Okinja Road. Ph: 07 5443 2356 or 1800 629 292. Top Tourist member. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is Les & Margaret Woodbury. Average management. Poor value for money. Good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, were clean, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Poor sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, annexe slabs were available, hard to negotiate in to/out of site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, rec room, security entry to park. Park atmosphere was okay, quiet, shady park, too many permanents for this park. Clean UC bbq with seating provided. Good playground in good condition. Good clean pool with seating around the pool. Suitable for a few days, the park was well maintained.
Likes: Very clean laundry block with lots of washing machines and dryers. Open all day and night.
Dislikes: Very small sites, had to park the car in front of the caravan. Very close to neighbouring van. Mostly cabins. Had to ask for assistance to park van. Ensuites are the fibre class type and very hot during the day.
Parking: Good off-street parking.
Local Information: Close to beaches and shops just around the corner. 1.2km to Sunshine Plaza shopping centre. 45 minute drive to Montville. 35 minute drive to Eumundi Markets Wednesday and Saturday. Great meal at Mooloolaba Surf Club.
Roads: Good.

Glasshouse Mountains Holiday Village, Beerburrum
It's the second park on right after Beerburrum Station turnoff on Glasshouse Mountains Tourist Drive, or first on left after Glasshouse Mountains Sports Ground if coming from north. This is one of two parks in the immediate vicinity with a similar name (don't confuse the two). Easy to find - travelling north along Highway 1 from Brisbane, exit is marked "Glasshouse Mountains Tourist Drive". The tourist drive is a loop that exits back onto the main highway. Halfway along the tourist drive loop are two caravan parks, one of which is this Holiday Village. Ph: 07 5496 9338.
Manager's name is Guido Schouteten. Friendly staff, bad staff response to complaints, van parking assistance provided by staff. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($144.00 2A per week powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites. Poor laundry, basic rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon). Quiet, claustrophobic park, too much shade, too many permanents. All pets allowed. Gas bbq (pay), dismal bbq area atmosphere. No playground. Clean pool is open to sun. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Able to dump toilet waste in sullage point as all this drains to a sump at the rear of the park and is pumped out 3 times a week by local council.
Dislikes: This park is full of huge pine trees which drop heaps of pine cones. When they mow the park they use a ride on mower and don't rake up the pine cones before they mow. These pine cones then become missiles flung out from the mower that hit your car and your van and do damage to both. I found this to be infuriating and very unhospitable from management. Also at the time when they mowed the mower was set that low that it gouged into the ground, tore up the grass and tossed loads of dirt and dust into the air. This I found was absolutely ridiculous. I would never stay there again and I would never recommend this place to stay.
Parking: Yes parked in incoming driveway.
Local Information: Local attractions are the Glass House Mountains volcanic plugs, were nice to walk around and view. Many nice country drives in the area around pineapple farms and strawberry and fruit growing areas.
Roads: Good roads.

The Village is about 200m south of the service station / fruit market / supermarket. Management was friendly and spoke English, German, Dutch and French. The reception area had a kiosk, tourist info and a cafe (Devonshire Tea). The park seemed to be two parks rolled into one. We did not enjoy the claustrophobic site under the shade due to the large number of permanent residents in that section. However if we had been placed elsewhere in the park we would have enjoyed an open and welcoming atmosphere, quite suitable for longer term stay. In addition, the village contained good quality cabins at reasonable rates. The amenities block was old but clean and there was even a low set toilet at a perfect height for younger children. The main playground was set up for toddlers but elsewhere the park offered a deep pool, half size tennis court and table tennis. The rec room contained a snooker table, TV and lounge chairs. Outside the rec room was a basic camp kitchen with gas BBQ ($2). Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry. Pets at manager's discretion. Well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Local Information: The Glasshouse Mountains are the nearest attraction, but we were also pretty impressed with the meals at the local Chinese restaurant/takeaway.

Would have to rate as one of the worst - would never stay there again. Average management, poor value for money, very poor amenities, very poor sites, very poor atmosphere to park. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Allows dogs.
Dislikes: Dirty and poorly maintained amenities.

Average staff friendliness. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($23.00 2A per night). Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites. Basic laundry. Quiet, too many permanents. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: Its facilities are, at best, described as basic; the toilets and showers are simply a room within a shed, with tiny hand basins, and no bench space. There is no atmosphere in this park as it seems it caters for permanents; tourists are simply a sideline.
Date 06/2008. Park Rating 2.5: We would never return to this park.

Mountain View Caravan Park, Biggenden
Isis Highway. South-west of Childers. Ph: 07 4127 1399.
Manager's name is Doug and Adele. A well-kept park. Something of a surprise in that it is not advertised in most publications including Qld CIA or RACQ books. We only found it mentioned in CAMPs publication. Owned by local Council. It is extremely well maintained. Large sites with a lot of new slabs and power sources recently installed. Amenities are plentiful with 2 older blocks and 1 new one which is well designed and all are well maintained. Managers friendly and helpful. Excellent value for money, $20/night first night, second night free. Worth the 2 night stay. Recently completed Paradise Dam is nearby and is starting to fill and provide fishing. A number of National Parks cater for the hikers.

UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

This is a quiet park. The grounds are well maintained. It is truly water front, with high tide only basic boat ramp. The amenity blocks are tidy. There are basic and free gas BBQ's, a clean swimming pool, small shop, ULP fuel, water, slabs and power to most sites, plenty of grass and shady trees. The only downside for me was there was a few sandflies and at low tide there is miles of mud to get to the water. My kids love to play in the sand at the beach so this was a small issue. All in all we loved the park and will go back. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($35 2A 2C per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, kiosk, no playground. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Water front.
Dislikes: Sand flies.
Added Touches: Basic boat ramp, basic fish cleaning facilities.

Beerburrum Street (corner of Cooroy St), Dicky Beach. Turn right off Nicklin Way when travelling north from Brisbane. 100 metres from beach and shops over the road. Ph: 07 5491 3342. No pets allowed.
Stayed here earlier this year and really liked it as we were in the main area of the park near the beach. This time we had to go to the rear area where there are no slabs and many tents. As soon as the area filled up with tents for the weekend the amenities block was filthy and stayed that way for 2 days. Also very noisy at night being close to the road. Would not stay here again unless we were close to the beach. We arrived prior to 11.00am and were told we could not check in, even though our site was vacant and nothing was being done to it. Also, the staff could have been more friendly about it. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($33.00 2A per night, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Dump point, secure entry. Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade. Clean UC bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for few days.

Sugar Bowl Caravan Park, Childers
Travel north on Bruce Highway through Childers this park is on your left. On the Bruce highway 1.5 km north of the P.O. northern end of town just north of the new shopping complex. Ph: 07 4126 1521.
Situated just north of the town boundary this park looks attractive with lots of trees and grassy areas. There is a nice pool and a barbecue area. The first site we were allocated had a steep sideways slope and a pile of dried-up doggy dos right where we would step out of the van. We requested another site and were placed on a grassy area. There were no taps in the vicinity and we had to use an extra hose to get to a tap on the wall of the amenities block. Shortly after tea our power supply failed and we had to plug into the 10v supply, again at the amenity block. The amenities are fairly modern and were cleaned reasonably well. In the ladies one out of the three showers was out of order and, at times, queuing was the only option. The men's were cleaned at 9am, just after breakfast, the time when most people want to use the toilet. Lucky we have a toilet in the van. Internet is available in the office via an antiquated computer, which is very slow. The map in the Q-Parks book indicates that the park is 1/4km from the town. This is from the town boundary. The town centre is a good kilometre further but an easy walk for anyone of average fitness. At the time of our visit, new owners, who were very friendly and helpful, had only been in operation for a few weeks so, hopefully, they will get the park in order to take advantage of the potential that appears to be there. Suitable for an overnight stop.

Average value for money ($22 2A). Very good park management, shown to site, helped with parking. Pleasant outlook from some sites with lovely rural views. Park is now the preferred pickers (backpackers) accommodation in the town following the Childers backpackers fire several years ago. We heard no noise from them while we were there. Park clean and well maintained, shady sites. Some drive-through sites, cement slabs. No dump point. Some large sites. Pool, fenced. Clean amenities. Pets permitted, but check with management first. Suitable for overnight stopover or a day or two
Likes: Pleasant outlook, pretty town
Dislikes: Some highway noise. Pickers are driven to & from the farms they are working on, and depending on what activity is happening the first run may occur at 5:30am.

Family Parks member. No pets allowed.

Average Park on beach with very tiny site we managed to get onto - had to get neighbour to take down awning for us to get out! Bob (hubby) did a great job! Friendly staff. Price was as expected ($29.7 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade. Suitable for few days.
Likes: On beach, close to town, grassed sites, well maintained. Very popular park so was very crowded and difficulty to manoeuvre van in very confined spaces.
Dislikes: Cold showers - in both amenity blocks unless you got up very early. Very tiny site. Cigarette smoke in check in area!

Report submitted by Bob & Al.

On our first stay here we booked and was given a weekly price only to be told on arrival that the price was much higher because school holidays had started, we got nowhere with the very rude manager, who basically said pay the extra or go somewhere else, we then went to our allocated site only to find someone else on the site that had been there for weeks & was booked in till the next week, so back we went for another argument with the very rude managers. Another site was given to us which was under very messy Tea Tree's with no grass, and low branches to negotiate around. On our second stay here (gluttons for punishment) we were given keys for the gates which didn’t work and on approaching very bad tempered management about this proceeded to get in to an argument with him. These managers have no customer relations skills whatsoever and the park facilities are very poor, I would not stay in this park again if I was paid to stay in it. Very unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, mostly level sites, small sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site. Poor laundry. Noisy, too much shade, too many permanents. No pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Some areas of the park were ok, park is right on a lovely beach, and is only a short walk to the shops.
Dislikes: Our site was hard to negotiate, high gutters & tree branches too low, had to park the van half on the slab, site dirt and very messy from tea trees. Facilities were in very poor condition with keys which didn’t work properly. Near a busy main road & rowdy skate board area.

Report submitted by Annrina.

This park scores highly for location but poorly on everything else. Some things, such as the extremely busy and noisy road, skate board park and parking area are beyond the control of managment. But there are many things that they do control and unkempt grounds, filthy washing machines and the shanty town appearance of the permanent's area is very much within their area of responsibility and it was disappointing to receive an aggessive and defensive response to comments about these points. Poor management. Reasonable value for money. Average amenities. Average sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, hard to negotiate in to/out of site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, dump point. Very poor atmosphere to park, shady park, too many permanents for this park. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Location near a lovely beach.
Dislikes: Location near a busy main road, large car park and skate board area.
Parking: The park is located beside a major road in the middle of a shopping precinct. Traffic is always busy. Try and approach from the north where there is some ability to park where you don't interfer too much with through traffic. Approaching from the south will probably have you blocking a major road as you wait to turn across traffic into park (which will not make you too popular with other drivers and do nothing for your blood pressure).

Forest Glen Holiday Resort Caravan Park, Forest Glen
94 km North of Brisbane, 10 kms south of Nambour. 71 Owen Creek Road (Tanawha Tourist Drive). 2 kms south of the Big Pineapple, take the Chevallum/Forest Glen exit (Mons Road) off the Bruce Highway towards Buderim, turn right shortly after leaving the highway. Ph: 07 5476 6646 or 1800 669 955. BIG4 member. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is Kath Massey. Forest Glen proved to be revelation for us after being in parks along the coast who were catering for retirees escaping the southern winter. The staff were very friendly and professional. We were personally directed to our sight on arrival and the office staff were always willing to give advice regarding sightseeing and nearby attractions. During our 3-day stay our 2 girls enjoyed the swimming pool with water slide, a free outdoor movie screening, putt putt, inflatable pillow and a pancake breakfast. We appreciated our ensuite camping site, more than adequate in size, in a very natural bushland setting with an abundance of bird life. Our stay was not in school holidays therefore the park was not at all crowded. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($53 2A 2C per night). Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Some unlevel sites. Basic laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Excellent playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Added Touches: Pancake breakfast, outdoor movie screening, free kids activities, tickets to local attractions

Stayed with for 1 week, camping on a powered site. Two adults and 3 children ages 11, 9 and 4. We arrived for a relaxing peaceful holiday but that was far from what we received. A frosty reception was given to us from the outset, we arrived at 10am and even though our pitch was vacant we had to wait til 11am. All this despite letting campers set up at 9pm on the pitch next to us one night, keeping us awake till 11pm. The site is laid out on the side of a hill, our campground was in 'The Overflow' area which housed approximately 15 other campers, the pitches were too small, our tent pegs sharing the same line as the neighbouring pitch. The amenities were a disgrace for a BIG4, all campers sharing a block of only three shower/toilets; needless to say they were dirty for most of the time, cleaned once a day about 2pm. We were woken early every day with the local milk depot site starting its engines up around 4:30am, coupled with the noise from the Bruce Highway it was hard to sleep in general, (we had requested a quieter pitch prior to booking). We opted to pre-book a dinner for two on the 'mums night off' Friday evening special as we were told it was popular. This was not necessary as there were only two other diners. The food came eventually, containing plastic wrapping in the salad, when we told the waitress we had found plastic in our dinner she replied, "cool"!! The food was not good value for money at all. On the last day we packed up early and decided to have a cooling dip after packing up in the heat, and let the children have a final slide in the pool. We parked our cars and the manager came running out questioning us, what are you doing, where are you from?! We told her and she insisted that we must be out of the park by 10am otherwise we would be charged late checkout fees. We would not stay there again, we have visited other BIG4 sites and enjoyed every one of them. On the plus side the park is clean, the kids club staff were great. Very unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($61 2A C3 per night powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, small sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk. Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade. No pets allowed. Dirty electric bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool is shaded, pool area not considered kid-safe, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for overnighter, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The large trees, the wildlife.
Parking: Yes, have to park in designated spot by the management.
Added Touches: Kids club, weekday evenings only, not weekends.
Local Information: Mooloolaba was good for it's beaches and restaurants, good local shopping at Buderim.

A confirmation letter is sent to all guests that clearly states Check In (11am) and Check Out (10am) times, the size and restrictions of our tent sites and our policy on late check out, day visitors etc. These are also on guest receipts, park map & information sheet and peak period Welcome Letter handed to all guests at check in. In addition there is signage in the Kiosk and Reception advising a Late Check Out fee applies to any guest wishing to remain in the park after 10am. The pool is open at 7.30am allowing plenty of time for swimming prior to departure. By the nature of 'Overflow' this area is booked last and has the least desirable aspects including lack of shade and proximity to the highway. There is a strict no noise after 10pm rule that is enforced when necessary. If a guest tried to book a tent site with an ETA of 9pm we would decline the reservation. If they arrive off the road at 9pm in desperation (sometimes in tears) or having been stuck in traffic for hours we make an exception and ask them to consider other guests and set up quietly. A quad Ensuite unit is opened for campers in the Overflow Area during peak periods in addition to our main Amenities block. Both are cleaned daily between 12.00 & 1.30pm and contain mops, brushes etc for guests to tidy up after use. Verandah's Restaurant is an independently leased business.
Comments about above report by Kath Massey, Resort Manager.

The amenity block was adequate during the Xmas period. I never had to wait for a shower or toilet. They could have been cleaned out more often. One day this was not done until 3pm. Would stay again. Good management, management was helpful. Good value for money. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Average sites, adequate number of tourist sites, lighting at night was adequate, annexe slabs were available, hard to negotiate in to/out of site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, car wash, dump point. Good atmosphere to park, shady park, family-friendly park. Clean gas UC bbq (free), with a congenial atmosphere, lit at night, with seating provided. Good playground in good condition. Clean heated pool, pool area is shaded, seating around the pool was provided, toddlers were catered for. Suitable for month or longer. Suitable for families, the park can be considered kid-safe.
Likes: Very shady park with large open spaces for children to kick a ball, play cricket. Close to all attractions Aust Zoo Eumundi Markets, Big Pineapple, Ginger Factory. Small group of shops nearby.
Dislikes: Noise from the Highway. Ear Plugs needed. Hard to erect bed flys if using camper trailer due to the bitumen road. Tent pegs won't go into ground.
Added Touches: Free sausage sizzle put on by park management on New Years Eve.

Amenities upgrade completed November 2005 with a further 8 ensuites installed to reduce pressure on amenities also in 2005. New semi-enclosed camp kitchen built April 2006 with free BBQs. Games room upgraded with new machines (including "proper" air hockey) July 2005. Rainforest Walk closed down June 2004 until capital works allow for upgrading and extending. Grass sites are only used for caravans in periods of peak demand (winter months) when no other option is available. We have also heated our swimming pool, installed a 20m Jumping Pillow, run Kids Club in school holidays, free weekly pancake breakfast from June to November and generally cleaned the place up. Unfortunately, highway noise is still an issue for the occasional guest, as is the positioning of sites.

Update supplied by Kath Massey, Resort Manager.

Forest Glen is a large lush property with lots of lawns and tall trees. Ablutions are ageing but still adequate. We stayed six nights whilst exploring the Sunshine Coast and its hinterland. Bays for regular caravanners are oddly laid out - and somewhat difficult to approach and exit. Caravanners are forced to disconnect if they want to have the door open up opposite the slab. Also you will end up having to tow one wheel up onto some planks to get really level. Our main grouch was that the place was 'leaf-blower city'. They may call the place 'Forest Glen' but they certainly don't believe in having a 'forest floor'. The lightest scattering of leaves on lawn or bitumen is assiduously chased away. The noise from the Bruce Highway is certainly in the background 24/7 - but not that intrusive. It wouldn't stop most people staying there. They also have about double the number of speed humps which would be necessary to slow people down. Prices were $2-a-day too high but we would probably visit this park again. Friendly management. Poor value for money. Amenities were clean, water pressure was okay, hard to negotiate in to/out of site. The park can be considered kid-safe.

A well-kept park on the Burnett River. Large, flat sites. Some slabbed. 50% permanents. Management friendly and helpful. Amenities clean and adequate in quiet periods but question whether they would be adequate in busy periods like fruit picking season. Reasonable value for money and we would stay again. However we were there in a quiet time and there is little doubt that this would be a very busy place during the citrus fruit-picking season.

Manager's name is Michael and Lesley. We have stayed at this park before and rated it highly but were disappointed during this visit. The location remains excellent (but watch for Northerly winds when choosing a site as they can be uncomfortable). However park maintenance is poor and it needs a lot of TLC. The amenities are at the lower end of acceptable standards in cleanliness and are barely adequate for even the low numbers in the park at this time of the year. The general upkeep of the grounds is very poor. The management was friendly and helpful in the office but were mostly office bound and rarely sighted in the park. We will go back and stay again, but not for a while.

The signage to this park is excellent and is very easy to find. The reception staff were polite, very friendly and helpful with tourist information. The park is quite small and has a lot of permanents and cabin sites. The van sites tend to be quite small and very tight to get into to, however we were expertly talked in. The sites are mainly concrete slabs and well maintained with plenty of grass and shade. The facilities are excellent and include swimming pool, camp kitchen, bbq's, children's playground, bicycle hire, laundry and television/library room. The amenities block was well maintained and the shower cubicles large but the number of showers for the size of the park could be a problem at peak times. We recommend this park and would stay again.

Second time we stayed here, the first was under previous management in one of the Cabins - the standard of the park has remained un-changed - i.e. it is still of quite a high standard, my only whinge was we had to stay on an en-suite site at $44/night as after they saw my 23 Foot van they said I wasn't able to stay on the normal powered site I'd booked, but then I had to pay the extra for an en-suite site as these sites were able to accommodate my caravan - considering I had booked in August to stay there in January and told them the size of my van it would have been a nice gesture on their part to upgrade me to the en-suite site at no extra charge! There are only annexe slabs on the En-suite site and not on the ordinary powered sites. Scarness Beachfront Tourist Park, Scarness, Hervey Bay
Follow Boat Harbour Drive and turn left at the traffic lights at Denmans Camp Road. When you reach the stop sign go straight ahead (slight hook) to the continuation of Denmans Camp Road to the T intersection of the Esplanade. Turn left onto the Esplanade and the park is on the right hand side almost immediately. The entrance can easily be missed. OR Take Queens Road off the main road into Hervey Bay and then right onto the Esplanade, which runs along the waterfront. Go past the pub and look for the entrance on the left hand side (eastern side). Ph: 07 4128 1274. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is John & Penny. Since completing a review in 2008 we could see no changes to the standard of park except for the addition of a conveniently situated Dump Point. We also noted the grounds were more stressed and saw little done with them during our three week stay. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($259 2A per week, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. No pets allowed. Dirty UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Likes: Beachfront location and convenience to tourist areas of Hervey Bay
Dislikes: Garbage truck operation at 5.30 am within metres of sites, poor maintenance of grounds and facilities. The amenities are of a poor design that make it difficult for the staff to maintain a high degree of cleanliness during busy periods although it is noted that effort was put in.
Parking: Restricted access and minimal parking outside office
Local Information: Hervey Bay Boat Club offer a great 'courtesy bus' pick up and set down service, do a visit to the club to pick up their timetable as the park did not offer any info on this
Roads: Good roads all the way

Report submitted by Peter and Elaine, Lake Macquarie.

Manager's name is John & Penny. This park has an excellent location between the beach and the tourist shopping/dining area. It is an old park that is council owned and has been undergoing some improvements. With reasonably new but experienced managers it may improve along better lines than the 'council' officers have done in the past. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($180 2A per week). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, small sites, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs. Basic laundry, basic rec room, , late checkout allowed (past noon), good camp kitchen. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Beachfront location near to some shops, well drained sites and three amenities and two camp kitchens scattered throughout park, very clean amenities and friendly management.
Dislikes: One camp kitchen had a power failure for the whole week we were there without signs to advise and one washer was also not working for the week. It seemed that any maintenance that had to be done by council was slow to be done although maintenance within the control of the manager were carried out in a timely manner Poor planning of amenity buildings with many 'building design' mistakes.
Parking: Ample parking.
Local Information: Hop off point to Fraser Island and/or whale watching experiences, don't miss a visit to 'The Boat Club' at Urangan where we were made most welcome and enjoyed inexpensive meals, drinks and entertainment with a great harbour side views.
Roads: Great roads with easy well signed directions.

Manager's name is John and Penny. We visited Scarness for 4 nights in later January and have visited this park several times in the past. The park fronts the beach and provides excellent views and access to the beach. We spent a lot of time enjoying the water to get relief from the heat while watching the unsuccessful fishermen. The park now has new management (previous managers of Pialba Park) who were very friendly, helpful and a pleasure to deal with. They were in the process of building a children's playground which I am sure will be an attractive addition to families. Very friendly staff. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($34.00 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, well maintained park.
Likes: The park is well maintained, lawns regularly mowed. The access to the beach is good and there is always a pleasant breeze. Within easy walking distance to restaurants, shops and general store and not forgetting the pub. There is also an attractive beachfront restaurant within 100m of the park which serves breakfast all day.
Dislikes: The park is close to a busy road and the local pub which can get a bit noisy on Friday and Saturday nights as patrons leave. Also hoons in cars make a hell of a noise at times. This has been the case every time we have visited this park but nobody seems to want to do anything about it.
Parking: There is a spot where you can park while checking in. It could be a little bigger however it is adequate.
Local Information: You can book tours to Fraser Island, whale watching tours and I understand the local RSL provide excellent meals although we didn't visit the RSL ourselves.

Burrum River Caravan Park, Howard
Travelling north on the Bruce "track" turn right at Torbanlea, cross railway line and turn left. 2 kms to park on right side of road. Travelling south, turn off at Howard and through the township. Right turn before railway and cross Burrum River. Park is 150m on left after bridge. Ph: 07 4129 4859 or 1800 649 721. Pets at manager's discretion.
Manager's name is Sharyn and Graham This park could be "first class" if some problems were fixed. The number of permanents who have small barking dogs is amazing. Usually you cannot walk anywhere in the park without setting these dogs off. After 4 years of travel it is the worst park we have encountered for this. We travel with two Golden Retrievers who do not bark continually but parks of this nature give those travelling with dogs a bad name. The number of showers and toilets are woefully inadequate. Most of the permanents in their permanent cabins are not connected to septic and they also have to use the showers and toilets. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point. Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Gas bbq (free). No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Staff are friendly and eager to help with parking and advice
Dislikes: Too many permanents, a large percentage have small "designer" dogs, who yap continually and never shut up. Permanents are encroaching more and more into van sites. Some permanents have 2 cars, 2 boats and crap all over the place. One section of the park looks like a "dump" with numerous cars and trucks in various stages of repair. Looks very untidy. Also, the park is obviously not on sewerage and frequently a strong sewerage smell fills the park.
Parking: Waiting area for incoming rigs
Added Touches: Right on the Burrum River. A pontoon is provided and some good fish and prawns can be caught from this pontoon.
Local Information: a good spot to base yourself if the heavy traffic in Hervey Bay is not your thing. 20 mins to Hervey Bay and the same to Maryborough. About 12 kms to Toogoom and Burrum Heads

A park which started life as a Vietnam Veteran's Retreat but which has widened its market and now advertises itself as a park for "Veterans and over 50s". It is a park where pets are welcome and children are discouraged. It is an extremely well managed park that encourages interaction between visitors by way of pizza night, stew and damper nights and well patronised Happy Hours around the fire. There is a strong element of regulars amongst the clientele and while it is still used by Veterans, the majority of visitors are non-Veterans who stay for lengthy periods and spend a lot of their time actually helping around the park. The grounds are immaculate. The amenities are clean but inadequate for the potential numbers using the park. Excellent value for money ($15 2A per night, Veterans rate. $18 per night for others). Suitable for any length of stay and we will return.
Likes: Social interaction amongst the guests and managers.
Dislikes: Inadequate amenities.
Parking: Plenty of room.
Added Touches: Something happening around the fire most nights.

A lovely camping are beside Lake Coothraba. Plenty of camping site and a few powered sites. Great area for families. There are hot showers available near the kiosk at the entrance to the park and toilet blocks in the camping ground without hot water. However the latter are starting to show their age and are badly in need of refurbishment. We had a problem with our refrigerator and managment were extremely helpful in overcoming it. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dogs on leash. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is shaded. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Lots of bird life (including group of geese which can become aggressive in mating season), picturesque lake, close to Australia Zoo. Permanents are in a separate area of park.
Dislikes: Unmade roads in tourist park section. Laundry in permanents area which is a good distance away. Man in charge (owner or manager?) said there are plans to fix roads and increase amenities block, adding a laundry.
Local Information: Had a good meal at Landsborough Hotel, handy to Sunshine coast hinterland and Glasshouse Mountains and to beaches.
Roads: Good roads, park is situated on a sealed service road. Crossing Steve Irwin Way by car is hazardous during busy times.

Cotton Tree Caravan Park, Maroochydore
36 Cotton Tree Parade, Cotton Tree. Cotton Tree is on the Sunshine Coast, north of Alexandra Headland. From Brisbane, take the Mooloolaba turnoff along the Sunshine Motorway. Take the Alexandra Headland turnoff and follow Alexandra Parade north. Turn right at Sixth Avenue, follow caravan park signs to Cotton Tree Parade. Ph: 07 5443 1253 or 1800 461 253. Family Parks member. A large and very popular caravan park. It is populated by visitors from the southern states during the winter months and by locals during school holiday periods. Our advice is if you don't have to be there during school holidays leave it for those who do, as the park, and particularly the amenity blocks, become totally overwhelmed. Nevertheless it is a good park in a great location and we will return. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($198 2A per week, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, dump point. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Location, adjacent to both river and surf beaches as well as an aquatic centre next door and is within walking distance of all facilities including regional shopping centre, movies and RSL and Surf clubs.
Dislikes: Difficult to access and exit sites in the old Pincushion C/P area (sites with P prefix) and the inability to pre-book sites in other than school holiday periods. It is possible to pre-book during winter months but for minimum periods only.
Parking: Room for a number of rigs.

Likes: Council owned park right on the beach at Maroochydore. Very short walk to shops and eateries. Great location, listening to the waves breaking on the beach at night.
Dislikes: Difficult to get a booking as it is always busy. Can be difficult to park your vehicle as some site are small so it is a case of tolerance for everyone in parking and moving vehicles at times.

Manager's name is Trent & Natalie. Easy parking during check in. Caravan park situated on mouth of Maroochy River with access to both river and surf beach. About 100 metres from surf club and patrolled beach. We like the access to beach (for surfing) between mouth of river and surf club as you can carry your boards to beach without having to get into your car and find somewhere to park. Caravan park is crowded in summer, with most sites pre-booked months in advance. Christmas lights in the caravan park are wonderful and young families walk around in the early evening - great atmosphere. However, teenagers staying in park at Christmas can be noisy and occasionally offensive. Winter is less crowded and park is quieter due to southern 'nomads' all asleep by 8pm. Cotton Tree is close to everything - small shopping centre over the road for essentials, Sunshine Plaza a fifteen minute walk away and Woolies a five minute drive at Big Top. Great park - we love it for annual holidays. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($300 2A per week, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Clean UC bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Close to everything Sunshine Coast has to offer. Tents and caravans have their own areas and are kept together.
Dislikes: Lack of shade in summer - can be extremely hot. Unsupervised resident teenagers (staying with their parents) can be a problem.
Local Information: Fishing in river at park's edge, surfing on other boundary.

Lots of permanent sites, also lots of holiday makers have stayed for 20 plus years. Little bit dated and not really a friendly atmosphere. Management seemed more interested in numbers and didn't move from behind computer screen. Virtually give list of what available, have a look and pay money. Good business and probably great turnover. We would not stay again. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, dump point, claustrophobic park, not enough shade. Clean bbq (pay), dismal bbq area atmosphere No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Location, close to major facilities, level walking tracks.
Dislikes: Standard of facilities were very average, nails for clothes hooks, shower doors without shutting facilities. Very closed-in feeling. River could be very dangerous for swimming. Only saw two pelicans and two seagulls over four days. Lack of wildlife seemed strange. Also fishing very average.
Parking: Enough room for at least two rigs.
Local Information: Local shopping centre. Friendly shopping area in Cotton Tree, good fish and chip shop opposite entrance.

Good value for money (average $23 2A weekly rate, with discount). River sites were more expensive. The rear of the park was more open and roomy. Level sites, cement slabs, of average size. A few drive through sites. Amenities adequate and close to sites. Water, power and sullage close to sites. Dump point. Adequate night lighting. Some shade. Well maintained park. Council swimming pool is next door. Suitable for a week or more. We would stay here again.
Likes: Walking distance to everything - beach (patrolled), river, restaurants, groceries, post office, large shopping plaza. No need to use your car unless touring out of the immediate area.
Dislikes: $30 cash deposit for boom gate and amenities keys was a bit steep. Steep guttering to some sites.
Parking: Room for two rigs at the entrance, which can be a problem for this busy park. Parking on exit is also unsuitable while you wait for a refund of the key deposit.

Manager's name is Ray Fitton. We had ensuite site for 5 weeks, $44 with discount in school holidays and then $32 with discount. Ensuite sites are very large, slabs, and grass all round. There was a lot of rain and most areas did not handle the saturation well. Ensuites are of good size and also include a lockable storage area. Staff bungled our reservation which we made 9 months earlier and although they grudgingly apologised made no attempt to rectify error. Lesson learnt by us, always double check arrangements made so far in advance! Shop on site is run independently of caravan park and does a wonderful job. Will deliver meals to van from set menu for each night meal, price approx $9.00, we found one was sufficient to be divided for two, good budget saving meal every so often. They catered the Xmas in July luncheon which was fantastic. $17.50 per person excellent value as manager of caravan park dressed as Santa Claus and gave each couple a bottle of Lindeman wine. Considering no cleaning fluids were supplied for cleaning of ensuite and mop was useless and for 5 weeks we cleaned the ensuite the price is excessive. Reception staff left a lot to be desired in all ways. Average management. Adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, kiosk, car wash, dump point, security entry to park. Quiet, open and roomy park. Clean UC gas bbq (free), with a congenial atmosphere, lit at night, with seating provided. Suitable for month or longer, the park was well maintained.

22 Ferry St. Travelling north on Bruce Highway, take 1st turn off to Maryborough, cross river and is the first park on the left, immediately over bridge. The entry is about fifty metres on the left. Ferry Street. Ph: 07 4121 3970. Dog friendly.
A mixed bag of motel units, cabins, permanent and tourist sites. Although the sites are reasonably well maintained the surrounds need a bit of TLC. Sites are muddy following rain. There are large drive through sites in the tourist area. Only room for one rig at check-in. No parking on Ferry Street which is the main road into Maryborough and through road to Hervey Bay. Difficult access when coming fro the south. Difficult and dangerous from the north. Exiting to the south is dicey. Manager's name is Kennedy Family. There are no signs to the park from either direction and we understand the park management is fighting with the Council to have them erected. The park is not difficult to find from the south but a bit more difficult from the north, however the Navman took us straight there. It was a pleasure to find a park with well maintained grassed sites that are divided by flower beds. Once the plants have a chance to grow each site will be very secluded. The majority of the sites were drive through and the remainder very easy to get in to. The road from reception to the sites has some very sharp turns and care must be taken when negotiating these corners. The entrance to the park is on the main road and can be difficult to cross the traffic. This is a very busy park and was virtually full most nights, (out of season) so would recommend booking a day or so before. Would definitely stay again. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($23 2A per night powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point, van parking. Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: It was nice to have a shower cubicle with a raised edge to stop the water from flowing into the dry change area. The well kept condition of the whole park and where work was not a dirty four letter word.
Dislikes: The one amenity block nearest to the tourist sites was far too small to cater for the number of caravans even at non peak times. The second amenity block was up near the park entrance and was a considerable distance from where the tourist vans were situated.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: Local heritage attractions, a visit to the Information Bureau is a must.
Roads: Usual Qld bumpy roads.

The older part of this park, which you drive through to get to your site, has a rundown shabby appearance with ugly old cabins and some ordinary looking long term vans but, when you get past this area, the new part is very attractive with most sites separated by nice plantings (not very big at the moment but, hopefully, they will grow). Sites are large with room to park a big van and your car, large motorhomes or fifth wheelers. Amenities are fairly new and kept clean. Maybe if the park was full there would be some congestion but during our stay, no problems. There is a nice camp-kitchen with free gas barbecue, stove etc but no microwave. The swimming pool is fairly large and looks clean and inviting. Staff are friendly and helpful. The park is within walking distance of the city centre (about 20 minutes). Only negative: the blurb in the Q-Parks book states that there is excellent TV reception. On site 102 the reception was so bad we couldn't watch it. When I told a staff member this he advised me it must be my set-up. Not so, we've had perfect reception before and since. Ideal for overnight or an extended stay.

This park has two separate sections, one in Parkyn Parade and the other the ocean beach park. Parkyn Parade Mooloolaba is where you check in for both parks. Follow the exit signs to Mooloolaba from the Sunshine Motorway. The Parkyn Park is situated directly beside the Surf Club and has beach access. Average management. Good value for money. Average amenities, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Average sites, hard to negotiate in to/out of site. Laundry, dump point, security entry to park Park atmosphere was okay. Clean bbq. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Closeness to the beautiful beach and walkways in the area. Walk to the shops and the adjacent surf club with meals at reasonable prices.
Dislikes: The Parkyn Parade park did not take bookings (although it is planned to do so from next March). This meant that you needed to ring four days prior to wanting a site and then ring again the evening before 5-6pm to confirm. On arrival there is an area within the park for booking in - if you did not get a site then you had to drive right through the park to get out again. There was no assistance available for help with parking we were advised. This park has extremely small sites with very narrow roads. Parking for many guests required that they actually had to access the site opposite to get on site. A single amenity block was not very close to some sites. With over 100 sites in the park this was something that needs attention. The amenity block was closed for cleaning and there was no additional toilet available during the cleaning period. The amenities were very clean and had liquid soap and hand dryer. The laundry was very busy with only 3 machines. The drying area had clothes lines very close to each other and most days the washing was not getting any sun due to the overhead trees. It was not a large enough area for such a large number of sites. Only one BBQ (20 cents) was installed to cater for the whole park; certainly inadequate. No pool or children's play area although the proximity to the beach probably makes this unnecessary. It was lovely to walk through the gate directly on to the beach. The lack of concrete slabs to all sites. Very sandy and dusty if you were unlucky enough to miss out.
Local Information: You don't need to take out the car once you settled in. Although a bus service operates to the Sunshine Plaza with all the shops you could wish for.

Heading north, turn off Sunshine Coast Motor Way into David Low Way just north of Maroochy River crossing. Turn right into Mudjimba Beach Road at traffic lights 500 metres past Twin Waters turnoff and follow signs.

Manager's name is Greg and Janine Howard. We chose this park as it is close to relations who live nearby. We liked it because, it is very well maintained, the amenities are spotless, it is very quiet (although packed in school holidays and a bit noisy), lots of grass around, good shade, only 5 minute walk to beautiful beach. We were disappointed with attitude of management when we complained about the gardener mowing the sites next to us at 7am, he continued on all of the sites in our vicinity until 9am. We were told it is legal to start work at 7am, it may be, but surely the use of a lawn mower at such an early hour could be avoided. Pity they don't adhere to their rule, 'be considerate of others' that is emblazoned on the sign at the entrance! The Sunshine Coast Airport is nearby but we did not find this a huge problem, some days appeared to be busier than others. We stayed 12 nights and would hesitate staying again due to the attitude of the management and the gardener. A number of the sites have very high kerbing to back over and could be difficult to negotiate. Unfriendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, disabled facilities, secure entry. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. No playground. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Dislikes: reception offered no map of the area or advice on whereabouts of local supermarkets etc or available public transport.
Local Information: Absolutely beautiful beach for long walks and lifesaver patrolled for swimming.

A quiet park away from Sunshine Coast mainstream but handy to everything the area has to offer. The park grounds are immaculate. Amenities are spotless but question whether there is sufficient number to cope in peak periods. We would stay again. Good management, friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Reasonable value for money. Good atmosphere to park, quiet, shady park, family-friendly park. Clean UC electric bbq. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, the park was well maintained.

Manager's name is Janine. A prior booking had been made at this park as we were meeting up with friends already at the park. Requested an adjacent site - which was available and not occupied for the duration of our stay. Management for whatever reason placed us on a site on the other side of the park (apparently this is for guests on shorter stays). Access was extremely difficult as it was on a corner with trees overhanging blocking clear passage and very narrow. We had to physically man-handle the van to access the site. We are very capable of backing a van etc. but this was particularly awkward. No help was offered to assist with parking and the park was only half full. No ensuite sites and no camp kitchen only a wash-up area. Tourist information available only on the wall at reception and not offered. Reception was rather aloof and it seemed as if we were an intrusion rather than a guest. This park is very clean and the amenities have liquid soap and hand blower dryers. It is 200m to the beach and an easy walk. Small shops nearby and a larger supermarket about 3km to town. Nice beach walks and a patrolled beach make for an lovely environment. As regards value for money the sites are $31 2A (less 10%) discount for club members. One aspect to be noted is that there is very busy aircraft activity during the day but the nights are OK. Amenities were clean, were in good condition, there was adequate hot water. Poor sites, shady park. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, the park was well maintained.

Good locale of park with nice cafe, bakery and fish & chip shop just across from the beach. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money. Two large amenity blocks, very clean. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Large open camping areas if with a group or nice shaded secluded areas for people wanting some quiet. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No playground. Nice pool area, although only small so may get a bit crowded in peak times, and very little seating for parents watching kids - although the park is very close to a really nice patrolled beach. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Shady, large sites, good to have a pool.
Local Information: Local Coles etc just up the road. Also should note that many people seem to think this park is near the airport and thus would get aircraft noise. However it is actually more towards the coast than the airport and we really were pleasantly surprised that it was very quiet.

Nambour Rainforest Holiday Village, Nambour
Turn west off Nambour Connection Road between Nambour and Woombye. When approaching from the north turn off the Bruce Highway onto the Nambour Connection Road North, follow the road through the town centre and the park is on the right about two kilometres south, well sign-posted. From the south turn off the Bruce Highway onto the Nambour Connection Road South and the park is on the left. It is a fairly sharp U turn to get into the park from this direction. Ph: 07 5442 1153. Dogs are welcome with conditions and owners sign a "Pets and Owners Obligation Form" on arrival.

A delightful small old-style park, well maintained, with a friendly atmosphere. It is a sort drive to cafes, shops and facilities in Nambour. There are a variety of cabins and units, about 25 powered sites and a few grassed camping sites. All staff are friendly and helpful and make you feel welcome. The park is on two levels with a central laundry, amenities and camp kitchen handy to most sites. The most direct access to the amenities from the top level is via a stairway. Sites are small to average size and most have slabs. If you have a larger rig it would be best to ring ahead to check that a suitable site is available. The park is very green and leafy with trees and rainforest plants. Although on a busy road the park was very quiet at night. The large rectangular pool is crystal clear and shaded by surrounding trees. It has adequate recliners and chairs and picnic tables. The free BBQ area is just outside the pool fence. The older style amenities are clean and tidy. There is plenty of hot water, hand soap and dryers. In the showers, the shower curtain keeps the change area dry and there are a few hooks for hanging clothing/bags, but no bench. The amenity number was more than adequate for the number of sites (I often had it all to myself) and I think would cope well in peak time. There were a few dogs in the park when we visited, with no problems. The park is a great base for both couples and families to see all the Sunshine Coast and surrounds have to offer. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($26 2A per night, off-peak season).
Likes: The friendly atmosphere. The park is a short drive to many of the local attractions including Australia Zoo, Eumundi Markets, The Big Pineapple and the Ginger Factory as well as the Glass House mountains.
Local Information: For fresh produce, there is a farmer's market at the Big Pineapple and at the school in Nambour on Saturday mornings.
Roads: When leaving the park with van hitched, turn left and left again. This avoids the sharp turn out of the park and will take you to a set of traffic lights to enter the busy Nambour Connection Road.

Managers Stuart and Kirsty. A small, attractive park in, as the name suggests, a rainforest setting. Very quiet with some traffic noise but not enough to be a nuisance. Some sites are difficult to get into but good assistance is cheerfully given if required. The park is basically a bowl shape with the amenities in the centre so from almost every site you have to walk down to them and walk up back to your site. There is a well-equipped campers kitchen, pool, free BBQ, a children's playground and a dog-walking area as well as a rainforest walk. The amenities are kept clean. The shower cubicles are a satisfactory size and partitioned by a good quality curtain. However, during the seven nights we stayed there I never once managed to get the weak-flowing showers to run at a satisfactory temperature. It was either too hot or too cold. Also there is no shelf to place your belongings onto, just a wedge-shaped contraption that looks a bit like an umbrella stand above, which were two hooks. The wedge made it difficult to satisfactorily hang anything. Staff were all friendly and helpful but whilst we were there, there was one dis-quietening situation; whilst there are strict guidelines for dog owners, the park owners dog was often allowed to run loose, sniffing around vans and sites as it liked, a situation that can prove uncomfortable for those of us that aren't dog people. A nice park, if you can cope with the showers and the roaming dog, a good place to stay.

Noosa Tewantin Caravan Park, Noosa
143 Moorindi Street, 2km north of the shopping centre on road to the Noosa River ferry. From Tewantin Shopping Centre, head west, turn right into Moorindil Street at the Shell Servo, continue to you on Moorindil St, and the park will be on your right hand side. If in doubt, follow street signs to ferry. Ph: 07 5449 8060 or 1800 008 060. Top Tourist member. No pets allowed.

Manager's name is Tanya. Although our initial welcome from the reception staff wasn't exactly what we expected (my children were referred to as 'turkeys'), the rest of the staff at the park were very friendly and helpful. The assistance onto our site was the best we have ever come across, thankfully, as the sites are very tight especially when travelling with a 22ft van. One disappointment was that we were separated from our travelling companions, when I had only made a phone call 24 hours prior to check both sites we had booked together remained so. I was abruptly told (by the same 'turkey' lady) that I should know that no sites can be guaranteed. We later found out during our stay that this had happened to several other people. This unfortunately is a result of the tightness of sites, and what size vans can be accommodated on particular sites. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($49 2A 2C per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, van parking. Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. Clean heated pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Very well maintained park. The camp kitchen lovely and new. Two bbq's (free), two gas burner cook top, big double door commercial fridge. Overlooked playground, with plenty of table and bench style seating.
Dislikes: Very tight to negotiate sites, and no dump point. The staff instructed us to empty portaloo into toilets in amenities block. Therefore there are no facilities to clean out waste tanks.
Parking: Room for parking van off to side of driveway once you have pulled into park.
Local Information: Very close to ferry across to Noosa North Shore. Ferry costs $6 each way for car only (more if you are towing trailer etc).

I would like to advise that we acquired the park in November 2007 from a man who operated the park for the last 20 years. Since taking over we have appointed a sensational couple to manage the park (Brigitte & Joe) and they have not only lifted customer service but have been implementing a number of improvements, including – adding the park to the Top Tourist Parks chain, installing new Deluxe 2 bedroom villas, a full revamp of the website including online bookings, computerization of reception, refresh and upgrade of amenities blocks, sites and shop, and upgrade of pool facilities and furniture. We are soon to upgrade the camp kitchen.

Friendly reception and we were helped on to site. Sites fairly crowded, with quite large number of permanents. Some sites had pads, others were well grassed. Good town water, sullage to most sites. Park well shaded and well maintained, with sealed kerbed roads and boom gate security. Amenities clean and modern, with plentiful hot water, soap and hand dryers. Showers roomy with sideways shower heads to keep dressing area reasonably dry, but no mats, curtains or mop provided. Well stocked shop on site, large heated swimming pool, games room, TV lounge, playground, camp kitchen and barbecue facilities. Internet connection at reception. Local tour bookings made. Good mobile telephone signal, gold phones at shop. TV antenna points to many sites and cables available for hire, but we found reception variable. $24 for 2A considered reasonable for area. A great position for a park but the sites that are not concrete are fine (and annoying) gravel ok for campers but poor quality for caravans and should be priced accordingly. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($36 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Clean UCbbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Great beachfront position, Easy site access, well maintained sites and facilities, helpful customer service
Dislikes: Poor TV reception. Very high occupancy even out of peak times, when booking over the phone (booking for 3 but stayed longer) had to pay full amount of $108 over the phone by card without seeing the park or the site with no refund available. On arrival I had to climb a ladder to prune some lower branches of a tree to get our 18 ft van with aircon under as it was over the site
Parking: Ample parking
Local Information: A great place for a fish, swim, walk along a beach or beautiful river bank but most things are priced to suit the international traveller who is not aware of Australian values
Roads: Good all the way but very busy with far too many roundabouts

A street map or GPS is recommended if you don't know the area. Excellent cAravan park, huge double slab sites, easy access to river, large BBQ covered area overlooking river, large shop, handy to Esplanade shops and restaurants, well worth repeat stay. Only niggle is council rates seem to us to be overpriced. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. The park is a disgrace, dirt/gravel roads, muddy after rain. Too many trees making it hard to park van, concrete pads so filthy it was hard to see them. Staff friendly but we had to find a site by ourselves. If having a shower (which I did not) you were expected to mop the shower floor and I suspect that is the only time they were cleaned, there was no bench in the shower area and only 2 hooks for clothes. The camp kitchen was filthy with a few dirty old chairs/stools to sit on. Poor value for money ($27 2A per night powered). It has a good atmosphere and is handy to everything that the town and region has to offer. There are some excellent sites but many others are small, difficult to access and offer no outlook except other vans. Most slabs are uneven and higher than the surrounding ground. The site we were on looked to be recently refurbished yet van position was below the level of the road making it difficult to get the van off the towball and then get the towball low enough to get the van level. Tractor assistance is available to get you on to your site (and compulsory in the case of the beachside sites). Amenities are well kept but please Managers, put in decent door closers to stop the constant banging shut throughout the night! It is not high on our list of places to go back to but nevertheless, we would return. Average management, friendly management, management was helpful. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Cleanliness and you cant book a site. Great for last minute turn up.
Dislikes: No Pool. Games room needs to be updated as this is a family park. At Easter and peak seasons there are a lot of kids. Need to run sausage sizzles, treasure hunts etc at peak seasons as the kids got bored after fishing and being out on the boat during the day. A kids sausage sizzle night or a disco would be great at peak seasons. A lot of the kids did not use the games room as most of the machines ate their money or are very outdated. Don't allow pets on verandas of onsite cabins.
Parking: No just pulled up and checked in. They give you a map and a large bag for your rubbish as it is collected daily by the owners.
Added Touches: Allow contained fires at site which is great to keep the midgies away. Just make sure you have it going before dusk as they are a killer. The boat ramp is not owned by the park but it is clean and very close to the grounds. There is ample parking for "toys". The management were very tolerant to the amount of boats, jetskis etc that people bring with them and we never once had any problem with any of these being in the way.

New management (been there 10 weeks) were great. $25 per night for a powered site with special rate (stay 4 & pay for 3). Clean amenities including baby bath, huge well lit mirrors, hand dryer, instant hot water, good water pressure, but probably wouldn't cope when 2,000 turn up at Easter time. Huge park area, several permanents & casual permanents, air-conditioned villas & cabins, several sites with annex slab - mostly close to amenities, poor TV reception but cable available from office for a refundable deposit, approx 4 drive thru sites but easy access to many more in open areas, ideal for big rigs. Large laundry, well maintained camp kitchen & bbq areas, Rec room, TV room, kiosk, kids playground, tour bookings & pick up or easy walk to Tin Can Bay "dolphin" ferry. Limited sealed road but other tracks suitable for 2WD, main areas well lit. Pet friendly, pretty quiet, suitable for a week or more if you don't have an allergy to midgees. Very good management. Reasonable value for money. Good atmosphere to park. Dogs allowed. Clean UC gas bbq (free), with a congenial atmosphere, lit at night, with seating provided. Basic playground, condition okay. Likes: We could basically camp where we wanted and the sites were huge. This is great for large groups that want to be together you didn't feel restricted or pushed into a small allotted area.
Dislikes: The showers were rather basic with no shower screens which meant it was very easy to get items wet. Very few sealed roads with lots of sand and not a lot of grass meant the children were constantly filthy. The sandflies were wicked. Petrie Park, Tiaro
Tiaro is 25 kms south of Maryborough. Travelling south, turn right at the Gundy Pub sign at Jacobsen Street, just north of Tiaro township, go over the railway bridge, turn right onto Blackmount Road, go about 150 metres and then turn left into Van Doorn Road and follow the road down to the river. There are bar-b-ques, toilets, a boat ramp, camping area, river frontage and it's all free. The old Gundy pub (over 100 years old) is about a 1 km bush walk away. Not a big area but hardly ever used any time I've checked it out possibly due to lack of knowledge of the place.

Manager's name is Ian And Christine A well presented park, with a lot of grassed areas. We managed an ensuite powered site, and although it was older, it was clean and roomy - although it could do with better ventilation. The normal powered sites are set further back and most are around the amenities block, but a few are a reasonable walk from the amenities. The normal amenities were also a little old, but they looked clean and tidy. There is a free electric BBQ set towards the back half of the park (in the camp kitchen area), and a reasonable distance from some sites. The managers are doing a good job keeping the park green. Night lighting around the ensuites was good, but I cannot comment about the rest of the park. The ensuite units (about 16 of them) have TV cables ready to plug in. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money $29 2A per night, before member discount, ensuite, off-peak season). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs. basic laundry, good camp kitchen. Quiet, open and roomy, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean electric bbq (free)UC, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.

An ensuite (private bathroom) is a wonderful invention at a caravan park and we made full use of it. The ensuite was clean, roomy and well designed, including cupboards for the long term stay. There are 16 sites with ensuites. Be prepared to pay a little more for the ensuite site as the caravan park is the best in town and the only ones with ensuite sites ($25 per night 2A powered). We stayed for 10 days and received a discount. The public amenities were well catered for and there was a baby bath installed into the ladies area. Ensuite sites all had concrete annex slabs. Other sites were grassed, but each site was cleverly separated from the next by "fences" of planted shrubs. A large grassed area has recently been established near the pool for large motorhomes. The pool was beautiful and very suitable for those with difficulty negotiating steps - a curved ramp was moulded into the pool design (also allows toddlers to splash around in shallow water). The playground is limited to a large sandpit, but a public children's playground is beside the beach only short walk down the esplanade. A quick warning about the local insects - sandflies are everywhere (especially early morning and late afternoon) so make sure your Vitamin B intake is adequate and keep the insect repellent cream handy. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, condition is reasonable, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities. Peaceful. Dogs on leash, congenial UC bbq area UC, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. A well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Local Information: Dolphin viewing, fishing, swimming, canoeing, boat hire, ferry cruise and Fraser Island tours. We enjoyed walking along the Environmental Walkway which follows the beach on two sides of Norman Point.

Yandina Caravan Park, Yandina
1519 Nambour North Connection Road. On south bank, on the western side of the old Bruce Highway road bridge over the Maroochy River 1 km south of Yandina town (on Nambour Connection Road).Ph: 07 5446 7332.
Dogs on leash, although dogs wandering unleashed and barking common. It is very difficult to rate this park according to set categories. It has most facilities. But problems pop up with access to sites and presentation of facilities. General condition of park is below average. Facilities display lack of attention. Park is not particularly clean. Pets are allowed, supposedly on leashes, but there is dog poo in abundance. Most sites are badly affected by road noise. There are no powered tourist van sites. Tourist vans are put on camping sites. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, basic rec room, kiosk. Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade, too many permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Closeness to areas required. Very easy access to park.
Dislikes: There are no tourist powered van sites. Tourist vans are being put on camp sites with no facilities other than an electric cord and some taps (adequate). Very difficult to level van because of slope on sites. Access to tourist area is via a steep, very rough, and muddy track, totally inappropriate for caravans. No sullage points. No TV reception because sites are below river levee banks (under busy road bridge). A TV antenna cable is provided for those vans which have the ability to connect to an external antenna. Very noisy (road noise). Waste water must simply be let run loose into river.
Parking: Parking for one car/caravan only.
Local Information: Closeness to Yandina/Eumundi tourist areas is excellent. Nambour is quite close and offers full services. The Sunshine Coast centres are all fairly close and have easy access.
Roads: Excellent.

About 600 m south of the Yandina business district the park is around 80% permanent vans. There are a few small tourist sites in the main park and another eight along the river bank, just outside the park which is accessed by a narrow, steep, very uneven, tightly curved track. There is also an unpowered grass area on the western side of the park. We were guided to the river bank area by a very pleasant female staff member. The site is all grass and a power cord and coaxial cable for television reception are in situ. From our site there was a fairly long walk, including a steep, but short, staircase, to the main amenity block, which, seemed hardly used. Shower cubicles were fairly small and shower heads were water-savers but with a fairly good flow of water. There is a nice-looking pool, children's play area, two BBQs and, in the un-powered area, a camp kitchen. There are two smaller amenity blocks in other parts of the park. Tariff was $20 per night, which is the lowest we have paid this year. Staff members, in general, were very friendly. Location is good to visit the attractions of the area but, if you are thinking of visiting, due to the small number of tourist sites, advance booking is advisable. Suitable for a few nights.
