Aramac Caravan Park, Aramac

Booker Street. At entry to town from Muttaburra direction. Ph: 07 4651 3311. Pets allowed.

This small van & camping park is run by the local council, who do a good job of maintaining & cleaning the facilities. It only has 8 powered sites but there is lots of space to set up unpowered or run a long electrical lead. The park is attached to the show/sports ground so there would be times when it could be very noisy & dusty. Park payment is by the honesty system, go to the council office or put the money in an envelope & send it to council. Very good value for money ($10 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free). Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: The noise of the roadtrains going over the cattle grid just outside the park. All roads into the town have grids to stop cattle from wandering the streets
Roads: Roads into & out of Aramac are sealed but are narrow & the surface is quite rough in places. Be sure to get off the road if a truck is coming or you will be buying a windscreen

Lake Dunn Campground, Aramac
http://www.barcaldinerc.qld.gov.au/tourismaramac
68 kms north east of Aramac. Ph: 07 4651 0565. Pets allowed.

This is a caravan & camping area beside Lake Dunn (a large freshwater lake) in the middle of nowhere. I'm told that fishing is good at certain times of the year (should have been here last week). There is power if you can find the outlet, they are scattered around in the trees or on poles because of the flooding in rainy times. There is a brand new toilet block, well maintained by the council & fees apply & are collected by the owners of the nearby property. The area is maintained by council but is privately owned; is used from time to time by a water ski club & has a number of dilapidated shacks along the waterfront with a clubhouse (a tin shack) which sells alcohol. If you have a boat I imagine it is worth the trip from Aramac but otherwise there is little to get excited about, 68kms to camp in the wilderness isn't a "must do". Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, there was adequate hot water. Sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, poor water quality. Mobile wireless not available.

Landsborough Hwy. Entering from S on Matilda Hwy 1.5 kms from town (51-65 Box Street). Ph: 07 4651 6066. Top Tourist member. Pets allowed, on leash at all times.

Manager's name is David & Cheryl Wall. A very friendly welcoming park, Cheryl told us about what's on offer in Barcaldine and gave us very personalised service. David greeted us at our site and guided us in - it was the nicest welcome we've had so far on our trip. The sites are mostly drive-thru, nicely grassed and easy to negotiate with shade trees. There is a big open space where the kids have been able to run and play. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($32 2A 2C per night, powered). We paid $29 because of Top Tourist discount. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, dry change area, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good camp kitchen, dump point, book swap available, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Plenty of shade. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The main thing we were very impressed with was the warm welcome we received from both Cheryl and David. We also really enjoyed seeing kangaroos grazing right outside our van and a pair of brolgas performing for us. The grassy well maintained sites are also a pleasure.
Dislikes: The park is located right on the highway, so you would expect some road noise, however this hasn't been a major issue and we managed a good night's sleep.
Added Touches: Damper & billy tea (April - September) on Tuesday, Thursday, Friday & Sunday with yarns & bush poetry by Tom Lockie. Happy Hour (April - September) on Monday, Wednesday & Saturday at the fire pit.
Local Information: The Tree of Knowledge is pretty spectacular and there is also the Australian Workers Heritage Centre to visit.
Roads: Road between Charleville and Barcaldine is OK, there is currently some road work in progress, but this didn't delay us for long.

Nice country park in a nice but small town. Go to lots of effort with happy hour - free cuppas and damper, singer and bush yarns. Amenities average but clean. They close showers for ages in the mornings despite them all being separate unisex types. Have 6 cubicles and we left showers till morning after the rush and all doors were locked even though no-one there cleaning - asked and told to come back in half an hour and they were still closed. Same deal next day. We moved on. Otherwise nice green well kept park and catering well for grey nomads. Friendly staff, staff helped us at the site. Good value for money ($26 2A, powered, peak season). We paid $23.40 because of Top Tourist. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Manager's name is David. We stayed for 10 days and found it to be very peaceful apart from the road trains during the day, but we were happy to put up with that as the park was so very nice, the grass was green and nice with drive through sites separated with palm trees. There were unisex ensuites and separate toilets as well. They were always very clean and tidy. I know it was off peak but it would cope very well in peak times. David was very helpful with any queries at all. It was well worth the cost. We will definitely stay here again when in this area. Laundry is clean with almost new machines and dryers. Camp kitchen well equipped. No concrete slabs but the grass is very good and well maintained. This is a very small park behind the Barcoo Hotel and needs to be accessed via a laneway (Spring Lane) down one of the side streets (Coronation Drive) of the main street, but is not that hard to find. Ph: 07 4657 4197. No pets allowed.

Booked into the other caravan park in town but we couldn't even disconnect the van because of the slope of the ground and was going to stay in the free-camp area when we spotted the signs for the Barcoo area. Went in for a look and stayed for a few days. Excellent value charged $20.00 for the first night which included a $5.00 voucher for a meal at the pub. Wonderful BBQ steak dinner available the first night. Each night thereafter only $15.00. Meals were excellent. Expected a bit of noise but there was none and management won't allow any noise from patrons. So very quiet overall and only a short walk through the drive thru out onto the main street. Only a basic park of about 12 sites but suited those that were there. Patrons use the hotel guest amenities. Very friendly staff. Very good value for money ($15.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Off Isisfornd/Blackall Road, to the south of the town center. Call at the Tourist Info Centre first. This is on the S side of the main street. There is a $5.00 fee payable here and they will direct you to the area, which is basically behind the shops further down the street. The river is more often than not dry, but the camp site is level and mowed by Council. There are some large shady trees for the early birds and there are usually some other vans for company. There is an amenities block in a side street past the Tourist Info Centre on the same side. It is a couple of mins walk from the camp area but there are hot showers provided.

Park is spread either side of Hart Lane; we were on the western side. Camp dinners advertised to start in May, but hadn't started when we left on 3rd. Amenities blocks are prefab type, with 2 showers & toilets for men and women, plus 2 unisex bathrooms (shower, toilet, basin). Town water comes hot from the bore, hot water has a very strong unpleasant sulphur smell. The locals are very casual about water use, you might have to run the water for up to 10 mins before it gets hot. Reasonable size showers with curtain, step into shower from good dry area might be a bit high if you are a bit frail. A park that you would stay overnight. The local aquatic centre is worth a visit for a warm artesian spa. When I stayed in July, the spa water was not quite as warm as I would have liked. Park had quite good entertainment between 5 - 6pm for gold coin donation. Offered camp kitchen roast dinner for $18 per head. Friendly staff. Poor value for money ($24 2A, powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable. Blackall Showground, Blackall
On the right hand side of the highway on entering Blackall from the south. This is used as an overflow for the local caravan park during peak period. Pets allowed.

Plenty of room for pets to roam. The van park charges $20 of which $10 goes to the local council. The showers by the gate, where most vans sited themselves, were awful but while walking the dog I found excellent amenities blocks further around the showground. Turned out the showground was a good alternative as the van park was very muddy and needed duckboards. Good value for money ($20 2A per night, peak season). Sites are set up as drive through, van is on roadway with raised grass area for annex. However, in busy times they put 2 vans in each bay, so only early arrivals actually get to drive through. No pathway through to amenities, so if in outer row you have to walk through other peoples sites to get to amenities. Reasonable showers, with bench and several hooks, no curtain but half wall enclosing wet area, wire shower caddy over shower head, outward opening doors. Park patrons have access to public pool next door, although when we were there it was closed for renovations. Staff helped us at the site. $25 2A per night, powered. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Likes: Grassed area next to each site.
Dislikes: Railway yard next to park but it wasn't particularly noisy. Raised concrete edges on sites could make it difficult to get into site if it was full, though as park had lots of empty sites when we were there everybody was able to drive through to sites making parking easy.

Likes: Convenient
Dislikes: They help you at site, but if you don't park just right, it takes ages to get out of site as each side of van has raised concrete and too narrow.

Likes: Was escorted to site, assisted in reversing into caravan bay. Caravan site was actually a bay with "curbs", with the grassed awning/annexe area raised about 150mm. Nice touch
Dislikes: It didn't worry us particularly, but the site described above, was immediately adjacent to the Hughenden rail terminal. Not particularly noisy on the night we stayed.
Parking: Parking for maybe 2 rigs outside of office
Local Information: Tried to visit Porcupine Gorge, found unsealed sections of the road out (73km), too rough for Ford sedan.
Roads: Winton to Hughenden: The road between Winton & Hughenden was a bit of an enigma when we were based in Longreach for three days. Plenty of reports from well meaning individuals, most who haven't travelled on said road. Horrific stories of single lane road that the road trains would push you off the road onto soft edges. Fact: About 10 - 15 km of narrow but 2 lane road at the Winton end. Then road opens up to good C class road, with the exception of about 30km of roadworks, which only slowed us to about 60k (speed limits). Bitumen all the way apart from road works. (Road works were fine, but we did travel three days clear of rain.) Having heard horror stories of road trains, now situated N of Townsville, I have found that the road trains travel at reasonable speeds, give you as much room as the can, and are responsible profession drivers!

Between Barcaldine and Longreach, on the Capricorn Hwy, 27km SE of Longreach on the Matilda Hwy, next to the Wellshot Pub. Ph: 07 4658 1510. Pets at manager's discretion, on leash at all times.

Manager's name is Kathy and Jesse. Very hard park to rate. The owners are without doubt the best we've met in 3 years - so obliging, love their work, will do anything to please. The park is 24 kms out of Longreach and we travelled in each day but it was worth it for the fun we had. Each evening they have a happy hour session with the funniest entertainment - the owners Kathy and Jesse do most of it but others get up too. The facilities are average (clean but old) but it didn't seem to matter as everyone got to know each other and share a really great time and a laugh. Oodles of hot water - would stay here again any opportunity we have. You can always find great modern parks around Australia but this sort of experience is worth a small compromise on facilities. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($25 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, good rec room, dump point, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open & roomy park. Wood bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Awesome happy hour - great entertainment and good fun - we really enjoyed our stay
Dislikes: Amenities were old and a bit tired but ample water and clean so did the job ok.
Added Touches: Free happy hour with nibblies supplied and the craziest owners who make sure all their guest have a great laugh and lots of fun. Do both hilarious bush poetry/yarns and jokes with great animation.
Local Information: Qantas day awesome - very good value. We did the museum, the plane tour and hubby did wing walk all for $128 total for both of us which was really good value. Stage coach and starlight performance at McKinnons good as well. Hall of Fame lovely museum building but mainly things to read - not much 'real' stuff to see.

Friendly staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($24 2A per night, powered, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, poor night lighting, concrete annex slabs to some sites, very few sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site. Poor laundry, basic rec room. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no pool, no bbqs. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: The happy hour (an hour of joke-telling and bush poetry by the owners/managers) is the only point of recommendation for this park. This did not make up for the substandard amenities or the modest price.
Dislikes: Main toilets/showers are cramped and old. There are some new, self-contained demountable bathrooms at the back of the park, but they are not well-advertised, only two out of four were open, and there was no power on at night time. The park got very muddy and messy (as did the amenities) in the rain we encountered, and this was made worse because all of the camping trailers, including us, were sent to the lowest point of the park, and with no power or water nearby (some power leads were plugged into outside power points on the toilet walls). A big covered recreation area for the happy hour, but no camp kitchen.
Local Information: Ilfracombe is worth a half-day visit if you like looking at old machinery (plenty of that along the highway), but most local attractions are in Longreach, and the charms of Ilfracombe and the modest tariff for the caravan park did not make up for the expense or time taken to drive to Longreach.

Manager's name is Jess & Cathy Hitson. These people bend over backwards to ensure you enjoy yourself. Worth staying there just for the free entertainment. Make sure you book early, don't try the same day. They helped us in the van spot, when we were leaving they moved us to a drive through so we could leave early. They give you a discount petrol card for the shell at Longreach when leaving and provide a key for the local artesian spa. Like all van parks around here they get muddy after rain. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($24 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Manager's name is Cathy & Jesse Hitson. A small caravan park on the main road on eastern edge of the tiny and historic town of Ilfracombe. Lawn sites at front of park. Caravan sites at rear are dirt, and some have annex slabs. Additional block of individual bathrooms are opened when needed. Town dump point adjacent. This park only just falls short of the perfect score of 5 due to lack of a designated disability bathroom, although some of the toilets and showers are big enough to be used by someone with mobility limitations with a bit of assistance and this has occurred. Discuss your needs with the owners. Cabins beautifully presented and decorated, offering very good value for the area at $85 for single and $95 for twin roomed cabins. Some early noise from road, nearby pub and dogs in the town. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Likes: Very friendly and helpful hostess; came out and showed us sites, helping us choose the one best suited to us. Lovely bathrooms; roomy and nicely tiled, doors open outwards (safety feature), shower curtains to keep dressing area dry, floor mats provided. Flowers on vanity add to homely decor. Bench to sit on in bathroom. Book exchange, with all funds going to local P&C.
Added Touches: Happy hour with nibblies provided, and entertainment by Jesse. Fuel discount vouchers for a Longreach fuel station.
Local Information: Ilfracombe is a heritage town, known mostly for its machinery mile - a collection of rural machinery which runs the entire length of the main street. There are other collections and places of interest in this historic town. Call in to the Wellshot centre and view a video on the history of a nearby Wellshot station. Lack of basic suitable amenities; those provided either did not work properly or did not work at all. We were told to use the female toilets and shower but there was a green slime pool all around the entrance. Our water tap did not work at all. Power worked but only after we located the main power box and turned it on ourselves. Stay here if you just need power. In fairness one toilet did work but the interior was very dirty. The family running the park and roadhouse seemed friendly enough but had a very casual attitude to customers. Price charged made it bearable. Suitable for one night, not for a long stay. Watch out for hot shower, if somebody turns on cold water at sink you will get scalded. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff helped us at the site. Poor value for money ($10.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is bad. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites. No wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Quiet, not enough shade, no permanents. UC bbq, bbq area lighting. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Not much to like, staff friendly enough but 'could not care less' attitude.
Dislikes: Our main dislike was the lack of adequate toilets and showers. This park is right beside the main highway about 50m from sites be prepared for trucks driving past during the night.
Parking: Plenty of room to park.
Local Information: Como waterhole turnoff about 20kms from town on Winton side; this is Waltzing Matilda country.

Discovery Holiday Park, Longreach
Click here for park details on My Park List
Formerly the Gunnadoo Caravan Park. 12 Thrush Rd. South side of Longreach next to the Stockman's Hall Of Fame. Turn into Thrush Road off Capricorn Hwy on eastern end of town near IFS service station. Ph: 07 4658 1781 or 1800 356 099. Beston Parks and Top Tourist member. Pets at manager's discretion.

Local Information: In season do go on the Thompson River cruise "Thompson Belle" paddle steamer. Bus pick up, cruise, off to bush camp feed and bush poet stories, cruise and bus home. Visit Stockman's Hall of Fame, Qantas Museum, same end of town as park.

This large park recently acquired by the Discovery Holiday Parks chain is very popular as might be expected in a town with many iconic tourist attractions. It is a member of the Top Tourist chain. Sites range from very small to large enough for a sizeable motor home. The park itself is rather dusty and would benefit from planting of more trees, as shade is by and large inadequate in many parts of the park, and Longreach can be a very hot place. Some of the slabs are broken and need replacement. I was initially allocated a site that comprised two slabs, not level at right angles to one another and badly fractured such that they were a trip hazard. I asked to relocate to another site nearby that was vacant and my request was granted. The office staff did not appear to have a good working knowledge of the condition of the sites, as I felt that the site I was initially allocated should not have been available for use at all. 3 out the 5 washing machines in the amenities I was closest too were booked out of order as was the public telephone near the office. Although it appears that a bit of a makeover is being undertaken by the Discovery Group this seems to relate mostly to superficial items like repainting facilities in the corporate colours rather than maintaining or upgrading essential facilities like the washing machines. That said, the toilets and shower areas and camp kitchen were in good condition. This park is good for mobility impaired persons. The town centre, the Qantas Founders Outback Museum, and the Stockman's Hall of Fame can be easily reached on a mobility scooter or power chair, via the Linear Botanic Garden that runs along the Landsborough Highway adjacent to the park. It is also relatively easy to get around the park itself although ruts and corrugations caused by rain can be hazardous if one is not careful.

The park is by far the best one in town. The amenities are clean and tidy although some maintenance on hooks and door catches are needed. The sites are big and suit all sorts of vans and motorhomes. Dirt sites with grey water emptied onto the ground. Close to a couple of the main attractions in town, QANTAS and the Hall of Fame. Kinnon & Co is the other tourist place in the centre of the main street, although they pick you up at the park for the cruise. Our only gripe is the office staff are very abrupt. They are not friendly and do not seem to like answering questions. We would consider bypassing Longreach next time as there is no other suitable accommodation other than staying in the free camp just outside town alongside the Thomsen River. Unfriendly staff, average staff response to complaints. Reasonable value for money ($32 2A, powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites. Basic laundry, no rec room, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground. Clean pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Likes: Big sites and plenty of hot water.
Dislikes: Abruptness & unfriendliness of office staff
Local Information: Plenty of attractions - The highlight is Kinnon & Co Stagecoach and Cruise and QANTAS Founders Museum tours in the 707 & 747

Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Huge park (about 300 sites), dusty roads and fairly bare sites. At least half the sites are drive through, and are reasonably spacious. We had an ensuite site, nice and bright ensuite with large cupboard to unpack into and reasonable bench space. Separate glass shower cubicle. 'Instant' hot water. Park has a swimming pool (clean, not heated, no cover) but it is quite small and if the park was full then they couldn't all fit in even standing shoulder to shoulder. Brolgas and kangaroos wander around the park. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. $40 2A per night, ensuite. We paid $36 because of TT discount. Sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Kiosk, dump point, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Clean UC bbq (free), bbq area lighting.
Dislikes: Although there are multiple amenities/laundry blocks, some sites are a long way away and the laundry facilities would be woefully inadequate if the park was full.
Added Touches: On-site bar/restaurant with pub style meals and country music or karaoke every night.

The park is close to the main attractions in Longreach. It is in two parts, an older section with old amenities and a new section with very good new amenities. We stayed for a few days before the big wet set in. Found the owners helpful and willing to provide knowledge regarding flooded roads. Given upgrade to ensuite site without asking as park was not busy. Found amenities clean and in good order. Big park with lots of sites, some on bare ground with gravel road frontage with others having concrete pads and ensuites. The gravel (all pebble) was put down to stop the ground turning to mud and worked well yet still pooled in some areas. A great place for a short stay as most things in the area can be seen in a few days. Would use the park as stop over as the town has most travel resources on hand. Restaurant was closed during our stay. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, very few sites are shaded, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No playground. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Staff still willing to seek out and provide best possible travel routes after check out. Clean amenities. Central to town. Felt welcome.

Longreach Caravan Park, Longreach

180 Ibis Street, 300m west of PO. Ph: 07 4658 1770. All pets allowed.

I must preface this item by saying Longreach is a "must stop" town for a couple of days. There is so much to see & do & the entire place is so photogenic. The only downside is the 2 caravan parks, one is outrageously expensive & this one is nothing but a dump. This park is not run-down because it never got up to get run down. 1/3 of the site is taken over by rubbish, broken down equipment, front loader, old broken caravans, piles of dirt & rock, trailers slashers & old cars. The toilet block should be pushed over & rebuilt; there's paint flaking off walls, red dirt all over the floors, black grime on shower walls, doors with the bottom rotted off etc. The operator looks like he has spent the last week working in the rubbish dump & his wife doesn't come up much better. They keep booking people in until there is nowhere left uncovered, vans get put beside the toilet door, beside the clothes line, right on top of each other. I had 2 motor bikers put beside my awning to camp on the ground & then a car behind me with 2 women & 2 large dogs to camp on the ground & in their car. Power is by portable leads from tree to tree with block adaptors on block adaptors then for you to plug into there are some power poles but they are real primitive like the water down pipes which are plastic pipe sticking out of the ground with a tap on it. There are a 100 caravans camped on the creek outside town & this park (with a charge of $29 per night) is the reason they are there. The property should be condemned by council & then by the electricity supplier & shut down. People were seen using the toilets to dump cassettes; cleanliness & sanitation doesn't exist. Pay the extra to stop at the Top Tourist & see the sights of Longreach. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($29 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). We paid $27 because of senior disc. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, no permanents. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Closeness to town
Dislikes: Being jammed cheek by jowl with other campers. Having the operator decide to start the front loader at 6.00pm & shift piles of dirt causing us to suffer dust & diesel fumes until I went & asked him to stop. Then I could cook tea
Parking: Stay on street
Added Touches: Billy tea morning & afternoon

Longreach Water Reserve, Longreach
Same as the Apex Riverside park The park offers 4 nights free accommodation to travellers. It has a covered BBQ area and male/female toilets. Rest area located on the river 4 kms NW of Longreach (left side, coming from Mt. Isa).

While this is not a caravan park, it is an excellent stop for the night, or even 3 nights as some people we spoke to had stayed. You cannot see this spot from the road, but when we drove in and turned left around the corner we were surprised to find more vans/buses/mobile homes then we had seen in some parks. We counted 19 in all, with more to come in before sundown. This is a big level dirt area with toilets, water (not for drinking), tables, firespots, few trees, and very suitable for buses and large vans. We had a very enjoyable quiet and peaceful night there. Highly recommended.

Park is reasonably well grassed and they obviously go to a lot of effort to keep it that way. Most sites are long and narrow, but there are bushes between them so you don't feel too crowded. There are 2 amenities blocks, the one we were near had 3 individual bathrooms (shower cubicle with curtain, toilet and basin) each for men and women, the other one was more traditional but we didn't check it out. While the individual bathrooms are nice when you are using them, it means that if people are having showers or cleaning their teeth there aren't any toilets available. There is a separate section of the park for permanents. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. $32 2A per night, powered. We paid $28.80 because of BIG4 discount. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, late checkout allowed, dump point, secure entry, van parking, book swap available, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground in good condition. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: Friendly staff, from office staff to grounds to cleaners are all friendly. Staff showed us to our sites and helped with reversing, which was much appreciated. The sites were mainly shady, which was great on hot days. Lawned sites, and from previous reviews, it seems there has been a lot of work done - e.g. bindii under control, we didn't see any. Lawns well watered, and nice unpowered area available for tents, also lawned, some shaded. Gardens well maintained, around cabins, and office, etc.
Parking: parking lane available
Added Touches: During "winter" season, Visitor Centre staff at camp kitchen, morning tea on Wednesday mornings, advise guests of attractions in Mt Isa and surrounds; Saturdays music entertainment in late afternoons. Regular courtesy buses to the Irish and Buffs Club.

Nice park on the outskirts of town, away from the hustle and bustle of the town centre. Park located on highway but not too much noise can be heard from the caravan part of the park, cabins are close to the road. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($28 2A, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Good laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen. Quiet.
Likes: Large site, mostly grassy, good location, quiet at night, clean amenities.
Dislikes: Lots of toilets and showers however, all toilet doors too large and you have to stand beside toilet to close door. Shower cubicles average size, however, dressing area of shower way too small and I kept bumping my elbows on the walls when getting dressed.

Manager's name is Aallan & Elaine. We stayed here 3 years ago but since then the park is under new management. They don't appear to be spending any money on the caravan sites as no watering appears to have been done for ages as there is hardly any grass and the park is a virtual dust bowl. Also when we were here last there was afternoon tea and scones supplied by the park management, but this has now ceased. There are three amenity blocks; one is by the cabins and swimming pool and quite a distance from the caravan sites, the second block was nearer to our site and sorely in need of upgrade, the third block was down the end of the park nearest the tent sites and camp kitchen. We wonder how the park maintains its BIG4 4-star rating. Sites were small with only a few concrete slabs. The park was almost full when we were there. The hot water didn't need any cold added. There were some sites, and we had one, which was very difficult to get into, you had to back in and uphill. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($26 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, van parking. Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No permanents. Clean bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Just out of town so away from local noise.
Dislikes: Sites too small and you feel as though you are on top of each other. No grass, its like being in a dustbowl.
Parking: Outside reception.
Local Information: Lots to do in and around Mt Isa.
Roads: Road from Cloncurry not too bad.

Copper City Riverside Caravan Park, Mount Isa

185-195 West St. Situated approximately 1 km from the main part of town. Coming in to Mt Isa from Cloncurry way continue along road in until you get to West Street (fire station on corner) and turn right, follow this all the way down to the end - can't miss the park. Ph: 07 4743 4676. Dicovery Parks member. All pets allowed.

From end August this park will no longer be a Family Parks member but Discovery Parks. They are already starting to change the signage. Park has been formed by joining together of 2 original parks. One section is almost all ensuite sites, the other is powered sites, plus a separate section of miner dormitories. Both sections have a large number of permanents. We had an ensuite site. Reasonable sized ensuite in good condition with nice bright tiling. However, very little in the way of windows meant that it was always dark without the light on, plus had poor ventilation. No cupboard and virtually no bench space for unpacking onto, just a bench seat. No power point and no rubbish bin. Hooks rather than a towel rail. Separate shower cubicle with curtain. Hot water is very hot and strong, be careful turning on the shower as the cold water is barely adequate. Park is pretty dusty and there isn't much grass. Staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. $32 2A per night, ensuite. We paid $28.80 because of chain discount. Sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, basic camp kitchen, dump point, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Quiet, claustrophobic park. Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for few days, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: Dump point is really just a drain with a too short piece of hose, making it very difficult to use. Only the one dump point for both sections, so miles from the ensuite sites.

Manager's name is Stewart & Jenny. We found the staff to be very helpful, they helped us to our spot, even helped guide us in to place. The grounds are dry, but we are in the outback. The camp kitchen was very good and a good place to meet people. The managers are new and seem to have good ideas and gumption to bring the park back to shape. The staff went well beyond the required level to ensure we were made to feel like we are family. Very nice. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice Good value for money ($26.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, ensuite sites available, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: I liked the camp kitchen area, we were able to meet other people who were travelling. The managers came down on the Sunday night and cooked up and ate with everyone. Must have been about 50 people there. A good night was had by all.
Dislikes: A little dusty, but you have to expect this where we are - it is Mt Isa.
Parking: there were plenty of off road parking.
Added Touches: Yes we are on the river, sorry no water. But the managers did have a sausage sizzle and raised money. There is a free pick up service for a few of the clubs, for dinner and a drink.
Local Information: We went out to two clubs and the meals were very good, service was average.
Roads: The road was ok. There was a lot of road works after the floods. I am sure it will be better once they have finished the repairs.

Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($163.80 2A per week powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, dump point. Noisy, claustrophobic park, too much shade, too many permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is open to the sun. Suitable for a few days.
Dislikes: Dump point is a drain with a meter of hose on a tap nearby. Doesn't look hygienic, and wonder where the dump goes Miners use a large facility at the rear of the park, and start shifts at 5.30am, with constant stream of 4WD and trucks through park.
Parking: Copper City and Riverside caravan parks combined. Copper City used to be attractive, if basic, park with ensuites and a reasonable fee. Since being bought out, Copper City has become an overpriced shanty town.
Local Information: TV reception - ABC digital. Analog OK, but some ghosting. Mobile phone reception - Good. Auto gas available locally. Alcohol restrictions in force. No sales before 12. No car, no sale. But not as bad as other towns in Central NT and Qld.

Friendly reception, then we drove further down West Street to the park and were met on site and guided in. This park has been reduced in size since we first stayed in 1995 and has not changed for the better. Despite its name there is now no access to, or view of, the Leichhardt River, which is usually dry anyway. We had a reasonably grassed site with annexe pad and afternoon shade, but other sites seemed very dusty and bare although well shaded. Generally park had an untidy, unkempt and run-down appearance and needs some TLC. For example, when we connected our water the whole tap collapsed and we had to call management to turn off the water to the park and fix it - it had been held together only by the rust. However in fairness the amenities were very good, with screened door access, large shower cubicles with curtains, soap and paper towels provided, and very clean. On downside, laundry is miles away from the amenities block behind a metal fence and appears to be part of the adjacent Workers Camp. Swimming pool seemed clean and inviting although too cold to use in June. There are a large number of permanents, and tourist sites are scattered around the park so there was a lack of the usual camaraderie. Cost of $26 per night 2A for powered site before Family Parks discount considered reasonable. Suitable for short term stay.
Date 06/2008. Park Rating 2.5: We would stay again if necessary but have experienced better parks in Mt Isa.

Stayed 2 nights, $22.50 per night, OZ Parks discount. Plus $10.00 deposit for key. Friendly reception. Lots of permanents (some untidy) with some tourist parking at the back. We were given Site C3, a long dirt drive-through site at the front near the office. Easy to drive in and plenty of space. Very little shade, but other sites did have shade. Two amenities blocks, clean but in need of upgrade. I asked why everything was locked, amenities, dump site, and even the laundry had wire gates. I was told that it had always been like that. Clean swimming pool near office. We had some noise in the night from the locals having a fight in the street. Some noise during the day because of tar upgrading on the roads in the park, but that is a good thing as it will mean less dust. On the whole this park was ok and we would probably stay again.

We have stayed in this park a few times and each time have had a difficult site to negotiate. This was the hardest. Previously we had been guided onto the site. This time there was no offer of assistance and when we asked, the manager just said - this is your site, your van goes there. We were not impressed and it took quite a bit of wrangling to get the van on site. On leaving we found it easier to wait for a neighbouring van to leave so we could exit through his site. Likes: Overlooking beautiful artificial lake.
Dislikes: 7 nights for price of 6 given only during tourist season. Off season the discount doesn't apply - don't want to encourage longer visits during the off season When queried the owner contacted council which agreed to give us the discount. Argentine ants were a problem - also invisible biting insects which made a good meal of us - though they seemed to prefer my blood to the wife's!
Local Information: TV reception - Some interference on all channels. Satellite dish easy to set up. Mobile phone reception - Good. Autogas available locally. Liked town/region. Autogas very expensive - paid over $1.20 a litre. Petrol and diesel prices out of sight! Pubs used to give good meals (three years ago) but, having changed hands since, the prices have gone up while the quality has dropped. Though Mud Hut pub did a reasonable takeaway pizza - on Sundays only. Kronosaur Korner worth a visit.
Roads: Three caravans had damage to tow coupling while we were there. Road approaching town a bit bumpy, but don't understand why so many vans damaged.

Stonehenge is SW of Longreach, halfway to Windorah. On main road through Stonehenge, diagonally opposite the pub. Ph: 07 4658 6133. Dogs on leash.

May possibly class this as a campground. It consisted of a nice flat area that would accommodate 8 vans comfortably, 10 at a squeeze. There are 2 power heads that will supply 6 vans with 15 m leads. The picnic shelter and amenities over to the side between the hard standing and the side street. Price was as expected, good value for money ($10 2A per night powered). Likes: Nice flat and open, other travellers were friendly. No through traffic at night.
Dislikes: Nothing - the facilities were limited but the park was in keeping with the size of the town.
Parking: No booking needed, no one in attendance, plenty of space on the outside roads to park whilst casing the joint.

The road is flat and dusty when dry and possibly very slippery when wet. Would advise seeking local knowledge in these circumstances - possibly from Rangers Office. Camping fees are in an honesty box; $4.50 per person per day. Ranger calls each day to empty box and do his rounds. Plenty of shady trees along water hole. No water but drop toilet is provided. No fires or rubbish disposal. Quite a secure camp due to its distance off the highway and there are usually other campers for company.

Long Waterhole, Winton
Using town bypass take the Winton-Jundah Road (this is also the road to Bladensburg National Park) leading from beside the towns caravan parking lot. Follow road for 2k; turn left at 'Waterhole' sign into dirt road across a common area (fairly corrugated in parts) for 2k. Parking spots either to right of dam wall or across dam wall road to other side; numerous sites around the waterhole. Pets allowed.

Lovely peaceful spot close to town with great bird life & daily whistling kites in the dozens. There are some weeds so may need to put mesh down at van entrance. Some shady sites, some sunny, all beautiful outlook. No amenities, no bins, no water. Can fish but only 'throw-backs' caught. Water is available beside tap in Travellers Park at northern end of main street, enter from main street can take van down a dirt track and exit onto the bypass road. Dump point in the large shaded caravan carpark beside the Jundah Road opposite the back entrance to the Matilda Centre (can walk through to it). Public toilets in side street past the Matilda Centre or inside if centre is open. Lots to do in this area and no restrictions on length of stay. The Waterhole was well patronised every day we were there (5 days/4 nights). Sites will accommodate medium to large vans, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Park manager Tammy very pleasant and helpful with choosing site, and also checking on welfare of residents following a huge storm one evening. Very basic park, amenities are clean but lack shelves or enough hooks in shower recesses. Washing machines in open-air between Ladies and Gents. Water pressure not bad if no-one else is using at the same time. Did not need to use the hot tap at all as water was hot enough out of the cold one. Not sure if the other manager works on site - 36 hours after large storm, at least 10 rubbish bins still lying around the park and broken branches still strewn throughout. Did not get a very friendly response from him when I reported a leak in the amenities - but he may have had a hard day. Unable to visit Lark Quarry as it closed down 10 days ago due to a structural fault, so worth checking before going to Winton if that is on your list. We did go to Longreach for the day, and that was worth the drive. Waltzing Matilda Centre will easily fill in 3-4 hours - magnificent. Is also TIC and Westpac Bank facilities. North Gregory Hotel does not do lunches, but other hotels do and RSL bistro was to re-open on 31st October. We had a nice evening meal at BP Roadhouse next door to park.

Manager's name is Mick & Tammy. We arrived at this park for a two night stay just after the Winton Festival had finished. It's dusty and basic as you would probably expect for this part of the world. Average staff friendliness. Reasonable value for money ($32 2A 2C per night, powered). Amenities are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, there was adequate hot water. Basic laundry, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Clean pool.
Likes: There were some baby animals that the kids really enjoyed, apparently these were there for the festival.
Dislikes: No information about the park or local area were provided - the extent of our welcome was "see that log, park over there" - perhaps the owners were a bit worn out after the festival, but we certainly wouldn't rush back. Our rating would have been 2, but we gave an extra half a point for the baby animals.
Local Information: Lark Quarry is about 110km from Winton and well worth a visit. The Waltzing Matilda Centre is well done and we learnt a lot about our national song. The kids really enjoyed making a lot of noise at the musical fence.

This is a park with two parts. One area has nicely appointed campsites with water and power close by. The other part is like a can of sardines nestled in bull dust. This critique is on the area we were allocated, the can of sardines. Power and water were only close by for half the occupants. Our neighbour had to run his hose and power cord under our van to access water and electricity. We don't know why we were given this site as we arrived in plenty of time [lunch time] and we later found there were plenty of vacancies in the nicer part. A frequently used rail line runs just outside the fence line and across the road is a very busy truck stop. There are two sorts of amenities. One older style and two demountable. All have the same facilities. The shower area has no caddy of any type to hold soap etc. The dry area has only two small hooks. Completely inadequate for towel and clothes especially during colder months. We have stayed in parks in areas with much less to offer the tourist trade which would leave this park for dead. This the third time we've stayed here and have camped in both sections of the park so know that this wasn't an unusual experience. Poor value for money ($28 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans over 18ft, very few sites have annexe slabs, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, poor water quality. Poor laundry, dump point, book swap, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2). Noisy, claustrophobic park.

Manager's name is Mick & Tammy. Dusty park, our site was so narrow that we couldn't open the passenger door in the car as it was too close to the van. Park is in 2 sections, one is well-treed and shady, the other is bare. There are no barbecues in the park, they have roast dinner available every night, maybe they want you to have that. The showers are good sized with curtains and a step into the shower, but there is no shelf or bench in the dry section so you have to put your stuff on the floor. Water pressure was variable, so showers pulsed hot and cold a bit. No maintenance was done in the 4 days we were there, despite some showers and toilets being out of order. Soap dispensers in the amenities were not refilled while we were there. There appear to be ample light poles in the park, but they are not turned on at night, not even the ones directly outside the amenities block, so it is very dark. Staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. $28 2A per night, powered. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for few days.
Added Touches: Bush poets every night in season, roast dinners available every night, tours available.

Manager's name is Tammy and Mick. This is a no-frills park with all the basic facilities. The park's water is derived from the Great Artesian Basin and it stinks. However if you leave it standing or boil it before use the water is fine. Once you get over the smell in the shower it is very refreshing and very soft and the ladies love it for washing their hair. The smell does not linger on the body after a shower. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($26 2A, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Likes: Very friendly staff. Very close to a BP Roadhouse for a quick take-away, fuel and car products.
Dislikes: The water takes a bit of getting used to. Some sites are very small and you do need to specify your van size when booking. A fair bit of road and truck braking noise from the BP Roadhouse.

Manager's name is Steve and Narelle Lenton. The new managers in this park appear to be trying to make improvements. We were shown to a dusty site and then five minutes later the manager arrived with a large fake grass mat and placed this down as an annex pad. We observed they went through this process with each new arrival. The park seems to have been redesigned since our last visit with many sites now angled for easier backing. The amenities looked unchanged since our last visit. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($25.00 2A per night, powered). Behind the hall at the end of the street (there is only one street). Pets allowed.

Manager's name is Bob & Kath. This small park is just brand new, built by the council & maintained by the above mentioned. There are only 6 sites, all with power, water, slabs & the best part is there is NO CHARGE; they just love to see someone visit. The toilet block is pristine, there's plenty of hot water, the only downside is you need to do washing by hand. Yaraka is on the Windorah to Blackall road, in some fabulous scenery with escarpments, mesa's, the Barcoo river, a lookout near the town which is spectacular. Along the way is the Welford National Park if you camp at the causeway or in the park there is plenty of fish to catch. We caught 4 each 2kg yellowbelly in just one hour on prawns brought from the coast & slips of ox heart. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, no sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Peaceful, open & roomy park. Clean UC electric bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for few days, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Local Information: This "town" has a population of one policeman & 14 residents, a shop which opens on demand, & a hotel which I believe serves meals, but it was closed when we were there the publican had gone away & would be back the next day.
Roads: generally the dirt roads are in good shape, with stretches of bitumen, but there are sections of stone which can be quite rough. Caution is required at the cattle grids & at the floodways as these can be quite rough. This is not country to be in if it is wet or forecasting rain
