Head N to campground about 500m S of the Pardoo Roadhouse where drinking water is available. Ph: 08 9176 4979. No pets allowed.

The is a Shire of East Pilbara camping ground and there is a once only $10 vehicle entry fee; the ranger resides at the entry point where there is also bore water available. There was a nice beach at the end of the rocky area below the Sandy Beach campground and some of the fishermen seemed to be fishing off the heads just past this beach. The other 3 campgrounds are all in lovely positions, but the one at the Cape itself has no toilet facilities. Cootenbrand Creek Camp Area has a loo and a stunning outlook over the clear creek but rather rocky underfoot. The largest campground is in the boat launching area. The enviro toilets were all cleaned daily and well kept and there was a dump point next to the loo in Sandy Beach campground as well as at the Rangers residence. Very friendly staff. Very good value for money ($13 2A per night, unpowered). We paid $9 per night because of 2 x Senior concessions. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, mobile wireless not available. No bbqs. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: The location was fabulous - we parked at Sandy Beach overlooking the ocean. There is no time limit on your stay and several campers are regulars there for the winter just driving to Pardoo Roadhouse to get their water (with a donation to the Flying Doctors) and the occasional shop at Port Hedland
Roads: The 13k road into the reserve is part bitumen and part good dirt road. Stop at the Rangers hut to get directions and pay, reserve map on board there - the campgrounds are about another 3 - 5 kms from there.

Neds Campground, Cape Range National Park
http://www.dec.wa.gov.au/campgrounds/index.php?option=com_jomres&Itemid=2&task=viewproperty&property_uid=7
Just S of Exmouth. Neds is approximately 10 km S of the ranger station at the entrance to the NP and the first of 8 campgrounds along the coast, each with a very limited number of sites. Ph: 08 9949 1676. Park entry fee applies.

UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

The sites are allocated on a first come first serve basis at 8am each morning directly from the ranger at the entrance or 1/4 hour later from CALM in Exmouth. The wind is strong a lot of the time and Neds is the least exposed; a number of sites are nestled between the dunes immediately behind beach, some with shade from established pine trees. Sites mostly flat and a good size. Generators allowed at one end. Two sets of clean airy pit toilets. Good quality bore water available short drive further down the road. National Parks volunteers and lovely people, Gwen and Norm, have been campground hosts here, in the season, for over 10 years. Happy hour is at 5pm each day at the picnic tables in front of their van. Entrance to NP is a one-off $10, come and go as you please while staying. Site fee $13 (2A). Good value. If you are self sufficient for power this simple setting is a great base for enjoying the stunning beaches and coral reef of Ningaloo Marine Park. Downside is the wind.

Artesian water only on sites - do not hook up to your van. Potable water points around park but some only dribble water out. No car or van washing allowed. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Dislikes: Very busy park and most sites are now only sand. Showers etc are all salty artesian bore water. Some sites are pretty hard to access if park is full.
Parking: Good parking provided while booking in. You need to book most times for Coral Bay
Local Information: Beautiful beach across road, plenty of tourist things - bring money. Good bakery across road and good value. Small supermarket in complex, suggest you bring most of what you need food wise

It has 155 powered and 27 unpowered sites, mostly on grass, roads are gravel/sand, chalets, cabins, villas and Coral Bay Lodge. Accommodates large rigs, water to sites is salty HOT artesian bore, fresh water available at numerous points in the park. Pool, playground, tennis courts, BBQ area, camp kitchen, camp fires allowed, dump point across the road from supermarket (expensive) and other shops. 150m from beach. Powered sites $36 for 2A (cheaper than other park in town). Staff friendly and helpful, amenities clean and sufficient in number, cafe/restaurant on site, as well as tour booking office.

Bore water unusable. Very salty and unable to drink or use in caravan. Washing machine with fresh water $5 per load, bore water $3 per load. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($36 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (pay), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground in average condition. Clean heated pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Great location close to famous Coral Bay. Walking distance to resort hotel. Across road from shopping arcade.
Dislikes: We requested an extension of 1 extra night to our original booking and was told by the reception staff, quite rudely "that's all you can have because we have someone else coming onto that site tomorrow". However the park was only about 1/2 full and we weren't given the option of moving onto another site if we wanted to.
Parking: Site only just large enough for our 21'6" caravan and not much room left to park vehicle.
Local Information: Meals at Ningaloo Reef Resort very reasonably priced and great live entertainment on Thursday nights. Happy hour Tuesday & Friday nights from 5.30pm.

We were very disappointed with this park. Very expensive. Water was unusable, crushed coral, no grass, trees dripped salt on car and van. Dog owners crammed down back of park although barely 25% full. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints Poor value for money ($39.00 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, camp kitchen, dump point, mobile wireless not available. Quiet, claustrophobic park, too much shade, a few permanents. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families.
Likes: Not much, close to beach which is not dog friendly.

Report submitted by Ken & Bonnie (5).

This park has too many sites for the amount of water available. The main water supply is bore water which is very hot, acidic and smelly. It is not suitable for use in caravans and makes showering a very unpleasant experience, stinging the eyes and burning the skin. There is limited drinking water which must be collected in containers from a few taps scattered around the park. Because of the scarcity of water the camp is mainly fine sand which covers everything especially when the wind blows (which is often). The camp's attraction is its close proximity to the beach and Ningaloo Reef which is fantastic.

Large dusty dirty park. Very busy when we were then and packed in like sardines. Average staff friendliness. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, poor water quality. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Drinking water taps nearby in park.
Dislikes: Dust, water quality was salty, OK for showering and washing. Sites small and tight fit.
Local Information: Coral Bay is a safe beach area for kids but if snorkelling is your thing Exmouth is better. Coral Bay is a very popular spot so if you don't like crowds pick the time that you go. Take plenty of provisions with you as the shops are ridiculously expensive.
Date 09/2009. Park Rating 3: Won't go back.
Report submitted by Hansens around Oz (56).

A very average park for a high cost. Friendly management. Poor value for money. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, poor water quality, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, dump point. Poor atmosphere to park, open and roomy park. Clean UC gas bbq. Good clean pool, kid-safe pool area, seating around the pool was provided. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families.
Likes: It was quiet but would depend on the group at the time all though management are working to keep a handle on this issue Walking distance to shops and beach.
Dislikes: Dirty Dusty sites. Trees drip salt water at night which covers everything that's under them. Bad for cars and caravans. Expensive for what is provided. Amenities need upgrading. Dog levy.
Parking: Difficult when busy.
Roads: Bitumen roads but verges contain a red sticky clay.

Report submitted by Tilly (36).

Polite reception, given a map and directed to our site. A very large park, but bookings essential in peak winter season. Rather unkempt, with deep sand on roads and very dusty when wind blows. Powered and unpowered sites are mixed in together, some of them in a separate area alongside cabins, chalets and lodges. Most of park well shaded but some areas have absolutely none. There are also a couple of private campgrounds within the boundaries, and a number of permanents at the rear of the park. Sites are level, mostly grass and sand, with some annexe pads, and are of reasonable size. Taps at sites have bore water at up to 60 and the water is corrosive, so you are advised NOT to connect your hose to it. However it is quite OK for showering, dishwashing etc but salt content not good for laundering. Fresh drinking water is available at various points and was found to be quite potable. There are five amenities blocks, some of which are modern and others requiring renovation. Cubicles are small, no mops or hand dryers provided, but are reasonably clean despite number of people using them; they appear adequate in numbers to handle peak crowds. Other amenities include five barbecue areas, two very basic children's playgrounds, small pool area, tour kiosk, licensed restaurant with takeaways, volleyball and tennis courts. Reasonably well lit at night. Good mobile phone signal. No dump point, have to drive to rubbish tip 1km away. Supermarket located in shopping centre opposite, together with a terrific bakery. Five minute walk to calm waters of Bills Bay, about fifteen mins walk to snorkelling area. Price of $33 2A for powered site reflects remoteness and popularity of Coral Bay, but even with seventh night free is not good value for conditions.
Likes: Location.
Dislikes: Often noisy at night, even after ten o'clock. Very crowded. Constantly walking in sand wherever you go. No dump point. Suitable for short and long stays. Would stay again of necessary, but Peoples Park up the road is better although possibly more expensive.

Robinson St. Last caravan park before hotel. Entrance behind petrol station. There are no seasonal rates - same prices all year. Ph: 08 9942 5933. No pets allowed.

We stayed in the pioneer section at $38 a day + $18 for extra person. Down the front of the park is $44 and $48 a day 2A. Note - always peak period rates apply Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($56 3A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, poor water quality. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, secure entry, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2). Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: The park has fresh water showers, this appears to be the claim to fame as there is not much else they have on site. Beautiful beach across the road with a reef to snorkel on.
Dislikes: Only three fresh water taps in whole park and water has to be carried in containers back to your van. There were a lot of children in the park and people seem to be up at 06:00 am having chats. We have stayed down the front and it is a lot quieter down there. You must book at this park as it is very busy
Parking: Parking outside the gate was adequete on an uneven gravel road.
Added Touches: No added extras here for your money
Local Information: Ningaloo reef, fishing charter $250 a day, Quad bikes $95 two hours, swimming with manta rays and swimming with whale sharks, around $350 each I think
Roads: Good roads to and from Perth

Management/ground staff are certainly obsessed with keeping their grass green. As soon as a vehicle or caravan move off a site someone is there with a sprinkler. I would strongly advise anyone wishing to visit Coral Bay to book in advance as this and the park next door were full even though it was mid September. There are 3 x freshwater tanks around the park. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($38 2A per night, powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, poor water quality, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, a few permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Likes: Close proximity to beach.
Dislikes: Having to pay in advance for our 3 night stay. A deposit would have sufficed. I don't believe they can be worried about losing money if people don't turn up as numerous people were turned away whilst we were there. The tap water is bore so advised not to connect to the caravan. Showers in need of refurbishment - shower heads face outwards and flood the dry change area. No shower curtains.
Local Information: Nice bakery just up the road. Reasonable prices.

Nice grassy park right across the road from the beach. Booked 2 weeks ago and had to pay both nights' accommodation, arrived and we were put right up the back of the park near the water plant pump which goes 24/7 and a fair distance from the amenities block which is situated on one side of the park right up the front. Unfriendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($38 2A per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Likes: Large sites, lots of grass which is watered all the time,
Dislikes: Boar water only on site, fresh water to be collected, long walk to amenities block, toilets very narrow. We were put right up the back near the pump which goes continually - staff should have advised us of this before we entered the park. Had to pay 2 nights' accommodation as deposit.

There are two sections, the front section (40 sites) you have to book 2 years in advance to get a spot there unless there is a cancellation; the back section (approx 80 sites) you still need to book well in advance for peak season. Although it states that they have TV reception were not able to get any even though the tower was right behind us, we weren't the only ones having trouble. You cannot connect to water as they are all bore water, but there are various taps around the park with fresh drinking water. If staying for a while take some containers. Overall we enjoyed our stay. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($38 2A per night, powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, poor water quality, adequate sullage close by. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Its location right across the road from the water and did not have to move the car everything is in walking distance
Dislikes: Internet was not consistent mostly in the evenings. Was not happy about paying the whole tariff a month before arriving. Cost a bit excessive considering you don't have full facilities. But you are paying for the location
Parking: Office beyond boom gate, park ff to the side
Added Touches: Karaoke one night we were here, only in peak times.
Local Information: Swimming, snorkelling, viewing the coral, tours, boat ramp, fishing. Hotel, cafe, supermarket (although very expensive). Bakery up the road they make all their own so prices are normal there.

One of the best locations we have ever stayed. Well run park with very friendly and helpful staff. For anyone considering staying, there is no fresh water taps to hook up to - fresh water is available from tap outside amenities - need either a very long hose or suitable water container to cart water and fill van tanks. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($311 2A 2C per week). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate sullage close by. This is a transit park and has a maximum of 3 nights stay. There are 17 sites. Access was good and sites level. Caravaners cannot connect water or sullage although there is provision to fill van tanks with good drinking water at no cost. Sites are powered. There are three washing machines at a cost of $3.00 per load; there is no drier. There is some noise at night from nearby iron ore loading operations but it did not disturb us. The park provides a great view of the islands, bay and the ship loading facilities. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($24.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. You cannot book a site, but if powered sites unavailable there is a large no powered area. This is $30 per night and also an area for generators. The next morning powered sites are then allocated. A good system that works. The park is powered by generators but no noise from them. They do switch over generators a couple of times a day but the power is only out of a minute or two. There were a lot more trees when we last stayed here but then the cyclone came. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($35.00 2A per night, powered). An attractive park with lots of mature trees. Some areas lawn, some gravel. There are three amenity blocks and, judging by the congestion when the park was only one third full, they would not be sufficient during peak periods. Showers were a good size with glass door separating the shower from the dressing area; shower flow not too good. On site there are two or three BBQs and a mini-mart where you can purchase most essentials. The beach is accessible through a gate and we had the best TV reception we have ever had. An ideal place to stay if you like to relax in the warmth and do nothing much or watch lots of TV. I'm told the fishing is good too.

Road was a little corrugated but generally in reasonable condition and presented no problems. People's perceptions seem to vary a lot. We found the staff were generally friendly and polite, if perhaps not as outgoing as some. We visited in peak season and park is always full, and no casual bookings taken - first in best dressed except for those who arrange long term bookings in advance. Many people spend the whole of winter here. On most days late arrivals are directed to non-powered sites and at eight thirty next morning go back to reception and are allocated powered sites as people leave. Park located immediately behind low dune so right on beach, which is drivable in 4WDs. Neat and well maintained park, well shaded, mainly gravel sites but some well grassed, extensive camping areas, cabins available. Three amenity blocks, clean and well maintained with good hot water, but not sufficient for peak numbers and some queuing can be expected at times. Quite well stocked store for basic needs, but prices do reflect the remoteness of the place and cost of transport and storage. Bread baked on premises daily or frozen bread available, limited take away food available, mainly fish and chips or pizza - latter requires ordering early. Tyres and batteries sold, limited mechanical repairs provided, but NO fuel available. TV reception, telephones at reception, Internet machine and TV lounge, toilet dump point. For public liability purposes owners are obliged to recommend against swimming, as beach is unpatrolled, but water is so shallow that it would appear safe in most circumstances - the choice is yours. Price of $32.50 2A for powered site, $28.50 for unpowered considered a little expensive but no doubt overheads are high - 240V power available 24 hours which means a lot of diesel.
Likes: Peaceful, despite large number of sites, and shady a great place to chill out, socialise and do nothing (unless you fish or collect shells, there is really nothing to do there anyway! Suitable for short or long term stay - would stay again.
Local Information: Sandfire Roadhouse burned down in 2007 and has not yet been rebuilt. Petrol and diesel are available, but no LPG

Under New Management. This park is an Aspen/BIG4 park with new managers arriving 6 weeks ago. Also, just before Christmas they had a cyclone pay the area a visit so they have had to remove a lot of taller trees that would have normally provided shade, however there is still enough shade to escape the heat. Our family was also amazed at the excellent camp kitchen, with oven. It would have to be the best camp kitchen I have seen. We were able to cook up food to freeze for the rest of our journey. The kitchen area also has a very communal and welcoming 'feel', people exchanging stories and food. There is also a fair bit of re-development happening around the park, the amenities need it, but they are clean and have good hot water pressure. This is the most expensive park we have stayed in, I would hate to see the price in 'peak' times. Not sure it was worth the money but we have enjoyed our stay and we were given an excellent site right next to the camp kitchen which wasn't too noisy. Night lighting maybe poor because of cyclone, not sure. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($75 2A C3 per night, powered, off-peak season). We paid $67.50 because of BIG4 member. We had great difficulty finding a site big enough for our 25ft+ van. We were offered 7 sites in all and after my 3rd visit to the office we were given a large site, which incidentally I requested when we realised we were going to have a problem. Exmouth is very popular with 'grey nomads' from the south. There are freshwater 7 tanks throughout the park. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($35 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). We paid $30 because of Pay for 6 nights get 7th free. Large park, very crowded during peak season, bookings essential. Well positioned for Ningaloo Reef and beaches. Friendly reception, given map to site, warned re saline water from bores and that fresh water available from tanks in park. Variety of accommodation including chalets and cabins, powered and unpowered sites and tent areas. Powered sites were generally roomy and well shaded, many had concrete annexe pads. Water and sullage to sites, water OK for washing but not for drinking. Apart from pads, sites were gritty sand, as were roads although mostly kerbed and guttered. Three amenity blocks through park, moderately clean but as there were no outside showers they soon got very sandy. Cubicles small, no mop provided so shower floors constantly wet and grubby. No soap or hand drying provided. Amenities were generally insufficient for the numbers in the park, especially at peak times of day, and often had to wait for a toilet to be available. Shop on site with reasonable range of groceries and fishing tackle. Unleaded and diesel available at lower price than in Exmouth. Other amenities included gas barbecues (coin), very basic camp kitchens, two swimming pools, cafe during high season. Toilet dump site located inside one of the laundries and only available between 7pm and 7am. Public phone on site, but no mobile phone signal as park located in a blind spot. A short drive up to lighthouse gave a signal, as well as good whale watching. 100 meters walk to shore of Lighthouse Bay, nice beach walk but swimming not advisable because of rocks and currents - better beaches a short drive away. Despite crowding and shortcomings park had a reasonable ambience and would stay again. Cost $33 2A for 2 adults considered in line with other parks; seventh night is free. Suitable for short or longer stay.

Lefroy Street, 400m S of PO. The entry to the park is on the main road into Exmouth and the driveway is on the left as you come into town, directly opposite the Exmouth Tourist Information Centre. It is not well signposted and easy to miss. Note - park entry is on Murat Street (main road into town), not Lefroy St. Ph: 08 9949 2377 or 1800 652 665. Dogs on leash, separate section for pets.

Cheapest of the two parks in town, $33 unpowered, $44 powered (rip off in my view - $25 off peak), dogs allowed in certain area. Over 400 sites powered and unpowered, many permanent holiday sites, chalets, BBQ areas only provided in chalet areas. Accommodates large rigs, swimming pool, restaurant on site, camp kitchens, rec room with minimal equipment, small playground, dump point, wash bay, backpackers lodge, amenities old but fairly clean (could be better). 5 minutes walk from town, swipe card entry, no fences to park open on all sides.

This park dropped out of the Top Tourist program 2 weeks prior to our stay but didn't tell us when we booked. Big dusty park, little shade. Expensive washing machines ($5). Ordinary amenities. Had to wait while staff finished doing paperwork rather than checking us in. Seats at pool were vinyl but quite ripped and messy. Unfriendly staff. Poor value for money ($49 2A 2C per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, secure entry. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families.
Likes: Nice pool which was well shaded. Good Italian restaurant adjacent to park.
Dislikes: Didn't tell us were no longer Top Tourist. Dusty. Little shade. Staff attitude. Expensive washing machines. No soap in toilets.
Parking: Stay on left lane.
Local Information: Whaleshark tour was brilliant - we did it with 3 Islands who were very professional. Good seafood outlet (look for the giant prawn) out of town. Good fruit & veg at the IGA. There really are emus walking through town.

We found this park okay to stay at; but make sure you ask for a suitable cement slab. Many sites do not have slabs at all. If checking out early morning before office opens, check in with them the evening before to obtain a refund on your key deposit. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($25.20 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Suitable for few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Good facilities and pool.
Dislikes: We asked for a cement slab for a 24ft van & were given a slab that was far too small about 6ft long.
Parking: Park at entrance near office.
Local Information: Very sparse country side; NP is very sparse. Look for big red prawn coming into Exmouth on highway for cheap seafood.

If you can, would avoid this park during school holidays as it gets very busy and everyone is packed in like sardines and it gets very noisy. Be careful of ants, we got invaded by tiny ants that got in everything even our electrical wiring and sealed bags. We weren't the only ones to get invaded. Average staff friendliness. Reasonable value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, very few concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Clean pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Proximity to town and 15 minute walk to doggie beach. Nice Italian restaurant on site. The unisex bathroom.
Dislikes: We were there for two weeks, the second during school holidays. The first week was great, quiet, clean amenities etc. The second week bedlam when the families arrived, vans, camper vans and tents all shoved in together with no space to move. The amenities struggled to cope and weren't cleaned often enough. There is a separate dog area at the back of the park which has a unisex bathroom. They got very dirty during the school holiday period.

Large park, with a fair number of permanents scattered throughout. Quite a few amenities blocks, which varied in design and quality. We had an annex slab, but it appeared that we were in the minority. Laundry in each amenities block had different number of washing machines, while each took $3 some used 3 x $1 and some 1 x $1 and 1 x $2. Park has onsite Italian restaurant which we didn't try. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($31.5 2A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Cleaners turned up at our amenities block before 8am, so if you slept in somebody had a long trek to the next nearest block for a shower.
Parking: Separate lane for check-in provided plenty of parking.
Local Information: Walks in Cape Range National Park, although few, are all worthwhile. Great curry at pub next door to park (Grace's Tavern).

Yardie Creek Homestead Caravan Park, Exmouth
Click here for park details on My Park List
2 kms from Cape Range National Park and 32 kms from Exmouth. Ph: 08 9949 1389. Pets allowed, on leash at all times, bond applies.

Big area to pull in and park at while you book in at reception however it took me lots of phone calls to get an answer from the caravan park when trying to book. When I did get through the lady said she wasn't there from noon until 2pm and to pick a site and pay when the reception was re-opened. It does appear that the reception is often closed throughout the day. We weren't aware that you could book a campsite in 4 of the 8 campgrounds in Cape Range National Park on the internet until it was full on our required dates otherwise we would have done that. One day I needed to use the amenities while the man was cleaning them and when asked he said to use the one 'behind the pool'. Well I spent a good 10 minutes looking for it and as the reception was closed I asked a patron if he knew where they were and he said 'no' but pointed out a man attached to the management chatting to another man in the park. When I asked him he told me the directions and I made a comment about them being hard to find and he told me that I couldn't expect amenity blocks every 20m or so. I eventually found the loo - past the pool, past the onsite cafe, round the back of it and into an area that looked like staff buildings. No signs until you rounded the very last corner. Power was limited to lights, small microwave and fridge - own washing machine use not allowed. Friendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($30 2A, powered, peak season). Amenities are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites. Basic laundry. Peaceful, open & roomy park. Excellent playground in good condition. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Drinking water was available at the end of our lane.
Dislikes: The tap was too far for our hose, so we didn't bother hooking up to water. Our site had the remains of a very old annex slab; a lot of the sites were red dirt.
Local Information: Very handy to the National Park if you want to get a site in one of the 'non-booking' campgrounds you need to line up for the 8am opening. We were told by van park we'd need to be there by 5.30am or so to get one so we didn't bother however when we visited the parks Visitor Centre (20k from the van park) the next day there were still some sites available. Cape Range National Park is beautiful and well worth time swimming in some of the bays and the cruise up Yardie Creek is excellent value.
Roads: Bitumen road to property then single lane bitumen to car park at van park

Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($170.00 2A per week, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, camp kitchen, kiosk, wireless internet is available. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: We drove into this park 5 years ago to have a look and the immediate reaction was, no, we would not stay here. However 5 years down the track there are new managers which we understand have now been there for 3 years. They have put a lot of work and effort into the park and now it is really lovely. There is only limited power, e.g. can't use microwave oven, anything that has an element. For anyone who has stayed at Barn Hill, this park is virtually the same as far as power is concerned. Everyone gets by cooking on gas, connected water is for bore water but there are quite a number of "drinking water" taps you can go to, to fill up your water tank. Amenities look like they have had new wall and floor tiles over the past 5 years.
Dislikes: There is no phone or internet coverage. There is 2 public phones outside the office which can be used.
Parking: Parking just outside the office
Added Touches: Fish cleaning table, two course roast on a Sunday night in season. We were fortunate when we arrived there was a roast night which was absolutely beautiful but the next Sunday night it was cancelled because of lack of numbers. The season was winding down.
Local Information: Ningaloo Reef, seeing the whales frolicking in the distance, glass bottom boat tour which was great. The guy who runs it is great, so this is highly recommended.
Roads: Good road conditions.

Albert Tognolini Rest Area, Juna Downs
Clearly signed, off the Great Northern Highway. Turn east about 15k S of the Auski Roadhouse (heading S at the end of the double lanes climbing through the Munjina Pass) and follow bitumen road to top of hill; the fork to the left is to the day use area, take the right hand dirt road. There are many sites along this road that runs along the top of the ridge. Pets allowed.

This is a free rest area along a ridge with stunning views overlooking the Munina Gorge. No loos, water or shelters but plenty of sites either shady or non-shady and room to park as a group if you are travelling together. The day use area has a lookout shelter and a couple of bins but there are none in the rest area.

This is a very well run national park camping ground; there were four camp hosts that you checked in with before entering the campground and they allocate campsite according to your requirements; we stayed in the Cockatoo Loop which is a generator friendly area. Each loop has 10 or 12 sites well spaced with a enviro toilet every 4 campsites or so - these toilets are the cleanest and least smelling we have found in a national park and they are cleaned daily by the volunteers who also clean the several BBQs in the centre of each campgrounds big loop road. Untreated bore water is available just off the road to the Visitors Centre; and the showers in the centre were not working during our visit. We paid $10 (concession) for 2 adults per night for our roomy site. It is an easy 500m walk to Fortescue Falls from the entry hut; the walk along the bottom of Dales Gorge to Circular Pool is just beautiful as is the one to Fern Pool. The road to everything past the visitors centre is fairly corrugated and vans considering using the private resort about 30k past the visitors centre should have sturdy tyres etc.
Local Information: You can pay at the visitors centre (or to the Camp Hosts at Dales during peak season).
Roads: Bitumen road all the way to Dales Campground and the Visitors Centre.

Large camping area made up of 7 loops. The office was run by very friendly Senior volunteers during our visit. The sites are large and well spaced out. 2-3 long drop toilets and BBQ's in each loop. No water or electricity. Generators allowed. Nearest water supply is near the Visitor Centre (11kms). There are also showers at the Visitor Centre but they were 'out of order' during our visit. Pleasant walk to the Dales Gorge. 45kms to Weano Gorge. Beautiful scenery. Reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night, powered, peak season). We paid $10 because of Concession discount.

Met at campground by volunteer hosts, friendly and obliging, allocated a site and layout explained. Sites are in bushland around several loop roads, one of which allows generators. Sites are large, gravel surfaced and well separated from each other - some of them give the feeling of complete solitude. No power or water, but several very clean and well maintained composting toilets around each loop. Showers and telephone (out of order at time) available at Visitor Centre 10 kms away, water at overflow area. No open fires, gas only. Several free gas barbecues located on each loop. Ten to twenty mins walk to Dales Gorge depending on where you are in the campground. Run by the National Park and one of the best campgrounds we have been in. Thoroughly recommended for short or longer stay as long as you are self sufficient, as it's a long way to nearest town (Tom Price, over 100 kms). $6 pp per night ($4.50 for pensioners and seniors) very reasonable.

Either east from Tom Price along Karijini Drive or turn west off Great Northern Hwy onto Karijini drive 100 kms north of Newman. Dales campground is in Karijini National Park and is located right next to Dales Gorge. The campsite are basic with only a shared long drop toilet between three or four sites there is no power or water. The sites are divided into areas called loops with one area set aside for campers with generators. You have to take your own rubbish out as there are no bins or rubbish collection. The sites are spaced about 100 m apart and there is some shared BBQ facilities for each loop. The road in is tar sealed all the way in except for the last km. The campground is managed by volunteers called camp hosts. Karijini has a number of gorges with permanent water pools and water falls with some accessible by gravel road suitable for two wheel drive cars. Park entry fee applies. Off Weano Road, Karijini National Park. Turnoff is 29 km along Bunjima Drive from the Bunjima Drive & Karijini Drive intersection at the western end of the park closest to Tom Price. Ph: 08 9425 5591. No pets allowed.

We were there at off-season and there were a number of empty camp site sites but queues morning and night to use the relatively few showers and toilets. There are just too few toilets and showers for campers. I cannot comment on the eco tents and maybe they are better looked after. Site advertises 'hot showers' but be aware that there are no boosters for the solar heaters. That means if it is an overcast, cold day, chances are your shower will also be cold. Take you own toilet paper supplies as the toilet paper was not restocked regularly and it run out every day. While there are water facilities at the resort, you may not like the taste so a Britta filter jug might help you out. It's a great adventure, but next time we might stay in the Dales Campground area and take our own camp shower and porta pot. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water. Mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, poor water quality. No rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to Joffre Gorge, Generators off at 8pm
Dislikes: Insufficient facilities, not cleaned regularly, run out of toilet paper every day
Added Touches: Free BBQs
Local Information: The gorges at Karijini National Park are beautiful and it is certainly worth the trip. The gravel road within the park are very badly corrugated and are best handled at about 70kph as this speed was advised by a Ranger and it helps to stop everything shaking to bits. Do not expect your mobile phone to work at Karijini however there is a public phone that you can use- you need to buy a phone card from the shop to use it. There is no fuel sales and the closest fuel is at Tom Price 70kms away.
Roads: Very Poor, very badly corrugated

Reasonable for the price - camp sites could be improved though, very hard when tenting. When we arrived, were told to go into a site number, however someone else was there. When we went back, they put us next door, but never came over to see what was happening with the other guests. We ended up looking like idiots. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($30 2A per night, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded. Poor laundry, no rec room, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. UC gas bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: We loved the Astronomy Tour run in the park. It was fantastic. Also the scenery is of course amazing. We were only there overnight so didn't have a lot of time but walked into Fortescue Falls, which was fantastic
Dislikes: The sites were so hard for us to put the tent pegs in. The retreat is run by backpackers, who have limited knowledge of the park, and don't seem that interested. The restaurant is expensive, and quite poor - mainly bbq yourself, it seemed a lot nicer on the menu than it actually was. They give you cooking guides, which are completely useless. They said sausages take 3 mins - don't know what world they live in. Same with the chicken. Salads were poor, the coleslaw looked like it had been there for days, so we avoided that one.
Added Touches: Astronomy night was great - but a bit steep at $25 per person - ok for us, but for a family, would get pricey very quickly
Local Information: Park itself is fantastic. See above for restaurant information
Roads: Road was in decent condition - all dirt, but lots of corrugations. Found it to be loose in places, so we put our vehicle into 4 wheel drive - we saw many 2 wheel drive cars (vans, ford station wagons)taking it very slowly on the side - they didn't look like they were having a good time

Campground is associated with the tent village eco-lodge. Sites are barely improved red dirt (which appears almost oily in its ability to stick to anything it touches), in several loops. Each loop has a barbecue area, bathroom with toilet/basin/shower, separate toilet cubicle with basin and separate shower cubicle (phone box sized) with basin. All were dirty, partly because the red dust gets into everything, but also because they didn't appear to get cleaned. Sites at the far end of the loop were a long way from the facilities. Sites don't have power or water, and you have to take out all rubbish as there are no bins. We chose this over Dales because they have showers and flush toilets, but given the state of these facilities it was an expensive mistake. The campers can use the facilities at the eco-lodge, but these don't amount to much more than a bar and restaurant. Most of the restaurant meals were of the bbq-yourself variety, which rather defeats the purpose of a night out. You must bring in all food and water, as there is nothing for sale at the eco-lodge, or anywhere else in the NP. The nearest shop/fuel is at Tom Price, about 80km from the eco-lodge. Poor value for money ($25 2A per night, unpowered). Dirty UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: Toilets at restaurant were no different from the ones at the camp ground, with no soap provided even though most meals were cook-yourself - surely against some health regulation. Price was a rip-off for the basic camp ground provided.
Local Information: Karajini National Park is certainly worth a few days' visit - spectacular gorges and terrific walking.
Roads: 30km unsealed road into eco-lodge.

We paid for a standard eco tent but were upgraded free of charge to a deluxe eco tent with an ensuite due to a booking error. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($157 2A C1 per night Eco Tent). Eco Tent was clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. No rec room, kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Atmosphere and location was spectacular and unbeatable.
Dislikes: Having to take all of your rubbish out with you when you left. Due to very limited facilities and resources, the description of the dinner meals at the restaurant sounded a lot more sophisticated than they were in reality.
Local Information: Karijini National Park - the gorge walks were phenomenal. Our 3yo could tackle most of the Class 4 walks with no issues at all. We went to Dales, Hancock, Joffre, Kalamina, Knox, Oxer and Weano Gorges. Unfortunately did not get to Hamersley Gorge as it was a 180km round trip on predominantly dirt roads. Don't miss Handrail Pool, the Spider Walk and Kermit's Pool if you are at all able. Despite what the information boards indicate, in the dry season these can all be done without getting wet if you do some rock climbing.
Roads: Dirt roads everywhere within the NP except leading to the Visitors Centre from Karijini Dr and out to Dales Gorge. The corrugations were quite bad in some parts and they had only graded the road a month ago. We negotiated it in a low clearance 2WD with very minimal hassles.

Lot 1060 Moolingunn Rd. Turn left from main road 3 km N of the town at the industrial estate. Ph: 08 9185 1012 A/H: 0419 866 195. Dogs on leash.

A two star park with a five star price ($35 per night 2A) in a one star location (an industrial estate). Easy to find, about 2kms along the main entry road to Karratha, turn right. It's well sign posted. A basic park with only one, fairly large, amenity block, some dirty barbecues and a mini-mart and liquor store. At the time of our stay, virtually the whole park was occupied by workers and resembled a shanty town with all kinds of home-made awnings, washing lines strung between trees or vans, etc. Next to our site was a pile of six or seven old tyres, covered with bird droppings, which didn't appear to belong to anyone. A few people made their vans tidy and attractive but most did not. There are lots of trees and lots of Corellas inhabiting them with the resultant mess on cars, vans and awnings. The toilets and showers were clean but the shower cubicles were very small and there was no bench or shelf, just two or three hooks on the door. Anything left on, or near, the floor, got wet. Showers were hot and strong. The only problem with the cleaning is that the men's was closed for cleaning between 8am and 9am. Not a good time for most travellers! Staff were friendly and helpful. A surprisingly quiet park through the day and in the evening, even at weekends. The only time there was any noise was from 4.30am when there would be radios going, car doors banging as people went to work plus, somewhere on the industrial estate, some machinery with a reversing beeper would start work.

Unofficial tracks lead off the highway just beside the bridge. Local authorities are attempting unsuccessfully to keep these closed and prevent camping on the riverbank itself in order to improve picnic ground. Correct access road is about 600m on the Karratha side of bridge, winds up and down for about 1km through grazing land. Site itself is exposed, even surface but quite sloping in places. This is probably the best caravan park in the Pilbara. Spacious, friendly and helpful staff. Well maintained and good facilities. A bit expensive but it's not too bad. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($39.60 with the Aspen 10% discount, otherwise $44, 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Likes: Very helpful staff - they attend and assist all new arrivals when reversing into sites. Lots of staff doing maintenance - and it showed. Well shaded sites and very spacious sites. Good parking.
Dislikes: Corellas - the extended dry season has the birds flocking into Karratha in their thousands and they are noisy as they come in (nothing the park can do though).

This is a well run park with good amenities; however, there are lots of rules. This is the only park in Australia we have come across (2 trips around Aussie and one up the centre) where they have a rule prohibiting the use of portable washing machines! We could not get a reason for this rule and could not understand it, as there is no water saving involved. We suspected it was to ensure we paid the $4.00/load fee at their laundry. We noticed the many permanents ignored the rule. Friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($39.60 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Clean UC gas bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Well laid out with all amenities available. This is a good park for a long stay.
Dislikes: Too many rules but did not let this discourage us, as most did not affect us. There were a lot of "don'ts". No fish cleaning facilities.
Parking: Park at entrance near office.
Local Information: Karratha is a large mining community and there are quite a few permanents in the park; this is not a problem and most are friendly towards visitors. The CBD has large shopping centre and all facilities are available. Drive to Dampier, Port Samson and Cossack on bitumen roads with some dirt tracks for relatively short distances to beaches and rock art (near Dampier).
Roads: Good bitumen roads around town and to local boat ramp.

Large park, always full in peak periods, booking essential. Staff were friendly and helpful and put us on site. Almost all sites were powered, some with ensuite. Each site was level and had full concrete van and annexe pads, with cars parked in the wide sealed roads. Good water, power and sullage to all sites. One way roads, all sealed, cable security barrier. Two amenities blocks, clean and well maintained, adequate for numbers. Hot water sometimes slow in coming through, but good flow when it arrives. Shower and toilet cubicles very small, no curtains so wet floors inevitable. Mop supplied. Two laundries, $4 for washing machines. Other facilities include clean BBQ area (free), pool, TV room, playground, dump point, car wash ($5). Shop has now closed permanently. Internet access advertised but at time of visit was not available, "being upgraded". Public telephone at reception area. Powered sites are scattered through park so not all are close to pool or office as a previous report stated. Reasonably well lit at night. Cost of $42 2A for powered site before discount considered excessive but in line with high charges made by Big4 parks and Aspen in particular. Manager's name is Steve, Chris & Alasdair. This really is an excellent spot for easy overnight camping. All sites are grassed and drive thru, so you can leave your rig connected up. Water pressure is excellent and there is plenty of hot water. Showers are moulded fibreglass units, and very clean. Fresh shower curtains are replaced daily. There are 12 drive thru grassed, powered sites with external TV antenna available at power box. Ask for lead at roadhouse if required. There are 4 x showers/toilets. There are toilets for fuel customers thru the shop. Under new management since Nov '08. You can dine and view the sunset in the small restaurant, which seats 26 people. Located about halfway between Newman & Port Hedland, an easy 60km drive from the Karinjini main entrance and only 40km from the town of Wittenoom, it's a good place to stay and explore from. Facilities are old but slated for refurbishment, plenty of hot water but not a lot of room to move. The roadhouse had meals on offer all day and while in keeping with the general prices up that way, they are tasty and filling. The park is at the rear of the complex and off the main highway, major noise disruptions come from the workers accommodated on site and general road noise isn't an issue. Located 195km from Newman and 261km from Port Hedland this is a convenient overnight location for those travelling the Great Northern Highway. The roadhouse is located a few kilometres north from the spectacular Munjina Gorge through which the Highway passes. Fee $35.00 for 2A seemed excessive compared to similar facilities elsewhere. Powered sites are located about 200m behind the roadhouse which means that exposure to traffic noise from the highway is minimised. The powered sites comprise two parallel areas of level and well-maintained grass strips with parking spaces delineated by shady native trees. Both strips are wide enough for caravans to remain hooked up. Power, water and drainage are available and one toilet block at the far end of the sites serves all campers, both tourists and longer term workers living in industrial trailers. The power plant is just behind the toilets and noise at that end of the park seemed excessive. At the time of our visit there were about 20 caravans set up by 4:00pm in the afternoon and, together with a few workers trailers, this pretty much filled up the available grassed spaces. Reception at the roadhouse was not very enthusiastic, but if you asked a question you got an answer. You were shown a map of how to drive to the powered sites and then it was up to you to find a spot and park. The roadhouse offers a typical roadhouse menu - not very imaginative and rather expensive. We didn't try it. There is no mobile phone coverage in the area but wireless internet is available from the roadhouse at a minimum charge of $15.00 - also seems excessive. Four analogue TV channels can be accessed (WIN, AB1C, 7 and SBS1) if you have a good aerial, but the picture will probably be grainy at the best. The source of the signals is from the south-west so it is likely that these are from the Tom Price transmitters which would be about 60km away as the eagle flies. Toilet facilities are adequate with 8 each hand-basins, toilets and shower cubicles in the men's. Plenty of hot water. The shower part of the cubicles is roomy but the drying section outside the curtain is very tight and you have to step back into the shower area to get out because the doors open inwards. Water pools in the drying areas. The overall impression for the toilet block is that it is tatty and needed maintenance - but it does the job. In all, this is an okay spot to spend an overnight.

This is quite a nice park, the sites are all drive thru, there isn't a lot of them, but gravel and easy to get into and fits the van. The staff at the roadhouse are helpful. I wanted to watch Sea Patrol and they made a note and changed the channel for me when I arrived, was very appreciated of it. The bathroom wasn't too bad, needed a key to access it. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($25 1A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Mobile wireless not available. No permanents.

A surprisingly spacious donga with a tiny bar fridge but no TV or water. Average staff friendliness. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($90 2A C1 per night cabin). Amenity cleanliness was average, condition is poor. Mostly level sites. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. No bbqs, no playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Amenities block looked quite new and was nice and clean.
Dislikes: Entire amenities block is closed for cleaning every day between 9:00-10:30am - how ridiculous!

Cash only, no credit cards accepted, choose your own site, we tried to book ahead - "No need to book, plenty of sites". This is a tired park, sandy sites - very little grass, number of water saving notices around park. We stayed here because of adverse park report comments on the other park in town, externally the other park is better laid out, appears in better condition and is right on the beach. Onslow is about to become a large mining town. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night, powered because of Nil discount. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen. Quiet, open & roomy park, too many permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Clean pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Location, quiet area of town, near jetty, we used this park as a base to explore Old Onslow ruins,
Dislikes: Too many permanents - particularly at rear of park, tired facilities - very busy of a morning, inadequate amenities for number of residents. The pool was closed - chemical imbalance. Onsite Commercial Laundry - next to amenities - noisy. Park is tired in tourist site area, needs maintenance, door knob almost falling off male amenities front door, took 10 turns of Phillips head driver to fix.
Parking: Long driveway into park from main road to office, plenty of space for parking while booking, we were 5th in line.
Local Information: Old Onslow ruins, Onslow Visitors Centre, Memorial boardwalk, Ashburton River, Three mile pool, termite mounds.
Roads: Onslow Road, from North West Coastal Highway - good condition, be aware of numerous mining vehicles closer to Onslow.

Manager's name is Kevin Sweetman. This park is situated on the edge of town - close to Beadon Creek and the jetty. Lots of 'workers' cabins, and more are being built, but they are away from the tourist sites. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very pet friendly park. Coming to this park after the reception we received at the other Onslow park was like a 'breath of fresh air'. The staff are very friendly (even give you a lovely little gift). If you are travelling with pets, they only ask that you keep them on a leash & pick up their business. Their sites are spacious with room for van / annex & car. They could do with added amenity blocks as if you are at the front of the park, it's a bit of a journey to the toilet / showers. There are no slabs for annex, but the ground is compressed with shadecloth stretched right across (very good). Has a lovely pool / undercover bbq area. Close to fishing & beach walking. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($30 2A per night, powered). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is shaded. Suitable for month or longer, well maintained park.
Likes: The friendliness of the staff & atmosphere around the park in general. Very nice stay so far.
Dislikes: Water pressure is a bit slow & it can get a little dusty at times, but not that bad.
Parking: No - office is straight out front, before you even drive into the park.
Added Touches: There is a boat ramp just around the corner & fish cleaning facilities also. There is also plenty of room for fishing at jetty & wharf.
Local Information: Great beach walks, fishing. Nice pub meals. Well equipped store. Very helpful / friendly locals. Not touristy which we love.
Roads: most roads in & around the town are very good.

Ocean View Caravan Park, Onslow

Turn off the North West Coastal Hwy 210 kms S of Dampier or 40 kms N of Nanutarra Roadhouse, then 82 kms to Onslow. Second Avenue, 400m N of PO. The caravan park is located on the beach just past the centre of town, opposite the police station. Although the address is Second Avenue, entry is in First Ave. Ph: 08 9184 6053. Dogs on leash. Must be with you at all times & must take pet outside to do it's business.

Manager's name is Peter Adams. Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($35 2A per night, powered). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, very few sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, disabled facilities, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade Dirty bbq. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: We didn't end up staying here after a look around, checking out our site, which would have been almost impossible to back into. Pet rules were never explained to me when making a booking, however, the woman at reception came up to me just as we were about to try & park up & spoke to me in a very abrupt manner, telling me I must take my dog outside the park for its business (sometimes dogs don't quite make it to the outside as I explained, but I always carry bags). The reply to that was 'nope' outside always even if you have to carry it. We were told we could not leave our dog even inside our own van - must always be with us. I explained that we wanted to go to the local pub for a meal at times. Told abruptly again - take your dog with you. We were also told on the day that we had to pay our 3 weeks stay up front - no refunds. That was it for us. We demanded our money back. It was reluctantly paid to us less $35 deposit & we backed out & headed to the other park.
Added Touches: None of the above are listed in the office or were told to us.
Local Information: Onslow is a quiet little town, but we love it. This is our 2nd visit here. The fishing is very good off the jetty & beach. Great walks. Meals at the local pub are a little on the expensive side, but very nice. Locals are extremely friendly & helpful.
Roads: Road conditions in & surrounding area are in very good condition most of the time

Manager's name is Peter Adams. Update of our 2010 report. If you want to stay in a run down, dirty, dusty, unmaintained caravan park that is "managed" by someone who is totally without any people skills whatsoever and you don't mind paying top dollar, ($35 night, powered site) for very small sites, nil amenities for campers, no dryer for mums with kids or those needing their washing dried quickly, washing machines that are definitely not up to standard, an extremely unfriendly manager who is constantly on the lookout for anyone committing the most minor "offence", such as using a little water or accidently putting a vehicle wheel on the concrete slab as you are arriving or leaving and similar transgressions that all attract a screaming session, then the Onslow Ocean View Caravan Park is for you. My wife and I were recently "evicted" for my insisting that we had paid by cheque many times during the 21 years we had been going to the town and this stupid woman lost a 2 month booking so she could show her superiority over a customer by refusing to accept that what I said was true, even though I showed her cheque stubs and the language had to be heard to be believed. A skilled business person, definitely not, but a foolish loser more in need of professional help than anyone I have known before, definitely. So, head off to Onslow if you must but remember, there is another caravan park in town, the Beadon Bay Village where the owners actually smile and let you use water and say thank you etc, basically all the things "normal" businesses offer, but not the Ocean View Caravan Park at Onslow. An elderly couple, she 89, he 92, one with ongoing problems after bowel surgery and both requiring walking frames were last week denied access to the disabled shower/toilet because the manager, in her opinion, did not think the couple were disabled enough to need access to the disabled facility because she said they had "left a mess" yet another woman, in a wheelchair, was allowed access, with her children, (who more than likely left any mess and are not disabled at all), were allowed continued access I should add that for many years this park was friendly and well run but since the above manager has been there, it has been going downhill rapidly and is just about at the end of the road. Very unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, water pressure is bad, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. No camp kitchen, no wireless internet available. Dirty gas bbq, dismal bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: The customers, mostly elderly who have been going therw for years and still keep going, despite this woman but who universally dislike her.
Dislikes: All of the above

Likes: Location, location, but ...
Dislikes: Park is old and appears to have had no maintenance for years. Bugs are a problem but we were sprayed by the shire's insect hit squad trailer that they use for this purpose. Amenities ready for demolition. I don't know about the hot water as my tap in the shower didn't work. Wife did have a shower with hot water that worked ok. Response to report was immediate.
Local Information: Worth the visit - Probably 2 days to see Old Onslow and New Onslow.
Roads: Very good road in.

Manager's name is Peter Adams. Too many pets not under control. The lease holder was originally here around 10 years ago with his wife and family and the park was very well run and maintained until he left for family reasons. He returned a few years ago with his new partner who, to be honest, has no idea how to run a caravan park in a friendly manner and runs the park with an "iron fist" and actually screams at her (elderly) customers for minor infractions of her rules, ie, accidently driving onto slabs while entering or leaving the very tight sites and if you are seen using water for any reason other than basic needs, watch out! People skills are unknown quantities with this lady and she is definitely losing her long standing customers, some of whom have been coming for more than 20 years. Sadly, the potential of this once very friendly and welcoming park is now gone and with it, many of the once long term annual stayers who now go elsewhere (the owner of the other park in town says this lady is the best thing that has happened for his business). This report is not meant to be just a kick at the couple who hold the lease, I am trying to be open and honest with this assessment and while we have been coming to Onslow for many years, it gets harder each year to justify why we should continue to bother. From year to year there now appears to be absolutely no maintenance done, the grounds are just a dusty mess with weeds everywhere, mostly dead. The "campers area" is always muddy because this is where the washing machines pump their water to through a couple of hoses and while the idea is ok to use water wisely, it shows a complete disregard for campers who pay a reasonably high price for a section of dust or mud to stay. There are no facilities at all for campers other than a small domestic bbq, not even a camper's kitchen or fridge and just one small fluoro light to light the entire camper's area. Amenities are very rundown and impossible to clean properly, cracks in walls and showers been in evidence for at least 5 years, very low/restricted water pressure with water constantly running hot and cold during your shower, no dryers for clothes which is a big nuisance for mums with small kids or babies, especially in humid weather. The roads around the park are nothing more than pot holes and dirt with broken sections of asphalt going completely unrepaired for years. Charges are reasonable as far as they go but when the general condition of the place is taken into account and complete lack of amenity, nothing at all, eg, sausage sizzle, pancake mornings, sing-alongs, scones, morning teas etc and the owners/lessees never mix or walk around and chat with their customers. I would suggest anyone thinking of staying at Onslow should consider either the other caravan park at Beadon Bay at the other end of the town or one of the other accommodation choices available. Unfriendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($450 2A, cabin, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate taps close by. Poor laundry, no rec room, disabled facilities, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 1). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Dirty gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Memories of how it used to be.
Dislikes: So rundown, dirty and unfriendly attitude from the lady in charge.

Park owned by Shire. Staff at check in were very abrupt and rude about dogs. Dogs are not allowed to do their business in the park grounds. Because we had a dog we were shoved away in the back without ocean views. Park is rundown (as it town) and overpriced. Unfriendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($30 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenities were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: The road out.
Dislikes: Staff attitude. Amenity block was disgustingly dirty and old. Need complete overhaul. Treated like second class citizens because we had a dog. People without dogs had beachfront sites at no additional charge! Dusty dirty park.
Local Information: Whilst right on beach, unable to swim due to crocs, sharks and rocks. Large tides reveal lots of rocks. Great 1km boardwalk along beach edge is worth walking.

Reasonable park right on the beach, while facilities were fairly old we found them quite reasonable, with shower curtains and a dry area that stayed dry. Obviously a lot of people spend their winter here, but there was plenty of room for travellers. Everything in this part of WA is expensive, so although a bit pricey, it was less than some other places around. Water quality was great. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Clean gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting. No pool. A two star park at a four star price ($30 per night 2A) in a five star location. The park is basic, an amenity block with laundry, a barbecue and that's it. The amenities are basic: small cubicles, no soap, no towels, no air-blower. The park is not attractive, a few unattractive-looking cabins scattered around and the ground is mainly sand. The roadways are bitumen but partially covered by sand. Positives: The powered sites are of a good size, most with a new concrete annexe pad and separated from its neighbour by garden beds. There is an extension area for the high season, with another amenity block. In this area the ground is just sand and gravel and there are a number of mature trees. The management is friendly and helpful. The park is quiet, right next to the beach (We were lucky enough to get a beachside site, angled so that we could sit outside and look across Beadon Bay.). Suitable for any length of stay (In the season: May to September you will need to book in advance).

Fabulous park layout, amenities, sites +++. We were asked if we'd like help to park at our site and the manager parked our van for us; amazing! Generally a neat & tidy, spacious park, but when busy they will put large vans in small tent sites and on roadways. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($37.00 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to most sites, no sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, good rec room, car wash, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, not enough shade. Dirty gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: Very neat & tidy park. Good amenities (currently not enough for peak times but they are presently building an additional amenities block).
Dislikes: Pity about the lack of shade. BBQ area is great but BBQs were filthy (not cleaned for a number of days) and no bin or scraper to assist and promote cleaning. Also when we visited two weeks earlier and booked personally, we were assured we would have a large van site (we have a 22' van) but when we arrived we were given a tent site (as were a few other large vans) - our neighbour's power cord and hoses were virtually under our awning and there was no privacy or perception of space as their van was less than a m from our own awning. A couple of vans were on the roadways with power leads run over sites. Very disappointing as park was otherwise quite spacious.
Parking: Room for one car & van outside reception, but others can park on road leading to entry as traffic is minimal.
Added Touches: Car/van wash-down bay.
Local Information: Great little town and handy to Cossack - and "stairway to the moon" viewing sites.
Roads: Access roads are all sealed.

Clean electric bbq (free), bbq area lighting. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: it is a lovely park, well maintained and the sites are great, ample room to fit your van, car and annexe. Well thought out
Dislikes: Pretty expensive and washing was expensive
Parking: Need to check in as there is a boom gate
Local Information: There is a lot to see at Cossack, Roebourne, Wickham and Point Samson, nice walks along the beach, but be careful if you have a dog, as crocodiles have been spotted in the area and river at Cossack and the creeks where ever there is mangroves. $35 per night. Easy to find as the main Point Samson road runs past the park. Very nice new park on headland with views over the ocean. Very short walk to general store, pub and fish and chips cafe, and to either of the two beaches. Sites had a double concrete block with grass and plants between each site. Wide roads made backing in so much easier. Toilet block had large cubicles and were adequate for full park. BBQ area with tables and benches, plus recreation room. No swimming pool. Liked - Moby's fish and chips. Also Port to Port tour which was both interesting and excellent value for $5 per person - book ahead through Roebourne Visitors' Centre.

We stayed in an ensuite site. Nice large ensuite, large bench area to unpack onto, good shower cubicle with curtain, good shower rail but no hook. Hot water was unreliable, the shower alternated between too cold and too hot, we couldn't get it adjusted to stay at the correct temperature. Concrete slab for both annex and van, gravel site for car next to the annex slab. Our site was level. Nice wide street so easy to get into site. Laundry had 4 washing machines at $4 per load, no dryer and only 4 rotary clothes lines, so you needed to get your laundry done early or you'd have nowhere to hang it. Park is right on the beach, so caters for both family beach holidays as well as travellers. Park is quite dear, but most things in this part of the world seem to be. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($49 2A per night, ensuite, peak season). Inadequate number of tourist sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Dirty gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Being a new park it has been well laid out with thought given to grassed access strips behind vans. The showers are large and dry area stays dry and showers are separate from the toilet area. As cars are parked adjacent to the site and the roads are nice and wide, it makes for easy reversing.
Dislikes: Even though we were on a concrete slab we still had to use blocks to level the van. The undercover seating area for the bbq is some distance from the bbq which was not cleaned during out stay. Don't like having to pay $1 to wash the car after paying the $35 per night. The current amenity block is not big enough to cope at peak times and sufficient amenity blocks should have been built at the start.
Parking: Outside reception
Added Touches: Mini mart, fish cleaning table, gas refills.
Local Information: Tours run from Roebourne Visitors Centre to Cape Lambert & Cossack 3 times per week between May-October and at $5 per person is excellent value. There are visitors centres at Roebourne and Karratha where you can book for the various tours on offer. There are two beaches close to the park which are safe for swimming. Caravan accommodation is limited around Port/South Hedland area, you may need to book ahead, mainly used as a transit point for travellers North and South to/from Broome and the Kimberley, this is a large noisy park, ore trains pass through two level crossings within 400m of park every hour - blowing horn, approx 3/4 park is permanent, mainly mining related families, who keep to themselves and are not a problem, except it limits the amount of tourist sites available. Noise starts early 5a.m. road traffic and permanents preparing for work. Park fees reflect the fact that everyone is trying to make a quid out of the resources boom, mining personnel are paid high wages and are charged accordingly for their accommodation in these transit parks, tourists have to pay the same high fees. Alternatives, Cooke Point BIG4 Port Hedland, $50 2A powered, no van sites available early Sept. Likes: the pool was clean and refreshing at the end of the day.
Dislikes: the sites are not deep and many vans had trouble fitting on the sites, very close back to back, the roads are not wide and you virtually had to manoeuvre your vehicle onto the opposite site to align your van onto your site.

On arrival at 12.00pm we were advised that if we wanted to view the site before checking in we would have to wait an hour as she closed for lunch and had an appointment to go to. So we took site without viewing and it had a tent on it. When manager returned we advised her we had changed sites, she was ok with that. Unfriendly staff. Poor value for money ($40 2A per night, powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, disabled facilities. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen, secure entry, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting No playground, no pool. Clean pool is shaded. There were several dogs in the park during our stay. This park has a lot of the mining community living there as permanents. You can hear the trains to the Port during the night. Average staff friendliness. Poor value for money ($40 2A per night, powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, basic camp kitchen, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, not enough shade, too many permanents. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Not far from the KMart/Coles shopping centre at South Hedland
Dislikes: The sites were fairly shallow; our 22' van fitted in ok but a couple of 24' vans near us were to the edge of gutter. Sites were red dust; toilets were very run down - some had no door locks, some no loo paper etc. Although the park had a dump point it was situated INSIDE the laundry which was next to the kitchen; not an ideal location.

Under new management from July 2010. This park has a no pet policy however we were allowed to take our dog provided we controlled her well. Did notice another camper had a dog and a cat was wandering around so they probably allow pets in their quiet times. This is probably the best option for staying in Port Hedland. Average staff friendliness. Poor value for money ($35 2A, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, adequate taps close by. Noisy, too many permanents. Clean pool. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: Noisy with road trains thundering by during the night. Amenities have seen better days but good water pressure and hot. Due to the majority of people there being miners and on shift work some there is constant noise of people talking, leaving for work etc. Expensive but not unexpected.

The receptionists were not at all welcoming. One was on the telephone, one was in the back office, and the other was staring at her computer screen. No one acknowledged my arrival. I said, 'Good morning' and the one staring at her screen mumbled, 'How are you ' without taking her eyes off the screen. She then said, 'What can I do for you ' again without taking her eyes from the screen. I did not respond and after a few seconds she turned to look at me. I explained that when I booked I was given a specific site because we have a large rig, but was told in no uncertain terms that that site had been given to a 5th Wheeler and I was mistaken. I felt it better not to argue. Unfriendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($50 2A per night, powered). We paid $45 because of Chain discount. No bad experiences here but it's just so expensive for what you get. These are truly the golden arches of the caravan park world. Staff weren't tremendously friendly but in so saying were terribly efficient & matter of fact. At $44 for a ute to park the night & being woken really early each day by the workers staying here made it an unpleasant experience. In so saying, if you're buggered from a long day in the saddle it's as good as anywhere else. Average staff friendliness. Poor value for money ($44 2A per night, unpowered, shoulder season). Likes: Shade.
Dislikes: Narrow access roads - couldn't get my 22' van around the corner into the site road without wheels going across curbs. Width of road was 1.5 car widths - so when reversing van, had to put car onto sites on other side and this was difficult as there were vans and cars parked there. Often people had to move vehicles etc to let someone else park their van or get out.

Nice park with concrete slab for caravan, annex and car. Campervan sites did not have car slab, tent sites had concrete slab for car, and green matting for tent so not dusty. Grounds were well maintained. Park is on a point next to beach, so pretty quiet, with views. Van parking assistance provided for all. Need to book in peak season. Facilities were good, large clean showers with good dry area, good hot water. Lots of cabins with local workers, but we weren't disturbed at all by them. A bit pricey, but everything seems to be in this part of the world. This is a very well maintained park with friendly staff and good amenities. Sites are roomy and all have concrete pads for car, van and awning. Good views from some. Wireless internet available. Bookings essential in peak season - park was always booked out by midday. Roads are narrow and some sites difficult to access, but staff always helped. Good views of Staircase to The Moon on the right nights. Some noise at night from distant iron ore loaders if wind in certain direction, but not obtrusive. Concerns: This is a BIG4 park owned by the Aspen group, which means prices are higher than other parks and becoming beyond the reach of those on limited incomes. For example, washing machines are $4 compared to $3 elsewhere, car washing cost $5, free elsewhere, Internet $15 minimum. Price of $39 2A before discount for powered site considered expensive.
Date 07/2008. Park Rating 4.5: Would certainly stay again, if only because there is little other alternative in Port Hedland.

The park is also part of the Aspen Group. Be aware that the staff insist on helping you unhitch. We declined the offer (twice) but they still went ahead and ended up damaging the back of our Prado as they did things in the incorrect order. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($42.00 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site Basic laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Clean UC bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Dislikes: The roads in the park are very narrow and some sites are very difficult to get onto. Because of the nearby swamps midges are a real problem. 3-4 kms from the shops. The cost is way over the top for what was provided.

This park isn't the best, I arrived on a Sunday and chose my own site, and paid the next day. It is very much a permanent park, not many tourist sites at all, most sites are taken up by the permanents, no drive thru sites, only about 10 or 15 tourist sites. The amenities is a fair walk away, took me a while to find where it is. Couldn't find a BBQ area or anything. Management was friendly when booking out, about 13 km from Port Hedland still, even though it is on the main road, it wasn't too bad. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($20 1A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites. You can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Too many permanents.
Likes: Not much but not many parks there, and one of the only ones that take dogs. Did the job to stay there a night
Dislikes: Amenities too far away and far too many permanents, but at night they didn't make any noise
Local Information: Had a quick look around Port Hedland, few things to see, pretty pool at low tide was a popular place for taking dogs for a walk
Roads: Good, decent road

Like most parks in the NW, most of the tenants are workers in the various industries of the area. There are two amenity blocks, both shabby but functional. Unfortunately a few of the tenants' toilet habits leave a lot to be desired. There is a nice, shaded, pool, which could do with a bit of TLC and a basic BBQ area. The main caravan site area has lawn and some attractive native trees. During our stay we found the staff to be friendly and helpful although new managers were due to take over the following week, hopefully there'll be no change in staff attitude. The truck stop, being what it is, has a lot of trucks starting and stopping, refuelling or the drivers reviving, and, at times, mainly late afternoon and evening, there is a bit of noise but we didn't find it intrusive. Being on the Broome side of town it is a good place to stop if you are travelling north.

Robe River Rest Area, Robe River
The official Robe River Rest Area (Camps 5 #500) 160kms SE of Karratha, 117 kms N of Nanutarra Roadhouse, is on the left hand side of the road. It has toilets and a dump point and room for about 15-20 rigs. It allows a 24hr stopover, but the other side of the road also has plenty of space and no signage, though there are no facilities, there the parking spots are among ghost gums on fine river pebbles left by the last floods. There are many spots along the river, the bank is steep and muddy in places but others are accessible, the water is clear and deep and has many reeds but is fine for washing and amenities. 80% of the “ground” here is a fine (about 2mm) river pebble, so there are soft spots where you could get bogged but there are hard tracks throughout. Due to a mine close by, there is full Telstra coverage.

This is the only caravan park in town and is home to a lot of permanent miners and their families. We asked to be close to the camp kitchen not realising we would be placed amongst them. The park layout is interesting with the miner's quarter's right next to the backpacker's quarters which is next to the camp kitchen. This made for a few interesting nights because the miners need to be up early, therefore early to bed but the holiday makers want to sit around swapping travel stories. Lights out at 9:00pm really meant lights out, with the park owner walking around with his torch looking for the trouble makers (there is a number the 'permanents' call if there is any noise). We really should have been located down near the other holiday campers, but there were no camp kitchen facilities down that end. The amenities block also looked dirty with cracked tiles and unmaintained floors. Out of the six toilets there was water around at least 3 of them permanently. There is another amenities block at the other end of the park which was newer and cleaner. I did mention at the office we were going to order pizza, she didn't tell us how terrible they were, which was disappointing because every other permanent resident laughed when we told them about our pizza experience. A nice little surprise was that they incorrectly charged us. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($50 2A C3 per night, powered). We paid $37.50 because we believe an error was made with our rate. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, shade to some sites, no rec room, good camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, too many permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days .
Likes: Nice grassy sites.
Dislikes: The amenities block needs a revamp. Didn't like the amenities cleaning times being so early, we are on holidays and don't need to be rushed.
Local Information: Great access to Karajini National Park - wonderful experience with the kids. Do not buy pizza from the only pizza shop in town. Prices of milk, bread, petrol etc is very reasonable considering you're 500k's from the next closest town.

Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($36.50 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: Treatment pond close to park and it can be smelt when the wind blows. The entrance to the park is a bit tight. The park is a few kms from town.

This park is far too expensive for what is offered. At $36.50 per night the facilities and sites should have been better presented. However, it is a spacious, quiet park and close enough to Karijini National Park to make a day trip to see the magnificent gorges. Many sites do not have shade which would be unpleasant during hot weather. We would have stayed longer except for the cost.

We were really surprised at how nice this park was being the only park in a mining town. Large grassy shady sites. Nice pool. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($47.50 2A 2C per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Basic playground in poor condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Great atmosphere - spacious, shady, grassy sites.
Dislikes: Very old playground.
Parking: Left lane.
Local Information: Mine tour OK - Newman has much better tour. Great views from top of Mt Nameless and Sheila's lookout (4WD only).

Quite a way out of town but well signposted. A beautiful setting at the foot of Mount Nameless, lots of attractive trees, lots of birds, and the kangaroos come in to eat the green, green grass. There appears to be two areas, an older one, which contains mainly permanents and long termers, and a newer area which is mainly tourists. In the latter the sites are large, most with a pink concrete annexe pad, surrounded by lawn. The roadways are wide and of red gravel. Each area has an amenity block, each with a laundry, and the one we used was fairly modern and good to use. There is a nice pool area but no seating around the pool. Staff are friendly and helpful and can arrange tour bookings. There is a new camp-kitchen and a children's play area. As you sit outside, having that little beverage just before dinner, the galahs, corellas and pigeons come and join you and the kangaroos graze only a couple of feet away, and you could be out in the bush somewhere. A quiet, peaceful park, a pleasure to stay in.

This is the only park in a typical mining town and their attitude suggested they didn't give a rats about their customers. What disgusted me the most apart from the $30 a night extra they decided to charge when we arrived compared to the price quoted over the phone when we booked (apparently due to a change in ownership), was the appalling discrimination shown against families. All the other parks we have stayed in (over 50) have charged anywhere from zero (in a lot of cases for our 3yo) to $5-10 per child but this park charged $30 per night. We will never stay here again. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($164 2A C1 per night cabin). Cabin was clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Clean UC bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in poor condition. Clean pool is open to the sun, pool area not considered kid-safe. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Disgusting profiteering and discrimination against families.
Local Information: Pilbara Mine Tour.

We had no problem with courtesy or attitude of staff - all were friendly and helpful. Large park with a variety of accommodation and quite a few permanents and long stay workers. Quiet location backed by bush with awesome view of Mount Nameless. Sites generally large, gravel surfaced, some grass. Good water to all. Two amenity blocks appeared adequate even in peak times but a little tired although clean enough. However there was always water on the floor in showers, plus red dirt from boots of workers, despite provision of mops. Park had playground, camp kitchen, dump point (strangely located inside one of the laundries!) Price of $33 2A for powered site considered a little high, but there is no competition in town. This was our second visit and we would certainly stay again. Suitable for short or longer stay.

Herbert Parker Rest Area, Yule River
Pilbara area. Free 24 hour rest stop on North West Coastal Hwy 56km northeast Whim Creek, 62km southwest Port Hedland. All pets allowed.

The previously advertised "camping allowed" sign at the entrance to this area has been removed. The facilities provided, long drop toilet, bench seats and tables and plenty of shade remain although the water is drying into a bit of a mud hole. Free stay. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families.

Pit toilets have been removed and fence erected to prevent people camping along the river and getting away from the noise of the highway. No longer signed as a 24 hour rest area. OK for an overnight stop if fully self contained. Small rest area alongside highway 30 kms further S at Peawah river still has pit toilet and is suitable for an overnight stop. Both rest areas are on river pools (depending on seasonal conditions) with plenty of birds. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: A large area along the river has now been closed to campers, and all pit toilets removed.
