Stayed 8 nights, powered site $24.30 per night with Top Tourist discount. Security entry. Very friendly and helpful (Managers, Tania and Mark, with staff Anne and Peter). Pets welcome. We had initially booked in for 3 nights but ended up staying for 8. We had stayed here for one night 4 years ago and vowed to one day return. And we were not disappointed. It is still a large spotless park with pristine amenities block which looked as if it had just been totally renovated as it was in as new condition. Each shower was segregated so you did not wash in next-door's water. Also a separate drying area. Soap provided and ventilation was good. Dump point. Good night lighting. Some drive through sites. All sites large. Sullage provided but we were asked to put our grey water under the trees which with the drought made good sense. Our site, No. 10, was a long wide site under trees, lakeside. As we had a few days of rain we were very happy with the wood-chipped site. The water sank underneath and the chips dried very quickly. Good clean camp kitchen. Playground but no pool. Cabins throughout the park. No permanents. We saw an echidna walk along the beach so I was able to take some nice photos. Also lots of pelicans. This is a great park for any length of time and we would happily come back again. Many lovely drives around the Coorong area, especially around Lake Albert which takes you to Narrung and Raukkan from where the little church on our $50 has been photographed. We had an excellent pizza and roast dinner at the restaurant over the road. This park is highly recommend and a favourite of ours. Would not recommend the bakery in Meningue – we had coffee there, my cup was dirty. Purchased some bread which had been packaged in plastic but when I got to the car I saw it had mould, so returned it. The bakery could use the services of the caravan park excellent cleaning staff to show them how cleaning should be done. Would love to return to this park again.

Mount Gambier Information

Lady Nelson Discovery Centre. The Blue Lake: With average depths of 80 metres the lake contains 36,000 million litres (ML). Being the source of water to the city 3,700 ML is pumped annually from the lake into holding tanks which gravity feed water to the city and surrounds. Blue Lake and the Crater Lakes area is a significant site within the region's Volcanoes Discovery Trail. A recent city development is the Blue Lake Reception Centre which provides public facilities and a comprehensive interpretation of the volcanic area. Tours down near the surface of Blue Lake operate from the Reception Centre. The 3.6 km road and walking track around the circumference of the lake provide access to many viewing points, the most popular being the tunnel beneath the road between the Blue Lake and the Leg of Mutton Lake. An information sheet on the Blue Lake is available from "The Lady Nelson" Visitor Centre (Ph: 08 8724 9750) and the Department of Water, Land & Biodiversity Conservation.

Likes: Only the location.
Dislikes: Majority of sites are very uneven so with a fifth wheeler we found it difficult to be able to unhitch. Although we had booked in advance after ensuring they could accommodate our fifth wheeler upon arrival they had blocked off a large section of the park for an A-vaners club which had the only large flat sites. We had to try other sites but eventually argued with them that we had as much right as the club (nothing against the club of course) to these sites as we had booked in advance so either refund us or give us a large site. They gave us a large site eventually but it was still very unlevel and sloped downhill. Jumping pillow was unfenced, uncovered and very dirty. Amenities were old and average cleanliness, not enough and also ran out of hot water regularly. Security gate key pads continually had problems and took many attempts to open.

Very good park, well located in the town and well sited for trips in the region. Management is friendly, welcoming and helpful. Park is large and sites are a mixture of slabs and grass. Sites are large and level. Method is pick your own. There are a number of amenity blocks throughout the park. Amenities were clean but the one in our area struggled to cope with the numbers a couple of times during our stay. Golf course next door. Would stay again and the park is suitable for any length of stay. It is reasonable value for money but like many parks has a number of extras that are never going to be used by the majority of travellers but which add to the costs. Likes: Close to attractions & walking trails, all roads in park are sealed, well watered grassy sites.

This is a high-class park - everything works well. Plenty of grassy, shady, un-numbered sites, so choose your own. Amenities in various locations are never far away, but the power and water require long leads to some sites. Some sites are not level side to side so make sure you have a few wooden blocks to hand. $24.50 for 2A powered seems good value.
Likes: Location right at lake. There is a walk track right around the lake.

Kalganyi Holiday Park, Mount Gambier
Situated approx 2km from town centre on the main road to Penola. Park is on corner of Penola Road & Bishop Road. Ph:08 8723 0220 or 1800 651 746. Top Tourist member. Pets at manager's discretion.
Manager's name is Hayley & Damien Burns, Ray & Robyn Crees. As we arrived fairly early the manager told us our ensuite had not been cleaned yet but that this would be done shortly. Manager turned up, said it actually had been cleaned, it just needed sweeping the floor. We checked the ensuite and it was dirty, it had not been cleaned. We mentioned this to one of the other managers and were told it would be cleaned, but nothing happened, so we had to clean it ourselves. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($32 2A per night, ensuite, off-peak season). Ensuite cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities. Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. Clean heated pool is open to the sun, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: The park has lots of large mature trees for shade and has grass sites, which is a bit of a novelty with the drought we're having..
Dislikes: Some of the ensuite sites are very hard to get into. Other vanners may have to move their cars for you to get onto the site.
Local Information: Great town to visit, especially the Blue Lake and the various sinkholes and gardens. Close also to Port Macdonnell, the cray fish capital of SA.

Large park located on terraced hillside. Well maintained with grassed and tree areas. All powered sites have separate en-suites. The lay-out for the powered sites consists of two sites located next to each other with just enough space between for an annex. The tow vehicle parking area is in front of the van. Outside BBQ area is undercover but is fair distance from some of the sites. Park is in a good location for enjoying the township.

Manager's name is Pat and Will. Lovely park, very green and well maintained. All sites are grassed. Good sized dog paddock to exercise animals. Be aware that whilst some caravan parks have dog rules and don't enforce them these guys do enforce them which is good as they are very open about this upfront. Manager's name is Will, Pat & Sandy. Very nice park, well worth staying at. I would have rated this park "4" if the amenities block had been a bit better. The park grounds are exceptionally well maintained - lots of trees, lush green, cut grassed areas. Attractive flower beds add to the beauty of the park. Dogs are permitted with prior approval. There is zero tolerance of a dog being off lead at any time other than inside the dog paddock. The dog paddock is a big area, fenced but no gate, for dogs to walk/run off lead. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($21.60 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, large sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, car wash, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Pets at manager's discretion, zero tolerance to dogs off leash unless in the dog paddock Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The large unpowered site area gives the feel of being in parklands - well cut, green grass and lots of trees (no lighting in that area). All sites are drive-through. Open space and trees in the un-powered site area - just lovely, with lots of birds. Dog paddock was a great place to exercise the dog. A bin was provided in the paddock for dog poo bags. Area kept very clean by those using it.
Dislikes: Amenities block needs a good "spring clean", around the ceiling/window areas. When all showers in use the ladies was like a sauna, impossible to see in the mirrors. Lots of shade in the un-powered area but in warm weather there is not enough shade for all of the drive-through powered sites
Parking: Parking lane available
Added Touches: Camp fire area (2) adjacent to the barbeque / camp kitchen. Firewood was supplied.
Local Information: For those that like walking - suggest a visit to Mt Schank, with a walk to the top and around the rim. Also the walks around Blue Lake, Valley Lake and to the Tower are well worthwhile. Some walks are very steep but worth the effort.
Roads: Good roads

We think this is a lovely little park, small and intimate and in a lovely location (right on a beach). Sites are reasonably well spaced, and each bay (of two sites) is nestled into the foreshore foliage, which is appealing and a windbreak. Most sites have cement slabs, but there is a lot of green grass throughout the park. There are minimal facilities (an ablution block, which is clean but a bit dated), a camp kitchen, and a small laundry. The laundry facilities are free - yes, truly. All sites are level. The park is located on a busy road but there was no noise which bothered us. The price we paid was $24 a day, which was reasonable value. The nearby town has a nice cafe and restaurant and a good hotel for meals. The general store is well stocked. The region has some nice scenic coastal drives, and Mt Gambier is only a 20 minute drive away. We would come back and spend a week here, very happily.

We found this park suited our needs perfectly. We had booked to stay 4 nights and ended up staying for 10 nights. Roomy and clean amenities (the showers had curtains to keep the change area floor dry), plenty of space to spread out on the well grassed sites. No dust here, which makes a welcome change in these times of drought. Friendly management also made the difference as well. We travel with 2 pooches and they were made as welcome as we were. The park is a short walk to all facilities in the town, but we chose to drive to the dog-friendly Long Beach. Here you drive onto the beach, park and let the dogs out. No four wheel drive required. Late February is the time to visit Robe, with warm weather, crayfish in season and plenty of day trips to take. A very nice park to visit for a few days or longer.

Beautiful heritage listed park situated beside a lake 1km from town centre. The whole park is green grass with tarred roads throughout. Average size sites, amenities had piped music and were in good condition - although it appeared not to have a proper clean each day, only a general tidy up. Soap, paper towel and hand dryers provided in amenities. Basic playground mainly suited to small children. Camp kitchen with free BBQ's. Friendly management. TV reception not the best, could not pick up ABC at all and the other channels had static, but could see them. The other parks in town are situated right on the beachfront, so they cop all the wind. This park is protected from the ocean winds. Overall, a very nice and comfortable park to stay at. $32.40 per night 2A 2C. Friendly management. Sites were level, lighting at night was adequate. Laundry, good camp kitchen. Good atmosphere to park, quiet, open and roomy park. Clean freee UC gas bbq. Basic playground, condition okay. The park was well maintained.
Date 04/2006. Park Rating 3.5: Suitable for a few days.

Friendly staff. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($38 2A per night powered). We paid peak rates as we visited this park in school holiday time. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point Family/friendly atmosphere. Electric bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Heated pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: We stayed in peak time and the amenities were cleaned 3 times a day and were very clean. Unfortunately the morning clean was at an inconvenient time.
Dislikes: We were not asked when we booked in what size our van was and when we got to the park with the van hard up against the back boundary, our draw bar was on the (rather narrow) road by about 18 inches. Lucky we had a corner site and put the van in sideways. We do not have a huge van. The sites are wide enough to have a van, annex and park a car but are not deep enough. Not enough washing machines and lines at peak times.
Parking: Plenty of space to park about three vans when booking in without blocking the road.
Local Information: Close to Robe but not right in the town. Walk across the road to the beach, which is very nice. Nice walk along the cliff path towards the town.

Sea Vu Caravan Park, Robe
Park is the closest to the town 1 Squire Street, well sign posted. Ph: 08 8768 2273. Family Parks member. Pets at manager's discretion.
Manager's name is G & H Herbert. With discount price was $24 per night. We stayed on a weekend and beachfront sites were full. The park is tiered, we were able to choose a site away from beach but in hindsight not the easiest to get to the amenity block, it is quite a hike up the ramp from the lower sites. Staff were friendly but not helpful. Amenity block is clean and spacious, water pressure and heat is inadequate when all showers are in use. Laundry, rec room and camp kitchen is excellent. Park would be claustrophobic when busy. Tourist information building in town is top class, staff is extremely helpful, there is free internet use. Many good eating places in town specially the fish and chip shop on the corner of the main street and Squire Street. Although this park is closer to the town centre we would try one of the other parks next time.
