Sloman St. Ph: 07 4745 5118. Pets allowed, onm leash at all times, clean up after pet.

We went through Burketown in FNQ but we were not able to stay there as they were full, that was both powered and unpowered, and we were told by the management that because it was peak period we needed to book at least three weeks in advance. We had a look around the park and would give it a 2. Burketown itself was quite nice.

Manager's name is Kim and Christa Neal. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Dirty gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting. No playground. Clean pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Friendliness of managers, cleanliness, convenience to town and attractions, roominess and shade.
Dislikes: I felt it was a bit overpriced. Has a swimming pool which probably adds to the cost of running this park. I feel the pool is unnecessary as there is a very good town pool within walking distance for those who want to use a pool.
Local Information: This is a very neat and historic small town, of which the locals are justifiably proud. Recommend a visit to the Tourism Info Centre, watch their video of town history, then visit the historic buildings, etc. You can walk from the park to the Info Centre and then all over town. Also visit Lake Belmore, 4ks from town, for picnics, swimming, boating. Then catch the sunset from the lookout on your way back to town.
Roads: Some sections of the road are very good, other sections poor. Upgrading is happening but at a slow rate.

Manager's name is Kym & Crista. We visited Croydon 8 years ago for morning tea and were so impressed with the town we decided we would stay here the next time we came through this area. We have certainly not been disappointed. The caravan park is one of the best country parks we have stayed in. This is a Council owned park and the current managers have only been here for 9 weeks and their enthusiasm is very obvious. They not only welcome you with big smiles, you are shown to your site and they walk around the park all day checking to see that their visitors are happy. Would definitely stay again and highly recommend this park. The only downside to Croydon is that there is no dump point at all. The Council have decided not to put one in so travellers with toilets need to empty them before they arrive in Croydon. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, most sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, disabled facilities, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open and roomy, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean bbq (free). No playground. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Beautifully tree'd sites with green grass. The washing machines are on an honesty basis of $2 and they are brand new household style machines, not the usual commercial variety and for once your washing comes out clean.
Dislikes: No bbq area where you can sit and eat.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: Visit the tourist bureau where there is an excellent video on the town and the staff will also tell you all about the town and what there is to see and do.
Roads: Narrow bitumen and bumpy.

Just follow the signs...easy. Advertises cable TV but not now available. This park is a little gem with its big shady, green sites. Has two amenities blocks; the older one at the front is basic; and washing machines were out of order but the new one is excellent. This is a tidy town and people are justly proud of it and dedicated to its heritage restoration. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Price was as expected, good value for money. Water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, large sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, no rec room. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground. Clean pool is open to sun. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Green grassy sites after dirt parks. Space. The atmosphere was very friendly in the town.
Dislikes: No washing machines working near our site by the old block
Added Touches: Manager is a local identity well versed in history of the town.
Local Information: Visit the Croydon General store, trading since 1894, for a walk back in time. The new information centre has an excellent video introduction to the area. A must see before walking the old police precinct.

We stayed at this park for two nights out of necessity and would have preferred to stay at the other one around the corner. The roof in the ladies amenity leaked like a sieve when it rained and the facilities were very run down. The bloke who checked us in was extremely helpful and escorted us to the area where we could choose a site. There were no other vans there. The place around the corner turned out to be very well patronised. It's up to you. Palmer Street, Karumba Point. Turn off at the sign on the right as you get near Karumba. Just follow the signs. The park is approximately 70 kms N of Normanton. Turn left as you approach the township and head out to the Sunset Tavern. The park is about 200 m along the river from that. Ph: 07 4745 9277. Pets at manager's discretion.

Very friendly park - very few people at this time of year so plenty of room on sites. Most are well shaded. Plenty of hot water and amenities are very clean. Side gate gives 1 minute access to small supermarket and 3 minute walk to tavern, right on the beachfront for spectacular sunsets. Karumba township about 5 minute drive away. Good sea breezes at the moment so humidity not too bad yet. Staff are very friendly and helpful. One of the long-term residents said there is some truth to the rumours of the cliquiness of the park at high season, but said it is nowhere near as bad as some say. Some have been coming here for the winter months for many, many years.

Never saw the manager in 6 days. The caravan park was nice looking at first glance and in a good spot, right across from the boat ramp and water. The sites are very tight and if you have a big rig you will be down the back where there is no shade. This is a very clicky park and if you arrive expecting it to be as friendly as other parks you will be grossly disappointed. The amenities are very good and clean. But you do need to be a fisherman to enjoy this park. We came to Karumba to say we have been and everybody raves about it but we would not waste our fuel again. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($35 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days.
Likes: The position only - close to the boat ramp and to the hotel
Dislikes: Dusty, vans to close together, no sullage for caravans and overflows around caravans. Clicky atmosphere..if you haven't come here for the last 20 years you will be on the outer.
Parking: no just park at the front of reception
Added Touches: Not while we were there - the only one we know of was the fish cleaning table and they were very good
Local Information: The hotel has good meals and is well priced. The boat ramp is very close and has good parking for a lot of vehicles
Roads: Road into Karumba was quite good considering how much of the road is underwater in the "wet" season.

Gulfland Motel Caravan Park, Normanton

Caravan park at Gulfland Motel (The Big Barra), Landsborough Street, 1.5 km S of Post Office. This park is on the main highway and is not difficult to find, just look for the big Barra. Ph: 07 4745 1290. Pets allowed.

The first thing you notice is a sense of neglect (we think the place is up for sale which could explain that). On arrival we couldn't find anyone to assist us, eventually located a flustered lady in the laundry of the motel who "didn't have time" to help us find a suitable site. We were told to avoid certain sites as they had problems, she took our money and we found our own site. Most of the sites are small but a number have new-looking concrete pads. Most of the sites are gravel and they, and some of the roadways are uneven. There is no night lighting. The amenities are modular and each contains toilet cubicles and three fibreglass shower cubicles. No private changing area, just a double hook outside each shower and a heavy-looking curtain across the front. On the positive side, the shower had a full strong flow of hot water. We only stayed the one night but the park was very quiet. The only external noise we heard was a light aircraft taking off about 6.30am from the airfield next door. Suitable for a night or more.

A pleasant park right in the middle of town (not that the town is all that big). Unfortunately when we were there the spa was not working as it was under repair. The pool is huge and in a beautiful setting. Although there is no kids pool the area is surrounded by fence with child proof gates, so would be considered kid safe. We were shown to our site but no assistance rendered and limited park information was given. There are a number of amenity blocks ranging from unisex combo's to the usual ladies and gents. The hot artesian water is used for the showers so there is no way that the hot water would ever run out, it is also beautifully soft. Very friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($28 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation.
