Just 3 kms west of Bungendore, off Bungendore Road. Dog friendly.

This is a basic showground. Plenty of room to spread out and a powered site for 2A just $15 per night. Volunteers will be on site to collect fees or stop by the bottle shop and pay Mike Bloor. Basic amenities of toilets and hot showers, bore water available. This is an alternative to those wishing to visit Canberra and take the 30 minute drive every day, just like the locals. Especially good during peak event times in Canberra such as Floriade, Summernats, school holidays.
Contributor has no connection to the showground. Badger.

Flemington Rd, Mitchell. Coming from Yass along the Barton Hwy, turn left when you reach the Federal Hwy (Northbourne Avenue). About 2 km on you will see the racecourse on the left then a sign saying to turn left into Flemington Rd. Go past this to the next intersection and turn left at the Shell service station. Follow the road around to the right. The caravan park is a few hundred m up this road. Ph: 02 6230 5793. Pets allowed on leash.

Located in the middle of the EPIC complex and signs are very small. We stopped here because it was the cheapest in the area, having said that, for a no-frills camp site it was way overpriced, but if they can do it then of course they will. The whole place looked and felt uncared for and to be honest we have stopped at free camps that have better quality amenities. But we would stop there again mainly for the lack of a viable alternative in the area. Someone should tell them that if they charge van park prices, then they should provide van park facilities. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($28 2A per night, powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. You can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.

Managed by ACT Gov. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($28 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, disabled facilities, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Friendly atmosphere, plenty of room.
Dislikes: Needed mowing and lack of amenities cleaning. Don't think they were done for the 4 days we were here. Certainly not value for money anymore.
Parking: Plenty of room.
Local Information: Plenty to see and enjoy in Canberra. Tourist Info centre is excellent.

Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night, powered. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. No playground, no bbqs, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Price was very reasonable for Canberra, basically just a powered site with water but like most places there are some comfortable sites while others are pretty ordinary. If you are lucky enough to be there where the trots are running you can take your drinks (or coffee) and camp chair over to the fence and watch for free. We found it easy to get into and suitable for a couple of nights while you sightsee Canberra. A good spot unless you require pools, jumping castles etc. We are happy with just the basics, as long as amenities are cleaned and bins emptied daily and they were the three times we have used the park.
Dislikes: Can be hot and dry and open to the elements but for the price I would not dare to whinge.
Parking: Adequate
Roads: Just off main roads

Report submitted by Graham and Lyn, Adelaide (39).

Large park with a mix of motel rooms, cabins, powered sites and camping. There are around 30 powered sites, and the park seemed to fill most nights we were there (a week) so it could pay to book ahead. The powered sites are drive-through, generally levelled bitumen with a small concrete pad and gravel for the awning area. Cars can be left hitched up for up to medium sized caravans, but plenty of room for the vehicle if unhitched. There are two amenities blocks, cleaned twice a day - always one open. The amenities are clean, but no mops for the showers and no curtain to keep changing area dry. One roomy 'bathroom' in each amenities block has shower, bath, toilet and handbasin. The laundry is good, but some distance from most of the sites. New swimming pool is unheated (what were they thinking, in Canberra) with only part shading. BBQ area was well away from the powered sites, so we used our own. You can see the Telstra Tower from most sites, so TV reception is fine. We had read poor reports about most of the caravan parks in Canberra, but this was fine for our stay. Sites were used by motorhomes and 5th wheelers while we were there, but one particular corner on the access road inside the park could be tight for the bigger rigs. Average staff friendliness. Reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open and roomy. Basic playground in good condition. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Park lacks the feel of a holiday tourist park. All sites are drive through with small concrete slab where you park your van. There are lots of cabins and motel rooms, which are mainly used by schools on their visit to Canberra. Lots of kids but minimal noise. There is a tree next to every drive trough site. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($32.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, mobile coverage (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, no permanents. Good playground in good condition. Clean heated pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

This is a large park with lots of cabins, motel style rooms and a 'bunk house'. All the powered tourist sites are drive thru which are large. The park has no atmosphere. It is very bleak as far as vegetation goes, although it is surrounded by a nature park. Lots of children in the park, as it was school holidays, but they were no trouble to us. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($32.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, no permanents. Suitable for few days.
Likes: The drive thru sites and the parks close proximity to the city and the War Memorial.
Dislikes: Both amenity blocks were small and in need of refurbishment.

Turn off Northbourne Ave at the junction with McArthur. Park is about 2kms along, turn rt at the roundabout and left into Kunzea. There are only about 30 powered van sites in this park so it would be wise to book. The van section was full several nights when we stayed. The place is all bitumen or gravel but there is a tree on every site. Each site is drive thru with a cement slab and plenty of room to park with power, drain and water all together on the correct side of the van - why can't all parks do that It is probably one of the best designed parks around but it is lacking in atmosphere. Management are efficient but impersonal. The place is being taken over by cabins and lodges and caravans are low on the list of priorities. There are 2 large amenity blocks. They are cleaned twice a day but only in a superficial manner. Windows are dirty with dust and cobwebs in abundance. There were 2 spiders in one shower cubicle for the 5 days we were there and I expect they are still there. Also, why do van parks clean amenities between 9 and 10am (and then again at 5pm as you are returning) One good clean in the middle of the day should be fine in winter. The park is in an ideal location close to many attractions and we would stay again for this reason.

81 Donald Road, right-hand side just past Fergus Rd. Donald Road is just S of RSL, 500m S of PO. Head along Canberra Avenue and you will see the signs telling you to turn up Donald Ave. Park situated on a hill with views over Queanbeyan, close to city centre and approx 12km from Parliament House. Ph: 02 6297 2443 or 1800 883 310. Top Tourist member. No pets allowed.

Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($95 2A per night, cabin, off-peak season). Cabin was dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Mostly unlevel sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, secure entry. Noisy, too many permanents. UC electric bbq in dismal bbq area atmosphere. Clean pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: this park was advertised as friendly, clean, quiet. It was none of the above. Only residents were supposed to go past the boom security gate, but young people at the back would let mates in with their cards, one car went in and out 8 times one night, with thumping stereo, some cabins at the rear didn't have parking by the door and had to unload their vehicles quite a distance away, no speed limit imposed, quite a few toddlers wandering around, belonging to permanent residents, no regard for their safety. Without a doubt the worst park we have ever stayed in.
Parking: steep slope for caravans, quite a few scraped as they came in, staff slow and indifferent
Local Information: Canberra is lovely and this park is about 15 mins out, but would not recommend under any circumstances,
Roads: Good roads, but confusing with the amount of roundabouts. Take a wrong turn and you are in big trouble

41 Morrisett Street, 200m east of PO. Located in the heart of Queanbeyan right beside the river. From Canberra take Canberra Avenue to Queanbeyan turn left at Crawford Street and right into Morrisett street. The park is about 300 meters on the right. Ph: 02 6297 4749. The park was recovering from the impact of flooding in early December, the evidence of which was noticeable. This obviously impacted negatively on the park. I have attempted to allow for this in my assessment. Average staff friendliness. Poor value for money ($28 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, dump point, book swap available. Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, no permanents. Clean UC bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: In the middle of town; walking distance to all amenities. Good amenities. Even though the park was crowded it had a good relaxed feel. The site we were on was large enough for van, awning and car.
Dislikes: Outside sites are small and cars are parked on the roadway, making for difficult access/egress. It seemed that the managers were willing to put people on any vacant space leading to a haphazard look about the place.

The facilities were well maintained, but the rest of the park was poorly maintained. The mostly dirt sites turned quickly to mud in the rain. Sites were very close together and it was very busy when we were there. The worst part was the road noise, it was loud and it was 24 hours. We are so surprised by the lack of quality caravan parks in Canberra given that it is an excellent place to visit with so much to see and do. Unfriendly staff. Good value for money ($25 2A). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, concrete annex slabs to some sites, no sites are shaded, adequate taps close by. Arrived for a relatively long stay and was given a small dirt site amongst drunken permanents (drinking until 3am then fighting after that). Small claustrophobic park with average facilities. On the positive side it's cheap, right in Queanbeyan CBD and shopping, and handy to Canberra. Someone with a bit of imagination and hard work could turn this into a first class facility. Until then we'll be going somewhere else.

I arrived here just before closing but my site was taken. I was put in a site I just fitted in for the night to be moved the next morning. The managers were really helpful and refunded my money for that night. I was not impressed after working then driving down to get there before 7 pm but the managers did make it a bit better. First thing the next morning I moved to another site. Next time I will deal with the lady on at night time only and not the one during the day. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints. Price was as expected, good value for money ($22 1A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: I like this park and where it is located the park is well maintained and well looked after and is dog friendly. It is close to the shops in Queanbeyan and not too far from Canberra and lovely park next door and right on the river.
Dislikes: The BBQ took me an hour to cook my dinner.
Local Information: There is so much to see and do in Canberra that I didn't see much in Queanbeyan.

Likes: Tennis court, mini golf, jumping pillow
Dislikes: Very limited number of showers and toilets, queues in the morning and afternoon. Permanent residents drive past camping sites at speed and with radio's blaring all hours of the night. It would be better if they had a separate area to access the park not through the camping ground.

Build up of soap scum in the showers. The showers were nice and roomy and had shower curtains but were of the old design where everyone's water floats by at the back of your shower cubicle. They were in need of a good scrub. The toilet paper reels were empty and small rolls were stacked up on the cisterns. Noisy in the early morning when permanent residents must leave the park to go to work. Cars, not obeying the park speed limit began rushing by at about 6am. Most of the drive through tourist sites face this exit road so there was no avoiding it. We have stayed at this park many years ago but would not bother again.

Manager's name is Bill & Marilyn Tilder. We stayed for 6 nights in the time we were there we found the staff very busy but there always seemed to be more work than staff as most of them were working on or in the units. The third day we were there a mains water pipe broke which left the whole park without water for some time. We found the amenities looking very tired in the male block. There was three showers and in all the time we were there one of them was closed for repair. In the laundry there was no drier and in Canberra we feel this is a must as there was a lot of rain. On getting to my site I found that it was an old site that was very rocky and unlevel so after a complaint to the management I was allowed to move over a bit to get away from the rocks but in doing so I was right next to the next permanent van. When it rained water came straight through our annex and made a mess. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($30 2A per night, powered, peak season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. No pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Mostly drive through sites, sealed bitumen, easy to park.
Dislikes: Park is catering for school visits to Canberra making it at times extremely noisy, particularly near the jumping pillow. Drive through sites are bordered by bushes giving insufficient room for the awning - trimming these bushes could improve the situation. Ceilings in amenity building consists of wooden slats with large gaps between them giving view into the roof space which is full of spider webs. Gives good ventilation but could do with a good cleaning. Permanents are situated at the back of the park behind the caravan area. The road between the parked caravans and sports area (Jumping Pillow, Tennis Court) is used as their access. This creates a lot of noise from cars passing through.

Federal Hwy, Eagle Hawk Hill. 15 mins on the Sydney side of Canberra. It is close to the United Service station on the left coming from Sydney. Ph: 02 6241 6411. Pets allowed.

We like this park but like all parks in Canberra it has lots of visiting schools. We had trouble with excessive noise and incursion into our annexe space by children running through to the pool. One teacher told us that "they are just children" and yelled at us that we were being unreasonable for objecting to 14 to 15 year olds running through our annexe. She put the cause of religious and racial tolerance back years. The same school the following week woke us up at 12:30 am on three consecutive nights arriving back from somewhere or other with zero teacher control. School students are supposed to move about the park on roadways only but another school terrorized one particular campsite by running through on either side of a 2 man tent. Management supposedly spoke to them about it but even the teachers chose to ignore the request. There are also bunkhouse type buildings for workers and one particular group kept the entire camp awake until 3:30 am on Friday and Saturday nights (both weeks we were there) with loud and obscene language. Understandably, no one complained, not wishing to risk their safety. We were told by management that they were planning on moving the tourist section completely away from the schools/bunkhouse areas. There are a lot of permanent residents in the park but we did not find any problems with them at all. Having said all this we plan to return to this park in future. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints Good value for money ($28 2A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Optus, reception quality was 4). Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Generous sites. Even though it is out a little from Canberra centre it is easy to reach via the Federal Hwy and is close to Gungahlin.
Dislikes: Excessive noise from visiting groups. We were required to sign an agreement to abide by park rules but they were not enforced by management on others who flaunted them.

We were not shown to our site but given a map, nor were we told of any amenities. When we complained about the stench at our site we were advised that the plumber was coming that afternoon, he didn't. We suggested that it may be the watering in front of our site and they offered to turn off the sprinkler which was "grey" water but they didn't until evening and then the smell disappeared. We were quoted $38 per night and they deducted the first night's stay as deposit. When we arrived we were told we had to pay an extra $5 per night as Floriade was on and therefore it was peak season. The park is undergoing renovations and will probably be quite lovely but at the moment it is definitely not value for money. Out site was ensuite but open to all elements with not grass underfoot and quite dusty. The staff were friendly until we disputed the extra charge then became quite defensive. We have been to Canberra twice in two years and would love to find a 5 STAR park. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($43 2A per night, ensuite, off-peak season). Ensuite was clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, no sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, car wash. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Dirty UC bbq, dismal bbq area atmosphere. Excellent playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Location to Canberra
Dislikes: BBQ's and Camp Kitchen were both filthy and could not use whilst we were there.
Parking: Parking while checking in was adequate.
Added Touches: There were no special touches.
Local Information: The bistro in the pub next door is excellent and pub very friendly. Close to all attractions of Canberra.
Roads: Road conditions were good.

Canberra South Motor Park, Symonston

Canberra Avenue & Monaro Hwy. On southern side of Canberra, about 500 m S of New Parliament House, entrance on Canberra Ave. The only park on the southern side of Canberra. All other caravan parks in the ACT are many km distant in the northern end of the city. Ph: 02 6280 6176. No pets allowed.

We were initially put off by the lacklustre frontage, but after driving around to the other two nearest parks we came back. If you have a soft floor camper trailer, a tent, or in any way are wanting to peg in, there aren't a lot of other choices. It's not the fanciest park we've stayed at, but it's fine. Management are varied, woman who checked us in was lovely but other staff that we met were a bit grumpy, though not rude. Stayed for 5 nights, being Thursday through Monday, and while the pub was certainly popular it wasn't a problem in any way, and we didn't hear anything from the plentiful permanents either. Quite a nice pub actually, except that you have to wade through the smokers to get inside. Convenience / liquor store on site is reasonably priced, though beware of expiry dates on some items. Paved powered sites seem to fit most vans (there are a couple of very large Jayco Sterlings around) and while they're not dead level, nor particularly well landscaped (lawn = weeds) they're just fine. There were also powered grass sites, which were also not particularly level. Amenities are plentiful and clean, water pressure was fine though a couple of the shower taps were a bit fussy. Laundry is $3 hot wash with $1 dryers which was pretty good, as it rained the whole time we were there. Small playground, no pool or rec room or camp kitchen. Free BBQs around the edges of the park. The Fyshwich food markets just down the road (take Canberra Ave back towards Parliament, turn at KFC) are pretty excellent, bakeries butchers vegies and plonk, they're open Thurs-Sun. The Old Bus Depot Markets were quite cool also, crafts plus snack food. Location of this park wins, good as a base for seeing a quite interesting town, but if you want a fancy caravan park experience for itself, perhaps Canberra as a whole is not the place for you. $25 2A, peak season.

Manager's name is Jim. Friendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($48 2A 2C per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is bad, there was inadequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, kiosk, dump point, secure entry, wireless internet is available. Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Likes: Proximity to city for sightseeing. Also had a tavern, restaurant, convenience store, etc in park. Amenities were always cleaned.
Dislikes: Too many permanents who spent most of the time at the tavern, park is very run down and not maintained. Could not believe the poor standard of permanent dwellings allowed at the park. Very noisy when tavern closed each night, also a lot of traffic day & night.
