weeks from 23rd July to catch up with family.

Large park, with a fair number of permanents scattered throughout. Quite a few ablutions blocks, which varied in design and quality. We had an annex slab, but it appeared that we were in the minority. Laundry in each ablutions block had different number of washing machines, while each took $3 some used 3 x $1 and some 1 x $1 and 1 x $2. Park has onsite Italian restaurant which we didn't try. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($31.5 2A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Cleaners turned up at our ablutions block before 8am, so if you slept in somebody had a long trek to the next nearest block for a shower.

Likes: Dog friendly, separate section for dog owners with a small ensuite ablution block. The swimming pool was very pleasant, but could get crowded during the afternoon (albeit during school holidays).
Dislikes: Not especially well maintained. It appears a dog or dogs from local residences come into to the park from time to time and create mess.

Large park, majority of which is completely without shade. Several sections for caravans, one set aside for dog owners. Sites level, and average to small in size. Water, power and sullage close. Three large amenities blocks operating. Well maintained, clean and spacious, two with laundry with several washing machines all in working order at the time of our stay. One new block of 4 large ensuite style bathrooms. Swimming pool being rebuilt; the work was constant and noisy during the day. Well equipped playground. Bbq area with tables and chairs. Rec room didn't seem to be functioning. Italian restaurant on premises, which we didn't try. At $32 (2A, powered) this park was overpriced and overrated, in view of some advertised facilities not being available. Reception staff seemed a bit jaded and were in no hurry even when there was a queue of people waiting. Fellow campers in our section were long staying annual returnees, friendly but very loud. Fishing parties regularly set off with boats on trailers at 5am. Will try another park next time.

Parts of the park are shaded and some parts are very sunny. The roads in the park are also very dusty and there is no grass on the sites. Dusty rather unkempt looking park. The rec room was empty all but a table tennis table. The pool was empty and had been so for a month and workmen were still working on it but we were not advised of this when we booked in. When we arrived there was one working washing machine out of the three at the block nearest our site by the next day there was one and the following day none. Clothes lines also needed repair. The amenities were very old and not very well kept. We would not use this park again. Unfriendly staff, staff helped us at the site. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($32.00 2A per night). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by. Poor laundry, basic rec room. Basic playground in average condition.

Very busy, the amenities barely adequate and dirty throughout our stay. Staff almost rude on first approach as we didn't have a reservation. We stayed 4 days in unpowered site as no powered sites available and we were waiting for the weather to clear to do a Ningaloo Reef trip. (worth it). Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($22.50 2A unpowered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites. Basic laundry. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. Clean pool is shaded.
Likes: Walking distance to shops etc.
Dislikes: Noisy, crowded, dirty amenities.

Yardie Creek Homestead Caravan Park, Exmouth
2 kms from Cape Range National Park and 32 kms from Exmouth. Ph: 08 9949 1389.
Manager's name is James & Leah. This park has the potential to be really good but requires a large injection of capital and a lot of hard work to bring it up to an acceptable standard. Average staff friendliness, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, kiosk. Peaceful, open and roomy, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No permanents. Dogs on leash. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to Cape Range National Park and the Ningaloo Marine Park beaches. Excellent for fisherfolk as there are many places to launch boats.
Dislikes: Limited electricity. Insufficient garbage bins, which meant that they were constantly overflowing, but even when they were emptied they were not washed out so they smelt the whole time. There were a number of showers, toilets and washing machines that were out of order and nothing appeared to be done to repair any faults or improve the general surrounds.
Parking: Outside reception.
Added Touches: Roast dinner on Sunday night during the season.
Local Information: Ningaloo Marine Park, Yardie Creek Cruises, Whale, Manta Ray and Whale Shark cruises out of Exmouth, snorkelling and fishing.

Dales Campground, Karijini National Park
Park entry fee applies. No pets allowed. Located 18 kilometres from eastern entrance to Park off Karijini Drive, between Great Northern Highway and Tom Price. No bookings taken, proceed direct to campground without going to Visitor Centre (for late arrivals signs direct you to an overnight overflow area). Met at campground by volunteer hosts, friendly and obliging, allocated a site and layout explained. Sites are in bushland around several loop roads, one of which allows generators. Sites are large, gravel surfaced and well separated from each other – some of them give the feeling of complete solitude. No power or water, but several very clean and well maintained composting toilets around each loop. Showers and telephone (out of order at time) available at Visitor Centre 10 kms away, water at overflow area. No open fires, gas only. Several free gas barbecues located on each loop. Ten to twenty minutes walk to Dales Gorge depending on where you are in the campground. Run by the National Park and one of the best campgrounds we have been in. Thoroughly recommended for short or longer stay as long as you are self sufficient, as it's a long way to nearest town (Tom Price, over 100 kms). $6 pp per night ($4.50 for pensioners and seniors) very reasonable.

Either east from Tom Price along Karijini Drive or turn west off Great Northern Highway onto Karijini drive 100 kms north of Newman. Dales campground is in Karijini National Park and is located right next to Dales Gorge. The campsite are basic with only a shared long drop toilet between three or four sites there is no power or water. The sites are divided into areas called loops with one area set aside for campers with generators. You have to take your own rubbish out as there are no bins or rubbish collection. The sites are spaced about 100 metres apart and there is some shared BBQ facilities for each loop. The road in is tar sealed all the way in except for the last kilometre. The campground is managed by volunteers called camp hosts. Karijini has a number of gorges with permanent water pools and water falls with some accessible by gravel road suitable for two wheel drive cars. There are a number of walk trails graded into various levels of difficulty. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected ($12 A1 per night unpowered). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, average sized sites.

Karijini Eco Retreat, Karijini National Park
Park entry fee applies. Off Weano Road, Karijini National Park. Turnoff is 29 km along Bunjima Drive from the Bunjima Drive & Karijini Drive intersection at the western end of the park closest to Tom Price. Ph: 08 9425 5591. No pets allowed.
Campground is associated with the tent village eco-lodge. Sites are barely improved red dirt (which appears almost oily in its ability to stick to anything it touches), in several loops. Each loop has a barbecue area, bathroom with toilet/basin/shower, separate toilet cubicle with basin and separate shower cubicle (phone box sized) with basin. All were dirty, partly because the red dust gets into everything, but also because they didn't appear to get cleaned. Sites at the far end of the loop were a long way from the facilities. Sites don't have power or water, and you have to take out all rubbish as there are no bins. We chose this over Dales because they have showers and flush toilets, but given the state of these facilities it was an expensive mistake. The campers can use the facilities at the eco-lodge, but these don't amount to much more than a bar and restaurant. Most of the restaurant meals were of the bbq-yourself variety, which rather defeats the purpose of a night out. You must bring in all food and water, as there is nothing for sale at the eco-lodge, or anywhere else in the national park. The nearest shop/fuel is at Tom Price, about 80km from the eco-lodge. Poor value for money ($25 2A per night, unpowered). Dirty UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: Toilets at restaurant were no different from the ones at the camp ground, with no soap provided even though most meals were cook-yourself - surely against some health regulation. Price was a rip-off for the basic camp ground provided.
Local Information: Karajini National Park is certainly worth a few days' visit - spectacular gorges and terrific walking.
Roads: 30km unsealed road into eco-lodge.

We paid for a standard eco tent but were upgraded free of charge to a deluxe eco tent with an ensuite due to a booking error. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($157 2A C1 per night Eco Tent). Eco Tent was clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. No rec room, kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Atmosphere and location was spectacular and unbeatable.
Dislikes: Having to take all of your rubbish out with you when you left. Due to very limited facilities and resources, the description of the dinner meals at the restaurant sounded a lot more sophisticated than they were in reality.
Local Information: Karijini National Park - the gorge walks were phenomenal. Our 3yo could tackle most of the Class 4 walks with no issues at all. We went to Dales, Hancock, Joffre, Kalamina, Knox, Oxer and Weano Gorges. Unfortunately did not get to Hamersley Gorge as it was a 180km round trip on predominantly dirt roads. Don't miss Handrail Pool, the Spider Walk and Kermit's Pool if you are at all able. Despite what the information boards indicate, in the dry season these can all be done without getting wet if you do some rock climbing.
Roads: Dirt roads everywhere within the NP except leading to the Visitors Centre from Karijini Dr and out to Dales Gorge. The corrugations were quite bad in some parts and they had only graded the road a month ago. We negotiated it in a low clearance 2WD with very minimal hassles.

Karratha Caravan Park, Karratha
Lot 1060 Moolingunn Road. Turn left from main road 3 km north of the town at the industrial estate. Ph: 08 9185 1012 A/H: 0419 866 195. Dogs on leash.
A two star park with a five star price ($35 per night 2A) in a one star location (an industrial estate). Easy to find, about 2kms along the main entry road to Karratha, turn right. It's well sign posted. A basic park with only one, fairly large, amenity block, some dirty barbecues and a mini-mart and liquor store. At the time of our stay, virtually the whole park was occupied by workers and resembled a shanty town with all kinds of home-made awnings, washing lines strung between trees or vans, etc. Next to our site was a pile of six or seven old tyres, covered with bird droppings, which didn't appear to belong to anyone. A few people made their vans tidy and attractive but most did not. There are lots of trees and lots of Corellas inhabiting them with the resultant mess on cars, vans and awnings. The toilets and showers were clean but the shower cubicles were very small and there was no bench or shelf, just two or three hooks on the door. Anything left on, or near, the floor, got wet. Showers were hot and strong. The only problem with the cleaning is that the men's was closed for cleaning between 8am and 9am. Not a good time for most travellers! Staff were friendly and helpful. A surprisingly quiet park through the day and in the evening, even at weekends. The only time there was any noise was from 4.30am when there would be radios going, car doors banging as people went to work plus, somewhere on the industrial estate, some machinery with a reversing beeper would start work.

Local authorities are attempting unsuccessfully to keep these closed and prevent camping on the riverbank itself in order to improve picnic ground. Correct access road is about 600m on the Karratha side of bridge, winds up and down for about 1km through grazing land. Site itself is exposed, even surface but quite sloping in places. Could accommodate about a dozen vans comfortably. No shade. River bank area shady and attractive. Good swimming place.

Large park, always full in peak periods, booking essential. Staff were friendly and helpful and put us on site. Almost all sites were powered, some with ensuite. Each site was level and had full concrete van and annexe pads, with cars parked in the wide sealed roads. Good water, power and sullage to all sites. One way roads, all sealed, cable security barrier. Two amenities blocks, clean and well maintained, adequate for numbers. Hot water sometimes slow in coming through, but good flow when it arrives. Shower and toilet cubicles very small, no curtains so wet floors inevitable. Mop supplied. Two laundries, $4 for washing machines. Other facilities include clean BBQ area (free), pool, TV room, playground, dump point, car wash ($5). Shop has now closed permanently. Internet access advertised but at time of visit was not available, "being upgraded". Public telephone at reception area. Powered sites are scattered through park so not all are close to pool or office as a previous report stated. Reasonably well lit at night. Cost of $42 2A for powered site before discount considered excessive but in line with high charges made by Big4 parks and Aspen in particular. Suitable for short and long term stay (if you can afford it).

Good playground in good condition. Very good clean pool, area is shaded, kid-safe pool area, seating around the pool was provided. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for a few days, the park was well maintained, the park can be considered kid-safe.
Likes: The park staff were very friendly and helpful, the sites were close to the pool, shop, TV room and amenities.
Dislikes: Lots of permanents in this park who start very early in the morning, so there were a lot of cars exiting the park from about 4am until 6.30am. The powered sites are close to the exit so you hear every one of them.
Local Information: Don't miss Point Samson and Cossack. Point Samson has a very new caravan park, not much shade and no pool, but you are very close to the water. You can stay in the accommodation in Cossack for about $60 per family per night. I wish we had known about this, as we would have checked out earlier and stayed in Cossack.

Likes: Very well located on the beach front, tidy little foreshore. Most of the sites had concrete pads. Friendly staff.
Dislikes: Amenities were few and very basic. Poor water pressure.
Local Information: Not much to see in Onslow, it's basically a small fishing village, but good for a few days. Sunrise Beach nice for a dip.

A two star park at a four star price ($30 per night 2A) in a five star location. The park is basic, an amenity block with laundry, a barbecue and that's it. The amenities are basic: small cubicles, no soap, no towels, no air-blower. The park is not attractive, a few unattractive-looking cabins scattered around and the ground is mainly sand. The roadways are bitumen but partially covered by sand. Positives: The powered sites are of a good size, most with a new concrete annexe pad and separated from its neighbour by garden beds. There is an extension area for the high season, with another amenity block. In this area the ground is just sand and gravel and there are a number of mature trees. The management is friendly and helpful. The park is quiet, right next to the beach (We were lucky enough to get a beachside site, angled so that we could sit outside and look across Beadon Bay.). Suitable for any length of stay (In the season: May to September you will need to book in advance).

The park is located right on the beach our site had absolute beach frontage with a concrete slab. We probably wouldn't stay more than a week although it has many long term tourist of a month or more probably because of the fishing lifestyle. Friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Likes: Close to the beach and walking distance to town. A place you can just relax and do nothing for a few days. Great place if you like fishing and boating.
Dislikes: Amenities were a bit old and need upgrading. Showers cubicles were very small.

Pleasantly surprised as expectations were low but other than the amenities this overnighter was quite good. Can't book though so best grassed sites are given to earliest arrivals. Very friendly staff, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($48 2A 2C per night, powered, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor, dry change area. $35 per night. Easy to find as the main Point Samson road runs past the park. Very nice new park on headland with views over the ocean. Very short walk to general store, pub and fish and chips café, and to either of the two beaches. Sites had a double concrete block with grass and plants between each site. Wide roads made backing in so much easier. Toilet block had large cubicles and were adequate for full park. BBQ area with tables and benches, plus recreation room. No swimming pool. Liked – Moby’s fish and chips. Also Port to Port tour which was both interesting and excellent value for $5 per person – book ahead through Roebourne Visitors’ Centre.

We stayed in an ensuite site. Nice large ensuite, large bench area to unpack onto, good shower cubicle with curtain, good shower rail but no hook. Hot water was unreliable, the shower alternated between too cold and too hot, we couldn't get it adjusted to stay at the correct temperature. Concrete slab for both annex and van, gravel site for car next to the annex slab. Our site was level. Nice wide street so easy to get into site. Laundry had 4 washing machines at $4 per load, no dryer and only 4 rotary clothes lines, so you needed to get your laundry done early or you'd have nowhere to hang it. Park is right on the beach, so caters for both family beach holidays as well as travellers. Park is quite dear, but most things in this part of the world seem to be. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($49 2A per night, ensuite, peak season). Inadequate number of tourist sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Dirty gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Manager's name is Charlie & Irene Van Herk. This park has only been operating for around 4 years and is well laid out and maintained with a beautiful outlook over the sea. Would definitely stay again. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($35 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Being a new park it has been well laid out with thought given to grassed access strips behind vans. The showers are large and dry area stays dry and showers are separate from the toilet area. As cars are parked adjacent to the site and the roads are nice and wide, it makes for easy reversing.
Dislikes: Even though we were on a concrete slab we still had to use blocks to level the van. The undercover seating area for the bbq is some distance from the bbq which was not cleaned during out stay. Don't like having to pay $1 to wash the car after paying the $35 per night. The current ablution block is not big enough to cope at peak times and sufficient ablution blocks should have been built at the start.
Parking: Outside reception
Added Touches: Mini mart, fish cleaning table, gas refills.
Local Information: Tours run from Roebourne Visitors Centre to Cape Lambert & Cossack 3 times per week between May-October and at $5 per person is excellent value. There are visitors centres at Roebourne and Karratha where you can book for the various tours on offer. There are two beaches close to the park which are safe for swimming. Harding River Dam is well worth visiting (25 km of good gravel road from Roebourne).
Roads: Good.

Newly opened in 2006. Has everything expected in a new park, actually after all the dust and dirt in parks further north, this is almost too perfect. Well thought out - wide streets, suitable sized amenities, sealed roads, large slabs, gravel site for vehicle. There is a playground, but no pool. Internet and games room is large and airy. There is an area yet to be developed so maybe a pool then. Most sites have a small ocean view. A very pretty beach is just a short walk away and is safe swimming. Nearby are a small store, tavern and takeaway with good fish & chips.
Likes: Local fish co-op.
Visit: Dampier coastline and Gas Shelf Project.
Tour: A free tour of the local area and mine leaves from Roebourne Information Centre some days - very interesting.

Most of the regular sites in this park are taken up with permanent residents. The tourists are mostly put into what the manager called the 'overflow' area. At some stage there have been grand plans for this park, which have not been completed. The tourists are in an unfinished area in red dirt (this was explained to us when we booked in). There are a lot of unfinished sites covered in long grass and bushes. Part of this has been cleared to dirt for travellers to use. It seems that new management is trying to finish what someone else started and if they accomplish this and the sites are not taken up by workers and permanents, this could be a good park. There are not enough amenities in this park and they are quite a distance from the tourist sites. The area that is under construction seems to be being built with ensuite facilities. If ever completed this will be a big caravan park. Washing facilities are not adequate for the tourists and the clothes lines are full from dawn to dark with workers clothes which does not give travellers anywhere to hang washing. Average management. Reasonable value for money. Average amenities, were clean, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Poor sites, sites were level, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, dump point. Park atmosphere was okay, too many permanents for this park. Average pool, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for overnighter.

Park is an Aspen Parks member as well as BIG4. Nice park with concrete slab for caravan, annex and car. Campervan sites did not have car slab, tent sites had concrete slab for car, and green matting for tent so not dusty. Grounds were well maintained. Park is on a point next to beach, so pretty quiet, with views. Van parking assistance provided for all. Need to book in peak season. This is a very well maintained park with friendly staff and good amenities. Sites are roomy and all have concrete pads for car, van and awning. Good views from some. Wireless internet available. Bookings essential in peak season – park was always booked out by midday. Roads are narrow and some sites difficult to access, but staff always helped. Good views of Staircase to The Moon on the right nights. Some noise at night from distant iron ore loaders if wind in certain direction, but not obtrusive. Concerns: This is a BIG4 park owned by the Aspen group, which means prices are higher than other parks and becoming beyond the reach of those on limited incomes. For example, washing machines are $4 compared to $3 elsewhere, car washing cost $5, free elsewhere, Internet $15 minimum. Price of $39 2A before discount for powered site considered expensive.
Date 07/2008. Park Rating: 4.5. Would certainly stay again, if only because there is little other alternative in Port Hedland.

Port Hedland Caravan Park, Port Hedland
Great Northern Highway. Well sign-posted, behind the truck stop on the highway to Broome. Ph: 08 9172 2525.

A fire on 10th June has destroyed some of the truck stop buildings but apparently the caravan park is untouched. Check upon booking

Like most parks in the north-west, most of the tenants are workers in the various industries of the area. There are two amenity blocks, both shabby but functional. Unfortunately a few of the tenants' toilet habits leave a lot to be desired. There is a nice, shaded, pool, which could do with a bit of TLC and a basic BBQ area. The main caravan site area has lawn and some attractive native trees. During our stay we found the staff to be friendly and helpful although new managers were due to take over the following week, hopefully there'll be no change in staff attitude. The truck stop, being what it is, has a lot of trucks starting and stopping, refuelling or the drivers reviving, and, at times, mainly late afternoon and evening, there is a bit of noise but we didn't find it intrusive. Being on the Broome side of town it is a good place to stop if you are travelling north.

South Hedland Caravan Park, Port Hedland
Hamilton Road, South Hedland. 1 km north-west of Post Office. Good signage from the main highway, 1 km from South Hedland shopping centre. Ph: 08 9172 1197.
This park needs a lot of TLC. The RAC book gives this park 4 stars, however there is no way this is a 4 star park. Very unfriendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, reasonable value for money ($24 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, secure entry. Quiet, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Too many permanents. Pets at manager's discretion. No bbqs, no playground. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to the South Hedland Shopping centre
Dislikes: The park has been allowed to run down and is badly in need or repair, renovation and maintenance

Tom Price Tourist Park, Tom Price
Near Hamersley Range National Park. Located 3 kilometres from town centre in Nameless Valley Drive, off Mine road. Turn left at the entrance to the town and then right past the sewage pond. Ph: 08 9189 1515. No pets allowed.
Quite a way out of town but well signposted. A beautiful setting at the foot of Mount Nameless, lots of attractive trees, lots of birds, and the kangaroos come in to eat the green, green grass. There appears to be two areas, an older one, which contains mainly permanents and long termers, and a newer area which is mainly tourists. In the latter the sites are large, most with a pink concrete annexe pad, surrounded by lawn. The roadways are wide and of red gravel. Each area has an amenity block, each with a laundry, and the one we used was fairly modern and good to use. There is a nice pool area but no seating around the pool. Staff are friendly and helpful and can arrange tour bookings. There is a new camp-kitchen and a children's play area. As you sit outside, having that little beverage just before dinner, the galahs, corellas and pigeons come and join you and the kangaroos graze only a couple of feet away, and you could be out in the bush somewhere. A quiet, peaceful park, a pleasure to stay in.

This is the only park in a typical mining town and their attitude suggested they didn't give a rats about their customers. What disgusted me the most apart from the $30 a night extra they decided to charge when we arrived compared to the price quoted over the phone when we booked (apparently due to a change in ownership), was the appalling discrimination shown against families. All the other parks we have stayed in (over 50) have charged anywhere from zero (in a lot of cases for our 3yo) to $5-10 per child but this park charged $30 per night. We will never stay here again. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($164 2A C1 per night cabin). Cabin was clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Clean UC bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in poor condition. Clean pool is open to the sun, pool area not considered kid-safe. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Disgusting profiteering and discrimination against families.
Local Information: Pilbara Mine Tour.

We had no problem with courtesy or attitude of staff – all were friendly and helpful. Large park with a variety of accommodation and quite a few permanents and long stay workers. Quiet location backed by bush with awesome view of Mount Nameless. Sites generally large, gravel surfaced, some grass. Good water to all. Two amenity blocks appeared adequate even in peak times but a little tired although clean enough. However there was always water on the floor in showers, plus red dirt from boots of workers, despite provision of mops. Park had playground, camp kitchen, dump point (strangely located inside one of the laundries!) Price of $33 2A for powered site considered a little high, but there is no competition in town. This was our second visit and we would certainly stay again. Suitable for short or longer stay.

We arrived at the same time as four other vehicles to check in. The two receptionists became one as the older said she was going and departed as the other answered a very long telephone call and kept us all waiting. We were then directed to a muddy site because the sprinkler was still running and when we requested relocation were treated with ungracious contempt. Very unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Price was as expected ($20 2A per night powered). No pool.
Likes: The park isn't bad but it is the only park in town - we will never stay here again.
Dislikes: Attitude by reception both on checking in and on checking out when obtaining our key deposit the following day.
Date 08/2006. Park Rating 2: Suitable for overnighter.

$10 deposit on amenity key (though we were 6 km from town). No deposits given back before 8 a.m. Enquired what happen if we wanted to leave before that time. You can have your money & key back at 6:30 the night before, but you would not have access to the amenity block, as we had paid $25 a night we thought we were entitled to use these facilities. The attitude was "take it or leave it" not their problem. Very poor management. Reasonable value for money. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Average sites, sites were level, the site size was okay, adequate taps close by. Laundry, disabled facilities. Poor atmosphere to park. Average pool. Clean pool. The park was well maintained.

Well signposted as you enter town from any direction. It was pleasant to find such a nice caravan park amongst all the red dirt in a mining town. Cars can be washed with prior arrangement with the management. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, van parking. Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No pets allowed. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: There were very few permanents. The permanent area was totally separate from the tourist sites making it pleasant for everyone.
Dislikes: The dry change area got wet as once again the shower heads were facing the door and there was no curtain or shower door to catch the water.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: Karajini National Park and the Tom Price Mine tour which was excellent
Roads: Full tar and fairly good condition.

Harding River Caravan Park, Roebourne
Adjacent to North West Coastal Highway, north of Roebourne. Ph: 08 9182 1063. Dogs on leash.
Manager's name is Mill Family. Owners in process of modernising at present, were fun, friendly and attentive. Grocery items, ice creams, sweets were available at the office. We were only going to stay a couple of nights and ended up there for a week - would like to have stayed longer. The park was clean and the amenities though not modern were comfortable and convenient to all parking. There was good local information and was a great base to visit other towns and tourist spots e.g. Karratha, Dampier, Cossack, and the nice clean pool a welcome spot after sightseeing. The free bus trip from the tourist centre in Roebourne was great and travellers are welcome to join in the local craft days in the old gaol tourist and community centre if they wish to. Can thoroughly recommend a stay. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($24.00 2A powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Likes: The quietness, friendliness.
Dislikes: Occasional dust and noise during construction (minimal).

Eighty Mile Beach Caravan Park, Wallal Downs
Approximately 4 hours south of Broome, 2 hours north of Port Hedland. 10 kms off Great Northern Highway, 94km east of Pardoo, 45 kms south of Sandfire Roadhouse. This park is located by driving into a grazing property off the highway, buy it is well signed and easy to find. Access is down 10 kilometres of dirt from the main highway, in places the road is very badly corrugated. Ph: 08 9176 5941.
An attractive park with lots of mature trees. Some areas lawn, some gravel. There are three amenity blocks and, judging by the congestion when the park was only one third full, they would not be sufficient during peak periods. Showers were a good size with glass door separating the shower from the dressing area; shower flow not too good. On site there are two or three BBQs and a mini-mart where you can purchase most essentials. The beach is accessible through a gate and we had the best TV reception we have ever had. An ideal place to stay if you like to relax in the warmth and do nothing much or watch lots of TV. I'm told the fishing is good too.

Non-ensuite cabin. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($101 2A C1 per night cabin). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Likes: An outback oasis. Well stocked shop. Each cabin has it's own private BBQ right outside.
Dislikes: Only cold water is available in the non-ensuite cabins.
Added Touches: Fish cleaning table.
Local Information: Beach is spectacular and even though no one was swimming there was a sign saying there had been no incidents but they could not recommend it due to liability issues. It was a shell collector's paradise. Not a lot else to do except relax.

Road was a little corrugated but generally in reasonable condition and presented no problems. People's perceptions seem to vary a lot. We found the staff were generally friendly and polite, if perhaps not as outgoing as some. We visited in peak season and park is always full, and no casual bookings taken – first in best dressed except for those who arrange long term bookings in advance. Many people spend the whole of winter here. On most days late arrivals are directed to non-powered sites and at eight thirty next morning go back to reception and are allocated powered sites as people leave. Park located immediately behind low dune so right on beach, which is drivable in 4WDs. Neat and well maintained park, well shaded, mainly gravel sites but some well grassed, extensive camping areas, cabins available. Three amenity blocks, clean and well maintained with good hot water, but not sufficient for peak numbers and some queuing can be expected at times. Quite well stocked store for basic needs, but prices do reflect the remoteness of the place and cost of transport and storage. Bread baked on premises daily or frozen bread available, limited take away food available, mainly fish and chips or pizza – latter requires ordering early. Tyres and batteries sold, limited mechanical repairs provided, but NO fuel available. TV reception, telephones at reception, Internet machine and TV lounge, toilet dump point. For public liability purposes owners are obliged to recommend against swimming, as beach is unpatrolled, but water is so shallow that it would appear safe in most circumstances – the choice is yours. Price of $32.50 2A for powered site, $28.50 for unpowered considered a little expensive but no doubt overheads are high – 240V power available 24 hours which means a lot of diesel.
Likes: Peaceful, despite large number of sites, and shady a great place to chill out, socialise and do nothing (unless you fish or collect shells, there is really nothing to do there anyway! Suitable for short or long term stay – would stay again.
Local Information: Sandfire Roadhouse burned down in 2007 and has not yet been rebuilt. Petrol and diesel are available, but no LPG

Oasis in the desert. A welcome stop between Port Headland and Broome worth at least a couple of days but many stay for weeks at a time. Great fishing for those who know how. Long walks along the beach with beautiful sunsets and sunrises. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($29.50 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, disabled facilities. Good playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to the beach but protected from the winds. Lots of grassed areas very relaxing atmosphere.
Dislikes: Thr road in was very rough in places at times we were down to 10 kph.

Half way between Broome and Port Hedland, an overnight stop on the long haul. The owners of this park would be the rudest and most ignorant of any on our travels so far. The park is just OK. The amenities blocks look like demountables or pre-fabs, but are clean and in good repair. The roads are gravel and the sites are mostly shady with some grass. It is a very pretty spot, but no swimming in the ocean due to sharks and stingrays. There are thousands of shells lining the beach, which is just a walk over the dunes. It is usually hot in this area, so a pool would be nice, but cant imagine the owners caring too much about their guests comfort. They do bake bread daily and provide basic provisions, all at exorbitant prices, so stock up if staying a while. This is an isolated area, as everyone understands, but if you don't like people, don't run a caravan park.

Large, well organized park, grassy flat sites of generous size. A few drive-through. Power and good quality bore water close. No sullage. Established shade trees throughout. Large central grassed common used for games and entertainment. Several amenities blocks, sparkling clean with strong hot water. Several bbq areas, washing up sinks, small camp kitchen. Queue at the laundry daily. Screened potty dump. Shop. Snack bar prepares light meals and pizzas to order. Internet. Fish cleaning facilities. Mechanical workshop. Long white beach where many fish are caught and beautiful shells can be collected but no-one swims due to the popular idea that there are bronze whalers around. Many people stay several months as it is a pleasant environment with congenial atmosphere, well maintained and generally good facilities. For us, with the days quite hot, it was on the pricey side at $27.50 (2A, powered) for a beach location where allegedly it is unsafe to swim.

Manager Jo & Col Lewis. 10 km on a gravel road. One patch had a side road due to the wet. Not too bad - even though we are not off road people. It was a long weekend in WA, but the grass was cut after the people left on Monday, not before they came. SO it was very long for the to play about in. Friendly staff, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Auski Village, Wittenoom
On Great Northern Highway north of Newman. Ph: 08 9409 9271.
Generally a pleasant surprise as sites grassed, and amenities clean, and water hot and good quality. There was a camp kitchen which should have been cleaner, and which had no plugs. We used this as an overnight stop only, but it would have been perfectly suited to a longer stay if you were visiting Karijini. We used it to access Wittenoom, which is a very pretty area, though not recommended to tourists because of the perceived health risks. Expensive but in view of the grassed sites, adequate water and remoteness, acceptable. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($27 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Dirty but free gas bbq in congenial UC area, bbq area lighting, seating provided. No playground, no pool. A well maintained park.
Likes: grassed sites
Dislikes: camp kitchen.
