Bathurst Information
Bathurst is a great place to set up camp and explore the region. Bathurst is a historical town with close proximity to The Jenolan Caves, Katoomba and Blue Mountains. Mount Panorama, Mecca to the motor racing fan. Mt Panorama Motor Museum is a must as is a drive around the circuit. Very friendly staff at the local information centre on the way into town. If visiting Jenolan Caves, suggest booking first.

Bathurst Showgrounds, Bathurst
On the main highway, opposite the tourist information centre. Basic showground facilities. Convenient location, walk into the CBD. Reasonable value for money. Poor amenities. Average sites. Park atmosphere was okay. Dogs allowed.
Likes: Only place in the district to take a dog.
Dislikes: A little bit of road noise.
Parking: Caretaker on site. Drive in gate - van sites are just to the right, near the road.
Date 06/2006. Park Rating 2.5: Suitable for overnighter.

BIG4 Bathurst Panorama Holiday Park, Bathurst
Great Western Highway, 5 kms east of post office, in township of Kelso on right-hand side of road if coming from Sydney. Ph: 02 6331 8286 or 1800 669 911. BIG4 member. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is J & L Jarvis. $35 per night, ensuite, with BIG4 discount. Park is on hill and sites are on 3 levels as are the cabins. Ensuite sites are divided by tall pine hedges so very private, TV connection and aerial provided. All sites would be hard to get into if park was busy. Ensuite is immaculate with fan, heater, soap, hand towel, bath mat. Amenities are spotless and large, only one block which are a distant for some sites. Would not cope well in busy times. Good, friendly management. Suitable for a few days.

This is the only caravan park in Bathurst. We paid $32.40 for 2A 2C for a powered site after discount. Entry is the same entrance as the Gold Panner Motel located next door. Park is very clean with well manicured gardens and lawns. Amenities are extremely clean with plenty of showers and toilets. Paper towel supplied but no soap. Only problem is that they are extremely cold in winter. There is a small bar heater that does absolutely nothing, especially when the mornings were -5 degrees!. A large gas style heater would be have been better. Although the water was hot, we felt that it was not hot enough, probably due to the coldness of the amenities I'm sure there would be no problem in the warmer months. Some sites have concrete slabs, others are on a blue metal base. All sites are average in size and central to amenities. There is a pool, playground, tennis court and free gas BBQ's. Friendly management.
Date 06/2006. Park Rating 3.5: Suitable for any length of stay.
Report submitted by Pete, Deb, Jack & Lucy, NSW.

Cost $26 2A powered. Nicely landscaped on different tiers, friendly management. Reasonable value for money., adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by, family-friendly park, the park was well maintained.
Dislikes: Difficult to make a right hand turn at times from the park onto the highway.
Parking: Adequate parking near the office.
Date 04/2006. Park Rating 4: Suitable for a up to week or more.
Report submitted by Higgi and Bomber.

Look for sign indicating park on the left. Turn by the Harvey Norman store. Friendly staff who were looking after the park for the owners whilst they had a break. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($32 2A per night powered). Amenities are close to all sites. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites. Good laundry, good rec room, car wash. Quiet, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: The Ensuite sites are excellent with high hedges allowing privacy between sites and near new ensuites. Soap, hand towel and bathmat provided. TV hook up on ensuite sites. The privacy of the hedging allowed us to sleep in easily!
Dislikes: Some sites have a very slight slope as the park is cut into the side of a hill. Generally most are flat.
Parking: A little crowded when we booked, but no problems, just park wherever the entrance is wide.

Stayed 3 days $22.50 p/n, powered site discount rate. Reception average friendliness, no tourist information given. We were given a map of the park, with site 91 allocated to us. Our site was directly opposite the entry, had no shade, was on tar so was very hot in 39oc heat. As we were directly opposite the entry and up a hill, we did get some breeze, which helped in the heat. The site was uneven so our van had to be hitched up quite a bit in the front. But on the whole, because of the breeze, it turned out to be a pretty good spot, and we could see all incoming and outgoing traffic. Park layout is on different levels, with most sites level, some slabs, some dirt or gravel with minimum shade. Gardens were lovely with grass being watered. Amenities block, one only, was central but quite a distance from some sites and was very clean. There were 8 toilets and 7 showers with paper towels provided. Permanents were around the outer area of the park and were no problem. There are lots of cabins. On the whole it is an excellent park and we were surprised that a city the size of Bathurst has only one park. We would stay again for any length of time.

Broken Hill Information

An excellent caravan spares/repairs business just 700 metres up the road. Visit the excellent Information Centre - includes a cafe and plenty of parking. Broken Hill is rich in history and sights to see. Visit the ghost town of Silverton, the location for the shooting of over a hundred movies such as A Town Like Alice and Mad Max II. On the way, go underground at the Daydream Mine. Before leaving Silverton drive a little further and see the incredible views from the lookouts on the way to the Umberumberka Reservoir which is also worth seeing - a lake where you'd never expect to find water. Back in Broken Hill visit the Miners Memorial on top of a huge slag heap overlooking the town and have a coffee while gazing over this famous city. Learn how BHP was born and how some of the original syndicate sold out for a pittance their share of what was to become a multi-million dollar ore strike.
There is a lot to see and a week would be well spent here. Mine tours, interesting cafes and tours, both short and long. Very interesting place. Good shopping and good place to restock.
Broken Hill is well known as "The accessible outback". Interesting buildings, mine tours and range of classy art galleries.
Lots to see and do in Broken Hill (mines, galleries, historic buildings). Good variety of food available.
Great assistance given from the local Tourist information Office. Extremely helpful and friendly. A must stop for right tourist advice.

Broken Hill City Caravan Park, Broken Hill

Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, van parking. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. Clean heated pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Seems to be a park preferred by the grey nomads - wonderful atmosphere and lots of friendly people to talk to.
Dislikes: little/no grass - it's all dusty bark chip for a base, and in a tent that's a cleaning nightmare. Still, this park is far superior to the other main park in town, and certainly more secure.

A Top Tourist just out of town. Large park and very busy. Not a lot of grass so it was quite dusty. As we had a dog we were required to go down one end of the park - obviously the dog area. It seemed that they take dogs under sufferance! Facilities were o.k. Clean but as the place is obviously always so busy you sometimes have to wait for a cubicle to be free. This park is functional as a convenience only to see the sites around Broken Hill. We stayed 3 nights - long enough. Average staff friendliness. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($28 2A per night, powered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, kiosk, dump point. Noisy, not enough shade. Good playground. Clean pool. Suitable for overnighter, well maintained park.

This park is on major highway, but traffic noise not a problem. Checking in and parking is plentiful and easy. Reception was very precise and not particularly welcoming. No offer of assistance to site offered. Tourist information was via direction to a wall of pamphlets. Site had wood chips, but no grass. En-suite site was basic but had a few little extras like a bath mat and shower curtain. Cost was $37 2A per night, but considering the convenience this seemed fair. This was a very clean park with mostly level sites and surrounds. There was plenty of BBQs throughout the park. Amenities were mostly good. Laundry inadequate in wet weather (which we endured for some days). The cost for washers was $4 and dryers were in increments of $4 at a time. This was a bit over the top we felt. Lovely pool and recreation area but considering the temperature at the time of our visit we didn't test the water temperature. Internet was only available to those with their own wireless computers. Average staff friendliness. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money.

Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($31.5 2A per night, ensuite, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Clean heated pool is open to sun, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: This is a well run park, they are always cleaning and tidying up. The en-suites are huge and worth the extra money. The pool area is very lush and tropical looking. We've been going here for years now and have never been disappointed.
Dislikes: There are still dirt sites in this park. Make sure you ask for a grass or chip-bark site when booking. Some of the sites are a bit small.
Parking: Plenty just inside the park entrance
Local Information: Plenty to see in Broken Hill. The Living Desert and Sculpture site are worth seeing. Also go to Silverton and a bit further to the Umberumberka Reservoir. Plenty of art galleries and museums as well as some interesting mining sites. You can easily spent a couple of weeks here.

Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($27 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Good laundry, basic rec room. Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Good playground in good condition. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: In the absence of grass cover due to ongoing drought wood chips are spread and make a very acceptable surface.
Dislikes: BBQ's are long overdue for replacement in one of the undercover areas. They had burnt out burners and were very slow due to this situation.
Parking: Plenty of parking made available off the main road when checking in.

Clean heated pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer.
Likes: We had one of the many really lovely grassed sites - lush and so luxurious
Dislikes: I wouldn't have liked to stay there is we were put on the dirt sites - very basic compared to our lovely well maintained grass site.

Manager's name is Leanne and Andrew Tompkins Already an excellent park, they are working hard to make it even better. We were very impressed with just about everything. There is some traffic noise from the Barrier Highway but we never noticed it at night. Without going into a lot of detail, it is fair to say this park rates as one of the best parks we've visited in over 3 years on the road. Very good management, friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Good value for money ($20.80 2A powered site after weekly and Top Tourist discount). Good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point. Good atmosphere to park, open and roomy park, family-friendly park. Good clean pool, pool area is shaded. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, the park was well maintained.
Dislikes: The dump point was a little far to walk with a full 20 litre cassette - but it's car accessible.
Added Touches: Due to water shortage sites are on a thick carpet of wood chips - level, no mud, no dust, no ants. Every shower/WC cubicle has its own little waste bin with a liner.
Parking: A huge parking area opposite the office.

Park is adjacent to main road, but we were not bothered by noise at night. Park has playground, but only noticed it on our way out of town. Friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($25 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Amenities are reasonable, but I found shower temp varied from frigid to 'yeow' as others used showers - if you can, shower at a less popular time. They do have some en suite powered sites, but these are popular and you need to book ahead - I had a look in one left open, and they seem fairly basic but clean. Adequate number of tourist sites, all level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Some grassed sites, some wood chips and some gravel - it just depends where you end up. Good laundry, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point. Quiet, open and roomy, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. All pets allowed. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Dislikes: $25 price is before member discount - a bit high given the facilities.
Parking: Drive in and follow signs to the right, plenty of room.

Peaceful, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days.
Dislikes: This park has become lazy taking up all the grass sites and replacing them with wood chip which in turn get into the caravan leaving marks and dents on the vinyl. It is impossible to leave the van without shoes because of the large shaped wood chips.
Roads: Bitumen.

Stayed 3 days, $20.70p/n powered site TT discount rate. Reception very friendly and helpful and we were given a map and told what sites were available. We asked for a back site as previous reports stated there was highway noise. We were told the back sites had been covered with wood chips, because of problems maintaining grass during the drought. We were happy with wood chips so chose site BC3, even though it was a bit of a walk to the ablutions block. This proved to be a great site, under shady trees, reasonably level, and very quiet. I looked over the high wall behind us and decided the back neighbours would be no problem (cemetery). Other sites had grass, some with concrete slabs and shade. The under cover camp kitchen near our site was excellent with a television, ping-pong table, as well as the usual jug/toaster/microwave, all in very good and clean condition. The computers were under repair when we were there. The ablution block was spotless and in excellent condition, with good water pressure, and plenty of clothesline space. The shaded pool area, although small, was very clean. We would definitely stay again.

Lake View Caravan Park, Broken Hill
1 Mann Street. 3 kms north-east of Post Office. The park is on the eastern side of town and well sign posted. If travelling from Adelaide, go through the town and it is up on the right just before you head out of the 60 zone. Ph: 08 8088 2250. Dogs welcome (under strict control). Family Parks member.
Some site not level and no drive throughs. Given drought very little grass coverage. Some shaded trees. Size of site adequate. Ablution block small for the number of sites and in need of refurbishment. No liquid soap provided and tablet soap soon disappeared from the wash basins. Poor night lighting. Access roads need some attention. Dump site adequate. Recreation rooms in poor condition. Lack any securing eg boom gate access.

Dislikes: We had been there for three days and the manager lobbed up to us and asks what we were doing on this site. We replied that we had booked for week and had receipt for same. His reply was that we were not in the "system". This happened to others in the park at the same time. We had prepaid for this site but on arrival found another caravan in this site which was one of only a couple we could have fitted into. No apologies from the management for mistakes made. We found their attitude poor and rude. With each site at this caravan park management should supply large slabs for jacking the van up level. This park is dirty and dusty with no maintained roads and dusts blows all over the place. We will never return to this park.

Cobar Caravan Park, Cobar
Barrier Highway, 1 km west of Post Office. On the right after passing through town when coming from Nyngan. Ph: 02 6836 2425. Extra charge for using credit cards. Dogs on leash.
Manager's name is B & L Banister. We asked for a drive-thru site and were put at back of park on grass site that had power but no water except for a tap to be shared by a number of vans. The other sites in park have slabs and are large enough to reverse into and stay hitched, so don't bother about asking for a drive-thru site. Paid by cash and fee was $23, not value for money. Amenities, clean, very small and not near the drive-thru sites. Park is on Barrier Highway and it is noisy. Average staff friendliness. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Suitable for overnighter.

I'm told that you cannot phone ahead and book and need to be in between 3 & 4pm to get the better sites, but there still looked like plenty of sites. Friendly management, management was helpful. Reasonable value for money. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Good sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by. Laundry, good camp kitchen. Good atmosphere to park. Clean UC gas bbq. Suitable for a week or more, the park was well maintained.

Report submitted by JK & L - The Big Trip.

2 night stay. The lady who greeted us was business-like and efficient, if not over friendly. Reasonable value for money; fees were $22 cash for 2A on powered site ($23 if using credit card). The park grounds were excellent, well maintained with wide bitumen roadways, rich green grass, good concrete slabs, sites large and widely spaced, plenty of trees. Plenty of handy garbage bins. The main ablution block let the park down. On the positive side it was sufficiently large, the toilet paper was good quality and a toilet brush was provided. Soft soap and paper towels were provided. On the negative side the two hooks in each shower stall were too high, out of reach for children. The dressing area was wet and messy as no mop was provided. The paintwork was a depressing chocolate brown colour. Out of four showers in the ladies, two were not used as one had a broken tap and a second had a broken soap dish with jagged edges. The other two were full of dirty footprints and there was no mop. The gents was fully functional but also in need of some maintenance, and a coat of paint would work wonders. Poor amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Would we use this park again? Yes, it is a very nice park except for the ablutions and they could easily be improved. It is the only caravan park in Cobar. Very good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by. Good atmosphere to park. Suitable for a few days.
Likes: Large, easily accessible sites with plenty of space between neighbours. Room to remain hitched if desired. Wide roads with bitumen surface. Green grass.
Dislikes: The main ablution block needed a lot of T.L.C.
Local Information: The Tourist Information Centre is well worth a visit. It includes an interesting museum. The local gold mine has an excellent viewing platform overlooking the 150 metre deep open cut mine which has now been developed to include a tunnel from the bottom of the pit leading down a further 450 metres below the ground. Watch the giant haul packs emerge full of ore and struggle up the winding track to surface level, then tip.

Manager's name is Mick, Sally, Brad & Louise. We rang from Bourke to check booking levels etc and were told that they do not take phone bookings and they had been filling to capacity in previous nights, but if you get in by 3:00 to 3:30 you should be able to 'pick your site'. We got there around 3pm, and the park filled rapidly after that. Other reports have indicated plenty of room / low occupancy, so you may want to ring ahead with this one. Good park for overnighters. We drove through Wilcannia the following day, and did not look closely at the caravan park there, but from what we saw of the park and the town generally, I would definitely recommend Cobar. Friendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($22 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry. Quiet, open and roomy, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq ($1/15 mins), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for a few days, well maintained park.
Dislikes: BBQ was supposed to be $1 for 20 minutes - it lasted barely 15 min and I reckon that is a bit rich.

Denman Van Village, Denman
About 2 kms south of post office in Macauley Street. Ph: 02 6547 2590.
Local Information: There are two close hotels with Lunch and Dinner deals. Further towards the park there is also a Bowling club. This is actually a good staging point to visit surrounding places of interest like Glen Davis, Glen Alice & Rylstone in the Wollomai National Park. If you are travelling with a pet you would have to leave it in the caravan.

Upon entering this park one question was asked of the management, "Is there burrs here"; the answer was No. First thing found at our site was huge clumps of burrs. All sites are ensuite but the units were old, dirty and run down. This park is full of daggy old vans and in dire need of an upgrade. We could not wait to vacate this park.

Dubbo Information

Dubbo Zoo is a must see, very well presented, clean, the animals do not look stressed but happy and well feed.
Old Dubbo Goal is a must see.

Dubbo Cabin and Caravan Parklands, Dubbo
Whylandra Street. 300m south of West Dubbo Bowling Club. On right about 500 metres past golf club as you enter Dubbo from south on Newell Highway. Ph: 02 6884 8633 or 1800 033 072. BIG4 member. No pets.
If we wanted to pay $51.00 per night for a caravan site, it would not be in Dubbo. Didn't even pay that in Broome in peak season. Uninterested reception staff gave us a map of park, but no offer of assistance and no local information given. Staff became even plainer when we complained that the site was too small for our large van and we could not put out the awning, although we were then given another site. There was almost a mutinee in the in the amenities, with a number of very cranky ladies very unhappy with the cost. There are many drive through, narrow sites, with concrete ramp for van, but no slab for under the awning, just sparse grass and fallen leaves. The amenities are large and very clean, not convenient to most sites. Water pressure to van is excellent and all connections are right beside. There is a nice pool area, playground and jumping pillow, which is what we think the star rating must be based on. For this park, it is certainly not based on size of van sites, convenience of parking or turning allowances. The park is out of town, surrounded by a high fence, which seems to be the safest place for Dubbo. The park has a general well kept, modern appearance. The zoo is a must see experience.
Date 06/2009. Park Rating 3: We have already re-arranged out plans for next year to not include Dubbo.

This is a large tourist park, close to the Dubbo Zoo. Easy drive to the city shops or a long walk. Reception staff were professional but not particularly friendly. Busy park with all facilities. Well laid out, good ensuites albeit small but very functional. The site was a bit tight to negotiate and needed some skill and patience. Lots of grass and trees. Most sites had concrete wheel slabs and some had concrete slabs for annexes but limited. Bitumised roads throughout. Nice pool and camp kitchen. When we stayed the grounds looked like they needed attention with the grass long and edges overgrown - but it was summer in a drought season. Overall a very comfortable park reasonably priced for the 'tourist' facilities. Obviously a problem with security in the town/park with warnings about locking up. We heard of anecdotes on the road of vans being broken into. Good for long or short stays but I would be very conscious of security. Represented reasonable value at $27 a night for two after Big 4 discount.

Manager's name is Chris Burr. Very well presented park, lacking the personnel touch. The reception was abysmal, very matter of fact, even if it was on a Sunday. No parking/site assistance or directions given, just a park map. Area guide given only after a request. Considering the difficulties Dubbo have had recently I would have thought they would be bending over backwards to enhance their reputation. Word of mouth is the best advertisement. I have to say we did not encounter any of the so called troubles Dubbo have had of late. Dubbo is a nice place to visit and of course the Dubbo Zoo is a must see. The park is very good, with a greater emphasis on the personnel touch it would be a great park. Unfriendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Price was as expected ($18.90 2A per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, secure entry. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. A bit hard to find. We received a very friendly welcome, the Manager made a big effort to make us feel welcome walking us into the park and explaining the options for our site. He also explained the special meal deals in town and offered a small discount for petrol at the Shell servo. The park is well grassed, some shady spots, flat, drive through sites, sealed roads and on a nice stretch of river which is flood lit at night. The toilets and shower facilities are older but reasonably well maintained - being clean and freshly painted. Nice pool. The Manager provides a sausage sizzle on Thursday nights with some live entertainment. They are obviously working very hard to be a good park. Reasonable value for about $20 after the discount and you can save another buck or two on the petrol discount if you need it. A very tidy town and we would stay again for a couple of nights. The Manager certainly needs to be rewarded for his attention to customer service.

This is a great little park. It has only about 12 tourist sites but they are level and one of the roomiest I've been in. Also in walking distance of town, the other parks are too far out of town. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($15 A1 per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good camp kitchen. Open & roomy park, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter to a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: Each site has plenty of room for the van, annex and car. As well as this there is plenty of room between each site. It is the closest park to town. Would definitely stay again.
Dislikes: The park backs onto a metal fabrication factory. There was some noise, but only during working hours. This didn't bother me as I was out most of the day and work ceased about 4 pm. There are some permanents, but weren't a problem.
Local Information: If you are into bushrangers there's plenty for you.

Managers Jamie and Diane. A nice, quiet little park on the banks of the Castlereagh River with quite a transient population as there isn't a lot to hold tourists in Gilgandra. $22 2A powered site) was reasonable. We felt an immediate rapport with managers Jamie and Diane who were most welcoming, relaxed and funny. We declined their offer to park our caravan for us. The sites were on such lush, soft, green grass that the lack of concrete pads didn't matter. Power and water supplies were right where we needed them and the amenities blocks within metres. Soft soap and paper towels were supplied wherever there were basins. In the WC there was good quality toilet paper (hurray!) and a toilet brush - so important if you prefer to leave things as you would expect to find them. Likewise, there was a mop in the shower block with a polite request posted on the back of each door that shower users mop the dressing area floor for the next user. All amenities were clean and perfectly adequate. The walk into town took 5 - 10 minutes. We saw a pool and barbecue facilities. The park atmosphere was totally relaxed. When I asked if I could wash our caravan the reply was, "Of course you can, Mate. Go for it." Would we stay there again? You bet we would.

Manager's name is Mark. We have stayed at this small park on a couple of previous occasions. Good value at $21 2A for powered site. Although on a main road, it could be noisy due to traffic if parked/camped near the road but we have found it to be fairly quiet with undisturbed sleep. The park has slabs for caravans, is grassed, tidy and within walking distance of town particularly for a fine, good value dinner at the Railway Hotel. The amenities are beginning to show their age but the staff work effectively to keep them clean and tidy with good hot water flow. There is a covered BBQ area that is spotless. Friends accompanying us during our last stay used a cabin which they described as very clean and comfortable. It's convenient location suits a few days stay in a country town where all people we met were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. Harden is separated from the sister town of Murrumburrah by the width of a creek. This is a lovely park currently undergoing a change of management. The community helps run the park ie making sure there is enough wood at the fire ring, that the park is clean and tidy etc. It is a council owned park. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($15.50 2A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.

Excellent value for money. Lachlan shire seems to have spent a lot of money recently to improve this park; a new amenities block and retiled the old one; a great camp kitchen the best we have seen in a park at anywhere near this price. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($15.50 2A per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, large sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, good camp kitchen. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Good clean and value for money with large sites
Dislikes: It appears that 2 TV stations require antenna pointed one direction and the other two in another direction, management only said look at others but they also pointed in both directions and many houses had 2 antennas
Parking: wide quiet street

Council managed. This place is fantastic value for money ($14.20 2A per night). We were very impressed with the enormous (and, we think, very new) camp kitchen with 2 fridges, cook-top, microwave, sink and great free gas barbecue. There is a new amenities block as well as the old one. Both were spotless. Loads of hot water with good pressure. Adequate, cheap meals at The Royal Mail Hotel and there are two supermarkets in town. Suitable for a few days

This is a nice well looked after council park. The manager we saw working in the park nearly all our stay, ensuring it was well maintained. He was also very friendly. Very friendly staff, van parking assistance provided by staff. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($14 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: It was close to the lake, even though the lake was down. It was well maintained, green grass (even though in drought). We were the only ones there so could park anywhere we wanted to. It was a nice walk into the town centre also, and the oval opposite us so the dogs could have a run.
Dislikes: Only 2 toilets and showers which were fine when we were there, but I don't think they would cope in peak times.
Parking: Park off the road whilst check in.
Local Information: The lake is now full, but when we were there it wasn't but it rained whilst we were there. That is the main attractions and 24 km out of town is Lake Cargelligo weir which is a nice spot also.
Roads: The road in was fine, we came from Condobolin and took the sealed route with no problems.

UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

Basically a free camp but $10/night/van to cover the small but good amenities block. Lake is good for boating, yabbies & trout. Power at 1 site only. No water. Sullage is to nearest tree, but probably only reason why they have survived the drought. Very pretty at sun rise/set. Excellent BBQ area. Best kids playground I have seen of any park, including the big 'touristy' ones. Friendly management. Very good value for money. Amenities were clean, were in good condition. Good sites, sites were level, late checkout allowed (past noon). Good atmosphere to park, quiet, open and roomy park, shady park, family-friendly park. Dogs allowed at mangers discretion, but they're pretty good. Clean free UC electric bbq, lit at night, with seating provided. Excellent playground in good condition.
Likes: Quiet, campfires allowed subject to fire restrictions, blackberry picking (but check with park manager where he's sprayed).
Dislikes: Lots of bindii mid-summer. Brass monkeys mid-winter.
Local Information: Good base camp for touring the Lithgow/Jenolan region
Campground Rating 2.5: Suitable for a few days.

Lithgow Caravan Park, Lithgow
Also known as Lithgow Tourist & Van Park. 58 Cooerwull Road, just off Great Western Highway near Tourist Information Centre. 3kms from GPO.
It is signposted but if you are travelling at 90 or more km an hour it is easy to miss. Ph: 02 6351 4350. Dogs on leash. This park will take dogs, but they are not really dog friendly. You can only exercise your dog out of the park, which is fine, but on the way walking out of the park, you are meant to try to stop your dog going to the toilet which can be hard first thing in the morning. When I arrived for the night about 5.30 to 6 pm, the office was unattended for a while, then I requested a drive thru site as I didn't want to unhitch for the night, a bit reluctant to give me one, only decided to in the end because of the time. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($25 A1 per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. No pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: It is the only park in Lithgow, and the only park between Sydney and Cowra that takes dogs.
Dislikes: Management wasn't too friendly, the son who was only about 13 or so was friendly who came as there was no on in the office. Dog friendly but not allowed to walk dogs in the park was fine, but to try to get your dog to go to the toilet even on the road first thing in morning is hard.
Parking: Parking inside the park near the office.
Local Information: Zig Zag railway is great and dog friendly.
Roads: Good bitumen road.

The cost was $21 per night but we were charged an extra $1 an hour for every hour we were there before 2pm. We were there early as we had to meet someone. There is no pool and the children's playground almost non-existent and broken. Sites were OK and pretty level and some quite nice and shady. Two lots of ablutions which were clean and adequate but not real modern. Area is fairly quiet apart from a bit of highway noise which was not too bad. Recreation room in very poor condition. TV didn't work and ping-pong table barely adequate. There is heaps to do in the area which is why we chose there. We found plenty to do in our three day stay.

Copi Hollow Caravan Park, Menindee
15kms before Menindee on the Broken Hill to Menindee Road, just after you cross the Darling River. Ph: 08 8091 4880. Pets at manager's discretion.
Manager's name is Eve & Phil Watts. I think this park in busy times may be noisy, heaps of annual vans with boats. The park is adjacent to the Broken Hill Speed Boat Club. They do not have water to caravan sites but there is plenty of drinking water in the tanks outside the amenities blocks. There are two blocks, the closest one to the camping area is small and oldish, but the new one at the back of the park is great. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was much higher than expected, poor value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Basic laundry, late checkout allowed (up to noon). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Clean gas bbq (20c), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for overnighter, well maintained park.
Likes: Plenty of lush lawns, the larger amenities block was great.
Dislikes: Roadways in park need looking at (rough), no water to sites, overnight prices way over the top

A good setting next to Copi Hollow Lake, with some established shelter trees and new seedling planted. Well watered grass all through powered site area although site roads are unmade and dusty. The site is mainly used by Broken Hill people with most of the permanent vans empty until weekends. General condition is a bit down and out - amenities were just about OK, but old and not very inviting. Biggest complaint is that there is no water available - not even non-drinking water. On top of this we were charged $25 for a powered site (2A), which is way over the top for a basic site without water. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Beautiful setting, overlooking lake and wild life
Dislikes: No water and exorbitant charges

Manager's name is Pam and Kevin Kelly. We found the locals to be friendly and outgoing, welcoming visitors with a "G'day" a smile and a touch of the hat/cap to the ladies. We were part of a group of 5 caravans who spent 4 days in the town, and we could not believe how much we were made welcome. The caravan park is owned by the Cabonne Council and managed by Pam and Nev, who went out of their way to welcome us. They provided a portable gas BBQ for us, and a half a 44 gallon drum turned into a fireplace for a campfire, and kept up a good supply of firewood. None of this was asked for or expected. It is a bit humbling to see this kind of welcome, and while it might be more than could be expected under any circumstances, there are many parks that could take a lesson from here. There are only 16 powered sites in the park, but there is ample room to expand if the need was there. We were told by the management that facilities are available to supply a limited number of additional powered sites should they be required. Unpowered sites are ample. There are only 3 permanent residents in the park, additional to the 16 sites. Showers and toilets are not the most modern buildings around, but they are full brick, spotlessly clean and have soap dispensers, plentiful hot water, and paper towels, and capable of handling the existing park site requirements. There is no deposit on amenities key. Laundry has modern appliances, and the use of them is free. Electric undercover BBQ's are available, together with seating and tables, again free. Management is friendly, courteous and responsive to needs. There were no complaints. Assistance with parking given if required. Tourist info available. Sites are generally quite large, in our case there were 2 23ft vans back to back, drawbars well clear of the road, and with about 2 metres between the rear. Drive through sites can be provided if required. Price was as expected, a very admirable $15.50 2A per night powered, seniors rate. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. No rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), disabled facilities, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Local Information: There is plenty of sights to see in Molong and surrounds, and is much cheaper to stay then in the larger nearby town parks. It provides a good central base for the much understated tourism facilities of the district.

There seems to be a waterslide and a kiosk, but they were not open during our visit. It seems the kiosk is only open on weekends except on public holidays and school holidays. Showers are 20c for 3.5 minutes with plenty of hot water. Campers are advised not to drink the water at the sites, we used it for everything except drinking or cooking, eg ok for washing up. Drinking water is available from the fresh water tank. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money. The park fees at the time of our visit were $20.00 per night for a powered site, however, if you are an age pensioner or a senior your $20.00 will get you two nights out of school holiday times or public holiday weekends. Unpowered is $15.00 a night, or for two nights if you are a pensioner or senior. Hot solar showers so be quick, toilets. Fireplaces, but you are not allowed to collect wood so get it from outside the national park on the way in. The road is mostly very good gravel until you reach the park boundary, a long time ago they bituminized it & it is now full of pot holes etc very slow going would be much better getting rid of what is left of the sealing. Very interesting park with conducted tours by the indigenous owners, in excellent condition when we were there but would be terrible if too dry or hot. Generators not allowed & no power. Good for 2 or 3 days. Bore water not recommended for drinking but it is fine, & plenty of taps.

Parking: Plenty of parking away from the road.
Local Information: Good market on the Sunday we were there, war memorial garden, Iris farm, river had water in it. Museum next to the park and a bistro which wasn't open on Sunday. There is a lovely craft shop in Narromine which was even open on Sunday run by volunteers and sells lovely stuff.

Very nice, large, well-maintained park next to the Bogan River with drive-through sites near the amenities block plus a large grassed area close to the river with powered and non-powered sites. These sites were popular but they have quite a hike to the amenities block. Lots of trees throughout the park. The owners have built many of the great looking cabins and they have also built an entertainment area which is really worth seeing, with lots of nice touches. The Bogan River is great for kayaking/canoeing and/or fishing. En-suite sites available. There is a very good camp kitchen included in the amenities block building with good cooking facilities. Very friendly staff. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($132 2A per week, powered, off-peak season). Colour City Caravan Park, Orange
From Bathurst turn into McLachlan Street and follow to end, (Margaret St), turn left and entry is 250m on right, next to showground. This park is part of the showgrounds and overlooks the main arena. It is not easy to find if you don't know your way around Orange. A railway line runs through the town and there are only a few roads that cross the railway, but once you get into McLachlan head right to the end and away from the town centre, turn left into Margaret and the park is on the right. If you come in on the Northern Distributor from Dubbo turn right into Leeds Parade and you will see it on the left. Ph: 02 6362 7254. Dogs on leash.
Manager's name is Ken Pratt. This is a pleasant little park with an exceptionally friendly management, nothing was too hard. After booking in, Ken showed us around the park, explained in great detail all the facilities, showed us which sites were available and told us that once we had set up to go and see him whereupon he gave us plenty of tourism advice. There are supposed to be 109 sites of which 90 are tourist (50 powered, 40 unpowered). Most of the sites are taken up with permanents and there are only approx 20 available for tourists. Would stay again. Very friendly staff, no complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, very good value for money ($17 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, disabled facilities, van parking. Quiet, open and roomy, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, too many permanents. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: It is dog friendly, and is nicer than the other caravan park in Orange. Quite a roomy park, and they were building new concrete sites and improving the park when we were there.
Dislikes: The drive through site, I wouldn't call it drive through, you needed to negotiate a slope to get out of the site and around another van. But the only way into the sites is to drive into them. Ended up getting out ok, but glad not many vans where there, would be hard in peak time.
Parking: Parking inside the caravan park.

This is basic park with its best feature being the ablutions block. It is an old facility but inside very well maintained. Good showers with plenty of hooks and shelves for the clothes and knick knacks. You need a key and only one is issued - so visits to the toilet and shower need to be planned. The grounds are very basic with most sites not particularly level. At $22 2A per night it is probably about 2 bucks too dear. There is a dump point available and several ensuite sites that had level concrete aprons - and well located. The Manager was reasonably friendly but other patrons were not similarly impressed. Worth an overnight stay or two. Parkes has an Elvis Festival in January that would be worth a visit - you probably need to book well ahead.

Park centrally situated. Reasonable value for money at $22 per night. Pet friendly. Amenities very modern but lack of soap and towels - not acceptable in this day and age. Inadequate water points. Inadequate sullage disposal. Neighbours sullage ran underneath our van which was on a slope. Notable was the immaculate council owned sports oval next door to the park, irrigated and green, compared with the caravan park which was in a sea of dust/mud. The inference being that the council thinks more of its residents than it does of its visitors. Ok for a couple of days.

Likes: Great manager, loads of space, and excellent overnight location while visiting a relatively pointless little satellite of Broken Hill. Lots of birds, roos, and other local native fauna. A wonderful location.
Dislikes: No camp kitchen, inadequate lighting to most areas of the park.
Local Information: Silverton is a fairly pointless location to visit. Do not do the "Heritage Trail" walk without a lot of drinking water - the trail, touted to be a two hour casual stroll, is more like a three hour fast march, and really doesn't give you a great deal of "heritage" with the first few kms taking you out of town past some ill-signposted piles of rubble supposedly the remains of original mining huts, and thence out towards the desert up a hill to Silverton lookout - to get stunning views of yet larger hills that you need to climb to continue the trail. Do it in reverse, do the Art Galleries (admission price is a gold coin minimum) and stop when you get to the Silverton Pub - that's the better part of the trip done, and no pointless hill climbing.
Roads: From Broken hill it's about 35kms on a 100kph road, with 39 dips in the road on the way out, so don't get tempted to go faster or you will get damaged.

This park is also a recreation park for tourists and locals with well spread out camping spots. Suitable for vans with only a few powered sites, there are about five good toilet blocks and only one new shower block. It's walking distance to the historic mining town. Managers Peter & Jenny. If you need a cheap, comfortable park with clean amenities then this fits the bill. This is a fairly basic caravan park run by the local shire council. Location is on southern side of town on Junee road, just south of the railway line. Pick your own site and caretaker will collect fees late afternoon or in the morning. Supervision needed for youngsters as there is no fence to the main road (50kph limit so trucks not too noisy). Some road noise, but minor at night - some sites at the back of the park (on the gravel) would be almost 200m from the road and quieter. Suitable for more than one night, but may disappoint if busy. Temora is a surprisingly large town. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($15 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times (2 gents loos, 2 showers, 3 ladies loos and 2 showers, but one has a bath suitable for the kids), are close to most sites, were basic but clean, condition is good. Good water pressure and temperature when we were there but only 7 vans in the park. Adequate number of tourist sites (about 20), spacious, some level sites, mostly on grass, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. No rec room, no playground, no pool. Open and roomy. Clean bbq (free). Basic coin-op laundry. Free electric bbq with lighting, but no shelter. Well maintained park.
Parking: Self-select site and council officer will visit during rounds.

Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting. No playground, no pool. This is a small Council caravan park, there are no resident managers; the residence appears to have been sold. Just pull up, select a site and you will be visited by the ranger to collect payment either that evening or the next morning. The amenities are limited (ablutions block and laundry) but clean when we visited. Apparently with the change in management arrangements, the cleaning is now done by contractors but we are unsure of how frequently - did not appear to be daily. There was plenty of grass when we visited, albeit it appears this is thanks to a long term (6 months) resident who was staying there while working in town - he had been putting sprinklers on various parts of the park with the consequent improvement in grass cover. He confirmed the dust bowl description of the park when he first got there; unfortunately he left Temora while we were there. Park was quiet, a small amount of traffic noise from the Junee road out front, but in reality very few trucks after about 9.00pm. Good management, friendly management. Good value for money. Average amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Average sites, drive-through sites were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry. Quiet park.
Likes: Very relaxed atmosphere.
Local Information: Temora seems to be surviving the drought pretty well, the business centre looks prosperous and it is well laid out and attractive. The aviation museum is not to be missed, several rare WWll planes (2 Spitfires) and at least one that is unique - all in flying condition.
Roads: We came into town from Junee, left on the road to Young - both adequate, sealed, typical rural roads suitable for relaxed caravanning but not if you want to travel at high speed with a van in tow.

Only park in town we arrived just on dusk told to go find a powered site plenty there, but it was full. We did without power first night then moved to power. No playground, adequate ablutions, very transient park filled up every night most gone next morning. While we were there we had 5mm rain all roads were closed so it gets very slippery. We had 3 days there when due to leave, the whole town was out of petrol. Some diesel but not a lot, 4 days before next delivery. This park is fine for a night or two, there are a lot of camp sites close to town but it was too hot & dry to try these, they have toilets & water looked fine. Would stay again if passing through.

Abercrombie Caves Camp Area, Trunkey Creek
The campground is at Abercrombie Caves, in the Abercrombie River National Park, is located 2kms off the Bathurst-Goulburn road. The turn off to the caves is approximately 20 kms south of Trunkey Creek. Ph: 02 6368 8603. No pets allowed.
UPDATED REPORT NEEDED

Manager's name is Barry Cobitt. The 2 kms of road leading down to Abercrombie Caves should be taken slowly and with care due to its windy and narrow nature. I towed a 16ft pop-top down there with out any problems. The campground contains approx 60 unpowered sites. Children under school age stay for free. The kiosk has minimum supplies but contains enough frozen bread and Long Life milk to get you out of trouble, I suggest taking enough stuff for a self sufficient stay.
Added Touches: Open fires are permissible in constructed fire places, you may have to have a good look around for timber to burn.
Local Information: There is plenty to see and do in the area. I intend staying there again and using the campground as a base for doing day tours of the local area. The Tourist information centre at Bathurst is a wealth of information on the local area and is worth dropping in to prior to going to Abercrombie Caves.
Roads: Sealed road all the way from Bathurst to Abercrombie Caves. Both sealed and gravel roads from Goulburn to Abercrombie Caves.

Trunkey Creek Sports Ground and Camping Area, Trunkey Creek
Trunkey Creek is a small village on the road between Goulburn and Bathurst. On the north side of the village, between the park and school. All pets allowed.
This camp area is north of the Abercrombie Caves and is a good alternative for those travelling with dogs. Call in at the hotel and they will give you a key to the power. Toilets and drinking water available. Dogs welcome. Plenty of room to spread out. Cost for powered site for 2 - just $5 per night.
Likes: Village is very friendly, stop at the pub and have a drink. Nice park, with BBQs, next to the camp/sports ground.
Local Information: Beautiful country scenery. Interesting road between Goulburn and Bathurst (some short distances were dirt but well maintained). Great place to stay and just drive to Abercrombie Caves (no dogs) for the day, approx 12 kms away.

Likes: The management were friendly, site was next to amenity, close to town, the sites weren't too bad, bit affected by drought but not too bad, but it is expected in the country towns. Nice big park opposite the caravan park. People in the town are friendly.
Dislikes: Nothing really, being picky, there were alot of burrs around, but all part of the drought.
Added Touches: Each Saturday night, management puts on a BBQ, you provide your own meat and drinks, they cook the meat for you (they ask you how you like it), they provide various salads, and pancakes for desert, you get to meet everyone in the park. Very nice idea.
Local Information: There isn't alot to see in Warren, nice meal at the pub good value for money. There is the Macquarie River with some water in it. A weir just out of town, with a little sandy beach (I couldn't find it though).
Roads: Road is good into town, 19 km off the main highway, but still a good road. A few road trains on both roads, so towing a van we took it a bit easy, wide enough road for both though.

Manager's name is Chris & Debby George. We didn't intend to stay at this park initially, but were so taken with the setting we decided to spend a couple of nights. A delightful council owned park situated at the Wellington Caves and adjacent to the golf course and Japanese Gardens. A cafe and restaurant are part of the complex. Head for Wellington Caves - park is alongside and clearly marked. The one redeeming feature about this park is it's proximity to the Wellington Caves complex - a not to be missed tourist attraction. As for the park itself the less said about it the better. Unlevel sites in a sea of mud. Filthy amenities - no soap or paper towels in the men's toilet. Laundry unacceptable - one old and filthy washing machine in very poor condition and one suspect dryer. Totally inadequate for the size of park. Friendly welcome, very open/large park with flat sites mostly drive through. A few shady spots but devoid of grass - very dry being the middle of summer. Good showers/ toilets clean and tidy. Close to the clubs and main street - both walking distance. Suitable for an overnighter (probably most people) or a couple of days if you want a break to walk the street. Everything you need for a basic short stay. Reasonable value at $20 a night for two. I would stay overnight again.

Extra trees have been planted to add to the current number of shady sites. Friendly staff. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($18 2A C per night powered). Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, but not enough shade. Free bbq. A well maintained park.
Likes: Bathroom and toilet rooms well presented and clean.
Local Information: The BP has a car wash that is large enough to take vans.

Opal Pioneer Caravan and Camping Tourist Park, White Cliffs
Follow signs. Ph: 08 8091 6688. Dogs on leash.
Manager's name is Bill Watson. The most beautiful sunsets at night and check out the stars during the night. We'll go back for a week or so next year to do some more fossicking. Friendly staff. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($15 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, disabled facilities. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Good basic park in outback NSW. It was very clean, even though the sites were a bit dusty. One amenities block was quite new and had big tiled showers/toilets. The other amenities block was an Atco hut type, but very clean.
Parking: Just grab a site and the caretaker will collect the fees at night.
Added Touches: Some sites had fire pits for open fires. Check with the locals if anything is happening on the weekends. When we were there they had a BBQ to raise money for the Flying Doctors.
Local Information: White Cliffs is unique, an opal town right in the middle of nowhere. You can go fossicking for opal close to town. The opal shops have a great range of opals and jewellery at very reasonable prices. We found kangaroos in the main street during the afternoon. Fuel is a little dearer, but not a rip-off.
Roads: Excellent bitumen road all the way from Wilcannia to White Cliffs.

Likes: Quite at night.
Parking: Pick your own site and fees will be collected later by caretaker. If not there is an honesty box.
Local Information: Opals, opals and more opals.

White Cliffs Council Caravan Park, White Cliffs
Very basic park. Can't drink the tap water and you pay $1 for a shower, but because the town was so unique, we really enjoyed our stay. Amenities were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower. No bbqs. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: In White Cliffs - it would be a pity to have to travel in from Wilcannia so we were very grateful to have even this basic facility.
Local Information: Fascinating town, well worth the visit

Dogs on leash. The sign at the office asks you to take a spot and pay later or place in the honesty box. Very friendly manager happy to help. Very dry caravan park, lots of dirt and no grass. Bathroom facilities owned by council and open to the public through a separate entrance. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was lower than expected, good value for money. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Peaceful, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free). Basic playground. Pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for overnighter, well maintained park.
Likes: The staff were very friendly and willing to come around and have a chat and explain the town and attractions to us.
Dislikes: Not much shade. The pool wasn't open in the hot dry conditions.
Local Information: We were there on the last day of the season before summer and the town invited us to the farewell luncheon at the club. Everyone introduced themselves. This is the only place we have been to in Australia where there are still flies when it is windy and they fly backwards to keep the dirt out of their eyes. Get in early to buy necessities at the only general store, as it is 300 km's to the nearest shops at Broken Hill. Great place and community spirit. Enjoyed by all.
Roads: Dirt roads and tracks, in reasonable quality.

Stayed 1 day, $15.00 per night powered site. Note on the door stated "choose a site and pay later if the office is open, or put money in the Honesty Box". On this occasion the Park Ranger came to collect the fees late in the evening (when it was cooler). It was 43oC the day we stayed and a Sunday, so nothing was open except the General Store. The pub did not open until 4.00pm. This park is a very basic Council park with long level concrete slabs and gravel, and no shade as all the trees are small and struggling. The ablutions block was a set of convertible buildings, very basic with reasonable cleanliness, but because of the windy conditions, everything was covered in dust. This was not surprising considering there was not a blade of grass in the park and it was very hot and very windy with tons of feral flys. But this is a mining town, also in the middle of drought. Too hot and windy to cook so we had an acceptable schnitzel meal at the general store and were not charged corkage. The tourist season commences at White Cliffs in April so many of the opal shops were closed when we visited. But a visit is worthwhile. Caravan Park was basic but ok and we would return again.

Wyangala Waters Park, Wyangala Waters State Park
Stayed 3 days $15.15 p/n, powered site. We, together with another family, had previously stayed in the cottages in November 2005 for one week ($515.00 per cottage per week) and vowed never to stay in them again because of the dreadful condition they were in. Windows rattled in the high wind, bedroom door handles came off in your hand, front door could not be locked, tiles lifted in the bathrooms, kitchen facilities very tired etc. Average cleanliness. On this occasion we decided to take our caravan instead and try out the tourist facilities. Reception handed us a map and allocated a site for us, but as it was off-peak were told we could park anywhere within the area specified on the map, and give them the site number. The best for our sized van was site 22, but we still had problems. Site slabs are old, cracked, and built high so it can be quite difficult to manoeuvre onto the site. We scraped the bottom of our van, but smaller vans would find it a lot easier. Site had little shade, as did most others due to trees struggling with the drought. The amenities block closest to us was in desperate need of total refurbishment, but was reasonably clean. The laundry had 3 washers and 2 dryers which were reasonably clean except for the bugs. Other amenities blocks had been closed because of disrepair. I asked the rangers why this park was so run-down and was told it was because of the lack of funding. No money had been allocated by National Parks for some years, and the park had been allowed to deteriorate. They had a new manager and he was trying his best to upgrade the park. I did not realise how desperate the situation was until I saw a National Parks van being pushed down the hill so that it could start. I feel great sympathy for the employees who did their best. It is a pity that this park has been allowed to deteriorate to such a state, as it is a wonderfully picturesque area. This park needs a drastic injection of funds and a massive overhaul to all its facilities to bring it up to scratch.

Good Hope Tourist Resort, Yass
From Yass Town take Grand Junction Road (off Yass Valley Way - at eastern end of town), this road will turn into Wee Jasper Road, right into Good Hope Road. Ph: 02 6227 1234. Pets at manager's discretion.
Manager's name is Liz or Don Richardson. Was noisy the weekend we were there - kids on motorbikes, otherwise gorgeous scenery & could be very peaceful. Good fishing. Older amenities block charge for showers, OK condition and clean (x3 toilets x1 shower). Newer amenities block - much nicer & showers were free, regularly cleaned (x3 toilets, x3 showers). Did not inspect another amenity block. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, good value for money ($25 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, extra charge for shower, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, very few concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites. Basic laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (past noon), secure entry. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, a few permanents. Dirty wood bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Likes: Gorgeous scenery to Burrinjuck Dam. Tennis court. Lovely walks, beautiful scenery - huge property. Family friendly. Marine shop and fishing licenses available for sale. Many trees for shade. We could arrive early (before midday) and leave late (after midday) & did not have to pay more.
Dislikes: Weekend we were there, there were many kids (dozen or more) on motorcross bikes - was noisy. They were well supervised, but spoilt the peacefulness somewhat. The tap at our site did not work.
Parking: No.
Added Touches: Owners held free bonfire with pumpkin soup on June long weekend (said they do this every year). Allow open fires when safe. Many fish cleaning tables (with water) dotted around the park.
Local Information: Yass town 15 minute drive away.
Roads: road good, no shoulders, don't have to leave bitumen to pass or overtake.

An older park in need of some TLC. Amenities are old but clean. Management is casual in approach. Council owned park that is showing signs of lack of investment for some time. Sites are mainly drive thru and are tight and when the park is busy awnings could not be used. Sites are uneven front to back. Suitable for an overnighter. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night powered).

Fairly small park with fairly small sites. Although there were 2 amenities blocks, they could do with a good 'spring clean', preferably sometime before spring! The grounds are similarly a little tired with a fair amount of small rubbish such as lolly wraps etc, particularly around the office area. Average staff friendliness. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($18 2A powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to all sites, were dirty, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room. Quiet. Dogs allowed on leash. Clean UC gas bbq. Basic playground, no pool.
Likes: convenient for off the Hume Highway overnighter.
Dislikes: Male toilets/showers need a good scrub for the walls and tiles, spider webs could be removed and the paper towels in one block were empty for two days during our stay. Also, office area looked like a slum.

Young Tourist Park, Young
On the Olympic Highway, coming from Cowra, and entering Young, the park entry is on the left-hand side, immediately after a right turn. Coming south from Cootamundra, turn right at the first roundabout and then left into Zouch Street. The park is on the right after crossing the railway bridge via a rough bit of road next to a service station. It is easy to miss the entrance roadway – the turn is before the garage on left. All is not lost, simply turn left after the garage, and do a complete square back. Entrance roadway is not good (only a matter of 50 metres – take it slowly). Ph: 02 6382 2190.

Manager's name is Len Symington. A Council owned park which sorely needs a lot of tidying up, especially around the perimeter and the grass is long overdue for a cut. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($24 2A per night powered). Stayed 2 days $19.80 p/n, powered site. We came here because of previous excellent reports, and we were not disappointed. Reception was very helpful and we were shown to our site and facilities explained. Sites are located around an oval road with all facilities in the centre. This park is spotless throughout, including ablutions block, camp kitchen and bbq's. Employees could be seen working around the park. Our site was a level slab with some shade and grass, which was kept green with bore water. With the temperature reaching 40oc the swimming pool was spotlessly welcoming and refreshing. As we had travelled outside peak season there were lots of spots available. We would definitely stay again as it is suitable for any length of stay. As one previous reviewer noted "a little gem".
