Anglers Rest Campground, Alpine National Park
Within the Alpine National Park, so no pets (the ranger made one couple take their pet to Lakes Entrance to book into a kennel, or the option of moving on). Drop toilet, fireplaces, tables and seats. Only one toilet at the end of the campground. No designated camping spots, just setup at a picnic table or wherever. The Cobungra River runs alongside - clean and a delight, with trout jumping in the early evening. Shallow water, safe for kids with supervision, while we were there. Pub with cold beer and good meals, but no ice. Nearest town is Omeo, about 3/4 hour drive away. Nice and relaxing. Ok for caravans. We spent 3 great days building a "dam" in nearby rapids with the kids.
Local Information: We used it as a base to leave the van and explore the area. A nice drive is to Falls Creek (road closed in winter), 45 kms away (39 kms on good dirt road and very steep at the start, so I could not recommend a caravan).

Likes: Lovely shady trees - park & amenities kept very clean - close to town.

Added Touches: Free coffee vouchers for local Bakery
Local Information: Many cafes & hotels for reasonable priced meals. Much local history. Historic cemetery & sightseeing to fill your days.

Silver Creek Caravan Park, Beechworth
On the road to Stanley, 1.5 kms south of town. Ph: 03 5728 1597. Caravan Parks Victoria member.
About 24 powered sites. Dog friendly. Friendly owner showed us to the site and gave us a choice. Kiosk, ice. Basic camp kitchen. Free UC bbqs, with the plates clean but not the surrounding surfaces (very greasy and dirty). Most sites shady all day, except those closest to the amenities/pool. Level sites, sullage, water and power, and some with coax points, mostly grassy. No TV reception except via coax (can be borrowed from office). Amenities very good, would cope in peak times, good water pressure, soap and paper towels, warm at night. Large separate baby/kids bathroom. Good laundry. Clean solar-heated pool, no shade, seats provided. Fire bins provided free, wood for sale, you can't bring in your own firewood. Quite, friendly, shady. Good for a few days to a week. $30 2A 2C per night powered.
Dislikes: The bbq area was filthy and no attempt was made to clean them over the 3 days.
Local Information: Lots of touristy things to do, focus on gold history and Ned Kelly. Recommend the Echoes of History self-guided tour ($10 adults or $20 family). A must-see is the Burke Museum (is part of the self-guided tour). Free all-day parking is in Loch Street (near Burke Museum), otherwise you may get booked if you exceed the 2-hour limit in the main streets. Ask for the free brewery vouchers, that saves $3 for tastings.

UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site and explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good with adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps and sullage close by. Good laundry, basic rec room, secure entry. Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean gas UC (free) bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool which is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided.
Likes: Only caravan park in town, therefore we were a captive audience. Manager did offer to provide laptop computer email dial-up facility through his fax line.
Dislikes: Adjoining saw mill is noisy from 8 to 5 week days & Saturday mornings. Facilities are a little tired, but manager claimed to have been there for only a couple of weeks (from early April 05) so things might improve with a little capital injection.
Parking: Designated parking in unsuitable for caravans while waiting to book in.
Park Rating 3.5: Suitable for few days.

Bright Accommodation Park, Bright
On the Great Alpine Road, 4 kms south of Bright, just before Germantown (travelling south). Signposted thru town as "Bright Accomm". Ph: 1800 658 056. Dog friendly.
Manager's name is Tracey. Family Parks member. I personally would never go back to this park and I don't think anyone else in our group of 6 vans would either. Perhaps in off season would be OK, but the damage has already been done to us. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff helped us at the site Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($62 2A C2 per night powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, small sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, basic rec room, kiosk. Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade. UC gas bbq, dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Good playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: TV connection in power box, without coax cable you don't get any picture, so with the cable you obtain a great picture. Office has a few cables to loan out but it wasn't long enough for our van, so went into town to purchase a 10 mtr cable. Soap and paper towel provided in amenities.
Dislikes: Not enough water pressure for our shower to work in our van, so we had to trickle the water into our tanks then use our own pumps to operate our showers with. Most sites had large tree roots right outside van doors and because the owners jammed us in they wouldn't even let us move the van a metre or so to avoid them. Therefore we hopped out of our van and straight onto large roots, we were very worried about twisting our ankles. Owner Tracey was extremely helpful in making our booking but upon arrival was a little less helpful when we discovered we were all squeezed in and weren't happy, she didn't really care as she already had her money. Main amenity block OK, but second one closest to us was very basic. Rather like a farm shed with barn doors on 3 toilets and only 2 showers. The owners had gone around entire park with a can of orange paint and painted on grass extra sites. Our site would have been sufficient in size had it not been cut into 2 to squeeze tents in behind. For the money we paid the sites were totally insufficient. Silly garden beds in between each site with no garden edging so people were continually tramping over and through them as there wasn't enough room to swing a cat. Also every 1/2 hour or so, the overflow from the sewage water sprays through onto these garden beds and wets our campsites, very nice indeed! Games rooms was on a second story on top of amenities so dangerous for children climbing metal stairs on exterior of building, and basic things for them to play with. BBQ's right in front of toilet doors, badly placed, signs say don't clean BBQ hot plate with water but no explanation as to why, but we now know that the water nearby is probably sewage water. Annoying key pad number entry to amenities which often didn't work on first try, why they need this I don't know, perhaps would have been better to leave doors ajar during the day with keypad only at night. No dump point, must dispose of toilet waste from cassette in van in the toilets.
Parking: This park was very tight to manoeuvre a large van, tight corners with metal road signs that stick out so you have to watch that your awning doesn't get ripped. The owners jammed packed us in the park like sardines to make the most out of their Easter income. Only enough room for van no parking for vehicle, this is not acceptable when our friends who had 3 children paid $70 per night for a basic powered site for their camper trailer with no car parking. We have 2 children so it was $62 per night for a powered site with no car park. You had to find a rare spot at the front of park or park on highway outside park boundary. I think the normal carpark during off season was where they squeezed in tents.
Added Touches: Easter Hunt and egg painting for the kids but then we were charged and extra $11 per child per night, the most I have ever paid in 5 years of caravanning and being in a club and travelling often. Wine tastings from a local winery. Fires permitted but they charged $20 per weekend for use of drums and only had a limited number, would have been nice if owners suggested we bring our own drum considering we were a group booking of 6 vans (12 adults and 16 kids).
Local Information: Bright is a beautiful area to visit, but I wouldn't go back until Summer as it was very cold even in April. Fantastic free adventure playground in town for kids. Lovely shopping area but packed out at Easter when streets closed off for market.
Roads: Good

Friendly, owner showed us to our site and gave us a choice. Power, water, sullage and TV coax to sites - we borrowed a coax from the office (free), otherwise no TV reception at all. Very shady. Clean shaded pool, toddlers pool. Free clean UC gas bbqs. 2 amenity blocks, key-punch coded (why?). A couple of en-suites are available at $10 extra per night. I only visited one amenity block, just 2 showers and 3 toilets, no urinal in men's. Soap and paper towels supplied. Garbage and recycle bins handy. Cabins and on-sites available. Kiosk with ice, and movie rental. Rec room, camp kitchen. Good playground. Water pressure at site taps abysmal.
Local Information: Don't have the scones at the Bright Bakery in the main street - they were like rock cakes. A nice easy walk is the Canyon Walk along the riverside, about 1.5 hours. A drive up to Mt Buffalo is a must. A walk up to The Horn (1.5 kms return from the top car park, and not too difficult) gives 360o views all the way to Mt Kosciusko - brilliant!

Bright Caravan Park, Bright
Cherry Ave. Straight through Bright towards Harrietville. Park is signposted (500m from centre of town) on right hand side. Ph: 03 5755 1141.
Manager's name is Ian & Traci Boreham. We were there on a very busy Melbourne Cup weekend, and it would be difficult to squeeze any more people into the park. However the facilities seemed adequate & were kept reasonably clean. It is a beautiful area with the creek running though the middle of the park - on the hot weekend this was a major area of entertainment for many families. There was plenty of shade (fortunately not from eucalypts, which tend to drop branches) with grass covered sites, sullage, power & water close to the site & a dump point was available. Unfortunately the water pressure was a bit low, but that was probably due to the heat & the number of people using it. Site size was reasonable, though we got the last of the larger sites and I am not sure that a larger van or motorhome would fit on many of the sites. Cost was $42 a night for 2 people on a powered site (peak period). The park is central to the town with shops a short walk - and the town of Bright is central to a marvellously interesting area. There are many permanents (annuals) but there were still plenty of tourist sites - all full this weekend! Overall it is a park where you could stay for a week or so - if you could afford it.

A very large site in superb condition. Many statics but all well looked after. The only poor looking one was removed during our visit! Large drive through sites, absolutely spotless amenities (only 1 open this time of year so can't comment on others). Many mature trees (but not enough to be intrusive), well maintained grass, and other facilities. Morse Creek splits the sight into two with pedestrian swing bridges, stepping-stones and a normal road allowing access to both sides. Short walk to town but site was very quiet at this time of year. Hard to judge how it will be in middle of high season. Only down side was $27/night 2 Adults which is very steep for off-season. Wood fires and drums available complete with kindling and wood from site but at $20 each we thought that was a rip off and didn't bother. Would have rated higher other than costs. Suitable for a long term stay as the surrounding area is magnificent with a good mix of mountains, shops, wineries and restaurants. Staff very friendly and helpful.

Bright Riverside Holiday Park, Bright
Toorak Avenue. Turn left after roundabout, cross bridge, turn right and first on right. Ph: 03 5755 1118. Family Parks member. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is Peter and Karyn. Good riverfront park located fairly central to Bright. Would have stayed longer if price was reasonable. We will price other parks in area before returning. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($33.00 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Basic playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: Riverfront location and being able to walk into town.
Dislikes: Very excessive price per night considering time of year was low season and no one about.
Parking: Park at reception. Were able to pick our own site as it was very quite.
Local Information: Many sights in the area.
Roads: Good roads.

One of the better parks I have stayed in. Nice trees gardens & green lawn - no dust or mud. Our camper trailer fitted on the concrete annex slabs. These sites were smallish but car fitted in front ok. Our 7yo loved the tennis court, pool and rec room (lights are on a timer to go off at 10pm). The rec room also houses the free covered gas BBQ with tables and seats, awesome camp kitchen and air conditioned TV room. There were sponges at all vanities and mops to clean shower floor after use. The laundry area also had lots of clothes lines. A little more expensive but well worth it.

Excellent, clean facilities are on offer at this park. We chose to pay the extra for an ensuite site. Possibly the best sites we have come across in many years. Heaps of space, level gravel caravan sites with concrete annexe pad and a lawn area infront and to the sides of your site. At $30.00 per night for an ensuite, we thought it was great value. $25.00 for level grassed drive though sites. This park was opened in 2000 and has been very well planned. The trees have now grown and there is ample shade, an excellent pool and BBQ area are available, tennis court and golf practice net are a nice touch. The park is about 1 to 2 km from town and is dog friendly. The manager offered assistance with parking the van if required. To sum up, we would highly recommend this park. Great value for money, clean modern facilities and secure entry.

Very attractive and well maintained park with selection of en-suite and drive-through sites. The en-suite bathrooms are the largest we have come across and each block of en-suite sites share a large laundry. Swimming pool and camp kitchen with pleasant aspect across a billabong. We wanted a drive-through site which was not available but the manager found us a spot where we could stay hooked on for the night and put the van on site for us. We'd definitely stay again. $25 for drive through site.

There are many caravan parks that should come and have a look to see what can be provided for under $30. There are 8 ensuite sites and about 28 powered sites, plus a number of cabins and apartments. Discounts to members of RACV and affiliated motoring organisations. There were only 4 showers and 4 toilets in the amenities block - that was okay for the number of sites in use when we were there, but may not be if all sites were booked. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($26 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. We did not know it was a long weekend in Victoria hence the higher than expected price. Also they are no longer a member of Family Parks Chain. UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

The new owners have been there only a few months and they assured us that they have a lot of work to do. They were very friendly and showed us a site. The park was well grassed with a lot of shade, mostly level, there were no slabs. It was quiet when we were there. The lighting at night was poor, and there were no restrictions from public access. We disliked a dog running loose and had to clear droppings on our site. The toilets and showers were old but clean – although I found that if I chose the wrong cubicle I got the 'wash' from the guy upstream. Paper towels and soap were provided at the washbasins. There was a good supply of hot water with large shower roses. The fee was $18 for 2 adults. The tourist drive to Towong and Walwa was well worth doing as it provided scenes of the Murray River, the green valley and snow-capped mountains in the distance. Spring is a good time for scenic views. The park was suitable for our two-day stay. We would stay again.

Boathaven Holiday Park, Ebden
Hume Wier. From Wodonga take the Murray Valley Highway east for about 12 kms. Boathaven is on Boathaven Road that leaves the highway to the left. Ph: 02 6020 6130 or 1800 352 982. BIG4 member. No dogs.
Boathaven is a large park and contains a mix of private and tourist accommodation. At the time we were there, there were 23 unpowered sites, 22 powered sites and 6 ensuite powered sites, plus 23 self-contained villas and cabins. Many of the sites are a reasonable distance from the amenities block - we were there over the Anzac long weekend and saw people head to the amenities and return immediately, so there may be insufficient facilities at peak time. We had an ensuite site, which was a good set-up although the floor got a little wet from the shower, under the curtain. Cost for ensuite site was approx $36 per night 2A (average over a week, including long weekend). Our daughter and family stayed in a villa for $150 per night, 2A 3C - really nice unit. The camp kitchen had 5 electric pay BBQs, plus hot-plates, microwave, oven etc. There were also a couple of free gas BBQs around the site. The ensuite powered sites had a concrete slab for annexe, but most of the powered sites appear to be plain grass or dirt. We would come back, but to an ensuite site. This is a well run park, but it may pay to book ahead and check what sites are available. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff helped us at the site. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, separate bathroom. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, average sized sites. Good laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, secure entry. Quiet, family/friendly atmosphere. Good playground in good condition. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Manager's name is Jenny & Ken Garner. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq ($1), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: It is a large park, very clean and tidy, amenity blocks were constantly cleaned, pool area was fantastic, bbq area was excellent, with communal fridges, bbq, kitchen facilities to wash dishes, microwaves.
Dislikes: There is only one amenity block for the whole park, with a lot of people staying in tents it would have been good to have another amenity block down were all the people staying in tents could have had easy access. We had a powered caravan site next to the amenity block which was great but would have been disappointed to have to wander during the night to go to the amenities block if staying in unpowered tent site. The kiosk was not equipped enough it had a few basic items. Boathaven would excel if they had maybe a cafe or the like.
Parking: no.
Added Touches: We stayed over the Easter period there were movies on at approximately 8pm every night on the grassed area near reception but maybe an Easter egg hunt for the little kids would have been great.
Local Information: This park is located on Lake Hume, which at high water peak time would have been fantastic but as there is a drought there was water in the Lake but not a lot but if you were interested in water sports there is ample enough water still for fun.
Roads: Road conditions were excellent to get to park.

We found this park to be a really clean well maintained park with friendly staff, a great place to relax for a few days. If we had children with us it would be great due to the pool and playground and tennis court. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($31 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: A really quite friendly park but it would be a lot busier in the main holiday periods. A lovely outlook over Lake Hume only at our visit the water levels are very low so that allowed us to walk on much of the dam site.
Dislikes: A bit far from a shopping center so you have to drive to get everything.
Parking: Yes a place to park at the side of the road before the gate.

At far end of Harrietville, turn right just after the pub before the road starts to climb to Mt. Hotham.
We called in here to see if they had an overnight vacancy, but they hadn't. Probably just as well, as we would not have stayed anyway, simply because the place was "jam packed". We had to drive through the park to get back out, and the place was noisy, with kids everywhere (we had kids) and dogs running free. Likes: The amenities were spotless and always available. We had a severe windstorm and the manager was ok to lend his tools for repairs to vans. This is why I gave it a slightly higher rating. Sites were really clean and the park was just a nice place to be.
Dislikes: The trees are still slow growing so shade is minimal. It will be a much better park once the trees are more established.
Local Information: There is plenty to see in this area. Lots of bushland and snow in winter. There is local 4WDing and plenty of bush to get away in for a fish or to go shooting.

Mansfield Lakeside Ski Village, Mansfield
Park situated approx 7km from Mansfield PO on Howes Creek Road. Ph: 03 2775 2735.
Large park that caters more for permanents and annuals than tourists. First appearance is to put a bull dozer through the park as the sight of permanent vans are quite ugly. (It makes you wonder why we kept going in, maybe because the only way out was through the park). Amenities were below average and needed a good clean. The water from the showers flowed from one shower right through the other two to get to the drain hole. They were not cleaned at all in the two days that we were there and they looked like they had been that way for at least a week. Amenities would not cope in peak times. There is no lighting for night time, so quite dangerous walking on the rocky road to get to the amenities. Large playground that kept the kids occupied and an in-ground pool, both in reasonable condition. Sites are very difficult to manoeuvre as trees in the way and the roadway not very wide, and cha ins put up on some sites so that you could not use them (couldn't understand why). Would not recommend staying here unless nothing else available. Cannot understand how it has a three star rating. We gave it a "one" only because of the decent looking pool and playground, otherwise it wouldn't have got a rating at all. This has to be the most dirtiest, ugliest and uninviting park in Australia. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($28.60 2A 2C per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites. Poor laundry, too many permanents. Good playground. Clean pool is shaded.

A real gem! This little park is largely given over to on-site cabins and vans used by annual holiday makers so it is fairly quiet out of season. However, we stayed early December and apart from some fruit pickers it was still fairly empty. Murchison is well situated for visiting Shepparton (and the Ardmona SPC factory sales outlets) without the higher prices charged by some of the other surrounding parks in and around Shepparton. Very friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($63.00 2A per week powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dogs on leash. Well grassed sites that were ideal for dogs - no prickles. Clean UC bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground, no pool. A well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Great price $63.00 for a week for two people, plus dogs were allowed. Well maintained gardens, good walking path to shops, pub, sports oval adjacent. The ideal base to do the Goulburn valley attractions without spending a huge amount on the accommodation costs.

Towards Bright, travel through the town and turn right immediately after Ray's Ski Shop on the right as you are leaving the town. It is signposted and about 600m from the Post Office. Ph: 03 5752 1394. Dogs on leash.
Manager's name is Geoff & Alana Scott. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, poor night lighting, large sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, kiosk. Peaceful, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. UC gas bbq (free), seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: This is gem of a park. Rustic comes to mind, large English trees give really good shade. The shower block has been completely renovated and is excellent. Some sites have concrete but the ones to go for are under the trees. Some permanents but they are in a completely separate area. Some longer term temporary vans that park there for the summer each year but very quiet, even on a long weekend. Stop here instead of Bright and drive up to Bright.
Dislikes: Some of the sites have bits of concrete that could make it difficult to put up an annex.
Parking: Park in the entrance road and walk over to the office to stop blocking the site entrance.
Local Information: Town is a ten minute walk. Great meals at the Myrtleford Hotel and reasonably priced. Avoid the takeaway on the main road - 20 minutes to cook a very small minimum chips.

Average sites with plenty of shade. Some sites have concrete slabs for annexes. Most sites with grass covering, some do not have any due to being totally covered by trees. Modern clean amenities close to most sites. Cubicles in both showers and toilets are quite dark. Water tends to go everywhere as the drainage is inadequate. Lights are on a timer and quite often you are left in the dark in the middle of your shower, all covered in soap. No soap or hand dryers provided. Park is split into two sections - tourists one side of the road, permanents the other which is great as you do not see the permanent vans at all. Free BBQ's. Good playground. No pool. Dogs allowed, some were on leashes, the others wandered around the campsites leaving their messes behind with no owners following to clean it up. Walking distance to town. Owners friendly. $32 2A 2C per night powered.

Myrtleford Caravan Park, Myrtleford
Turn right in centre of town down Lewis Avenue. Ph: 03 5752 1598. Caravan Parks Victoria member. Most dogs not on leash.
Manager's name is Jim. Average staff friendliness. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($75.00 2A C4 per night cabin). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites. Good laundry, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean electric bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool.
Likes: The general atmosphere amongst permanents is friendly and inviting with a wonderful family environment. Shade trees are highlight of park.
Dislikes: The park is tired and old with all facilities in great need of an update. There is no equipment for children to play at all. Lighting is poor and overall appearance of park is dirty. Park has untapped potential.
Local Information: Myrtleford is a beautiful gateway location to the alpine area. However park falls well short compared to other parks in the area.

A fairly tired park very close to the centre of town. Nice setting with large mature trees providing plenty of shade but many old dirty, untidy permanents spoil the look of the place. Facilities were basic to say the least and the toilets/showers whilst painted were a bit dirty and not inviting at all. Cheap at $18 per night 2A I suppose. Try the other one in Myrtleford before this one as it looked more appealing. Superb restaurant at The Range about 2 kms away is well worth a visit.

Nagambie Caravan Park, Nagambie
143 High Street. Ph: 03 5794 2681.

A small comfortable park. Has a nice pool on a hot day. The manager was friendly and helpful. He guided us to our site which was ok for the money. We booked in for 1 night with the option to stay an extra night. Unfortunately the night we stayed we got a lot of road noise coming from lots of trucks on the highway and didn't sleep very well so left after 1 night. It was the only drawback and we might have picked a bad night. Otherwise the park was reasonable value for money for a short stay. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($22 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room. Peaceful, claustrophobic park, too many permanents. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Good swimming pool.
Dislikes: Road noise at night.

Nagambie Lakes Leisure Park, Nagambie
Loddings Lane, off Heathcote-Nagambie Road. Travelling north along the Hume Freeway and take the Shepparton turnoff along the Goulburn Valley Highway. The first town is Nagambie the heart of the Nagambie lakes region, extending along the Hume Freeway from Avenel to Longwood and following the Goulburn Valley Highway to Nagambie and the historic Goulburn Weir. Ph: 03 5794 2373. Top Tourist member. Pets at manager's discretion, April to September only.
Large, open, well grassed park with Lake Nagambie on one side and the Goulburn river on the other. The park is largely owned by Jayco, and is still under development. When finished this should be one of Victoria's better caravan/holiday parks. Management/reception were friendly and helpful from their nice modern office complex that also contains a small shop and cafe overlooking the river. Prices for a powered site for 2 adults ranged from $25 to $40, depending how far from the water you want to be! The sites are large but few are level and there are no concrete pads - who cares, when nice green grass abounds. The facilities are new, but it is a pity cleanliness isn't more of a priority. This, and the poor water pressure, is the only gripe I would have about the park. It seems the park is being squarely aimed at families, as the children's playground, jumping pillow, pool, tennis courts & games room attest. Consequently you will need to book well ahead for holiday season. This is definitely a park worth a few days or more, with many interesting places in the vicinity to explore if you get bored in the park.

The park has had a total renovation - so all the amenities, facilities, play ground, rec room, kiosk are all new. They are still doing works on the place. We had a ensuite site - I believe there are at least 12 or more ensuite sites available. They also have a licensed cafe - kiosk, internet cafe's, 2 huge plasma TV's in the rec room, pool tables. The place was just great, we enjoyed ourselves as well as our children. Highly recommend to all. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($40 2A 2C per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The scenery was just beautiful, on one side you have the Goulburn River and on the other side you have Lake Nagambie.
Dislikes: It would of been nice to of had a slab on our site as there isn't a great deal of grass yet.
Parking: There is parking for arrivals and departure
Added Touches: Wineries, river cruisers, skiing, fishing, boat hire, markets, Ned Kelly history, Gemstone museums, not far to travel to Shepparton and take the kids to kids town, Murchison, and not too far to Echuca - we found there was a lot for us to do.
Roads: The road conditions are great - it's all bitumen.

Manager's name is Hugh Harbor. This is a neat well cared for park with green lawns & well manicured rose gardens. Situated on the banks of "Broken Creek", it is an older park managed by a very pleasant couple. The shower toilet amenities block is old but clean. My wife was impressed by the vase of roses in the female amenities block! The camp kitchen area is newish and well fitted out. Parking is on the grassed sites which are reasonably level and large. Sullage is available but it was suggested we ran ours on the grass - birds eat the scraps & it saves water. It worked well for us. Children facilities are not provided but just over the road is a comprehensive playground & adjacent swimming pool. There is also a skateboard ramp behind the playground. Rates were quite cheap. Very friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($102 2A powered site over the Xmas period). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Mt. Buffalo Caravan Park, Porepunkah
Ph: 03 5756 2235. Located 1.6km from Post Office along Mt Buffalo Road.
Manager's name is Stuart Christmas. This park is located in a beautiful area and would arguably be the best situated park in the entire Bright/Porepunkah region given its position at the junction of the Ovens and Buckland Rivers. Extremely well treed which provides great protection from both heat and the very occasional summer rain shower and only 8kms from Bright this park has so much potential but is let down by extremely rude and non caring management. They are rarely visible and when spoken to highly aloof and arrogant. Campers staying there are crying out for a change of ownership and this destination will only benefit from this occurring. Having camped all over the world it is a pity that a potentially great facility is so badly let down by people so obviously in the wrong job. Very unfriendly staff. Price was as expected, good value for money. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, kiosk. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: the shade, the location, the fellow campers
Dislikes: Management is extremely poor and they are consistently uncontactable and horribly aloof when they are. Clearly in the wrong industry and seem deliberately intent on maintaining a cold attitude to campers. Think Basil Fawlty in the bush.
Parking: Parking area near office
Added Touches: None at all by the park itself which is a shame as it could really add some value particularly in peak times.
Local Information: Wonderful area, great summer weather and as much or as little to do as you wish.
Roads: Sealed roads into and out of park and all major places of interest in the region easily accessible and well signposted

Manager's name is Stuart and Cheryl Christmas. Poor management. Poor value for money. Very poor amenities, there was adequate hot water. Average sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level. Laundry, rec room, kiosk, van parking by management. Park atmosphere was okay, too many permanents for this park. Dogs allowed. UC gas bbq (free). Basic playground in poor condition. Suitable for a few days.
Likes: Shady, backs onto Ovens & Buckland Rivers which makes it easily accessible for swimming or paddling
Dislikes: Owner's attitudes. Not contactable, unhelpful. Office closed more than open. Toilet block should have been pulled down and replaced years ago. Toilets backed up and overflowed. Not enough toilets and only cleaned once a day which is inadequate during peak holiday times. Rubbish not removed daily. Too many teens wandering late at night which makes it a noisy park. Too many drivers speed thru park in cars.
Added Touches: None. Hamburger van visits once a week. Church entertainment group entertains kids in afternoons.
Local Information: At foot of Mt Buffalo and 10 min drive into beautiful Bright. Porepunkah pub nearby for good meal and happy hours.

We rang to enquire of a vacant site, and was asked how many people. "2 Adults and 2 children." The lady asked how old the kids were. "12 and 14". She told us a price of $27. When we got there and were booking in, she asked for $40. Huh? She said the $27 was for adults only. We had also enquired of another caravan park, which was $2 dearer, and on principle we said no thanks to Mt Buffalo's uncaring "tuff luck" attitude and went to the other park. We had to drive all the way around the park to get back out. The place was packed, and there were hundreds of kids everywhere. We probably would not have liked staying here anyway, as it was too crowded for our liking. Incidentally, as were negotiating our way around/out the park, the manager asked if he could help us, so we told him what happened. He also had a "couldn't care less" attitude, much like the lady at the desk who had blatantly told us the wrong price.

Owners Tim and Barbara Sullivan very helpful and very friendly. 4 nights, $30 per night with BIG4 discount for ensuite site (only 2 in park). About 5 kms before Bright. Not very busy just before snow season, and just after Bright Autumn Festival. Ensuite is very clean, good hot water and pressure. Both ensuite sites have slabs (recently done). Both ensuite sites have large tree in between them, one site unable to be used because of overhanging branches. Couldn't find water outlet so had to extend hose to another site, no sullage, was told just to put hose onto empty site, which we could do as no one else around. Park lighting is extremely poor, except for ensuite site which has automatic lighting above doors. I checked the amenities block and they are the best I have seen (would rate them 5). Well laid out, shower curtains in cubicles, and absolutely spotless. This park has many permanent vans on-site which are used by owners mainly in summer.

A truly picturesque caravan park. We visited over the May Bright Autumn festival weekend and stayed the following week. The autumn hues of the many trees in the park filtering the autumn sun's rays created an atmosphere that invited you to slow down and relax. The management and staff were friendly and advised us on where to go and what to do, what restaurants and attractions to visit and the like. Bright is a beautiful town and it is surrounded by tree covered mountains including the picturesque Mount Buffalo National Park. The people of Bright and surrounding district were, without exception, warm and friendly. Most weeknights at the Porepunkah pub, 10 minutes walk along the banks of the Ovens River from the caravan park, cheap eats were on offer. This meant that just about everybody from the district congregated there to dine and have a yarn. We were treated as though we were locals and loved every minute of it. All-in-all a great holiday experience and one we will repeat again next year! Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($33 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by. Possibly the friendliest welcome we have ever had to a caravan park. We had a great 4 night stay here and would recommend it highly. If you enjoy cycling, as we do, it is a perfect spot with the Alpine rail trail 100 metres from the park. You can ride from Wangaratta to Bright if you wish. We found the park facilities to be first class with large sites, some with ensuite facilities. An excellent pool, camp kitchen and playground also featured. The office/shop stocks basic food items, ice creams etc as well as many local wines. The park is dog friendly, although our pooches stayed home for this trip as we explored to local area by bicycle. A ride to the local wineries is well worth the effort. A short bike ride into Bright (6km) finds many cafes and eateries. Plenty to see and do all year round. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money. Manager's name is Sue and Gary Featherstone. We are not OzParks members, but were charged $23.50 for the first night (Fri) and $20 each for Sat & Sun nights, 2A powered site - cannot complain about that. Park overlooks Lake King, which was very low (<5%) due to the drought - still picturesque, though. Amenities were very clean, although the changing/drying area was not separated from the shower so got wet. This is not a large park, and has cabins, permanent/private on-site caravan sites (very few being used) and some tourist sites - it may pay to book ahead. Most sites are gently sloping, but of good size. Unfortunately, due to the ongoing drought, the lawns are poor and most sites are basically on dust. There are 2 electric (pay) BBQ's in the grounds, but these appear not to be used because there are 2 free gas BBQ's in the camp kitchen area, which is clean, well lit and has sufficient seats and tables. The park grounds slope gently towards Lake King, and should not be a safety concern for watchful parents. There is a good playground in the adjacent park, and local swimming pool next door, but this is only open in warmer months. Also adjacent are tennis courts, bowling green and golf course. The main street of Rutherglen is only a short walk away. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Great little site in beautiful quiet setting adjacent to Lake King, which has wildlife galore. Large shady trees on grass sites (well it would be grass if it ever rained here!). Sites are not really well defined which adds to the character of the place as people put their vans in the best position to take advantage of the views over the lake. Managers are really helpful and keep the place spotlessly clean. Amenities are similar - top class. Public swimming pool next door, centre of Rutherglen about 200m away and many wineries in area. Try Tuilleries for excellent a la carte dining only 5 mins walk away. Good value for money at $20 2 adults.
Likes: Likes - setting, friendly managers, cleanliness, quiet.

The park has improved a lot since our last stay in 2004, the grounds are well kept and there are a lot of lovely shady sites. All the old caravans have been removed and there is now only powered sites and cabins and a large grassy area down by the river for unpowered sites. Both amenities block are clean and well maintained. The permanent sites are kept tidy and down the end of the park away from tourist area. The management and staff are very friendly and I strongly recommend this park to anyone looking for a nice quiet relaxing weekend away or overnight stay. We had a lovely stay and were very impressed with this park. We hired an overnight van at this park. We pulled in late and we'd prepaid. Everything inside was awful. The floor was ingrained with grease and the roof in the bedroom area appeared to be smeared with blood. Everything was covered in a thick coating of dust and the seats were black with filth. The windows did not close and the curtains were torn and filthy. The divider between the 'bedroom' and the living area was a dirty sheet. Right outside the bedroom was a huge filthy stinking sewer. The manager appeared to have wired it himself and there was cable open under the bed and in the cupboards. There were exposed broken light fittings with no globes. The list goes on but basically it was the worst I've ever seen. I can accept old in budget accommodation but this was appalling. Bad staff response to complaints, poor value for money ($40 2A per night). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor.
Likes: Location near river.

We have stayed at this park on a number of occasions over the last few years. This year we stayed February, and May on our return trip. From a green and fresh park overlooking a pleasant lake, this park has become a drought ravaged area overlooking a dried out dirt bowl. This has been sad to see and brings with some inherent dangers such as dead tress and others with dead limbs overhanging van sites. Despite it problems the park is well run and management is welcoming. We will stay again. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($25 2A powered).

A number of units were being installed in the park when we were there, however neither the workmen nor the building disturbed us. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Good playground in good condition. Clean pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Apart from passing trains it was very quiet, however the park was nowhere near full during our overnight midweek stay.
Dislikes: The main rail line runs next to the park and not far from the closest van sites. It sounded as if one freight train was coming right through our van in the early hours of the morning, it was very loud. The park itself is also very open to the general public and it did not feel secure in that respect. People in a nearby van stated that they had meat stolen from their annexe fridge overnight. Probably would not stay here again simply because of the train noise.
Parking: Park entry is off the road and there were no parking problems however it was very quiet while we were there.
Local Information: Had an evening meal at the Shepparton RSL, the meal was pretty lousy quality with very small portions and stale vegetables, it was not value for money, would never eat there again.
Roads: Main Melbourne/Shepparton highway passes caravan park and the road is in very good condition.

Reception was pleasant and we had a very nice site on the water's edge overlooking the lake. Amenities generally good in the block near us, with plentiful hot water, paper towels supplied but no soap. Showers were a little small and tired, with changing space but no curtain or mat, and no mop supplied. No “hoonery” encountered, very quiet at night. A train passed through at 4.10am, shaking the van, but otherwise railway noise was not a problem. Excellent TV and mobile phone reception. Lakelands Caravan Park, Tallangatta
Rang the caravan park 3 times, got answering machine, must have been too busy telemarketing to talk to tourists. Left mobile number but never returned my call. Called into the park anyway when we passed through Tallangatta, nobody in office, rang bell for service but no response. Tried several times but in the end we did a U turn and moved to a BIG4. Our impression of Lakelands is that it's seedy, rundown, untidy, and the owner/manager doesn't really give a toss. There are far better alternative caravan parks in this area.

Located about 1 km before Whitfield on the left hand side heading from Wangaratta. Ph: 03 5729 8205.
Went back to Gentle Annie with a couple of friends so decided to update report. Hard to rate this site by numbers as numbers tend to relate to facilities and this site hasn't many of them. Against this the setting and ambience would rate it amongst the highest. The sites this time had some grass, which made it better, but what really made it was the manager who is a really friendly and helpful bloke. He provided us with a trailer load of wood and a large drum for a campfire. All for free! No change to facilities - basic and old but spotlessly clean and heaps of hot water. The surrounding area is beautiful mountain country, well worth exploring. A good place for 3 or 4 days for a relaxing weekend in great surroundings. Cheap as chips at $17/night powered 2A.

A very basic campground in a very good setting, beside the King River with fishing, swimming holes and a few rapids for the kids to play in. Sites were not defined, and due to the drought were all covered in dead grass. Mature trees offer shade in most areas. Limited power points and even more limited water points (take long hoses!). Amenities were very old but spotlessly clean so age didn't really matter. Basic BBQ area, open fires welcome. Owner was very friendly as were all the locals staying there. Plenty of wild life in a quiet tranquil setting. We would return for a relaxing weekend. There are wineries galore within a short distance. If you do go - a must is dinner at nearby Renaldo's restaurant - superb! Good value, clean honest and basic campground in a beautiful part of Victoria.

Well maintained park. The park is very small and caters mainly for the onsite cabin trade - having only eight casual sites. Any traveller with a large rig - 13m or more - would find it a hard place to manoeuvre round the cabins. The grounds however are nicely kept and the amenity block was clean. The owner does not live on site and staff fall a bit short of being helpful. While we were there the office was hardly open. Management was friendly. A refundable key fee is charged. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($22 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good and there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Dogs on leash.

Average management, friendly management. Reasonable value for money; $30 per night for a powered site. Very good amenities, were clean. Toilet blocks would not cope in peak season. Average sites, lighting at night was adequate, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, rec room, dump point, van parking by management. Park atmosphere was okay, family-friendly park. Clean electric bbq. Good playground. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, the park was well maintained.
Likes: Right on the Murray river. Good base for families with tennis courts, small putting pitch,(right on the river!). Large park with some river sites but mostly rather small. Reasonable price in low season but perhaps try the Mulwala parks to see if they are better.
Dislikes: Friends stayed in the units and they are expensive and run down.
Parking: Marked as you drive in.
Added Touches: Ask for a river view on E block if you like the water views.
Local Information: Try a lunchtime cruise on the lake. $22 including lunch for 2 hours, great value!
