Angorichina Tourist Village, Angorichina

Almost halfway between Blinman and Parachilna, can't miss it. Parachilna Gorge. Flinders Ranges. Ph: 08 8648 4842. Pets at manager's discretion, on leash at all times.

Manager's name is Dave & Caroline. Angorichina Village was originally established as a hostel for returned soldiers suffering from tuberculosis and is now a tourist village. What an absolute delight, again it's amazing what you find in way out places. All we will say is you have to come here and see for yourselves. Unfortunately there was no laundry as it was destroyed by fire Christmas 2010, so when we stayed there was no laundry available but the owners are hoping to replace it in the not too distant future. There are also units for 2-5 people, chalets for 2-6 people, cottages for 2-8 people and for conferences there is a conference facility with a 51 bed dormitory and all facilities available. The kiosk is more of a general store and there is also facility for puncture repairs, minor vehicle repairs and gas bottle refills. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have annex slabs, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. No rec room, no camp kitchen, kiosk, van parking, wireless internet is available. Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The view of the surrounding hills is magnificent and the feeling of total remoteness whilst still being in contact with civilisation was lovely.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: A good 12 km walk for the rugged down the Blinman River and some nice drives through the hills.
Roads: Dirt but in good condition.

Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary and Resort, Arkaroola
Click here for park details on My Park List
110 km east of Leigh Creek/Copley or 170 km N of Wilpena Pound. Coming via Leigh Creek is a good bitumen road up to Copley, then 110 km of gravel to Arkaroola. Alternatively good bitumen to the Wilpena Pound turn off, then 170 km of gravel. From Yunta on Barrier Hwy, through Frome Downs, 288km of pretty good gravel. Departed to Copley via Balcanoona and Nepaburra; 140km, again good gravel. Need to slow down for floodway dips on these roads. Ph: 08 8648 4848 or 1800 676 042. It is a sanctuary - no pets allowed.

Arkaroola Wilderness Sanctuary Resort is on the N of the Flinders Ranges and at the end of a gravel road. The resort itself includes cabins, bar, excellent restaurant, shop, swimming pool, in fact all the facilities you would find in any tourist resort and is of a 4-5 Star standard. However the caravan and camping section is some 500m from the main resort down a very badly maintained stony road. We rate the caravan/camping section barely a 1 star, and this is for the clean amenities. The park is very obviously the poor second cousin and receives very little, if any, funding. The park is on the side of a hill and the sites are terraced which means there is a steep drop down on the edge of each ridge and the roads between the ridges are narrow and when we were there very muddy. Not all the sites have water, but all have electricity. Some are long and narrow, others are wide and shallow. Most of the sites have an unmovable metal ring for a fire right in the middle of the site making it even harder to park the caravan, these fire rings also pose a hazard at night as the lighting in the park is non-existent. The amenities block is old, tired, very basic, and in desperate need of updating. If you are showering and someone draws hot water your shower immediately goes ice cold, which is not very pleasant. One of the showers in the gents has been out of order since January. The shower head faces directly towards the dry change area (there is no curtain) so consequently the dry change area gets very wet. In spite of our disappointment in the caravan park facilities we would still recommend people visit Arkaroola if for no other reason than to do the Ridgetop Tour, it was absolutely awesome and the best 4WD tour we have ever done. Just like being on a roller coaster but in a 4WD vehicle instead. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Poor value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have annex slabs, no sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, kiosk, wireless internet is available. Quiet, open and roomy, not enough shade, no permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The surrounds and the view from the park.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: Heaps of tours available from reception and a few self drives and walks. Would recommend the Ridge Top Tour.
Roads: Dirt road in very good condition to the Aboriginal community and then not so good.
Date 05/2011. Park Rating 1: The resort itself rates 4; but the caravan park only rates 1.
Report submitted by Fran & Trevor (Shakazulu) Melbourne (131).

This is an outback park and needs to be considered in that light. Under the circumstances, the management have done very well to establish such an enjoyable camping area. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($20 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, kiosk, no wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Clean wood bbq (free). Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Roomy sites and great views. The Ridgetop Tour to Sillers Lookout is well worth the money.
Roads: The last four kms into the park are woefully corrugated and need to be taken very steadily. This does keep the dust down, however.

Manager's name is Gary. This is a small council park of about 16 sites. The park is in an open park area of town. No fencing but we felt safe. The caretaker comes around during the day to collect the fees. He does not live on site. He is however quite responsive when phoned up about arrivals. There are a couple of cabins available as well. The recreation room and camp kitchen is in a squash center on-site. One squash court available for hire. Key is provided for bathroom/toilet facilities. There were only 2 permanents on-site. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($21 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Likes: Close to town center (0.75 km). Shops are within walking distance of park. Park is adjacent to bowling club, and other sporting facilities. there is a museum nearby. Balaklava has annual horse race meeting.
Dislikes: Due to no fencing there is the potential for locals to wander through.

Mine Rd. Flinders Ranges. Ph: 08 8648 4867. (Pet policy unknown.)

Although we didn't stay here we took the opportunity to have a look around it and were not impressed. We had originally intended to stay and even the locals advised us not to stay in Blinman but to go on to Angorichina instead. Blinman Park can only be described as a piece of dirt behind the pub. There were powered sites (not many), none appeared to have water, some of the sites were full of rubbish and the whole park was bang next door to the generator. If we had to rate it, it would probably be 1 but okay for an emergency night stop only.

Cockburn Caravan Park, Cockburn

Cockburn is a tiny village near the border of South Australia and NSW, on the Barrier Hwy. Turn right across the railway line at Cockburn, then left and stop at the PO (labelled "Rural School") to pay for site and obtain directions. Ph: 08 8091 1999. Pets allowed.

Manager's name is Iris. This is not, strictly speaking a van park yet. The site has "dongas" for nearby mine workers complete with available kitchen and bathroom. The owner of the site, Iris, is upgrading the facilities for the van area which is near the dongas. When we arrived on a very cold winter's afternoon the van amenity facilities were in the process of receiving their upgrade and were closed, so we were invited to use the bathroom near the dongas. It was clean and complete with soap and towels. The owner and a friend were nearby and after the very welcome hot shower they offered us an even more welcome glass of red. They proved to be two delightful ladies with interesting life stories and we will always stop by at Cockburn when travelling in the area again. Very friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($10 2A per night, off-peak period). Some unlevel sites. Peaceful. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.

Copley is just N of Leigh Creek, to the west of the North Flinders Ranges area. Railway Terrace, on the western side of the main road through Copley, roughly in the centre of the village. Ph: 08 8675 2288. Pets allowed on leash.

Manager's name is Shirley & David Mills. We stayed here three years ago and on Sundays they had Devonshire Teas. Unfortunately this is no longer the case we were disappointed to see how the park had deteriorated. It is at a stage now where it needs a lot of money spent to bring it back. Would try Leigh Creek Caravan Park next time. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Manager's name is Peter. Pete the current caretaker finish's here end of December and his place will be taken by Tony and Sue. Pete has been working hard this year since I was here in May. All sites are clearly marked. Most now have C Gear mats. Construction of the camp kitchen is well under way. The only dislike I had about the park previously was low pressure hot water because it was gravity fed - however it has now been updated to mains pressure. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($120.00 2A per week, powered). Community run park. Quite small, limited sites. Very peaceful. The amenities are up on a hill so would not be appropriate for those with problems walking up steep incline. Amenities basic but clean. Management went out of their way to book us in as we were late and they had to come back to the park. Very nice overnight stop, but was also used as a semi permanent park and week or more stays by other residents. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($30 2A 1C, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. No rec room, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Nice quiet friendly little park. Nice walk into town.
Parking: There is a steep little hill into the park. I would ring ahead to save the trip down and turn around.
Local Information: A very historical little town. A great kids playground in the centre of town. Locals seemed friendly.

Manager's name is Peter. Two cabins with plans for another to be added. Two on-site vans, one a very old bondwood van about 10' in length has been renovated, sleeps 2, the other about 16" sleeps 2. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($20.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). We paid $120.00 because of weekly 7th night free. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Manager's name is Peter. The Brook is a community managed park which is owned by the Pirie council. When I rang to enquiry about booking a site I was told by Peter no need just rock up. Peter is the caretaker and is very friendly and helpful and lives onsite. It is a open park with lots of gumtrees around the edges which have been pruned for safety. 22 powered sites and a huge unpowered area. There are 4 permanent sites. Eftpos is available. The sites are large enough to take large 40' coaches and trailers. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site. Price was as expected, good value for money ($108.00 2A per week, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. 2 clean electric bbqs (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, a large under cover seating area as well. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Dislikes: The only complaint I have with the park is that the hot water is gravity feed which I spoke to Peter about and it is in the pipeline to be changed over to solar hot water with mains pressure. But being a committee managed park this all takes time.

Very pleasant location beside the normally dry crystal brook, with many grand old gums, but there is space to avoid being directly under them. Adjacent to the oval and across the road from the golf course. Town has all needed supplies, and is walking distance from park. Amenities are old, but clean and serviceable. Good friendly management, management was helpful. Good value for money; rate was $18 per night 2A in a powered site. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, were clean, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. The amenities block was vile, the park had little to no shade, no water (understandable), the staff were not at all interested in being helpful, the early morning noise from the adjoining houses just made a bad experience worse. Unfortunately this park in an area where they don't have to care as it is the only one for 250k's in either direction. Free camping is a definite option instead of here.

It is well placed as a stopping point after a day on the road. It is a shame the park is not better maintained. The showers enclosures are large, and the water temperature and pressure is good, but there are no screens or other means to stop the water going everywhere, and no bench or shelf to place your clothes or toiletries bag etc. Some shower doors have one or two hooks, but not all, and the shower head in the one I used was 'stuffed' (technical term) and could not be aimed where wanted. Friendly staff. Cost was reasonable at $20.50 2A per night, powered, off-peak season, but some of that could be spent on upgrading the amenities blocks (showers in particular) and providing better toilet paper - I would bet my pension that the owners do not use the same flimsy paper. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites. Suitable for overnighter.

Just N of Hawker - not in the actual town. Drive N on Leigh creek road though Hawker on left opposite old railway station [Old Ghan Restaurant]. Ph: 08 8648 4266. Family Parks member. Pets allowed, at manager's discretion, on leash at all times.

Very clean & peaceful park in what is essentially an outback town. Water in the park is bore water & pressure is adequate. Amenities are spotless and most likely the best I have seen with hand soap, shampoo & conditioner provided. Sites are mostly gravel & flat with adequate room. As expected, no grass is to be found. A description of the BBQ area would be "rustic" and I am not sure I would make use of it. Very small children's playground & very basic games/entertainment room. Telstra internet signal is strong & Optus phone signal is available. Despite a few negatives, this park exceeded my expectations & I would go out of my way to stay here again. Cost was $30.00 per night for 2A 1C in the school holidays & included a long weekend.

Manager's name is John & Carrie Sitters. As this park is up for sale, whatever comments we make will probably change with new owners. When we arrived it was peak season, a long weekend and the park was full. Unfortunately management had lost our phoned reservation, but they we were able to accommodate us because they had had a cancellation. This is a nice country park with a lot of thoughtful ideas (see likes). We would have rated it higher but there was a lot of problems with the water whilst we were there and the amenities where shut down for showering for over 12 hours. Both the male and female amenities and the laundry were closed from 9.30 to 12.00 and anyone knows that 9.00 to 10.00 is the busiest time of the day for amenities. The disabled toilet was opened during this period but there was always a queue to use it. This was very inconvenient for everyone but obviously done to assist the owners. Although there is a car wash facility it was closed during our stay due to council water restrictions. All sites are gravel but well marked, unfortunately there was not a blade of grass to be seen even in the grassed area campground. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($24 2A per night, powered, peak season). We paid $21 because of FPA Member. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have annex slabs, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, basic rec room, basic camp kitchen, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: First time ever the amenities had hand-cream, bars of soap, shampoo, and conditioner all of which you returned when you had finished using. Each hand-basin had its own bottle of hand wash, plenty of paper towels. Heaps of fresh floor towels to use when showering.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: The Wilpena Panorama is a must, one of five in the world. Some lovely scenic drives and walks and of course the Flinders Ranges not too far away.

At first glance it doesn't look very attractive; lots of bare earth (probably due to drought conditions) and a lot of gravelled surfaces, with various shades of gravel. The roadways and all the sites are gravel. There are a number of mature gum trees and, in the centre, a green, but fairly weedy lawn area. New cabins have been installed, which look attractive and there are new, matching, amenity blocks so a definite attempt appears to have been made to improve the general appearance. The showers are water savers so the flow of water is not great but enough to get clean. Most of the permanents are at one side of the park and the tourist sites are on the other side. Management seem friendly and helpful. Town centre is only 200m away. A basic park at a reasonable price: $22 2A per night. Well worth a night or two. We would be happy to stay there again.

Sign at entry says, "Stay 3 nights get 1 free." Good rainfall when we stayed, which was wonderful. We could see improvements were being made but overall, it was a pleasant site, very clean and green. We recommend you buy bread if needed - the town has no bread shop. The town is one of the more inviting in SA - we usually find them dry and treeless. Bakery at Stone Hut is a must visit. Good playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Like the town, a laid back friendly park. You make the approaches to meet people and they will talk to you. The town is full of history if you take the trouble to explore and ask the locals.
Dislikes: Some of the grassed sites, although well grassed, were on a slope, but useable.
Parking: Parking at office.
Added Touches: There are some open fire drums available. All aspects of town are within walking distance. Tourist information available at the office.
Local Information: The local historical museum is a must see, there is more there than you may realise. The cemetery outside town has some very old graves of interest to family history researchers. The local coffee shop has a good pie floater meal on the varied menu. We found the local family history people very helpful and friendly. There are some good walks for the fit and healthy. Manager's name is Marina Supple. Smallish caravan park located on side of creek bed (othersider of creek bed though is an extensive bush camping area) and at foot of Mt Remarkable with mainly grassy level sites. Kangaroo frequented park, very peaceful, stayed only with one other caravan (who we found out are applying for manager job). Current managers very friendly, lots of good advice and tourism tips but unfortunately on their last days here and will be replaced soon. In middle of town area so easy walk to shops, playground, park and of course walking trails up (5 hrs) and around base (30 mins+ walks) of Mt Remarkable. One amenities block but clean (as you would expect for being just one of two tenants) and seated BBQ area. Type of park that I don't know if I would like if overcrowded - nice peaceful atmosphere. For this type of park in tourist area, very good value for money. Only real issue was noisy corellas requiring the odd gunshot and crack of whip to disperse. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($25 2A 2C powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. Clean gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Great atmosphere, its location, very shady and tree-lined creek, close for town and bushwalks (don't need to use your car much) and of course the semi permanent resident native (kangaroo).
Dislikes: As with many parks and towns in this region, Corellas are very noisy. A few gunshots and a crack of the whip from locals demonstrates their low tolerance so must be an ongoing issue.
Parking: Oldest town in the wider Flinders and one of those quaint little historic towns that is really nice to visit, including the pub for meals, museums, bushwalks, picnic area and just enjoying a small country town at the foot of a large hill. Plenty of drives around the place to explore (hopefully new managers will give as much detail as Marina). Great area to use your mountain bikes, and around Easter every year there is a big mountain bike festival hosted by the town making it a very busy place.
Added Touches: Really great friendly assistance from Marina and tourist info. Shame they are moving on.
Local Information: All bitumen.

Just off the main highway between Port Pirrie and Port Augusta - signposted to Mount Remarkable National Park. This well-established campground offers unpowered sites suitable for caravans, camper trailers and other large vehicles. Facilities include toilets (wheelchair accessible), heated showers, a baby change room and communal fireplaces. A limited number of fire drums are available. No dogs allowed (national park).

This is a very well set up camping ground within the Mt. Remarkable National Park. It is about 5k or so from the A1, the turn-off being about 20k north of Port Germein. Most of the sites in the main loop 1-39 are suitable for caravans and some suitable for larger motorhomes. Some sites are shaded and some not meaning if you want full sun for solar panels you can have it. Although it was the January school holidays the park was fairly empty. We purchased the 2 month combined Car & Camping Park Pass which was very good value at $50 concession from Port Lincoln Information Centre as we visited the National Parks down there as well. The park has flushing toilets (3M, 3F), a handicapped toilet and a shower block with hot & cold showers as well as a handicapped shower room. Sites 41-54 in the small loop have flushing toilets but no showers and the block does not have as easy an access from some sites. There is also a separate group camping area within this loop. Quite a number of walks leave from the adjacent Day Use area. Very good value for money. We paid $50 because of concession; unlimited camping and car pass for 2 months. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites. Mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park. No bbqs. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Well maintained National Park.

Manager's name is Kym and Chris Bertram. This park would only rate a 2 or 2.5 except for the difference made by friendly, helpful staff. They made us feel so welcome that we didn't worry about the limited number of showers and toilets! There is a lesson here for park owners. Their visitors' book is replete with similar comments. Having said that, the amenities were spotless and adorned by a fresh flower (yes, even the men's). Orroroo is on the way to the Flinders Ranges, but Orroroo is an old town worth a wander around in its own right.

Small park on the outskirts of town, though in Port Augusta that's not very far from town. Very nice people, but the park is about all you can expect in the area. It was 50 degrees so we chose to get an air-conditioned small cabin, which was very clean and had towel origami but otherwise unspectacular. Cabins section had its own laundry so you didn't have to go down to the sites area. The sites looked level but didn't have a lot of shade or grass, somewhat desert-like, the pool was small and didn't seem to have any shade during the day. Would stay again if passing through but probably it's really an overnight stop, the town wasn't as big as we'd thought. Could use this as a base for the Flinders Ranges but we'd probably rather go camping up there.

We had an ensuite site. Nice clean and bright ensuite with separate shower cubicle and good sized cupboard to unpack into, good towel rails plus 2 hooks. Lots of hot water and good exhaust fan. Most non-ensuite sites are drive through and long enough to stay hitched up, these are gravel while ensuite sites have annex slabs and most also have small concrete pads for the van. However, not even the pads are level and nearly all sites will require some sort of wheel chock. Most sites also slope severely front to back. In addition, on the ensuite sites if you have the van on the pads you will probably not be able to open the awning as it will be behind the ensuite building. Insufficient barbecues for the size of the park, most marked on their park map have disappeared. Laundry insufficient for the size of the park, be prepared to get up early or wait for a machine. Although park is on the highway we weren't disturbed by traffic noise. They escorted all arrivals to their site to assist with parking, as most sites were drive through this was a pointless exercise and meant we had to wait nearly 10 mins after checking in before someone was available to take us to our site and every afternoon the congestion of vans outside the office was ridiculous. $39.60 2A per night, ensuite. Dump point, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Good playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Good priced park ($23.85 2A with park discount). The park has a tired and rundown feeling. We collected a bag full of rubbish around our powered site, and there were fresh oil stains on the slab. There were several dead trees in the park requiring removal. The laundry floor had not been properly cleaned for ages and the washing machines were only given a cursory wipe over. Nice park with a nice view over the gulf. Lovely big drive thru sites. The free BBQ's were all not working; trying to walk around to find one. The only one that worked was the one that you had to pay for. Office was closed by then. At night time, it is secure with big gates locking you in, but you can get in and out. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($20 1A per night, powered). We paid $18 because of TT discount. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, kiosk, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Nice views, sites easy to get into.
Dislikes: The free BBQ;s not working and trying to find a BBQ that worked

Manager's name is Jody and Jason Boundy. This is a very nice park. We stayed there during Easter break and whilst it was fully booked the sites are big enough that you don't fall on top of one another. Amenities barely coped with full house but were clean and fairly modern. No grassed sites, just gravel, some with shade cloth type matting. Also known as Port Germein Caravan Park. Port Germein is a small township on the Princes Hwy approximately 22 km N of Port Pirie. The park is situated on the east side of the road overlooking Spencer Gulf. There is a jetty just a short walk from the park and BBQs in the beach reserve opposite the park. On beachfront of Port Germein, opposite jetty and by police station. Ph: 08 8634 5266. Pets at manager's discretion, and under close supervision.

A small community caravan park that is nestled between the larger stops at Port Augusta and Port Pirie. Nice and quiet, located opposite the jetty and main beach of the town. Staff are friendly and very helpful. Good for an overnighter or a couple of days break from travelling, I believe that when the water is in the fish are plentiful. Telstra service, clean amenities at the back of the park that would struggle with a full population, however they are well maintained and looked after. Clean BBQ area.

Manager's name is Mick & Chelle Fisher. This little park is a pleasant, safe alternative to those in Port Pirie & Port Augusta. $25 per night or 7 nights for the price of 6. Under new management. Mick gave us a choice of sites and came with us while we selected. Very friendly management and overall atmosphere. Amenities are spotless but probably inadequate in number when park is full. Water pressure is good and showers are hot. Soap and dryers provided. Good laundry and well equipped camp kitchen. As with most outback parks there is no sullage and no slabs. Flat roomy gravel sites in well maintained grounds. Well behaved dogs made welcome. Pub opposite serves meals and has take away. Longest jetty in Australia is across the road from park. There is a general store cum PO & Bank. Suitable for overnight or longer if you want to be a little out of the "city". We stayed for 4 nights & thoroughly enjoyed it.

This is a good stop over on the way west or east thru S.A. rather than Port Augusta. At night the loudest noise is the clock ticking, it's so peaceful. They have a new manager who is very friendly & goes out of his way to be a help in all things. This is a really clean & tidy park & rates high for cleanliness both in the amenities & the grounds; the only down side is all sites are on gravel & if it has rained the gravel gets into everything. The price of $25 I thought was a bit high. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Sign at front says no pets, however there are dogs here so can't say for sure. This is a really nice park that is very much let down by management attitude. Upon arrival here I was made to feel we had interrupted things by arriving and that it was a personal affront to the poor lady. She was rude, unfriendly and I had to question her regarding the FPA discount even though the card was in full view the whole time she processed out details. Even this was met with an air of impatience. Honestly, I felt like I was back in school by time I left the office after a 5 minute run down on the rules and regs (90% of which is common sense AND is signposted around the place). I was not asked politely to follow these, I was ordered to. Following this we observed the male manager verbally abuse another camper for placing his annexe peg on the wrong side of a curb thus infringing on the nonexistent grass - and abuse is the correct word to use here. These people quite obviously are either long overdue to leave the industry or have no people skills whatsoever. There is not a single welcoming point from either of them. The amenities are kept clean and tidy, however the water pressure is absolutely dismal. I would not recommend this place to anyone for any reason and FPA should be aware of what this place is doing to their brand. Unfriendly staff. Poor value for money ($32 2A per night, powered). We paid $28.80 because of FPA Discount. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, basic camp kitchen, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Report submitted by Dennis from Craigmore (2).

This is a lovely caravan park, with great big drive through sites, great view, so close to town, a beach nearby, dog friendly but when you check in you are given the riot act; a whole list of things you can't do, most are common sense but it is drummed into you, puts you off wanting to stay there, as it isn't a welcoming feeling. I actually booked at another caravan park but when I went there, it was so run down and no tourist or other vans there, so I left and booked in here. I had enquired via email to stay here, but the email I received back was rude and very unhelpful and basically said find somewhere else as I was travelling by myself and asked if there was someone to help me if need be. Considering most of the park is drive thru, that wouldn't of been a problem and every other park I stayed at in 4 months said it was fine, but Port Pirie said no, there is no one who could help you, we don't help people onto sites they need to do it themselves or go elsewhere. Not the best reply to an email, seemed they didn't care if you stayed there or not. Wonder why they own a caravan park. It is a pity it is let down by the managers as the park is so nice and beautiful and great location. Very unfriendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($27 1A per night, powered, off-peak season). We paid $24.30 because of FPA discount. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. This is a perfect example of managers of a park that should not be in this industry. Upon arrival you are read the riot act and are given the impression that you are a burden on the park. There are more rules and signs stating them than any other park we have stayed in. One of the most stupid being that you cannot remove unattended washing when it has finished out of washing machines and put it in the peoples basket - main reason this was in place as the park used most of the washing machines and left the washing in there when it was finished for hours so you couldn't effectively use the washing machines. Very unfriendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($40.50 A3 2C per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. A small and rather pleasant park with a large number of permanent sites, but tourist sites are generally in an area of their own, some of them on water's edge. Very cordial reception from new managers, shown to site. Sites reasonable size, generally shaded, gravel surface with concrete pads, well maintained and kept tidy. Good water and sullage to all sites. Amenities central to park, very well maintained and clean, good hot water, soap and hand drying provided, showers had reasonably sized changing areas, good hot water pressure. Creek is dammed to make a (public) swimming area, which is not fenced off so care would need to be taken with young children. Large council playground nearby outside park. Sites were generally gravel. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($27.00 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality. Basic laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, no permanents. Clean UC bbq. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Adjacent to the Quorn Railway Station for easy access to the Pichi Richie Rail Train
Dislikes: Late arrivals speeding around trying to get a site.

This is a nice country park, the sites aren't too bad and close to the amenities. Price was expensive compared to other parks in the area, which I did think were nicer. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($26 1A per night, powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Suitable for few days.
Likes: It was a nice park, close to town
Dislikes: The washing machines dispensed it own powder, so I couldn't use it as I need to use special washing powder, so couldn't do any washing.
Local Information: Pichi Richi Camel Rides - awful road into their property from the gate. The views around are lovely
Roads: Narrow road, and windy but lovely views, just need to take it easy.

After an enjoyable time travelling through Burra to Port Augusta, Port Lincoln then across to the Flinders Ranges we decided to stop a Quorn Caravan Park as we had passed through the town many times when we lived in South Australia. We found Bronwyn and Gary very welcoming and we liked the set out of the park. The amenities were clean and we would definitely stay there again on any other travels.
While staying at the park I lost a treasured gold chain and jewelled cross. If the person who found it could please post it back to me no questions asked I would really appreciate it.

Myall Grove Caravan Cark, Roxby Downs
Click here for park details on My Park List
Coming from Woomera road entrance - just after 50 kph sign is first main side road on the right heading into town centre. Caravan park is right on corner, entrance a few hundred m up that main side road. 56 Burgoyne St. Ph: 08 8671 1991. No pets allowed.

Manager's name is Belinda & Vicki. This is the only caravan park in Roxby that allows stopovers (others are allocated to BHP Billiton/permanent residents). The park is full of villas/cabins and is like a labyrinth of roads - thus only a handful of sites allocated to campers/caravaners in two areas. Park is part of Aspen Parks chain and because it caters for a lot of long term stays is relatively expensive. One area is close to main entrance and has level sites with adjacent amenities (and a walk to BBQ areas) while the other is at back of park near "scrub/creek" area, a little more quiet, and has older ATCO Hut amenities nearby plus lawn and barbecue area - preferred this area. All sites are red dirt or crusher dust. As park is very busy with contractors and workers from Olympic Dam be prepared for vehicles all hours of night, although in fairness, reasonably quiet and others respectful. Stayed during November heatwave so it was oppressive heat - no other campers in sight! Best time to stay (although check for available sites) is winter months. Very friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($30 2A, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Clean bbq gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Good place as a stopover to explore region including Andamooka, Olympic Dam etc. Managers really nice and helpful with advice and park map. Only too happy to please. Did enquire about leaving camper behind to explore William Creek etc and was told this was possible (didn't do it in the end).
Dislikes: Claustrophobic because there are lots of cabins. A little noisy and busy because of all the contractors etc who live there - lots of permanents. Very dusty and dirt place, no shade. A bit expensive. Need to ring ahead on Sunday when arrive as they are shut in afternoon (office hours are 8-6pm on other days)
Added Touches: Managers indicated intention of having free sausage sizzles and one was listed on noticeboard the night we left. There's a really nice "camp kitchen & seating" type area literally adjacent to reception but only usable during office hours.
Local Information: Fuel is expensive! There's only one petrol station (BP) in Roxby (a higher price Mobil is located at Olympic Dam, 10 km away). Roxby vibrant place, has Woolworths and nice shady main street. Olympic Dam area 10km away (and need to head that way to go to William Creek) and Andamooka is a must visit place also just 30km away.
Roads: Really good because used by Large tanker haulers. Bitumen all the way but watch for emu's and wedge tailed eagles along the route.

Manager's name is Wayne and Kellie Poynter. We just visited this park for a family long weekend. We stayed in the bunkhouse, 3 rooms which sleep a total of 12. Very good rates - $90/night for the whole bunkhouse. Heating and cooling, lighting, bedside tables/drawers and bunk beds, etc. We would stay again either in the bunkhouse or camping/caravanning. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($90 2A, per night, cabin). We paid $90/night for the whole bunkhouse (3 rooms). Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: We liked that the owners were friendly and easy going. The bunkhouse was away from the main sites and we had our own open fire.
Dislikes: No paper towel/dryer in toilets but we reported this to them and they were due to put up paper towel holders. The showers were very small and due to the cold weather everything was wet with condensation even though they had exhaust fans going.
Added Touches: They had a stereo and CDs plus mini 8 ball table and dart board, etc all free in the camp kitchen area.
Local Information: Alligator Gorge and Hancocks Lookout nearby plus other walks.
Roads: Road to park was gravel but it's only 3.5kms so not a big issue.

We have kept our rates as cheap as we can to please the tightest budget. Hot showers, flushing toilets, bbq pit, $5 laundry (wash and dry), bunkhouse to sleep 8 and soon to be finished is the camp kitchen. Even though our rates are cheap, every dollar spent goes back into the park to make it better for the next time you wheel in.

A delightful park in a magnificent setting. Price was $31 2A over the New Year. Sites are very basic consisting of gravel with a lot having shade trees to some degree. The site has a beautiful well maintained pool (not sure how previous poster missed it), a fully stocked shop with virtually everything you could want. Water was drinkable - but not magnificent. Try and visit the Woolshed Restaurant (on the same property) for a great meal. We stayed her for 3 days but could have stayed far longer as there is so much to see in the Flinders Ranges within a close drive. (Also visited Wilpena Pound 'resort' and were not impressed at all - all very artificial with signs and rules everywhere, expensive prices and a Yuppy atmosphere.)

Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($37 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Rated as poor because of quality of site, ablution facilities and standard of service. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, very few sites have annexe slabs, some sites are shaded, poor water quality. Basic laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 1). Quiet, open and roomy, no permanents. No pool, no playground.
Likes: Own walks on the property. Very good camp kitchen. Able to have a camp fire.
Dislikes: Very uneven site which made a large section of it unusable. Amenities block terribly set up, with small exposed shower cubicles, and in poor condition. Apparently front section of CP and the amenity block is much better, but looked cramped. Staff very poorly handled a mix up over our booking, resulting in us losing our site and having to pack up and leave as they were full. This ended up being a blessing as we preferred the Wilpena Pound Caravan Park.

Fresh produce comes in twice a week. Very helpful and attentive when booking tours. Loved the pool and great place to meet people. Sites were well laid out. Birds and wildlife abundant.
Dislikes: No phone or internet. Saying that they did advise they will have their own tower as of next year. You can purchase WIFI for $6 per hour.
Added Touches: Each site had their own enclosed fire pit with a hotplate attached that could be used. Wood purchased for $13 per bag.

There were no powered sites available and we were directed to the unpowered section supposedly suitable for the van. It was totally inadequate as the areas were sloping and vans were propped up precariously on ramps and pieces of wood. We found out later there was a larger area that would be suitable further away from the main campground which we weren't notified about. We booked and paid for 3 nights ($19.80 2A per night with Top Tourist discount) but left after one night after damaging the jockey wheel in the levelling manoeuvres on the rocky surface.

This park was an extreme disappointment to us and despite paying for 2 nights we left after one night. The office staff were totally disinterested in our concerns and were unresponsive to say the least. We might have got them on an off day but we expected much better. Despite our prior booking and advice of our large van, we found the nominated site required 4WD to be engaged to climb the steep hill and loose road base to the site which was stated as having power and water connection. Yes, but they didn't tell us how far away the services were. Power and water were approx 30m away across a deep dry creek gulley and at a much lower level, and as a result we had no more than a trickle of water at the van entry point and we had to totally rely on van tank water. It was disappointing to see very large sites in the level site area being occupied by small single axle vans. Amenities were totally inadequate to cope with the numbers booked in for the night, with every site being occupied as well as including 140 bike riders camping for the night. This park needs to invest some monies into its park as even the road in is very rough and we have an off road type van. Would not stay there again. Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($31.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is bad. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality. No wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Noisy, claustrophobic park, no permanents.
Dislikes: Nothing to like and a total disappointment. Poor condition roads and dangerous for large vans made to access the sites on the steep hill

Lots of dogs because they are not allowed at nearby Wilpena Pound. We decided to try this park as an alternative to the park at Wilpena Pound that we have stayed in several times over recent years. We were more than happy with the experience. Staff were friendly and went out of their way to be friendly - to the extent of offering the loan of equipment we had neglected to bring. We received a detailed briefing of services offered at the park, and tourist information. The cost, with Top Tourist discount was just under $30 2A per night - very reasonable given the remoteness and the quality of the facilities offered. There are 2 amenity blocks but we only visited the more modern one. It was in excellent condition - well placed in relation to sites and kept very clean throughout our 4 night stay. Plenty of hot water, good showers, soap and paper towel provided. Most sites were extremely roomy and level with power and water within reasonable proximity. A few drive-through sites. Water was of a reasonable standard (bore) with rainwater available for tea/coffee. The camp kitchen was very well equipped and more than adequate for the number wishing to use it during our visit. This park is outside mobile phone access but staff quickly delivered a message to us late one afternoon. 24 hour pay phones are available at the well stocked kiosk. A pool is provided although unlikely to be used much during the winter. A roomy, friendly and quiet park that fits its outback location beautifully. We enjoyed the fireplace on our site (many sites have their own fireplaces with bbq plate) but the highlight for us was the range of well-marked walking trails that surround the park. The walks range from some taking less than an hour to those taking many hours. A number of easy walks (1-3 hours) start from within the park. The park is suitable for a few days up to a week and would be especially enjoyed by those who enjoy and outback walk or those with school aged children. A great park in a magnificent outback setting.

This park was great, close to the Flinders Ranges, and great views. Some drive through sites, lovely friendly helpful staff. I was travelling by myself and they reserved an easy site for me, came to my van one day as I was wanting a flight over the Pound to say they called. The sites are nice and in the bush, they were all a reasonable size also. Lovely bush feeling. Nice walks around the place and a restaurant also in the hotel section. Good stocked kiosk. Wilpena Pound Resort and Campground, Wilpena Pound

51 km N of Hawker, Flinders Ranges National Park. The Resort offers different types of accommodation, including a caravan and camping area. Ph: 08 8648 0048 or 1800 805 802. No pets allowed.

Following previous reports I found this park to be quite good - good shade for unpowered site - facilities fairly close which were clean. Petrol price at Resort was 6 cents cheaper than Hawker - the closest town. Plenty of drives in the area - a day trip through to Blinman and then across to Parachilna, through the Gorge and also visit to Brachina Gorge and Bunyeroo Gorge - all completed easily in one day although I found that I erred in going from Parachilna back to Hawker and then back to Wipena - this would have been accomplished much better if I had gone through the Moralana scenic tour. The only gripe I have with Wilpena is the absence of a dump point.

Very nice location within National Park. Friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($35 2A 2C per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, no sites have annex slabs, most sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, no permanents. No playground.
Likes: Location within the Wilpena Pound National Park in very nice bushland setting. Good access to the rest of the regions attractions. Able to have a campfire.
Dislikes: The caravan sites were mostly crowded in one section with very narrow roads through it, when there is a huge area of land left over an largely unoccupied for unpowered sites. A shame given the setting and the space available. The kiosk is very expensive - be warned.

This is a large bush resort complex within Wilpena Pound National Park which has everything from bar, bistro, restaurant and cabins to powered and unpowered sites. The swimming pool is part of the resort complex and is some distance from the campsite area. It is very obvious that the camping and caravanning area receives very little financial support and attention. The sites are rough, unlevel and unkempt. No work was done around the sites during our stay, a lot of ground tidying around the sites is sorely needed. If there was an UC camp kitchen we never found it and it was not shown on the mud map supplied. There are various gas bbqs scattered around the park but none of these are under cover, have seating or lighting. The amenity blocks are few and sorely in need of updating. Some of the unpowered sites were a considerable distance from the amenity blocks. We only found one laundry, it had 3 washing machines but only 1 working and it would appear that they have been out of action for some considerable time. The mud map we were given was nearly next to useless and buildings depicted were not where they were shown. There is no TV reception unless you have a satellite dish however the bar/bistro has two TV's. Average staff friendliness, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($32 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have annex slabs, most sites are shaded, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, no rec room, kiosk, disabled facilities, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open and roomy, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean gas bbq, dismal bbq area atmosphere. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Parking: Outside visitors centre
Added Touches: Various activities for children during the school holidays.
Local Information: Heaps of walks, scenic drives, scenic flights
Roads: Tarred roads are fine, the gravel roads in some cases were better than the tarred ones.

Camping and caravan park that is part of a resort complex. There are many more unpowered sites to powered. The site has been established on principles of maintaining a natural park like atmosphere with trees and bushes interspersed with camp sites. Amenity blocks are situated around the park and vary in quality. Finding your allocated site is a bit of a challenge as the mud map provided is just that. Great spot if you are looking for a natural setting. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($31 2A). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, no wireless internet available., mobile wireless not available. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($29.50 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, large sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, late checkout allowed (up to noon), kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Gas bbq ($1), dismal bbq area atmosphere. Clean pool is open to the sun, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Lovely, well treed, peaceful park in magnificent setting. Friendly local wildlife.
Dislikes: Many powered sites were miles from the facilities, and you needed a good torch as the only lighting was at the facility block. Only 3 washing machines (1 out of order) and 4 clothes lines in entire park, and one was attached to dodgy water supply that stained clothes. BBQs were tiny and miles from powered area. No shower curtains.
Parking: Park at visitor information to check in.
Roads: Road N to Blinman is now sealed for more than half way, road works due for completion mid 2010.

This roadhouse is a good overnighter, gold coin donation and $2.00 showers and flush toilets. Donation to I think the Lions Club. No power or water but the facilities are good. Meals at the roadhouse are good also.

Old Pimba Rd. Only one entrance into town, very easy to find, first street on left. Ph: 08 8673 7800. Pets at manager's discretion, must exercise pets outside of park grounds.

A very basic park - no shade but water and power to sites. Toilet cubicles very small but showers roomy. Licensed bar opens between 6-7 daily. Very windy here at this time of year. Missile park in town is interesting - Roxby Downs is better for shopping etc. No fuel here, and apparently Roxby Downs is cheaper than Pimba. Worth a visit.

Likes: Small bar opened in the evening with a congenial atmosphere
Local Information: Woomera - what a surprise. A very interesting place that still maintains are air of mystery about its defence/missile testing past/current uses. Very well set up with information centre and displays around town, that even kept a previously not interested person entertained for a couple of hours. Well worth a visit to this town that most Australians would have heard of but not know much about.

A bit dear for what was offered. A good one night stay-over before heading north. Rained when we were there and it was very muddy - did not make for a 'happy wife'. Toilets were not terribly good - but passable. Great drive through sites - all very level. Friendly staff, staff helped us at the site. Reasonable value for money ($25 2A). Peaceful, open & roomy park. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.

Likes: The facilities were kept clean and tidy; toilet cubicles very small but just adequate.
Dislikes: Welcome was very poor almost surly, we were quite surprised at the attitude displayed by the lady behind the desk. She made us feel we had done something wrong. We later found that she was a temporary manager, whilst owner was away.
Parking: Park near office, plenty of room to park.
Added Touches: There is a small donga converted into a pleasant bar. A good spot to meet people.
Local Information: Two museums, one at the Information Centre and One at the park where the aircraft and rockets are on display. The park is free there is a small entrance fee for both museums. Famous road surveyor and explorer Len Beadell is buried in the local cemetery. Roxby Downs is worth a visit.

Woomera is way out there. Was a closed town (secret rocket stuff) until a few years back. Has only a few hundred residents now with accommodation for about 3,000. Mainly occupied by mine workers now from Roxby Downs & Olympic Dam Mine. Caravan park has no grass & amenities basic but it has a feel you can't describe. We went for one night but were invited to come to happy hour 5-9pm on the first night & found the most amazing bar set up in an old "donger". Crappy on the outside but a mini Sydney type tavern inside complete with air con, shelves of all liquors & ice cold beers. They even have mood lighting & an outdoor beer garden area. Guess what, we stayed another night just for happy hour. Friendly staff ($22 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, no sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, camp kitchen, kiosk. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: The Bar
Dislikes: Didn't dislike anything but keep in mind it isn't the resort style park some might be used to.
Parking: pick a spot
Local Information: Schnitzel at the pub is unbelievable. Visit to the mine sites 70kms away are worth the trip. Roxby Downs, a manufactured town for the mine is a wonder, out there in the middle of nowhere.

Very small park next to roadhouse and beside the main road to Broken Hill. It has a shower which had good pressure and was nice and hot. It also has toilet facilities. It is all dirt and the refuelling for trucks is directly in front of the caravan sites so it can be a bit dusty. However it is adequate for an overnight stop and the price was reasonable at $20 for 2A.
