American River Camping Ground, American River
Once off the ferry travel on the Kingscote Road. After about 25km turn right at American River turnoff. Campground is about 10km along the road.
Manager's name is Brenton. This camping ground was breath of fresh air after the crowdedness of Kingscotte. Quite big sites suitable for a caravan. No power. Choose your own. Shower and toilet block was cleaned every day and had hot water and soap dispensers. 3 minute showers and then the water would cut out. The setting was right on the river. Windy on the first day but after that fairly calm. River not suitable for swimming but good for fishing. We loved staying here and will stay again next time. Very friendly staff. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($15 A3 C1 per night unpowered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, large sites. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dogs on leash. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Quite and big in a beautiful setting. Great amenities and excellent value.
Dislikes: No tap for cooking or dishes. Possibly due to the drought though.
Added Touches: The caretaker introduced himself and was very friendly
Local Information: American river has a shop and a pub and the best children's playground on the whole of Kangaroo Island. Has a popular fishing pier, jetty and boat launching ramp.
Roads: Great Roads

Crabbing was the go here but no nets for hire. Only few tourist sites and could only get two nights there. Average park with lots of permanents. Excellent ablution. Average staff friendliness. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Manager's name is Ric & Elaine O'Brien. In two sections with a creek down the middle. We stayed at an en suite site and it was amongst all permanents. We arrived on a Saturday and it was crowded and noisy. Most permanents left on Sunday and the remaining two nights were very quiet. Mostly permanents, with some spots on the other side of the creek for travellers. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night, ensuite, off-peak season). Inadequate number of tourist sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded. Claustrophobic park, too many permanents. No pool. Suitable for few days.

Nice neat and tidy park and northern end of Yorke Penninsula. Large park divided by deep gully but 90% permanents and annuals. We had an en-suite and found reasonable value for money. Friendly management, management was helpful. Average amenities, were in good condition. Quiet, shady park, suitable for a week or more, the park was well maintained.
Likes: Raking for crabs was a new experience for us. Managers happily lent equipment.
Added Touches: Crab cooking and cleaning facilities available.
Local Information: Ardrossan has the best bakery that we encountered in 4 months travelling! There is a golf course located adjacent to the park.
Roads: Good.

Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Likes: Managers where great. Although there is no pool, the park is located on the beach. Everything was cleaned thou-rally. Close to most attractions. Found it to be a great base camp. The manager would walk the park ground at regular intervals, making it feel safe. Helpful with ferry booking and provided a discount for ferry.
Dislikes: We found the town center was distant (3km away).
Added Touches: Bus to town when asked for. Discount coupons available. Fish cleaning area. Fish freezing service.
Local Information: Great fishing nearby. Great pub meals.
Roads: Road good, no shoulders, don't have to leave bitumen to pass or overtake

We found this park to be adequate, stayed 2 nights in an unpowered site. Sites were very sandy/dirty but we are in a drought. Think the price is a bit expensive for an unpowered site. Were only 3 toilets and showers and while we did not find a problem with this I can see that it would be an issue in busier times - even though we were over whilst Kangaroo Island Cup was on. Staff friendly at check-in, had receipt from online/phone payment. 2 fridges were almost empty so for unpowered campers this was very useful. Good bbq area in general although found it a bit strange that the washing up area was separate and only one sink. Couple of times had to wait for others to do their dishes first. Either someone stole or cleaner was overzealous as our crumpets disappeared from freezer. They had signs up to label all food but no textas were provided so found this a bit odd. Also had signs everywhere for batteries not to be charged at power points due to fire hazard. Personally I find this hard to believe and paying $27/night think I should have been able to charge batteries in power points whilst in attendance at least. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($27 2A per night unpowered, peak period). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, good camp kitchen. Quiet, not enough shade. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Good bbq area and free bbqs. 2 fridges, both had plenty of room in them.
Dislikes: Separate area for dishes. Toilets very squishy, had to be careful not to get caught on hooks on back of toilet door. Can see that plenty of hooks in shower are useful but question the need for so many in such small toilets.

This was a very disappointing park. Throughout our stay the place was packed as it was peak time. We had some space because we did not require power, but the powered sites were very small with very little space to move around. There were clearly not enough amenities. 3 male and female showers and 3 male and female toilets with around 200 people requiring them at the same time of the day. In the morning before going out touring or on return. 1 washing machine was working during our stay. New management has just taken over, so possibly some changes for the better will occur during the year. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($41 A3 C1 per night unpowered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, small sites, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate taps close by. Poor laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. UC bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Not much. Good position to travel around the eastern half of Kangaroo Island
Dislikes: Small sites, no shade. Noisy at night, especially small children riding bikes and playing around amenities, but there was nowhere else to play. Publicity states it is close to a safe swimming beach but it is tidal and very weedy. We did not swim at this beach. Plenty of beautiful beaches but you have to drive to them
Local Information: Ozone pub was fantastic. Emu bay is a drive on beach and was fabulous. Lots of other natural attractions nearby or within 50km. Town pool next to the beach
Roads: Generally good roads on the island with one or two exceptions. Not all roads are bitumen but were safe for a 2WD car.

Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Report submitted by Keith Waldron.

Manager's name is Managers Harold & Chris. Its almost 12 months since we visited this area, were told by Adelaide friends new managers had improved park; a flash in the pan it would seem after first burst of promised enthusiasm. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, reasonable value for money ($19.50 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was inadequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Dislikes: Park once again was untidy, un mowed lawns, septic was on the nose, fish scrap bin was ready to walk by itself, hand basins, toilets and floors not touched in 6 days we were there. Manager seemed not to care that one person's dog ran around loose in the park, and another person's dog, in a kennel outside their van barked at every movement.
Local Information: Good local store, papers, post office, the best Hamburgers and chips we have ever tasted, great value and friendly little shop. Supermarket at Edithburgh has closed, so go prepared with provisions.
Roads: Good roads in all directions, although the Council could do a bit of work on the scenic drive, it's a bit juddery

Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade. UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground in poor condition. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: We were recommended to this park, very untidy with unkept grass and surrounds, overflowing bins, didn't set eyes on the manager once, even expensive cabins were surrounded by weeds, bloke does 2 jobs, it aint working!
Local Information: fishing at Wool Bay, Port Giles and Edithburgh, if you can get a day without wind
Roads: good roads

Change of management since we last stayed. Grass was ankle high around vans, bbq only cleaned once a week, van was not on site when we arrived, microwave in camp kitchen dirty, toilets and showers not fresh and clean, only wet mopped and musty. New manager has more than one job and doesn't seem that interested in the park. Deluxe cabin customer complained the spa wasn't working; he only replied he didn't know anything about it, didn't offer to have a look. Couple with children arrived late at night in foul weather, their van hadn't been pulled out either. Very disappointing after such excellent managers in the past. Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Price was lower than expected, reasonable value for money ($17.50 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. Dirty UC gas bbq, dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Suitable for a week or more
Parking: Alongside office
Added Touches: Sausage sizzle Thursday nights, didn't appeal due to condition of bbq.
Local Information: Good fishing, and nice day trips

Nice park, very quiet in the off-season and also rates are very good. Very friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($93 2A per week powered with Top Tourist discount). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Likes: Cost, and restful during off season. Close to other towns in the district.
Dislikes: Park lost it's much liked Caretaker and his wife during our stay, all because he asked for a 1% increase from the Minlaton Council for the next two years of his contract!
Parking: Parking area available
Added Touches: Free Sausage sizzle during certain months of the year. Good boat ramp at Edithburgh, ten minutes away. Fish cleaning area.
Local Information: Plenty of places to eat out, excellent meals at the Edithburgh Hotel. Good fishing in the area as a whole, but like many places now you are more likely to have good catches if you have a boat.

Corny Point Caravan Park, Corny Point
Easy to find, on the left as you drive into Corny Point. Ph: 08 8855 3368. Pets at manager's discretion.
Manager's name is Charlie & Jenelle Tooze. We stayed here the week prior to Easter. There is a 100 year old stone cottage on the property that is available for accommodation & they have an old windmill on site & the grounds are well maintained. The bathrooms have all been upgraded & tastefully decorated with pictures on the walls. Small extras like a seat in the amenities room is appreciated. Lighting is poor but does add to the country appeal. We stayed for three days but we didn't want to leave. Surf, bush walking, flora and fauna, all within easy car distances - if you are bored here you have major problems. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($20 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, good rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean bbq. Basic playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Openness; Country style setting yet close to beach - best of both worlds; Old stone buildings for camp kitchen & games room with old collectables surrounding walls and shelves, kangaroos & birdlife is abundant visiting the park. Sky channel TV available in games room
Dislikes: Bore water
Parking: Parking was really easy
Added Touches: Kids activities are available, however, we had no children with us. Was able to choose own site and take extra room as it was in a quiet period.
Local Information: Corny Point is very handy to many of the great scenic drives. One of the best coast lines you will see! Yorke Peninsula is a beautiful region especially towards the end of the foot and the western side. The Innes National Park has some great walking tracks, plenty of lighthouses for the nautical buffs, there is a huge wind farm and great viewing area. The scenery is on the scale of the Great Ocean Road in many parts. Lots of dirt roads to get to many scenic areas but ok for cars as well as four wheel drives
Roads: Main roads on Yorke Peninsula are bitumen but there are many dirt roads however, most of them are of good quality

Manager Charlie. The advertisement for this park in the Yorke Peninsula Visitor information guide is very misleading as it shows a picture of the beach which leads one to think that the park is right on the beach whereas in fact it is a brisk 10 minute walk. This is a small park suitable for a couple of days R&R. Would stay again. The gents amenities has recently been upgraded and was excellent, the ladies was in the process of being done. The camp kitchen was clean but very basic. Tap water was from a bore but there was plenty of rain water available for drinking. There were a few permanents and also a large number of onsite vans but these were well away from the powered sites. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($17 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, good rec room, kiosk, disabled facilities. Peaceful, open and roomy, plenty of shade, family-friendly atmosphere. Clean free gas bbq, in congenial UC bbq area, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for families, a well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Added Touches: Fish cleaning table. Boat launching available by tractor.
Local Information: Fishing and surfing area. Beautiful coastal drives.
Roads: Full tar but a bit bumpy in places.
Date 09/2006. Park Rating 2.5: Suitable for a few days.

Good sized blocks, nice grass sites,$99 a week special!! Fish and Squid plentiful off the jetty in walking distance and a great roast at nearby Coobowie. Lots of roos and rabbits in the park. Ablutions could do with additional clean when the park is so full. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Good park with large level sites. A large park with a number of annuals but plenty of tourist sites. Only drawback is that there are far too few amenities. Western Kangaroo Island Caravan Park & Wildlife Reserve, Flinders Chase
Western end of South Coast Road on Kangaroo Island. Drive towards Flinders Chase National Park and park is on the right before you enter park, was easy to find, adequate signage. Ph: 08 8559 7201. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is Ty Beckwith. We had seen this park on a previous visit to Kangaroo Island and wanted to stay there as we were campers and it is close to a lot of attractions on this end of the island. EG: Flinders Chase National Park, Cape Borda lighthouse, etc. Really enjoyed the atmosphere at the park, quiet and spacious where we were - unpowered. Plenty of animals around, they have a koala walk and also a lagoon walk. Only did both at end of visit and liked them both. Saw 1 koala, lots of wallabies and an echidna on Koala Walk. Over at the lagoon there were some black swans and other waterbirds, one big roo. Take note - fence here is electric but wasn't signposted, boyfriend touched it and was very surprised to get a jolt. Lagoon area looked nice. Average staff friendliness. Price was as expected, good value for money ($20 2A per night unpowered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, good camp kitchen. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Likes: Koala Walk and Lagoon Walk, amount of wildlife around. Park seemed well spread out and was therefore relaxing place to be. Had a good undercover/indoor free bbq area and had enough room in fridge for our food. Plenty of tables undercover. Washing up area was a bit squeezy as right near fridge door, kitchen was a bit small if there were any more than a couple of people in there at a time but had good facilities. Toaster, kettle, microwave, stove, bbqs, etc.
Dislikes: Had to wait a few times for shower/toilet as they are in together, near our sites there were 4 to share amongst campers/camper vans but there was another block further away. Looked like they may be doing some work to put more in. What I did not like was that when I arrived they could not find my receipt for online/phone booking and had not posted me one. Therefore I was basically asked by Ty, "How do we know you've paid?" Had to get on their internet and show them my payment online on my credit card statement. Think their record keeping needs a bit of work, someone had put in the book that I'd enquired but then hadn't completed entry that I'd paid for one night and one night was owing.
Local Information: I would just like to make people aware that there is no autogas on this end of the island. At the time only available at Kingscote and Penneshaw. After being told by National Parks staff that Vivonne Bay & Kangaroo Island Wilderness Lodge had gas we continued our sightseeing, only to find out when we needed to fill up that neither of them sell autogas. We very nearly ran out and had to miss attractions on last day in an attempt to drive straight through to Kingscote and just made it with 1 litre to spare. This was stressful and would have been avoided if we had been informed correctly. Tourism info only states this on about last page of their brochure.

Turn left at roundabout in centre of town on main road in, follow signs along river bank drive. Approximately 3 km drive to park.
Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected ($21.30 2A, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, large sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (past noon), kiosk, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Likes: Late check out if not at busy time. First time I had seen a sharps container in bathroom, BBQ now free.
Dislikes: dirt roads, some showers had pressure problems, some showers and toilets locked by management in quiet times. We were sited amongst annuals sites. No soap in toilets, lighting poor where we were sited, other parts of park was ok.
Parking: plenty in front of office

Fair size park - combination of cabins, permanent/private caravan sites, about 20 powered sites and a large camping area. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Large amenities block, but most toilets and showers had doors locked - it appears they open facilities depending upon demand. There was some variation in water pressure in the showers, but not too bad - may be worse if all facilities in use. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Tourist area was reasonably grassed considering the water restrictions. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, kiosk. Quiet, open and roomy, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq ($1), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Pool was closed (too cold) but was clean, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Kadina Caravan Park, Kadina
Lindsay Terrace. Ph: 08 8821 2259.
Not the easiest place to find. Look for a couple of small signs in the town. This park is very much tuned to permanents with only a few tourist sites. Flat sites with plenty of night lighting. At $27 for two adults very much overpriced. Limited rubbish bins. The welcome was quite friendly. Water was OK. The showers and toilets are old but OK even if the toilet paper is the thinnest I have seen in 10 years of caravanning. The park is reasonably protected from traffic noise but the number of permanent structures is off putting for a tourist. The saving grace for the park is that it is located in a nice size town with most facilities available and within a couple of hours of Adelaide. We would not stay again. OK for an overnight stay but I think neighbouring towns of Moonta and Wallaroo would provide competitive options.

Situated around 30km south of Adelaide this park is well placed for travellers wishing to base themselves on the Fleurieu Peninsular. Surrounded by vineyards and with around 160 lawned and shaded sites this is a great park in a pretty town in an famous wine producing area. It has about 15 en-suite units servicing over 60 sites, a large campers kitchen, 2 tennis courts, a pool and a large ornamental lake. The lake, like the lawns, are suffering from the drought and the resulting water restrictions but the park is still attractive. While well shaded this does impact on the lawn coverage and some sites are a little bare. The office staff displayed average friendliness although maintenance staff were better. There are some permanents down the back. Holiday periods and the grape harvest around March are times to avoid in this area. This is a quiet park with excellent facilities in pleasant surroundings and the surrounding area warrants a stay of at least a week. Many people had dogs and this is through arrangement with the manager. Both the dogs and their owners were very well behaved. We were told that this is the best park in Adelaide for people travelling with dogs. The one way Southern Expressway will get you into Adelaide quickly on weekday mornings and home again in the afternoon. Ask in the office about this unique facility or visit the wonderful Visitors Centre as you enter McLaren Vale township. With the Top Tourist discount an en-suite site cost around $28 per night which is good value.

This is a very nice, well maintained caravan park. It is quite pricey if you use the ensuite option but it is worth it as long as your toilet doesn't block up like ours did. Dogs are allowed here too. Now for the negatives. They have a policy of no noise after 10pm, which is not a problem but the way they police it is unbelievable. At 10pm on the dot the staff member starts his rounds. He tells everyone they have to be quiet and this means no talking allowed. Two of us were sitting outside our caravan having a quiet drink and a chat and we were told we had to stop talking as it could disturb others. That was it we had to go inside our van and be quiet. We had no music playing, nothing, just quietly chatting. In the van next to ours a man snored all night for the whole 3 nights we were there and kept everyone awake around us. Go figure! Also this staff member spent a lot of time following children to see if they might do something wrong. It got to the point my 3 children would not go to the pool because they were scared of him. It's a nice park but it is not relaxing, he watches everyone, but especially the kids. My kids ended up sitting inside the van watching tv because he made the holiday unbearable for them. If you have no kids and go to bed before 10pm and don't talk you might enjoy this park.

UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

Manager Chris & Jane. On arrival at the park at 10.05 am the office was closed due to management cleaning cabins. The management seem to be doing everything themselves, ie. manning the office as well as all the cleaning which means that customer service is therefore suffering. BBQs are currently free but management have a notice to the effect that if guests do not clean up after themselves then a charge would be introduced. Average staff friendliness, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($19 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by, good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, secure entry, van parking. Quiet, open and roomy, plenty of shade, family-friendly atmosphere. No permanents. Pets at manager's discretion. Dirty gas bbq some $1/some free, in congenial UC area, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for families, a well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Having to search for management upon arrival at the park. The office should be manned or there should be a calling system, not relying on guests having to search the park for them.
Parking: Yes in car park outside the boom gate.
Added Touches: Fish cleaning table
Local Information: Innes National Park, surfing and fishing.
Roads: Full width bitumen but again quite bumpy in places.
Park Rating 3: Suitable for a few days.

Middleton Caravan Park, Middleton
Right on the main road through Middleton, just before the turn off to Strathalbyn if you are travelling east. Ph: 08 8555 1144. Manager's name is Keith and Trish Dommenz. This is a small park and during the peak times you will need to book ahead. Outside school holidays you should be fine. The park is well kept with grassed sites that are watered and mown before occupation. Nice camp kitchen with well maintained amenities. Good showers which could be stretched in peak times. The manager couple are very friendly and helpful. Roads are gravel but well maintained. Sites are tight for larger rigs. The town is between Victor Harbor and Goolwa which are both worth a visit. In season, the Goolwa cockles are worth a dig on the beach (4x4 territory). You can drive to the sad Murray Mouth along this beach. In summary, good value, good facilities, small, but extremely friendly. The pub in Middleton was full on the Saturday night and put on a tasty, well priced snitzel.

Likes: Quiet park close to town amenities. Were there on long weekend in March but there was plenty of room and the amenities coped well. Park opposite with play-ground for children and under-cover BBQs, all on the shore of lake Alexandrina. Lake good for children - shallow and protected.
Parking: There is a small parking area while waiting to book in but it would only hold a couple of rigs at a time.

Moonta Bay Caravan Park, Moonta
Delightful, unspoiled coastal town (pop.3000), half way up the west coast of Spencer Gulf, and about 2 hours from Adelaide. Bottom end of Bay Road, turn right at side of Motel, just before the road goes down to the jetty. Entrance to park is about 50 metres on left. Well signposted. Manager's name is Georgina. Very unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site. Kiosk, secure entry. Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade. Clean UC electric bbq (pay), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for families.
Dislikes: Quoted price suddenly didn't apply to our 25ft caravan. Asked for a week, was able to get 6 days only. Showers always muddy owing to lack of paths and un-grassed dirt outside amenities. Was told they couldn't supply a mop because of 'workcover issues'. Given hassle over rent relief form because, 'if they signed it with the words - residential address - on it they would be liable for providing indefinite accommodation.' (Go figure).
Local Information: Liked town/region. Bad TV reception even using cable provided. Mobile phone reception - Good. Nearby Pt Hughes Tavern provided good lunch at decent price, and magnificent views over the gulf.

A good park that with a bit of TLC could be an excellent one. The park is situated on two levels. The lower level is beachfront with lovely outlooks but sites are cramped and really exposed to the prevailing winds. The upper level doesn't have the same outlook but is sheltered with larger sites. Management is OK. Amenities are adequate and clean. The upper level sites are large but could do with some tidying up. Average value for money at $28 per night, 2A powered site (school holiday rate). Good value outside school holidays.

Large two-tiered park situated on the foreshore at Moonta Bay. Very busy park (especially the weekend we were there) with most sites permanent vans that appeared to be weekenders. Sites on the small side with some grass coverage, the rest sand. Small amenities that would not cope in peak periods. Low water pressure in the showers. Soap and dryers in amenities. Free electric BBQs that are undercover. Pets allowed on leash. Assistance to site was a complete waste of time. Not a lot of room to park cars on site. Average playground situated on top level of park, therefore a long way away for those on the bottom level. When busy, the park has a claustrophobic feel to it, also lack of privacy from people walking between sites. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($28.80 2A 2C per night powered). Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Noisy, claustrophobic park, family/friendly atmosphere. No pool.
Dislikes: Too many permanent vans, but at least they were all well looked after and neat and tidy. Obviously a weekend spot for people from Adelaide.

A most delightful park, right on the beach. Our first trip away after returning to caravanning following a layoff of about 20 years, could not have asked for a better place to make a comeback. Likes: The bed linen, towels, cutlery and crockery all very clean
Dislikes: Although we didn't expect much in a "basic" cabin, the air conditioner was too noisy to use, the TV was shot, couldn't alter colour, light and contrast gave up trying to view anything, the exhaust fan in the bathroom didn't work and everything was still fogged up an hour after use, lack of power points, had to unplug microwave or kettle to use toaster etc. Young group came in late at night, in the cabin next to us, more a couple of hours later, rang office about the noise got recorded message, "no noise after 10 pm" doesn't mean anything, had to go and ask them to keep it down a bit, risky.
Parking: Small bay, would be chaos in peak periods
Local Information: Very pretty area, close to Goolwa etc. Couple of good local hotels for excellent value meals, The Royal was great, nice and clean, lovely meals, very friendly staff.

Manager's name is Amo & Kate. This park could be made into a top place with some very simple and basic changes. Mainly management & staff training. Be careful where you park especially if you have a big van. The small streets within the park are one way and the road is not very wide. This makes it difficult in some spots to manoeuvre and hitch up etc (you block the road off). A lot of the sites are unlevel, again an easy to fix problem but makes life hard when your chairs and table are unstable for a few days. Unfriendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money. The price we paid was $58 for 2A for two nights with club membership; was a bit steep & $9 per night for our 8 yo granddaughter. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, kiosk, secure entry, van parking. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. No pets allowed. UC bbq (pay), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to most tourism spots. Great for kids and being school holidays there was a lot to do.
Dislikes: Amenities only cleaned once a day & this is not sufficient for a family park. Staff went "speeding" past often enough on their ride on buggies but failed to check the amenities on the way past. Staff unfriendly to adults & even children complained of the staff being grumpy when they went to the kiosk. I actually felt like I was intruding; the day we booked in there was no welcome. There is no camp kitchen & only one sink for the campers to wash their dishes & there was always a queue after meals. Also the positioning of the sink - under the windows to the toilets, you also had to dodge people in busy times queuing to wash their dishes to go to the toilet. There are no bins provided around the park only two large dumpster bins some distance away. These were over flowing for two days we were there. They also do not recycle the waste which frustrated me.
Parking: Space ok when we arrived. They also have a parking bay for when it's really busy but it's on the wrong side of the road for checking in.
Local Information: Lots of great local attractions; great for any age and something for everyone!

Manager's name is Amo & Kate. If you want somewhere to relax by the sea in peace and quiet, do not come on long weekends or school holidays. Even tho the rules state, no noise after 10pm, noise still comes from people who gather in groups, which can sometimes last until 1am. It is especially noisy when tent city sets up next to you and you can hear them change their mind. To make complaints, you have to go see the night manager because if complaints are made during the day, nothing is done. I have been coming here for 35yrs and my wife has been coming down here even longer and we both have noticed since the current managers have been here that the park is slowly going downhill. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: In the off season and between school holidays, it is very quiet and peaceful, especially down near the front.
Dislikes: On long weekends and school holidays, the park is packed out, very noisy and the rules are not adhered too. When the local surf lifesaving club have their Saturday night music event on, do not expect to get to sleep till after 1am, especially if you are down near the front as all you will hear is, thud thud thud of the music.
Parking: There is only room for one car and van at a time, the rest block the access into the park.
Local Information: Great sea views, plenty of local attractions to see.

$35 per day in January plus an extra $2 per day if you have an air-conditioned van. $2 extra per day if you have more than one car. This is for a "beachfront" site where you aren't even adjacent to the beach. Average management. Good amenities, were clean, were in good condition. Good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, security entry to park. Poor atmosphere to park, shady park. No Pets of any sort allowed, not even a budgie. Clean UC bbq. Basic playground, condition okay. The park was well maintained.
Likes: The lawn and shady areas.
Dislikes: The staff are unfriendly, particularly the managers. A feeling of being under constant surveillance as there are drive-by patrols at least every half hour throughout the park. Many rules to adhere to, the strictest run caravan park we have ever stayed in. A religious group walked around the park every morning singing, shaking their tambourines & banging on a drum and generally harassing people into joining their activities.

Manager's name is Chris & Roger. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($35 2A per night, ensuite, peak season). Parking: Enough for several vans in front of office

Dog friendly even during the peak times. This site is about location, location, location. It is situated in the small township directly onto the water-front with access to a reasonable beach and swimming area and a short walk to the jetty for fishing. The township is tidy and clean consisting of two shops and a pub. The caravan park is small with very compact sites with little space between vans. Highly patronised by families with small children during the school holidays. The ablution bock, which was nicely presented, struggled to cope with large numbers of people particularly those needs of the children. The water pressure is very good no sullage outlet or dumpsite. TV reception is poor to non. Small camp kitchen with BBQ. Given the limitations we had a great time here.

Another example of park managers who shouldn't be in the industry if they don't want to deal with people, very abrupt. Unfriendly staff. Likes: Great location with sites right on beach front, good fishing all around, amenities were being upgraded while we were there and are very good, lots of grass, good fish cleaning area, lovely seaside town with communal playground just down the road from the park as well as cafes, shops and pub.
Dislikes: Grumpy managers, amenities and managers residence were being upgraded while we were there so rec room and half the amenities were closed but only temporary. As always we contacted the park before arriving to ensure they could accommodate a 32 foot fifth wheeler (which they said they could) but when we got there the allocated site was too small so we were given another which was also too small so the fiver hung out by about 6 inches where they then made us get some witches hats to put out on the road which was unnecessary as we were in a corner near the fish cleaning area. We would prefer to be told that they can't accommodate us when we ring so we can stay at another park.

The park is beautifully situated on a point, with many sites facing the beaches. The town is only 5 minutes stroll away and has some good services (bakery, butcher, grocers, hotel). I loved being able to go to the kiosk next door for a cappuccino and hot doughnut. But as the place was bursting at the seams with fisher-people, many of who had been there for two or three months, we felt as though we were intruding. Friends who arrived at the same time as ourselves made the same comment. Another problem was the lack of sullage on our site, although some had this facility. Average management, friendly management, management responsive to comments. Good value for money. Very good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by. Laundry, dump point, security entry to park. Very poor atmosphere to park. Electric bbq (free), with a congenial atmosphere, lit at night, with seating provided. Amenities clean neat and tidy, plenty of hot water although some distance from many van sites. No ensuite facilities. BBQ was a popular spot. Lawned throughout. Good town facilities, with nice reasonably priced meals at the Hotel, with even cheaper meals in the bar area. Give the foreshore deli a miss, terrible fish n chips at exorbitant prices. Plenty of on water activities during holiday periods, with trailer and wind sailers a-plenty. Good fishing area and a spot for a nice peaceful weeks holiday. Powered sites run from $22/24 less Family Parks discount. Close to all other major towns on the SA Yorke Peninsula. Van Parking Assistance if required. Would stay again. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Noisy at all hours of night with many people driving in and out and children loud at all hours even until 3am on our stay. We prepaid for two nights but left after one due to conditions and noise. Complaints were relayed to owner, apologies were given but no suggestion of a refund on non staying second night. Toilets unclean and not many and unisex showers in outside circular cubicles right next to main bbq area. Map given to park but no assistance with parking etc; Although pet friendly park dogs were running around off leash and lots of dog droppings everywhere especially on our site and walkways. A poor camp site at a top quality park fee. They also charge a $10 deposit for the key. I think 1.5 of the points I have attributed go to the friendly manager, who was aware that the fee the owner charges is way beyond the quality of the park. $24 powered site, $18.50 unpowered. Facilities mediocre and too far from the camp sites, past the BBQ area. Unisex showers in outdoor circular buildings. Listed as 'by the jetty', but there is a short walk to the beach which is screened from view by hills. Lots of dirty old caravans close together and mostly vacant fill much of the small campsite. Water is untreated, muddy and straight from the creek - unsuitable for anything. Small rainwater tank for filling the kettle. A poor camp, which may be acceptable if they charged only $5. However very friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality. Good laundry, no rec room. Quiet, claustrophobic park, too much shade, congenial bbq area atmosphere. UC bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided.

Manager's name is Christopher Wright. Victor Harbor has 3 caravan parks; the Adare being the smallest. The park is a pleasant one, well grassed and shaded, and was whilst we were there, very quiet (even though 2 groups used the conference facilities at the same time). The ablution block is rustic but clean and my wife and I had no complaints. The caravan park is located by a river and this has a beautiful bitumen walk along it. The caravan park is a bit further out of town than the other 2, but this would not stop me going there again. We were charged $22 per night for 2 people. This is seniors' discount. The normal charge is $24 for 2 people per night. I have now stayed at all 3 caravan parks in Victor Harbor and will stay at this one in preference to the others whenever we go to Victor Harbor again. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($22 2A per night powered). Stayed 6 nights, powered site $24.30 per night with Top Tourist discount. Reception was very friendly and helpful. Our site, (No. 122) was a large drive-through site, very roomy, on a green shade cloth and was behind one of the amenities blocks of which there are three. The mat was very handy because we did get some rain. Good laundry, situated at the amenities block nearest to the reception quite a distance from most sites. The park was green when we were there as they had received some rain. It is a tidy park with permanents (weekenders). Access to park is via boom-gate and pin numbers to the amenities. There is a playground, large jumping pillow, a dump point and camp kitchen. We enjoyed this park as it was quiet, even though there were a lot of vans, and amenities were very clean. Victor Harbour is a lovely town with other nearby historic towns worth a visit. This park had everything we needed and we would certainly stay again.

This is a large park, well located to the main part of town with very few permanents. Mostly drive through sites with good access to facilities. It was relatively quiet when we were there but is likely to be very busy during peak periods. The amenities blocks are large and well serviced whilst we were there. The park is obviously suffering from the drought with dry dusty sites - but most have shade cloth down which makes it better. Plenty of water. Good showers. Sealed roads. Sites are quite close, but the drive through made it easy. The front drive (into the park) is protected by a boom gate with access PIN number. A bit tight for large rigs but still OK. Reasonable value for money. Lots to do in Victor Harbor with other towns close by worth a visit. Give the AquaCaf in Goolwa a go - very trendy - but simple food. The Hotel Victor sells good meals at a reasonable price with a three course meal for a couple going for $32 ($16 each!) The park has a large jumping bag for the kids and a small playground. Good for a short or long stay.

Stayed 2 nights, powered site $24.00 per night with senior's discount. Friendly helpful reception. We were allocated site No. 13, a level, long roomy site at the back of the park with carpet-like green mats. These mats were laid throughout the park and were a godsend because we were there when it rained. The mat was wet but we were not walking in mud. Our site did not have sullage so grey water went under the trees. Other sites did have sullage. This is a very small park, very near the ferry which takes you to Cowell on the Eyre Peninsula. Amenities, accessed via a key, were very clean and central to most sites. Good laundry with Elna press for ironing. The undercover camp kitchen/bbq was also very clean. Motel units available. Good night lighting. Good bakery nearby which could be accessed through a locked gate. Short walk to the jetty and also the shopping centre. We enjoyed this park – no jumping pillow or swimming pool – just a basic clean park. Recommended for any length of stay.

Likes: Water is in very short supply in SA, and so are no grassed sites, however they did have artificial grass which looked quite attractive.
Dislikes: Only one drive through site that I noticed.
Parking: No.
Added Touches: An excellent bakery just behind park who make great Cornish pasties! Did not appear to have any permanents.
Local Information: A small park, right on ocean, A short walk to the main street. Only 200 metres from getting on the ferry which takes you to Cowell on The Eyre Peninsula. A 2 hour trip well worth it, although fairly expensive with a caravan.
Roads: Good

Manager's name is Andrew & Sharon Bowey. The best thing about this park was that the amenities block was like an ensuite. There was 12 individual ensuites that anyone in the park could use. It was easy for us as a family to shower and toilet together. It was very clean as it was cleaned twice a day. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($30 A3 C1). Amenities are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. This park is extremely busy during Xmas school holidays and Easter but if you can avoid these times it is an excellent base to explore the area and for an extended stay if wanted. Good fishing in the bay and lots of tourist things to do in the copper triangle. Friendly management. Very good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Park now has a new amenities block which is equal to the best you will find anywhere. Each facility in the block of 10 is a small individual bathroom containing a shower cubicle, toilet and hand basin, excellent concept and clean. The old amenity block is still functioning and although old they were clean and well maintained. Good sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay. Laundry, rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, security entry to park. Good atmosphere to park. Clean UC electric bbq (free), lit at night, with seating provided. Good playground, condition okay. Suitable for month or longer.
Likes: Quiet, close to beach, excellent amenities.
Local Information: In the copper triangle tourist area, sailing, fishing, bowls, golf, 5 pubs to choose from for meals, good shopping at Kadina.
Roads: Good roads from all directions into Wallaroo.

Nice location, however the toilet and shower facilities are old and in need of replacement. The Tamarisk Trees provide shade, but as with these trees they drop their fronds over everything and are real rust starters! Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, reasonable value for money ($17.54 2A per night powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), dump point, secure entry. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dogs on leash. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to beach with drive on access.
Dislikes: Tamarisk Trees dropping rubbish over van and car, very poor amenity blocks
Parking: Arrival bay provided
Local Information: Good shopping in Wallaroo. Kadina is main shopping in area. Moonta and Pt. Hughes are also short drives away. Fishing off jetty permitted and a return trip across the gulf on the new car Ferry to Cowell area is available at a cost of $100 for two.
Roads: Sealed roads throughout the area, although many are in very poor condition.

Follow signs from town centre towards ferry terminal, then turn left to park entrance. Small park which means less people and less noise, but somewhat restricted space to be able to site larger vans. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), kiosk, dump point. Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dogs on leash. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Good location near the beach and the new ferry service may be interesting to kids.
Dislikes: Restricted space due to size of park.
