Ashford is located 45 km N of Inverell. The caravan park is in Bukkalla Street at the rear of the swimming pool. Close to Macintyre Falls, Limestone Caves and Pindari Dam. Ph: 02 6725 2468. Pets allowed.

Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Little Gem Van Park, Bellata
Click here for park details on My Park List
Bellata is a small hamlet on the Newell Hwy between Moree and Narrabri. Park is a few hundred meters east of the highway. Belah St. Ph: 02 6793 7592. Small pets only allowed.

We have stayed before and found it acceptable value for money for an overnight stay. However, they now want $20 per night for any van fitted with an air conditioner, whether is it used or not. Grossly overpriced for what is an old and neglected park. The laundry is filthy and the amenities are open to the elements around the top of the walls and consequently full of insects from shortly after dusk in the evening. We've used the park on previous trips but this is the last time and we will bypass in the future.

Riverside Caravan Park, Bingara
Click here for park details on My Park List
About 1 km N of PO adjacent to the hospital and swimming pool on the road to Copeton Dam. Travelling north, turn right at sign after first section of bridge over Gwydir River. Ph: 02 6724 1209. Dogs on leash.

Local Information: Bingara is a great area for fossickers with lots of pretty drives and interesting sights. RSL club has great meals, good golf course, horse riding and canoeing down river, clean town.

The park is owned by Bingara Shire Council and it's located near the Gwyder River. It is in a quite location. The manager was a very friendly hard working guy. The toilets and showers were clean and smelt nice. We spent Christmas there last year and are thinking of going back this year. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($18 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Disabled facilities, van parking, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The manager and the price
Parking: There is a special parking bay for when you book in
Local Information: Bingara is a small quite NSW town. The park is near the outskirts of the town. It would be a long walk into town. But only a five minute drive.
Roads: excellent roads.

Boggabri Caravan Park, Boggabri
Click here for park details on My Park List
Laidlaw Street, next to the council swimming pool which is on the corner of Caxton & Laidlaw Streets. 104 Laidlaw Street is the managers home a couple of blocks away from the caravan park. Ph: 02 6743 4555. All pets allowed.

Boggabri is a struggling town on the Kamilaroi Hwy roughly midway between Gunnedah and Narrabri. The town is well serviced with all the basic shops i.e. supermarket, hardware, service stations, takeaway, cafe, tearooms, pubs & clubs. The townsfolk we spoke with wish there was a bakery to complete their town. The park is a couple of blocks away from the highway so road noise was not a problem. A lot of coal trains pass through the town each day/night but were not noticeable from the park. The park has twelve sites all with ensuites next to level concrete slabs that are cracking. When we arrived, ten sites we occupied by permanents, probably mine workers who were not noticeable. There was space for a couple of self contained units or tents/camper trailers. There was a communal laundry, free washing machines and dryer, but no communal toilet/shower for the campers/camper trailers. The ensuites were adequate for ones needs, each with its own hot water system which provided excellent showers. However as the park manager is off site and part time, cleaning of the ensuite we had left a bit to be desired. It was not really off putting it just needed a good clean however for some reason the ensuite always smelt "nice". Friendly staff, reasonable value for money ($19 2A per night, ensuite), water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. No bbqs, no playground. Suitable for few days.
Likes: It suited us for a couple of days.
Dislikes: The fact that only two of twelve sites were available is not encouraging tourist dollars to the struggling town.
Roads: The road from Mullaley (Oxley Hwy) to Boggabri is dead flat through great flood plain farming land. Despite what the Hema maps show the section S of Boggabri is excellent tarred road and about 10km N of Mullaley is the same. The mid section is good dirt road with approximately 50% of this currently being worked on to seal under Federal Government Grants as part of the Wellington to Narrabri Hwy (Alternative to the Newell Hwy )

Boomi Caravan Park and Artesian Spa, Boomi
Click here for park details on My Park List
Bishop St. The park and swimming centre are clearly visible as you enter the village. You book in at the Co-op General Store, next to the pool. Ph: 02 6753 5336. Pets allowed.

This place is a little gem. Boomi is about 90kms NW of Moree or 80ks W of Goondiwindi on bitumen roads. In an effort to keep their community alive the locals formed a co-operative to build and run a general store and caravan park/spa complex. Most of the work is done by friendly volunteers. The caravan park accommodates about 12 vans on powered sites with water and there are a few other sites without water. The separate caravan park amenities block is new and well designed. There is a free BBQ area. We paid $15 a night for a site and $4 per day per person for unrestricted entry to the pool and spa complex. The artesian spa pool is excellent and very clean and well managed. There is no dump point. The shop sells basics and light meals and diesel fuel is available. The pub provides good meals and is a great social centre for locals and travellers. This little community is really having a go and the whole atmosphere is cheerful and welcoming. It would be easy to stay for a week and get one night free. We intend to return.

Kidmans Camp Van and Cabin Park, Bourke
Click here for park details on My Park List
Kidman Way, 8 km N of Bourke, on the Bourke to Cunnamulla road. On the right after driving through North Bourke from Bourke across the bridge, opposite the landing strip. This park won't taking bookings for powered sites. Ph: 02 6872 1612. No pets allowed.
Local Information: 5min walk to the Darling River for a ride on the paddleboat Jandra. Excellent town tour that is a must. Pick up at the caravan park.

Bourke in early January? Probably not peak season, noting there were very few others at the resort, but even with the 39 degree temps the facilities in this park made it quite manageable for us non-A/C'd types. We choose an annex slab, however there were plenty of different types of sites, grassed and drive through, to choose from. There was shade to quite a few sites, with some of the trees and gardens forming privacy screening for the site. The beautiful gardens (magnificent roses in Bourke, who knew), grassy surrounds and two beaut clean pools made this a resort experience for us. We thought it was good value for money at $30 per night. The amenities were clean and cool (though warning, frogs reside in shower drains), with hot water certainly not an issue during our stay. Noting the amount of sites, we believe the number of amenities would not cope well during peak periods though. Good clean camp kitchen facilities. The Darling River was in flood during our visit, and had been for quite some time, so there was mossies, mossies and more mossies during our stay. Coils and repellent were required day and night but kept them sufficiently at bay. The highway between Brewarrina and Bourke had been closed for several weeks, so it was a long trip around for us coming up through Nyngan but the road was pretty good. We found the lady at check-in (who we think was one of the owners) very friendly in the dry, laconic outback style. She advised that the PS Jandra wasn't running due to the flooded river, and estimated it would be at least another 4 weeks until it could. She invited us back another time to do the river cruise, and advised that the Bowls courtesy bus would pick up and deliver should we require a night in town. We didn't, but the offer was there. The police patrolled the park regularly day and night, however we saw or felt no threat whatsoever, so maybe this is why? Bourke town didn't offer up too much to us , but was really tidy and well maintained. A lot of the shops seemed to be closed for a summer break, but the large IGA supermarket was good. Very helpful staff at the NRMA office should you need assistance or road updates. It was interesting to visit the site of the old port, especially with the river at such a high level.

Friendly staff. Good value for money ($20 1A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, car wash, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean UC bbq. Clean pool. Suitable for few days.

When we booked in for two nights, the reception was very poor. We felt like second rate citizens. The receptionist looked at us as to say, "Not another lot of tourists". It does not cost anyone to smile. There was no welcome. Unfriendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($30.00 2A per night, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, basic camp kitchen, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Likes: Plenty of walk areas. Good Photography. Lots of bird life. Lots of history around the park.
Dislikes: Too many ants. We were told at North Bourke Tourist Information Centre that our vans would look over the Darling River. What a disappointment this was to find that we had to walk to find it.
Added Touches: Wednesday & Friday night there is a poet and song night followed with steaks, snags, salads & billy tea for $20. This money goes to the Bourke Hospital Charity Fund. There is a bus that comes out to Kidman Camp to take travellers into the Bowling Club for tea.
Local Information: Great Bakery. Bourke Historic Cemetery is a resting place for the famous Fred Hollows who did so much for the community to allow people to have their sight again. Although he was born in NZ, Fred had an affinity for the local community.
Roads: We travelled on the Kidman Way Road from Wilcannia. Very bumpy in places and nowhere to pull over for a cuppa and change of drivers.

A good park, well sited for overnighters but also good for a long stay as there is plenty to see and do in Bourke. The park is out of town on the north side but close to the river and paddle steamer. The welcome was ordinary, gave us the impression that it was all a bit too hard to be nice. Flat sites, plenty of room, grassed and lots of shade options. Choose your own site, first in best dressed. Amenities are large and good showers. Some repairs are in progress and the area is looking its age but still very adequate. Nice camp kitchen. Price at $30 a night for two on a powered site probably a couple of bucks over our expectation of service and facilities - but we will stay again. Convenient and not much truck noise from the highway.

Mitchell Caravan Park, Bourke

Go east along Mitchell Street from the town centre, past turnoff to North Bourke & Cunnamulla; the park is a further 500 meters on the left, about 1 km from town centre. Eastern end of town on Brewarrina Road (Kamilaroi Hwy). Ph: 02 6872 2791. Dogs on leash.
Local Information: We were advised by Manager to take the town tour. We had no idea what Bourke had to offer. First rate & professional. Good self drive "Mud Map" Tours also. Good meals at Bowling Club & Bakery.

Only 2 parks in Bourke and this was the only one that would take dogs. Apparently same people own both parks. Very disappointed and poor value for money ($26 2A). Do not park on eastern boundary as many B doubles go past this fence quite regularly. Only 2 showers/toilets for entire park, which was clearly not enough. Urinal wasn't working. Dividing wall in men's shower was broken/very loose. If you fell against it, you'd have a neighbour immediately. However - good water pressure in area. Nicely lawned area in centre of park. No pool. Well shaded sites and vans have good spaces between them. Only good for an overnight stay. Very friendly staff.

Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. $26 2A, powered. We paid $22 because of price quoted when original phone enquiry made. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is bad, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, basic camp kitchen. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. UC gas bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Roomy sites. Shaded areas. Peaceful with not too much traffic noise from main highway.
Dislikes: The amenities block was rather dated. I ran out of hot water. There was water leaking from a tap on the roof of the amenities block which sprayed water over doorway and was like that for the two days we stayed at the park
Local Information: I had looked forward to visiting Bourke. Bit disappointed about the place. The Darling was a dirty muddy ditch which had a bad smell. All the bottle shops were caged. There were steel shutters on all of the shop fronts. Public housing in some of the side streets had been badly trashed or burnt to the ground. Large contingent of police visible in town. After dark - town was deserted. We were warned to stay in the park after dark. We had two nights in Bourke. Highly unlikely that we'll stay here again.

A basic park, but management were very helpful in allowing us some flexibility with our big 5th wheeler and tow vehicle parking. Most sites are gravel but that was helpful when it poured with rain, we'd never have got out of a grass site. There's also bushes between most sites affording some privacy. The amenities block was fine whenever Adrian used it, I tend to use our onboard ones. We were there for three weeks as I had commitments with the local schools, and the staff were always helpful and price very reasonable (can't find the receipts now though). A lot more to see in Bourke than you might think, lots of history here. We were sad not to be able to do the paddle steamer on the Darling (it was too wet; yep, for a boat, the river was too high for it to fit under overhead wires), but the Back O'Bourke Centre was excellent (and they made it a 2-day pass) and lunch in the cafe there was lovely though not the cheapest. Also good to find out more about Fred Hollows' amazing work there and to visit his grave. Can thoroughly recommend the Bowling Club for good Chinese and do try the Back of Bourke lamb pies in the bakery (everything else was good there too). And for the mechanically minded, don't miss the noon firing up of the old Crossley engine down by the wharf. We had a bit of trouble towards the end of our stay with someone trying to break into the van at night, management were aware and trying to deal with it (eg sweeping the gravel at night so any tracks would be fresh for police to trace), as were local police, seems a known thief had just got out of jail and was keen to go back. However, we always lock up at night when we go to bed, and they weren't interested in the usual chairs etc that were left outside. So not a real big deal. The dump point in town is outside the visitor's centre, a bit tricky for us to back into to get our tank on the correct side, but not impossible, the main road outside is very wide and surprisingly quiet, allowing room to manoeuvre. Quite a good IGA in town too and very friendly staff there.

Manager's name is Noel Woo. This could be an excellent park but is spoilt through lack of TLC. It is situated in a lovely parkland setting but needs to be tidied up, there was a lot of dead branches left lying on the ground and where guests had accidently dropped rubbish this had not been picked up. The amenities are clean but again in need of updating as do the sites. There are three bbqs scattered around the park, there is no lighting but have basic seating, they are old and locked and if you want to use one you have to get a key from the management. There is an area for campfires but there is a sign up saying no fires. For what is available in the park $26 per night is not good value. Although the park is close to the Newell Highway there was very little traffic noise. Friendly staff. Poor value for money ($26 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, no sites have annex slabs, some sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open and roomy, not enough shade, a few permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a few days.
Parking: Outside reception
Local Information: A visit to the information bureau to get details on Pilliga Pottery, Sandstone Caves, Salt Caves, Sculptures in the Bush in the Pilliga Forest and Nature Reserve, and the Warrumbungle National Park is a must.

Manager's name is Noel Wu. There had been heavy rain in the months preceding our visit and the place had a fair bit of mud around some of the sites. Very helpful owner, a nice mix of grass and trees in what is a 40 year old park - a bit rundown but we enjoyed our stay because of the spacious sites and the quiet atmosphere. Choose a site towards the rear if you can, to be away from the highway - we had no trouble with noise. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($26 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, not all powered sites have sullage. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.

Dislikes: the mud caused by prolonged wet weather

Castlereagh Hwy, 1 km S of town. Ph: 02 6822 1926. Pets at managers dicretion.

Manager's name is Jenny and Ray. We arrived late November intending to stay 2-3 days, the rains began as we were setting up so due to the floods and waiting for roads to be fixed, we stayed over 2 months. Jenny and Ray are new managers who intend to make improvements, but they don't have limitless funds so it won't happen overnight. Have to agree with previous report that the area around the office is a bit of a mess, and some of the onsite vans are old and tired; but that honestly didn't bother us in the long run. The amenities block is old and tired too, but with our own facilities onboard, we don't use them that often and they were always clean. The nonslip mats in the shower and drying off area were appreciated, as was the shower curtain and the seat. We'd rather those features than something sparkling new, too small for big people, and unsafe because it's slippery. The bench seat outside the laundry was good, could relax and wait for your wash to finish if you didn't want to go back to your van. At $22 per night powered site and stay for 6 nights and get the 7th free ($132 per week), it was great value. And we used the power hard (it was 45C and similar for a week in January), but no extra money was wanted. They are also very pet friendly, and I had to persuade Adrian not to adopt a cute and friendly kitten that kept following him home from the amenities block; we already have 2 as well as our dog. There's very little road noise (and we were near the front of the park), there are birds but we found the noisiest were the cicadas. The park is grassy and shady, with the trees trimmed high enough for us to fit under. The sites were very roomy, especially towards the front of the park and easy to manoeuvre our 33' 5th wheeler into. The only tricky bit was getting from our site to the dump point just before we left (easy for a smaller vehicle) but we managed that with a few back and fills of reversing. Ray was more than happy to discuss that ahead of time with Adrian and together they worked out the best plan. In fact Jenny and Ray's hospitality really made the stay, for as we were there over Christmas they put on a free Christmas evening BBQ - tons of meat, salads, bread, home-made pudding and custard, punch - the works. It was lovely and very much appreciated. They still have a farm out near Pilliga, but have friends who care-take when they are out at the farm and they are very friendly too. We actually saw the river (often it's only underground) - it got to 5.5m high and still didn't overtop the bank at the park, so while all around the outside of town was inundated, roads cut etc. we were quite safe. We were on alert to be evacuated one day but didn't have to. Coonamble itself is very friendly and really, a very pleasant place to be in for 10 weeks. We felt like locals by the end. We found the best formal meals in town were at the RSL bistro, but the Shell servo walking distance from the caravan park did awesome burgers, crumbed lamb cutlets and chips to go. And I can recommend Brendan and Jessica in the Fusion hair salon in the centre of town, they did a great colour and cut (and I am fussy!) because they were willing to listen to how I wanted it done. If you should need a chiropractor, Kylie from Dubbo visits one Tuesday a month, and is excellent. Jenny and Ray put us onto her, and the caretakers see her also, so have the details. Great service for a small town. The vets in town were also very helpful and prompt at getting in special food for our dog. Thanks Coonamble!

This park is in dire need of a new manager. The surrounds & site area is a delight with large well grassed sites, shade as needed from the trees & nobody is crowded to their neighbours. Whilst the park is on the highway there is only the occasional noise from road trains passing thru otherwise the loudest noise is the birds in the trees. But, the area around the office/reception is a dump with old broken down cars, bus, & rubbish; the toilet block beside this mess is good for only one thing - to be demolished. It's old, is in poor condition & totally inadequate for the number of travellers visiting. Generally the rear of the park is a mess whilst the front is really good. Unfriendly staff. Reasonable value for money ($20 2A per night, shoulder season). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). The reserve is 17 kms from Inverell, 10 kms of which is gravel road suitable for all caravans. Ph: 02 6723 0250. No pets allowed.

Sign states not dogs but we saw dogs. Our visit was following some decent rains in this area and consequently Copeton Dam is no longer a waterless wasteland, at around 60% full the lake is really something to see. Not only has the water returned but so has the wildlife. We saw mobs of 'roos including the elusive Wallaroo (m.robustus) a member of the kangaroo family distinctive by the dark brown to black skin and 'manly' physic. Of course the big attraction to this location is the fee; $10 per night with power. Good on the Inverell Shire Council, owners and operators. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($10 2A, peak season). because of No peak/off peak ripping off in this park. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Poor laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, kiosk, no wireless internet available, mobile wireless not available. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean UC wood bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. No playground, no pool. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: The bush setting, the ability to have an old fashioned campfire and the site fee.
Dislikes: Considering the bush setting there was little about this park that we disliked.
Local Information: During our stay at Copeton Dam we spent quite a lot of money in nearby Inverell and this is probably why the Inverell Shire Council has provided and maintained cheap powered caravan sites - something other councils should consider. Inverell is large enough to have a Big W, the tourist information office is very well supported.
Roads: The campground at Copeton Dam is 17Km from Inverell, about 10Km of this is good condition gravel. Note, this campground should not be confused with another, much more expensive NSW Government caravan park on the other side of the lake.

In bush setting so best off with high clearance vehicle to back into sites. Best to bring own firewood. 1 small washtub - no shop. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Sites are well back from the road & the location has everyone slowing down to enter the town plus the site area is quite elevated & tiered up the hill. There is a German cafe down at the front which is hugely popular with the locals & very handy if you want a night without cooking. Grounds are clean & well maintained with lots of space between sites; toilet block is spotless & right in the centre of the park. We booked 1 night only but ended up staying 3. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($25 2A per night, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park.

A good basic park. The sites are level on tiers up the side of a hill overlooking the entrance. The amenities were clean and the cubicles were large compared to many others. The traffic noise of a night was fairly subdued. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($22 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Optus, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: The sites were elevated and about 200mtrs away from the highway.
Local Information: Enjoyed some time looking through the Beardies Museum. Plenty of memorabilia. Also the number of parks, to walk along Rocky Ponds Creek. And don't forget the Standing Stones.
Roads: The New England Hwy was in pretty good condition.

Three Waters High Country Holidays, Glen Innes
http://www.threewatersholidays.com.au/default.html
15 km N of Glen Innes via the Emmaville Rd. Head N out of Glen Innes on the on the Gwydir Hwy a bit over a km, right onto the Airport/Emmaville Road, about 5 or so kms turn off onto well sign-posted Bullock Mountain Road, a gravel road will take you 10 km to Three Waters. Powered sites. Ph: 02 6732 4863. Pets allowed.

Manager's name is Steve Langley. This could be called a caravan park, a farm stay or a Dude Range. It's nestled in the high country of the Northern Highlands some 15 kms N of Glen Innes in the northern end of the NSW New England District. Three Waters is easy to find, the road has some corrugations and a couple of sharp S bends but, taken easily, will not be a problem. The homestead is just beyond a cattle grid and gate, drive a short distance to where the main camping area is located on one side of a valley, the Reddestone Creek flows along the bottom of the valley, views across the valley are available to the powered caravan sites, the cabins and the many tent sites. The owner, Steve Langley, a horseman of some renown, will greet you and assist with your needs. Central to the camping area is a log cabin 'gunyah', a huge recreation room fully equipped with seating and tables for large groups, posters around the walls tell visitors all about the area and how the naming of Three Waters refers to the frontages of the Reddestone and Furracabad creeks and the Beardy Waters River. It needs to be remembered that this is bush camping, while there is power available to each caravan site (I think six caravans and possibly more could be catered for) ample tank water is available but not for connection to the van sites, (suggest caravan tanks a full prior to arrival) nor are there any concrete annex pads. The showers might be considered primitive, hot water comes via a 'donkey' that needs to be lit some two hours before use, the showers themselves do not have doors, only shower curtains. During our visit we were the only guests there and this was not an issue, might have been different if there had of been a group; this may not suit modest people and for our liking the simple addition of doors would be preferred. There is also no laundry facilities at all. This is a 420ha property and runs many horses, there are many bush walking and 4x4 tracks. Steve will supply a map of the property and share his knowledge of where to go. We did a 4x4 drive down to Beardy Waters River and found some excellent secluded camping spots beside crystal clear waters, the track had several boggy water holes which we were forced to drive off the track to bypass, good ground clearance and a dual range transmission are recommended. During our four day stay we saw many red deer, kangaroos, rabbits and a fox, most of these we saw from our caravan awning looking across the valley late in the afternoon, we would be hard pressed to find a more pleasant spot and one that we will certainly revisit. A large fireplace is situated in front of the gunyah and plenty of firewood is provided. Steve offers horse enthusiasts a lot, he has many and will happily organise horseback activities. Fossicking is also another reason people come here. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($25 2A per night, powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Poor laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, late checkout allowed, book swap available, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 2). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: The owners attitude, very friendly and helpful.
Dislikes: The shower arrangement with no doors.
Added Touches: Bush walking and four wheel driving, contained open fires with plenty of cut wood, fishing and swimming in creek, lots of wildlife.
Roads: 10km of gravel road to enter park, corrugated and could be a problem during times of prolonged rainy periods.

We found the sites too close together. The park manager decided to put overnight drive throughs together so you opened the door of your van and a few steps away was the next van. The off side was only two steps. The park had two amenity blocks. The one at the back of the park was definitely the quieter and less used one. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Like most people, we only stayed a single night. Park is really well set up for that, with the middle sites being drive through and allowing you to have the van on a slab and stay hitched up. Some other sites also have slabs, and some sites are grass and hugely long, would fit even the biggest rigs. Park is neat, well maintained and grassed. Baby bath and child's hip bath provided in both men's and women's amenities. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($24.30 2A per night, powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Decided on this park because of Badger's website comments. In our travels we have adopted our own version of a 'star' rating system for caravan parks, 1 being mediocre and to be avoided, to 5 being excellent, we have stayed in many caravan parks and we have given the Inverell Caravan Park a top rating of 5+ stars. We would also go so far as to say that other caravan park operators could do worse than visit this caravan park and get ideas on just how an establishment of this nature should be run.

This is a small park close to the town. Very friendly welcome. Whilst the facilities are a bit dated they were very clean, handwash provided, mats in the showers and plenty of hot water with fantastic pressure. There are large slabs on most sites which take the van and provide enough slab for the awning area as well. Good sealed roads. Only a small park. The river out the back of the park is not that attractive but it does have a nice walking trail along it. The visitor centre in town is huge and well staffed. We liked the town and stayed a couple of extra days as we enjoyed the wide streets, friendly atmosphere, nice architecture and a fair bit to see and do. This is a basic park but ticks our boxes. No pool or kids playground, but everything the older set needs. The park is located alongside two busy roads into town but because it is lower than the roads the noise is minimal. $28 2A, powered. Sites will accommodate medium to large vans. Basic laundry, basic camp kitchen, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park.
Likes: Huge slabs and friendly helpful management. Easy walk into town.

Lightning Ridge Information
Good Tourist Informatio Office, guided tours worthwhile, interesting characters.
Hot Artesian Baths 2.4 km from town. Free and open 24 hrs day.
Great town for opals. Very good local tours for self drive or with local bus companies, lots of history.
There are some great 1/2 day tours of Lightning Ridge, which I highly recommend, it goes for about 4 hours and went all over Lightning Ridge with a very informative driver. Picks up from the caravan parks. Just seeing the houses that have been built, are amazing out on the various drives. I was there for 3 nights, and there was plenty to see and do.
Go on a 3hr Black Opal Tour first up so you can get a feel for the place and decide what you might want to visit later in more detail. Free hot artesian springs are great. Olympic Pool & Theme Park is fantastic for kids - only normally open from October to Easter. A drive out to the new mining area (rough dirt roads once there but ok in 2WD) encompassing Grawin, Glengarry & Sheepyards well worth it. We stayed four (4) nights but really could have done with a week.
Mining sites, black queen lamp museum, cactus garden.

We cannot rate this park too highly. It was inexpensive, excellent value for money at $22.50 PN (10% discount on the $25 per night rate as we stayed 4 nights). Hosts Deb and Lionel expend a lot of effort and take so much pride in providing a friendly, welcoming atmosphere and they succeed. Grassy sites (no mean feat in dusty Lightning Ridge) with cool communal undercover seating corridor running behind the sites. The amenities have been ingeniously created using corrugated iron, stainless steel sinks, and showers with wooden decking as the dry changing area. Although this configuration may sound hot and basic, they are anything but; they are kept spotlessly clean and add to the charm of the Lightning Ridge experience. There is an afternoon get together in the well appointed, shady and cool camp kitchen and this we found to be a must. Not only do the owners share their experiences and knowledge of Lightning Ridge, there is often the opportunity to meet other locals who drop in and the other caravan park residents. Informative and very congenial. The very friendly and homely atmosphere, combined with very diligent and vigilant owners and other residents, gave us not a care in the world during our stay. We really enjoyed the activities on offer in Lightning Ridge including the town/mine tour (conducted by a real local wag), browsing in the opal shops (no hard sell here, really friendly people willing to advise you all about opals/mining process etc.); outback art galleries including renowned artist John Murray. Everything was within strolling distance, as was the Bowling Club which had excellent chicken parmas. A fantastic place to visit enhanced by the best place we have ever stayed at.

Meals at the bowling club are excellent value for money and they have 2 raffle nights. You can see a lot or do not a lot & still enjoy the area - very laid back.
Roads: There are not many shoulder areas for pulling over on the Castlereagh Hwy coming from the N or south. Roads in are typical of outback NSW - very poorly maintained. The actual road into Lightning Ridge itself is quite bumpy although sealed all the way.

A new park which is still bedding in (literally). It is built at most throughout on up to a metre of black soil covered by a layer of gravel and compacted. Works fine when dry but in wet weather still has a few soft spots underneath as we found when we broke through and were bogged up to the floorboards. Not too great a drama in an otherwise pleasant stay and it did provide an hour of entertainment for those present. What a wonderful surprise it was to find such a beautiful new park in Lightning Ridge. The amenities are something to be seen to be believed. This area is unique in itself and to have such a modern park to stay in was a delight. They have planted out areas and given time will only add to the park. Go and enjoy Lightning Ridge with all the modern comforts. Sites are all extremely large and drive through convenience. Very friendly staff. $28 for powered site. All large drive thru sites. Excellent amenities, even shower screens. Very good camp kitchen and bbq area. No grass of course or pool but can walk to artesian pool which is open 24 hours. Worth doing an organised tour for $30 as visit to a mine costs $20 so for another $10 you get picked up and taken to other areas as well as mine.

This park is well designed and the amenity facilities first class. Some of the best I have seen. For an opal mining town the park was a refreshing find. The welcome was professional and friendly. The price at $28 a night 2A on a powered site reasonable. It is a new park. Open and roomy. Some trees but in the winter you don't look for them. The ground is crushed pebble and some might find it hard to drive a peg into it. But this would be my only very mild critical point. We intended to stay a couple of nights and extended to four. Flat drive through sites. Dump Point. Water, power and sullage all very handy. Lovely open camp kitchen. Fire at the front every night. Well worth a long stay. Had a brief look at the other parks in the town and in my humble opinion - no comparison. This park is a couple of k's out of town - but within walking distance to the hot spring baths. They are perhaps better than those at Moree - very hot, very natural and no chlorine smell. Not too many parks get 4.5 from us - but for such an isolated park, this one is a goody.

Trilby Station, Louth

Head south from Bourke to Louth. Cross the Darling River, turn left on the road to Trilby/Wilcannia; the entrance to Trilby Station is about 30km along the road, well-signposted. The station is about 2km off the road. 5 powered sites, unlimted unpowered sites, plus bunkhouses & cottages. Ph: 02 6874 7420.

Manager's name is Liz Murray. A warm and welcoming place to stay. Only four powered sites near the homestead, with plenty of unpowered sites up to 1km away on the Darling riverbank. Facilities are close to powered sites (but some way from the riverside camping areas) and all in modern shearer's quarters which are available for tourist accommodation (except when shearing is taking place). Beautiful setting and all visitors are able to have the run of the station with the help of mud maps, walking tracks, bird-watching lists, yabby traps and canoes to borrow (all without charge). Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($25 2A per night. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, no sites with annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. Gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Just about everything. Excellent paved fireplace area, plenty of good firewood supplied, and space to use a camp oven. Facilities were spotless, and the owner was always checking to make sure everything was clean and tidy. She was happy to chat, to tell us about the station and its history (excellent information was provided in a folder available to all visitors), to make sure we knew about good yabbying and fishing places, to advise on walking, driving and sightseeing, and even brought us fresh free-range (and free!) eggs from her brood of healthy chooks.
Dislikes: Nothing to dislike. However, with only four powered sites available pre-booking is probably advisable unless you are prepared to rough it by the river.
Added Touches: This is a place where visitors are invited and welcome to make the most of this magnificent property. Most people visiting take a drive to the original Dunlop Station (about 10km) with its old, abandoned machinery and remnants of buildings, and to other areas. There are well-signed and mapped walking tracks and, when we were there, excellent canoeing on a large and clean billabong. For those who are brave and willing to get muddy, canoeing on the Darling is another option. Shearing started when we arrived, so we spent each evening yarning with the shearers around the campfire, and were welcome to go into the shed to watch the process.
Local Information: The Louth Pub is a convivial place, good for a drink or a pub meal. Fishing on the Darling should be good most of the time, but at present, in the aftermath of the floods (and the subsequent fish kill), fish were hard to come by. Yabbying was very productive.
Roads: Roads are all gravel, and most were good and had obviously been re-graded after the summer floods. However, the 150kms of road from Louth to Cobar was rough and extreme care was needed.

Corner of Newell Hwy and Amaroo Drive, 3kms S of PO. On right heading S from town, just before the airport. Ph: 02 6752 2723. Family Parks member. Dogs on leash, 3 days maximum - not in cabins.

Local Information: Good choice of restaurants, pubs and the local services club has good reasonably priced meals, also number of very good coffee lounges. Coles and Woolies supermarkets both have discount petrol servo's. Friendly golf club, good Tourist Info Office, Assefs department store - quality goods and service. A large Tavern is within walking distance of the park offering a range of meals.

We were handed a note that states the site sizes have been increased since May 2011, some sites were very difficult to decide which markings actually referred to the site as the markings obviously applied at different times or are out of date. Talking to regular visitors, the sites are more crammed in during the cooler months when the elderly people are more likely to visit to use the thermal pools. We found the site to be very generous, but that may have been because it was summer. We were also handed a sheet of mobile phone numbers to "call night or day, if any activity disturbs you" which left us wondering about safety, but it was not an issue at all. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Very good value for money ($20 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). We paid $18 because of chain discount. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Manager and owners: Wal and Noeline McDonald. On arrival there was a horrible smell of cooking oil coming from the kiosk. Reception was so busy, we were given two sites to look at - one was occupied, the other was so narrow the awning could not have been opened. We chose one out the back on the back fence. The amenities block looked modern but closer inspection showed that it was inadequate. The change area of the shower was so small everything got wet. There are no rubbish bins, just the two dumpers at the front and the back of the park - both of which were overflowing and smelly. It could be a great park, because it is off the Newell, but relies on the thermal pools trade. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice. Reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night, powered). We paid $27 because of Family Parks member. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, disabled facilities. This is a very large park and obviously over the years the park has been extended. It has a large number of cabins, the caravan sites are scattered everywhere and this tends to make the park very fragmented. It could be a 4 Star park but as most people come for the thermal pools the attitude of the management/staff appears to be to make as much money as possible with very little expenditure and effort. The site sizes are extremely small, the drive-through sites are so small that you can't (and are not permitted to) put out your awning. The thermal pool area is in direct contrast to the rest of the park as it has five large pools of different temperatures, open and roomy and is extremely well designed and kept and is the main reason why tourists come to this park. The pools are open from 7 am to 10 pm. Would not stay again. Unfriendly staff, no complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($30 2A per night, powered, peak season). We paid $27 because of FPA membership. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, very few sites have annexe slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, no permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool, heated, pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The thermal pools are excellent
Dislikes: The dry change area does not stay dry. There are only two commercial rubbish bins for the whole park and they are not close to the majority of the sites, the bins had not been emptied during our stay and the contents was overflowing and lying all around.
Parking: Outside reception
Added Touches: No free added touches
Local Information: Just the usual shops, nothing other than the thermal pools.
Roads: Not good but slightly better than Queensland.

The reception is very abrupt and unhelpful. Unfortunately, the attitude by staff seems to be that people will come for the thermal pools so they don't have to provide a pleasant experience. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting No playground. Clean heated pool is shaded. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Artesian pools, good lighting
Dislikes: No rubbish bins on site (had to walk to park entrance). No water on our site, not very friendly staff just told to go look for self at site. Not good value for money; felt like we were paying for artesian pools rather than caravan site

Park is for those who like the thermal pools and will accept less than normal facilities to enjoy them. Sites are very small and not well defined. Dump point is situated in a very muddy area. Average staff friendliness. Reasonable value for money ($29.50 2A, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some unlevel sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, basic rec room, kiosk, car wash, dump point, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, claustrophobic park, not enough shade. Dirty UC bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean heated pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Likes: Thermal Pools
Dislikes: Not enough bins. Sites very muddy and too close to each other. No shower curtains.

28 Oak St. 1 km east of PO. Located on highway, on eastern side of town heading towards Inverell. Quite easy to find. Follow Newell Hwy (not to town centre) but the bypass. At the set of traffic lights turn left and about 300m turn left into Park. There is a sign on your left (tree) welcoming you with Good Day Mate. Ph: 02 6752 7188 or 1800 331 666. Pets allowed, at manager's discretion, on leash at all times.

Manager's name is Neil & Dianne Mulligan. I read a lot about people complaining that caravan parks have barbed wire fencing around there parks. We have done a lot of travelling throughout Australia and it is necessary in some towns. But look at it another way, this is not different than a closed in fence. We would rather look through an open fence that one that is closed. Lock up your valuable signs are everywhere, not only caravan parks but in shopping centres and in public places. We feel the caravan park owners are looking after your best interests. Very friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($27.00 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, separate bathroom, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, late checkout allowed, disabled facilities, dump point, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. Clean heated pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: We had the pick of sites and chose one on a corner opposite the river area. We were greeted with lots of birds. Mural signs were around the park which were done by Safari Signs. These signs gave a great ambience to the park. Plenty of rubbish bins and were emptied regularly. There is two thermal spa pools, one hot and one cold. We would quite happy to stay there again.
Dislikes: Once again it seems park owners are not aware that Dump Points should be separated on their own away from caravan bays. If not able to move elsewhere then perhaps a barrier around, where nearby campers cannot smell another person's waste.
Parking: Outside booking office.
Added Touches: Fish cleaning table in far end corner of park near river. This has a water tap with it. If you wish to fish on river you will need the key from office to go through the gate.
Local Information: Town centre is about a 1km away. You can walk from caravan park. Unfortunately it was very wet, so we did not sightsee. Woolworths & Coles supermarkets had a good range. A lot of speciality shops and a discounted warehouse chemist. There was only two service station who sold gas for our car. Coles was dearer by 10c a litre.
Roads: We came in from Warwick and roads were patchy in places.

This park is smaller than the other park in Moree and doesn't have the large artesian baths that Gwydir has. But you get a very friendly welcome, your choice of sites, lots of drive thru options and a couple of spa pools, one hot and one cooler under shade cloth. Perhaps not the same attraction as Gwydir but much more personable and friendly. The amenities are large, spacious, clean and seem enough to cater for a full park. There are lots of signs about locking up and I suspect security generally in Moree is a concern. The sites are fairly flat but you might need to jack up one set of wheels on some sites. At $27 a night for two adults, probably a couple of bucks over the going rate, but then the park was busy with overnighters. The park is alongside the river but you need to get a key from the office to access it. The park is surrounded by a barbed wire fence. Most sites were just dirt. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints. Reasonable value for money ($27 2A). Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans. Basic camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Open & roomy park, plenty of shade. Basic playground in average condition. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Friendly welcome, nice spa area
Dislikes: Signs everywhere to lock up.

Manager's name is Colin. We found the caravan park to be a quiet well laid out park. The park owner Colin is a very friendly. First impression of the park and we had a good chat for about 30 min before we signed in but that is what travelling is all about. The park has plenty of drive through sites and it is not a problem to get my 100 series and 18ft van into the site. Water pressure was good. I think it was value for money at $25 for the powered site and the pleasure of Colin's wit. The park amenities are sufficient for the time we were there. They are large "old style" showers and toilets, they are well kept and are clean. Not sure how the amenities will go if the park was full but that was not an issue for us. I would gladly stay here again either for an overnighter or longer.

A great, unpretentious, reasonably priced caravan park in rural NSW. At $25 PN, situated off the Newell Highway so nice and quiet, we thought this was excellent value for money. The park has a good bbq area, some shady sites, no pool (although council pool is right night door) and very good laundry facilities. It also has the great bonus of being located right within strolling distance of the RSL Club, the quaint main streets of Narrabri town and the bowling club. Col, the very friendly manager, was ever present and seemingly ever working/cleaning and presents a very well maintained park with very clean ablutions. The ablution cubicles are huge and even in the 35+ temps that we experienced were a cool oasis and pleasure to frequent. The amount of things to do in the Narrabri area was also a huge surprise to us; we spent a very full 4 days pleasantly occupied. We did day trips that included: 1 day a visit to the free CSIRO Australian Radio Telescope facility that had us previously disinterested folk quite amazed by the size (there are 6 of these monster telescopes that not only revolve around, but 5 of them also move along a 3 km railway track) combined with a trip to Yarrie Lake (take lunch as there are pleasant picnic areas set in the bush around the lake, and you can view the water skiing or take a dip in the chocolate milky depths); 1 day up to Mt Kaputar - NSW's 2nd highest peak. Good roads up, although approx. 5k's are rocky, before reverting again to bitumen. Nice and cool up there, with lots of various bushwalks - easy to yeek! - and absolutely breathtaking lookouts dotted up the road. 1 day trip out to Sawn Rocks, a majestic 'organ pipes' cliff formation that is also quite breathtaking - great new free bbq and toilet facilities in car park and easy 15 minute bitumen footpath to the Rocks. These natural wonders were not known to us until we were given the tourist information in the caravan park and it is a pity that they did not seem to be very well known of or visited. A very good park, excellent value for money located in a seemingly underrated town.

This was a lovely place to stay. We were here for three nights. Rate was discounted to $21 (Seniors) per night 2A on a powered site. Generally the park is of an older style but cosy, friendly and welcoming. It's just up the road from the CBD and a few hundred yards from the RSL. We used the caravan park as our main base to explore the Mt. Kaputar National Park which was simply awesome. We ended up doing the Waa Gorge, Sawn Rocks in the north of the park and then covered Mt. Kaputar in the south. This is an awesome area. The management and staff of the caravan park were friendly. Prices were good. Amenities were adequate, clean, neat and tidy. Water was good and hot and plenty of it. Good dump site. Didn't use the BBQ area or the camp kitchen but there was one and it was clean. Good functional laundry. No pool - but council owned pool next door (closed for the winter). We were happy here and will definitely be staying here again on our next journey north.

Nice grassed park, all sites drive through, with each site in an opposite direction, which makes it very tight to get out if the site next to you has their awning up. Only one amenities block which isn't central, so a long way away if you are at the wrong end of the park. On the 'long side' away from the amenities there are no lights, so it is very dark, the other side had some lights. The amenities are good, with nice large showers although no curtain. Soap, plugs and paper towels provided for the basins. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. $24 2A per night, powered. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Likes: Easy walking distance to town centre, and RSL in other direction. Local public pool next door.
Dislikes: Only one access/exit gate even for pedestrians, so to get to town we had to walk 200m to the front gate, then back again on the public footpath virtually past our van at the end of the park.

This park is obviously undergoing an upgrade and can only get better. The ensuite site was lovely, BBQ area is clean and friendly. Laundry and bathrooms are situated in a new building, not close to all sites but reasonable distance. The entrance to the park is no longer through the access road, but is a direct turn off the highway, with a turning bay for right turning. This is a small park with sites mainly for small-medium vans, but it deserves a look, if in town, as it seems to be the best of a pretty dismal bunch. Motorhomes would fit in the drive through sites and slightly larger vans would be accommodated in the grassed sites. The staff are very friendly and helpful, but no park map was given, only directions to the site using a wall map. The dog run at the riverfront is lovely and the whole ambience is one of a quiet, pleasant, garden retreat. Cost for ensuite site, off peak, was $37.50 with Top Tourist discount. I would stay here happily on our return trips.

On the Newell Hwy but road name changes Cooma Rd in the town area. Dog friendly. Ph: 02 6792 2593. Pets allowed, at manager's discretion, on leash at all times.

Manager's name is Brooke Archer. On arrival we were sort of directed to our site, choose one, nothing else. The 10 sites are approx 3.5 meters in width and around 30 ft long. Too narrow to open out an awning, would be OK for vans up to 16 ft. Ours is 24 ft and someone with not much experience would have trouble getting in to a site. Entry is very narrow between cabins that are surrounding the 10 van sites. The owners should just put some more of the very small cabins in and delete the caravans altogether. When we settled in it was time to check out the laundry etc. Laundry is very basic with unpainted brick walls where things have been altered or fixed. There is a sign on the wall advising the user to notify owners if there was any leaks on to the floor, seems to be a regular thing. The toilets were a mess, did not look like they had been cleaned for a couple of days. The urinal was out of order and had been for a while, there were two toilets with showers either side. The building is of the type used in workers camps, there is 200 ml gap under the walls separating the showers etc so when shower is in use the toilet gets water spray one the floor. There are three BBQ areas which in their heyday and clean would have been nice. There is fat all up the wall behind the main BBQ and the fluorescent light is black with fat etc. As a small motel with self contained units it might be quite ok; as a caravan park it is in my opinion very lacking. When we got a reply to our booking email I was told it is a very quiet park. The single guys that are in the cabins around us are in and out all night, they treat the drive around as a race track. Taxis are no better coming and going until around 11 pm. The one light in the caravan area goes on and off all night so very badly lit area most of the time. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($25 2A per night, powered). No discounts off price at all for 7 days or pensioner. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to all sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, no sites with annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site. Poor laundry, no rec room, basic camp kitchen, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra). Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Dirty UC gas bbq (free), dismal bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Dirty pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Dislikes: 10 sites with 5 taps, no sullage, no drainage from sites. Very deep dip entering and leaving park, not suitable for caravans. They advertise a large park area to exercise dogs, we can't find it. They advertise 16 powered sites and 10 unpowered sites. I believe this is a very old ad they use as that statement is not correct.
Parking: Parking in front of motel
Local Information: Plenty to do in and around Narrabri. Everyone we met in town, info center and attractions were very friendly and helpful. Plenty of off road parking near town center.

New owners from Dec 2011 and they have plans for improvement of any already neat, quiet and well grassed park. Great location away from New England Highway and only a 1km stroll to main street of town, or less in the other direction to the Railway Museum. We enjoyed a 5 day stay at this park and at $28 per night, peak season, we considered it good value for money. We had a concrete annex slab, however there were other sites with nice grass coverage or drive through (with ability to remain hooked up for smaller rigs). There was quite a few sites with shade and although it was very busy during our stay, the park still seemed roomy enough. The only detraction from our rating of this park was the number of amenities - 3 of each in each was not enough during our stay in peak season and combined with seasonal workers also staying in another section of the park but using these amenities, so not enough. There was sometimes a wait for showers, however hot water was still plentiful. Very good tourist information centre in Tenterfield that offered 'mud maps' for drives of various durations to scenic or historic sites around Tenterfield. We can thoroughly recommend the trip out to Bald Rock, where the climb is approximately 2.5km each way - a bit steep in the latter section, however fantastic district views made it worth the while.

Dislikes: The BBQ area, no toilet brushes, no hand wash, no mop for showers, improvements pending
Local Information: In November Visit Cherry Park for the best cherries you will ever taste, Cheese factory at Thulimbah, close by the Castle liqueur and beer distillery and brewery. Excellent Tourist information centre in Tenterfield, nice town to visit
Roads: Road conditions good travelling New England Highway

Manager's name is Barbara. This park was a nice little find. It is a simple country park where the owners are slowly doing upgrades as budgets allow. It was very quiet at night and again park filled nicely by evening. The water quality isn't the best but the amenities although old are spotless. Would definitely stay again. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($23.00 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, drive-through sites, poor water quality, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. A nice quiet little park. Although the amenities are not the most modern, they are very clean and functional. The permanents are separate to tourist sites. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Clean gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: It was quiet and clean. The sites were fairly large and not on top of each other.
Local Information: Close by, there is a very well presented Railway Museum. Well worth the hour to have a look at.
Roads: We travelled down the Mt Lindsey Road through Bald Rock and Boonoo Boonoo. Although there was some dirt sections, it was fairly smooth going. Definitely no traffic.

Granites Motel & Caravan Park, Tibooburra

Turn left off main road when approaching from South. Opposite the servo. Only park in town. Book at TJ's Roadhouse. Ph: 08 8091 3305. Pets allowed.

Basic outback large caravan and camping park. No shade, all dirt sites. Amenities don't cope, need a spring clean and some TLC. But, for people who enjoy the outback, this is not a bad place to spend a few days. I booked in for 8 nights over Easter and enjoyed my stay. Tibooburra still has a touch of that old outback, lots to see and explore the District. Not 5 Star by any means, give them E for effort. I would call again. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice. Good value for money ($12 2A per night powered).
Roads: lift the foot, and enjoy the drive.

Tibooburra is the hottest place in NSW, so don't expect lush green grass. The park is all gravel with powered and non powered sites available. Nearly impossible to put pegs in so awnings are a no-go. Non-drinking water also available to each site. Very good value at $15 a night 2A powered). Attached motel has swimming pool but drought has closed it (probably permanently). Amenity block is good, clean and all that can be expected. 2 pubs, offering good meals and a large servo selling everything plus a few historic buildings make Tibooburra an interesting place to visit. As the only caravan site within 150kms there is no other choice, however it is fine for a couple of nights to explore the area. Very friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money.

A big roomy quiet park close to the "Swimming Pool" - a large waterhole left after tin dredging. The town has an interesting mining and rural history. Good spot to stay for a few days with plenty to see and do if so inclined. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Camp Blackman Camping Area, Warrumbungles National Park
Click here for park details on My Park List
35 km west of Coonabarabran off Newell Hwy. Coming from Gilgandra turn left to Tooraweenah and after about 10km turn right towards Warrumbungles National Park. After about another 30 km watch for the sign to the Visitors Centre (left turn). The road from the Newell Hwy through Tooraweenah to Camp Blackman is now all sealed. The park can also be accessed from Coonabarabran. Newell Hwy S in centre of Coonabarabran turn right to Siding Spring telescope (cannot drive to telescope with van/trailer on) continue past to Camp Blackman, all made roads. Ph: 02 6825 4364. No pets allowed.

Local Information: Great bushwalks, bike tracks, and lovely mountain views. Heaps of wildlife. Make sure you visit the Observatory. Never seen so many stars!! Siding Spring, free entry to rear of centre, or we arrived after closing and entered via unlocked gate near toilets. Some easy walks, some difficult - take water of course. Try some easy walks - breathtaking scenery. Or just sit back for a few days and listen to the wildlife.

Camp Blackman has 3 sections. Section 1 is where the amenities block with showers and flush toilets is located, all sites in it are unpowered and they are generally considered tent sites only though we did see a small van that fitted into a car parking area using one of the sites; larger vans will not fit. Section 2 is a mix of powered and unpowered sites that will take vans but during our time here was closed as it was being completely redone due to major flood damage early in the year. Section 3 is all powered sites and will fit large vans with some sites being drive through. It has a small new and very clean compost toilet block. It is approx 200m walk from either Section 2 or 3 to the Section 1 amenities block. We did not use the showers but they are timed to 5 mins and other campers neighbours told us they had plenty of hot water. There are a couple of taps with bore water which you are advised to boil before drinking in Section 3 but no water connections, so make sure your tanks are full before you arrive. All sites are reasonably level. It was very quiet when we were there and the staff member on duty in the Visitor Centre was extremely friendly and helpful, apart from help with getting a site she spent considerable time talking with us about the many walking tracks in the park. The cost was $20 2A per night for a powered site or $10 for an unpowered site, not cheap given the lack of facilities but the park is beautiful and peaceful (off season) and well worth a visit of at least a few days. We had kangaroos sitting right behind our van and birds were everywhere. The many walks in the park vary from 30 minute strolls to 7 hour major hikes

Report submitted by The Meadows (20).

Camp Blackman is in 2 sections, after you cross the creek crossing. To the right is the amenities block, UC electric BBQs with seating, and traditional tent camping area. To the left is the powered and unpowered camping/caravan sites, some with tables and seats. There is a single pit toilet block at one end. Depending where you set up there is plenty of shade. The powered sites are not marked - you park near a power pole as you wish.
There is now a new caravan parking area at the left of the road before the creek crossing to the old Camp Blackman. There are powered and unpowered sites including 7 drive-through sites for caravans. Most of the powered caravan sites are quite large and well separated from each other. No grass. All spaces have been covered with wood chips but a lot of new trees and bushes have been planted. There is also a new toilet facility having one ladies, one mens toilet plus one urinal. No new showers. The only problem is the water supply with only untreated water available, which has to be boiled for 3 mins for drinking purposes. Only one water tap for the whole new area plus a couple more at the new toilets. So for a longer stay make sure your water tank is full with good drinking water.
In general the DECC has to be commended for this new facility. Well done! Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($20.00 2A per night, powered). Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Mostly level sites, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to some sites, drive-through sites. Poor laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families.
Likes: Lots of wildlife, kangaroos, emus, birds and the stars on clear night are almost unbelievable. This is a National Park and you go there to enjoy nature. Great to have a place like this.
