Darlington Beach Resort, Arrawarra
Off Pacific Highway on Arrawarra Road, about 20 minutes North of Coffs Harbour. Ph: 02 6649 2977 or 1800 888 999. BIG4 member. No pets allowed.
Local Information: There is a good surf beach at the front of the park patrolled on most days by Lifeguards.

Be very careful staying in the unpowered camp sites because I think it was a swamp at one point and floods with storms. Choose your site wisely here otherwise you will end up over your ankles in water. They put out "port-a-loos" to help with the peak season rush but they were not serviced regularly. We had to constantly go to management and ask for them to be cleaned and toilet paper to be put in. OR they had no water left in their tanks so wouldn't flush. I felt for the size of the park they didn't cope very well when it was full to capacity. Lots of great activities for the kids and families. Pool was excellent. Very hard to get a booking in the powered or ensuite sites during peak time. They didn't clean the camp kitchen that well. Someone had left fish in the fridge and the juices had run through the fridge - smelt disgusting! It was like that for the majority of our 8 day stay. Offered a free sausage family sausage sizzle for New Years Eve and we planned our night and supplies around that (since it was our last night) only to find the sausage sizzle was cancelled due to none of the BBQ's working. I would have thought that this is something that you would have checked/maintained prior to such a busy time? A lot of families were left walking around wondering what was going on with that. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($80 per night 2A 2C, unpowered, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Basic playground in good condition. Clean heated pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The pool and great family atmosphere. Everyone staying at the park were really friendly.
Dislikes: Lack of attentiveness to the cleanliness side of things during this peak time. I would hope that it is better maintained when the park isn't so busy as to the $$$ they are charging. We are going back again this Xmas so we will update on our experience again.
Added Touches: They have a reasonably nice cafe.
Local Information: Big Banana was good but wouldn't actually go into the Big Banana part again. The kids loved the toboggan ride and the blow up water slide park. Great fun! The beaches around there are really nice but you need to be careful of sea lice - you can go there one day and it is awesome, go there the next and you can't even get into the water.

The Lorikeet Tourist Park, Arrawarra
About 20 minutes north of Coffs Harbour, off Old Pacific Highway. It is entered via an exit (one of several) off the highway just south of the southern-most Corindi turnoff. Ph: 02 6649 2717 or 1800 555 858. Top Tourist member. Pets at manager's discretion.
Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($40 2A 2C per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, average sized sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, good camp kitchen, secure entry. Peaceful. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: very clean and well presented, congtratulations to the Staff.
Dislikes: some truck noise, not too bad though

The majority of sites are ensuite. About a 400 metre walk through private track to a quiet beach (you could drive to just behind the beach via this track if desired). Very friendly staff, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($36 2Aper night powered ensuite site). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC electric bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere. The BBQs were in the camp kitchen; the old wood fired BBQs elsewhere were rusty and unused for some time. Good playground in good condition. Clean heated pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: The layout of the ensuite sites gave great privacy from adjacent site. The variety of the birdlife (they had an afternoon bird feeding session).
Dislikes: A little bit of truck noise from highway at night; not much street lighting in the ensuite site area.
Parking: Would be hard to turn around at the gate area if you changed your mind.
Added Touches: Bird feeding, bus to pub. The permanent sites were immaculate, the best we have ever seen, well done to those people.
Local Information: There are about 4 caravan parks along this stretch of beach, they all vary and even more around Woolgoolga.

Our dog posed no problems. They do usually put dog owners in the one general area because it is close to a large open space suitable for exercising them without worrying others. This area is still convenient to all amenities and not substandard in any way. In fact we had an ensuite site and many parks will not allow dogs on ensuite sites. It is also quite all right to walk dogs on the beach which is another plus for those travelling with dogs. Management do like you to mention the dog on booking.

Ballina Central Holiday Park, Ballina
River Street, located at the eastern end of the main street of Ballina. 2 blocks from main shopping centre, across road from river, swimming centre opposite. Ph: 02 6686 2220 or 1800 779 579. BIG4 member. No pets.
Stayed 4 days (instead of 2), $23.00 p/n powered site without discount. Reception very helpful and we were given a few sites to choose from. We chose site 38, a drive through, no shade site, near the spotless covered camp kitchen. The only amenities block, entered via a security code, was spotless and in excellent condition. The laundry had 4 machines and 2 commercial dryers, all in A1 condition, with good water pressure. Park is situated within walking distance of town, opposite the large town swimming pool, on a main road but quiet during the night. We ended up staying 4 days because Leszek wanted to do some charter fishing. Unfortunately the high winds and rough conditions on the bar prevented that, so we will definitely have to return and do some fishing. The bistro dinner at the Ballina Soldiers Club was the worst we have ever had. How could fish and chips be so bad in a coastal town? The only thing this park needs is some shade - otherwise it is a wonderful park. Highly recommended.

Likes: The support and friendliness of the staff and general overall layout including games and tent area

Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Likes: Clean and well maintained, much better than other nearby parks that we looked at first.

Parking: Only room for one not too large rig, otherwise the street is not very busy.

Managers are Glenn & Dolores. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints. Price was as expected, good value for money ($18 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, poor water quality, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, good rec room, kiosk, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, family/friendly atmosphere, too many permanents. Clean free UC gas bbq. Pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided.
Dislikes: Too many untidy permanent sites. New managers trying very hard to bring it up to scratch. Previous owners lost interest and let many things go, hopefully it will be better next year, good place for dog, only many live ins have dogs that are left and bark a lot, once again Glenn hopes to fix, only two that take dogs in Ballina and bit of a nuisance to cross ferry everyday to get to everything.
Local Information: Fishing at South Wall depends on weather. Dolphins and pelicans and sea eagles in abundance.
Roads: good
Park Rating 3: Suitable for a week or more.

South Ballina Beach Holiday Park, Ballina
Located at 440 South Ballina Beach Road. The easiest way to get there is if you are travelling north on the Pacific Highway, turn right onto Scenic River Drive before the bridge, and if travelling south turn left onto Scenic River Drive after the bridge, which then takes you to South Ballina Beach Road (approx 7kms). Heading south turn at roundabout at Big Prawn for South Ballina ferry, but watch for low tide you might not get on the ferry because of tow ball hitting ramp, coming from the south turn right just before the bridge at Wardell were it crosses the Richmond river and head straight for the caravan park. Ph: 02 6686 3347. Family Parks member. Small pets during low season only and at Managers’ discretion.
Nice park a bit out of Ballina, but a big park, The girls who do the cleaning are extremely friendly. Need to be careful - I walked down to the South Wall with my dogs, and some inconsiderate person had thrown broken glass, or something in the grass and it cut my dogs paw, thankfully not badly but still enough to make it bleed and sore for a few days. It is a narrow road down, so tried not to walk on the road in future I think I will just give it a miss or walk on the road. Friendly staff. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($22.05 A1 per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were clean, water pressure is good, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, no sites with concrete annex slabs, shade to most sites, drive-through sites. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: It is a nice location and a big park, with nice surroundings, well looked after.
Dislikes: Bit far out from Ballina itself, but nice for an overnight stop and looked better than some of the other dog friendly parks in Ballina
Local Information: Few things to do in Ballina.

Dog friendly. Stay 15 nights. We took the advice from a previous posting and didn't take the van over the ferry and we were very grateful for this suggestion. If you wish to do the same travelling south past Ballina and turn just before the bridge over the Richmond river at Wardell and turn back towards Ballina. This will put on a few more k's but worth it. We enjoyed our stay here. The Park is well maintained with grass, trees and shrubs. There are a large number of cabins in good condition with powered sites on the perimeters and at each end. Also there are three powered site in between the cabins. Most sites do not have sullage outlets but the ground is sand so water soaks away quickly. Also some sites have annex slabs. The western end is more park-like with sites located amongst the trees. The level of these sites varies but it looked like a great spot if you are staying for a while. The amenities are average and there are camp kitchens located at each end of the park. The ferry is very convenient for travelling to Ballina and beyond costing $3.70 per trip or about $36 for a week. If you are into golf there is a great 9 hole course at Teven with Teven Dog Boarding Kennels (02 6687 8082) on the way where we left our dog for the day. The tourist information also has information on where dogs can be walked on off leads. The one improvement that is needed for this Park is the instillation of a dump site as at present Van loos can only be emptied down the ablution block toilets.

Dislikes: Ferry is hazardous to caravans particularly at low tide. Go the long way it is not that far!

Manager's name is Rosie & John. Have stayed here several times and the park keeps improving, Rosie & John are extremely helpful and friendly but are strict when they need to be, they keep our kids in line, when they need to be told to behave but are still respected by everyone, just always a relaxed atmosphere. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, large sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen, kiosk. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, only in quiet times. Clean UC gas bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Friendly atmosphere as a lot of people return year after year, and Rosie & John really are just great friendly but strict.
Added Touches: Push bike hire, direct beach entry for 4WD all the way to Evans Head if tides are right.
Roads: Bitumen to caravan park and then a dirt road up to the rock wall on the south side of Ballina.

We were told not to take the ferry as some large vans have got stuck trying to get from the road to the punt, via the deep dip, and a front loader had to be brought in to shift the van. The owners are Rosie and John who made us most welcome. Stayed 2 days, $18.00p/n powered site. The kiosk doubles as reception and Rosie showed us a park map and told us where the best place would be to park. This park is quite large and has many cabins and some semi-permanents. The sites are grass and there is some shade. Amenities were spotless as was the open to the sun swimming pool. We were surprised to learn that the amenities block was 30 years old, because it was in excellent (as new) condition having been totally refurbished not long ago. Laundry was spotless and water pressure was good. Drinking water was from tanks. There is a children's playground and the beach is a short walk away. We stayed 2 days and then moved to a more central park in Ballina, not because we were unhappy in this park, but because Leszek had to get to the marina early for a charter fishing trip, and the punt would not have been operating early enough for him to get to the boat on time. Crossing via the punt to Ballina also was a bit of a drag ($3.20 one way/car - van was more). We would highly recommend this park if you want a spotless peaceful park for a good rest. Rosie and John will certainly make you welcome.

Massey Greene Caravan Park, Brunswick Heads
150 km south of Brisbane, 75 kms south of Tweed Heads. About 1km from the Brunswick Heads turnoff, off the Pacific Highway, 700m north of post office. If coming from Brisbane follow the old highway into town and just past the marina on your left is the entrance. Well sign posted. Ph: 02 6685 1329. No pets.
We booked in four nights and ended up extending another night. Right on the Brunswick River. Great if you have a boat as you can tie-up outside your caravan or tent if you have a water front site. The only thing I had against the waterfront sites is that they had no sullage (you had to collect grey water in a bucket) and no concrete slabs, but gravel. Our site was two back from the water front and had sullage, an annexe slab and green grass! Water pressure in the showers was poor - in the rest of the park it was good. The Park has also just changed from been controlled by the Byron Bay Shire to the State Government of NSW. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($26 A1 C1 per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No pets allowed. Clean free electric bbq in UC congenial area, lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. No pool. A well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Position overlooking the Brunswick River. Small beach on the river where one could swim in summer.
Dislikes: Showers had poor water pressure. Water front sites need annex slabs and sullage.
Parking: Designated check in parking area.
Added Touches: Brunswick Heads Bowls club had a free courtesy bus. There is a boat ramp and fish cleaning tables. No water restrictions in Brunswick Heads too.
Local Information: The Brunswick Hotel was in walking distance along with the Fishing Co-Op where a good meal of Fish and Chips can be had. They (the Co-Op) were a bit on the dear side mind you.
Roads: Major road works going on at the turnoff to Brunswick Heads, looks like it is going to be dual lane.

Van spaces with more effective power and water outlets are available along the water front sites. Riverfront sites can be difficult to get into and only smaller vans will get onto the waterfront sites. Amenities were clean. It is a popular park for young families so don't bother going in peak times if you value peace and quiet. However if you enjoy the sight and sounds of kids having fun and without having to be responsible for them it is not too bad. Staff were helpful. It is not especially cheap but location and outlook make it worthwhile. Good camp kitchen arrangements - several scattered through park.

End of Fingal Street, next to river and shops. Ph: 02 6685 1233 or 1300 726072. Top Tourist member. No pets allowed.
Manager's name is Shane and Jody Keen. This is an old park but everything is clean and everything works, the management team are great they even booked us ahead at a park from a competitive chain. So handy to a nice quiet village that has all you need that it makes an excellent transit stop for a night or a few nights Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($27 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Inadequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, too many permanents. Clean UC electric bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for few days, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Nice quiet and friendly place to park after a long drive with a lovely village atmosphere bot in the park and the shopping centre just outside the park.
Dislikes: Too many older permanent vans many of them occupying the best spots in the park which is on the riverbank.
Parking: Room for two vans to park after that you are out on the street.
Local Information: Just off the freeway it is easy to find and access, if travelling north a good place to stopover that gets you back on the road easily and is freeway most of the way to the sunshine coast and north.
Roads: Good road all the way.

Great position close to village, walk across bridge to surf beach, on a tributary for boating but be wary of the tide as it gets shallow quickly. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected, reasonable value for money ($30 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: Great position. Handy to all village facilities.
Dislikes: Stayed many times but this time there was a music festival in Byron and there was a $9 surcharge on sites for Fri, Sat and Sun. We weren't told this when we booked ahead and, as there were literally hundreds of extra campers in the park for those nights, we thought it was a bit rich! Should have been told it was on as we would have avoided that particular time. It was another camper who told us about it, not the management.
Added Touches: Free wifi for 2 hours per day.

Only stayed here because we needed a dog friendly park in Byron Bay. The park is in a poor run-down condition. Obviously being prepared for redevelopment once Council permits that. It is a very large place - 60 acres and used for music festivals and the like. This is its probable best use. Toilets and showers are of a low standard, missing toilet seats, tiles etc. Taps leaking. But does have a lot of hot water. Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($34 2A per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, very few concrete annex slabs, very few sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Poor laundry, no rec room. Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dismal UC bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground, no pool. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Close to Byron Bay and pet friendly with acres to exercise the dog
Dislikes: Park fees are per person, not per site.

Just a very basic park, old but reasonably clean separate toilet shower blocks, large sites. Set on many acres of land so plenty of room, select your own site, the type of park you'd expect to find way out bush. A few 'feral' permanents but most are in separate section. Very laid back management, lots of space to walk dogs. We'd stay again. Reasonable value for money. There was adequate hot water. Suitable for a few days.

Likes: Great range of health and organic foods at the shop on site - a shame about the lack of customer service from the people that run it. This appears to be run separately from the caravan park.

We stayed for one night and, while staff at the time of arrival were helpful, a senior staff member (perhaps the Manager) became extremely abusive including use of some highly colourful language on departure. We departed later than the 10.00 am departure time due to delays after heavy rain the previous night with large pools surrounding our site slowing down pack up; a broken down car belonging to a permanent resident partially blocking access and a large group of campers also packing up and restricting access to the one internal road which was useable for our vehicle/van combination. When I called at the office to apologise for being late and to ask for return of a credit card imprint taken as security deposit, the staff member became abusive about our lateness (there was no queue of vans waiting to use the site!), called me some names I would prefer not to repeat and certainly didn't appreciate my 4 year old son hearing. We used none of the park amenities so cannot comment on their adequacy. Site was very small for our larger van, hooking up and unhooking had to be carried out on roadway, no sullage disposal provided.

The park is changing. The relevant State Government Department took over the park in mid 2006 from the Byron Bay Shire. They are in now in the first year of a 3-year upgrade. All of the old cabins have been taken away and new ones are starting to be installed - alas taking away 7 powered sites that were most often used by caravans. A makeover of the toilet block is planned but when? When we stayed there (in the rain and wind...plus a visit by 2 very large pythons) of this year contractors were poisoning all of the non-native vegetation in the park. For all of its inadequacies re facilities its location remains first class.

An easy walk to the city centre. This park is in two sections; the park proper which is very neat and tidy with small sites and is dog-free, and, the overspill area in the Showgrounds which is suitable for larger vans, motorhomes and those with dogs. Each section has an amenities block and the one in the showgrounds was spacious, bright and cleaned well every day. Each amenities block has a laundry and there is a camp-kitchen and games room. The only negative we found was that, being next to the highway, there was heavy traffic all through the night and also with two hotels and the club just up the road, at weekends, there was a fair bit of rowdy noise in the street during the early hours. If you are asleep you don't hear it. Suitable for any length of stay.

Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: I loved the Kids club, the great pool for the kids, the family friendly large camp dining area, great size easy to walk about.
Dislikes: Some kid did a poo in the pool, my kids went and told office staff, 30 minutes later a guy came with net and got it out. [I see nothing has changed since 2005! Badger] The church group was at the park doing family activities each day. We didn't like how they came to everyone's van each day to give out their flyers. It'd be ok if you go to church.
Parking: Park in front of van site very small frontage on sites.
Local Information: The pet porpoise pool a local attraction, $75 for a family, this was great I recommend it to all. The Cold Rock Ice Cream Shop was yummy on Jetty Road but four sundaes cost $23.
Roads: Traffic chaos as we where entering Coffs harbour from Port Macquarie nearly all the way, it took ages to get there.

Friendly staff, average staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites. Noisy, but well maintained park.
Likes: Facilities were very clean and modern. Sufficient showers and toilets even in peak season. Great pool and playground for kids. Close to beach and marina.
Dislikes: During our visit a very large teenage Christian fellowship group had set up camp with several marquees. On a daily basis the group would walk around the park singing with loud speakers, this was very disruptive. We continually got approached by the group trying to get us to join in activities. The management did not attempt to control this. I believe the camp happens every year at Christmas time.
Local Information: The best coffee and meals at Cafe Aqua, 57 Ocean Parade, just up the street.

This is an excellent open and spacious park. It is well managed and maintained by efficient and generally friendly staff. It is well worth a high rating, but for all that we found it rather sterile and lacking in the cosiness and friendly atmosphere of smaller parks. Friendly staff, good value for money ($24.50 2A per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites. Good laundry. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park.

After previously staying in two other parks in Coffs Harbour, this is definitely the one to stay at. Beautiful swimming pool, 5 star front office, with staff to suit. I passed my compliments onto the staff at departure. Water pressure is a bit down at the showers (I'd say it was restricted due to drought) but good at the site. There are shady site and sites without shade - I always choose the latter. Very good management, friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Very good value for money. Very good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, there was adequate hot water. Very good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, annexe slabs were available, drive-through sites were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, security entry to park. Very good park atmosphere, quiet, open and roomy park, shady park, family-friendly park. No pets. Clean free ectric bbq in a congenial atmosphere, lit at night, with seating provided. Good playground, in good condition. Very good pool. Clean pool, area is shaded, kid-safe pool area, seating around the pool was provided, toddlers were catered for. The park was well maintained, the park can be considered kid-safe.
Likes: Resort type swimming pool, the powered sites had a hardened concrete area adjacent to the annexe slabs to park your caravan on.
Parking: Undercover drive-through check in area, which would be great if it happened to be raining while checking in.
Local Information: Porpoise Pet Pool which is a Dolphinarium nearby is worth taking the littlies to see.
Roads: Good road with a couple of roundabouts to negotiate, but nothing abnormal.

A large park run by a management team and staff who are efficient, helpful and friendly. Ample tourist information available and two internet connected computers for use by patrons. Park is well maintained with great tropical gardens especially around the large pool. We had an ensuite site which is drive through. Ensuites are new (opened at Easter 2006) and as could be expected are very well maintained. The park is spacious and all sites are well maintained.

Beautiful setting but prices have risen steeply in this park in the last two years but basic amenities and unlevel sites have not improved apart from the installation of a bbq. There was noisy earthworks being carried out around the campsites when we stayed along with tree removal and water and power cuts. The management did not offer a discount or seem to care less about the inconvenience to guests. We thought they were a bit arrogant and less than helpful. We discovered there was better value for our money and much better amenities down the road at Lorikeet Holiday park at Arrawarra. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($144 2A per week powered). Amenities are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, dump point. Crescent Head Caravan Park, Crescent Head
Crescent Head is on the coast, 19 kms east of Kempsey. Turn off Pacific Highway in South Kempsey. Crescent Head is at the south end of an arc of ocean beaches extending north to Smoky Cape and broken only by Hat Head. The main road into Crescent Head runs to the southern end of the beach with the shops on the right as you drive in and the houses along the hillside above the shops. A tidal creek runs from the southern end of the beach, around behind the dunes.Ph: 02 6566 0261 or 1800 006 600. Pets not allowed.
The entrance road is very narrow and also serves the general public parking around the surf club. The park is in 2 halves on either side of this narrow road. One side is very close to the beach but is not very private and very windy. The other is near a small creek and is much nicer. The office is behind the security gate on the beach side. There is nowhere to park adjacent and you have to use the public car park about 30m further on. Average staff friendliness, staff offered tourist advice. Manager's name is Phil and Sue Ogden. A previous report on this park (since deleted) was very critical but mentioned that a major re-fit was about to be undertaken. The result is a good example of how a run down park can be refurbished to become an example of excellence in the industry. Park is in two sections - both with boom gates - with public access and surf club between them. Creek frontage sites on left (if you are in a motorhome park front in to get the view on odd-numbered sites so power and sullage are on drivers side), sites on right are close to beach but public road and parking area separates them from the beach. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected ($22.50 2A per night powered). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean electric UC bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere. Good playground in good condition. No pool. Lack of pool not major problem as creek is clean and mostly shallow for kids to play. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Great walks at hand, (watched dolphins surf), 6-hole golf course, bistro and basic shops close by, kiosk and basic takeaway with internet access on site.
Added Touches: Kids activities in holiday periods.

Manager's name is Wayne & Narelle Mcgregor We found this holiday park via word of mouth and were very impressed. Good size level beach sites, concrete slabs, and good access. Amenities block is well maintained, bright and clean, pressure good & plenty of hot water. Park is right on the beach which is ideal for fishing, body surfing, board riding and swimming. Kiosk/general store at entrance. Very quiet and extremely peaceful. We pulled in out of school holidays and were surprised at how relaxed it was. Even during the first week of school holidays whilst the park filled up quickly there was still no feeling of being crowded in. Wayne and Narelle were just great and extremely accommodating, friendly and helpful. This is a Council operated park so there is no discount and at $32 per night for powered site on the beach we were more than happy to pay. Good value for money and child friendly. Follow the highway south through South Grafton towards Coffs Harbour, past service stations, and turn right into Heber Street, park is about 300 m on the left. This park is overrated at 3.5 stars. Check in was curt with no receipt and a quick direction to take any site on the right past the pool. There are palm trees planted between sites which are very nice, but they are offset and it is easy to miss seeing the second row and get the swing wrong, especially when you are on your own. The sites are nice enough, but a visit to the run down amenities block reveals a barely adequate state of cleanliness and it is a bit disconcerting to gaze up at the sky from the showers through a 3-foot hole in the roof. All this for $25.00 per night. The maintenance on power and water facilities is obviously running behind. One of the power outlets on the pole near my site was broken away with the 3 slots only just useable. One of the water taps leaked heavily around the spigot and was virtually unusable. Average staff friendliness. Price was as expected, poor value for money ($25 A1 per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, drive-through sites, hard to negotiate into site. Basic laundry, no rec room. Does anyone understand how the motoring organisations do their park ratings? This park is rated three and a half stars but the place was run down, sub standard and management did not control unruly behaviour of tenants. Average staff friendliness. Price was higher than expected, poor value for money ($23.50 2A unpowered). Inadequate number of amenities, are close to most sites, were dirty, condition is poor, water pressure is good, hot water was usually adequate but not when busy. Inadequate number of tourist sites, good night lighting, small sites. Basic laundry. Noisy, claustrophobic park, too many permanents. Clean pool.
Likes: Leaving after the first night of a 2 day booking to escape to a motel for some sleep and a decent shower
Dislikes: The endless loud drunken argument about the merits of Ford Vs. Holden that continued until three am, the one shower that had a leaking hot water tap connection that sent scalding water across the floor of the shower recess and the other shower that spurted water onto the ceiling to drop down again as a rainshower as you try to dry yourself.

Likes: It is close to town & easy to locate but with a rural setting. The information centre in town has had a lot of good feedback since new owners have taken the park over. The new owners have obviously put in a lot of effort into this park. It is extremely clean & tidy, nice large shady grassed sites, new clothes lines in the sun, new gardens & plants. Set on 32 acres this is by far the best park that we have been to. The sites are huge, with very well manicured lawns and wonderful gardens with well established trees. If one wanted to have a old fashioned picnic there was even plenty of open space with a beautiful lily pond and plenty of soft grass to sit on. We had a slab for both caravan, annex and car, and still had room left over. Actually the slab for the annex had steel hooks built into the slab to tie down the annex. The amenities were spotlessly clean and in excellent condition. A camp kitchen to die for, with all stainless steel benches, fridge, stove and oven, toaster, kettle etc. The showers were clean as a whistle with a seat to sit on, as well as for other items necessary to take to the shower. There was also a spotless barbeque with very clean tables and seats to eat your dinner once you had cooked it. Internet computer in a private room which I thought was a great idea. Roads were very good and the park was very easy to get around. Very easy to get to were about 8 drive-through sites which would take any size 5th wheeler I can think of. Staff were fabulous and after enquiring Gateway Village is a family owned park. This park is about 3 or 4 kms out of the CBD, but the peace and quite is wonderful. Costs were more than reasonable for a 5 Star Rating at $27.00, the third night 1/2 price and 7 day free which really interested us. We will be back for the Jacaranda festival in October 2009. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The sites for the caravans were very large and quite level. The grounds were stunning and very well taken care of. The shower facilities were the best we had seen, so far.

Great park. Good grassy sites. Average management. Reasonable value for money. Very good amenities. Good atmosphere to park. Suitable for a week or more, the park was well maintained.
Likes: Just a very nice park.
Roads: Narrow and awkward bridge over the Clarence River. Can be a bit tricky at various times of the day moving between Grafton and South Grafton. Would not like to take a big rig over it. Some of the roundabouts in town can be a bit tricky to negotiate.

Very good management, friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Good value for money. Very good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, security entry to park, van parking by management. Very good park atmosphere, quiet, open and roomy park, family-friendly park. Suitable for families, the park was well maintained.
Likes: very clean amenities, attentive staff, valet parking, ensuite sites.
Dislikes: the size of the sites reduced by little garden beds in between sites. Valet parking compulsory, which meant unhooking the van, allowing the staff to park it and then hitching the van back up again to level it up. Ludicrous! Reaching the beach requires crossing a busy road. Park not "beach front" Just little things, really. It's still a great park.

2 minutes north of Pottsville Beach. Excellent resort for families with kids as the tariff may sound expensive but most activities are included. Neptunes Castle is a great kids play centre at the resort, fully supervised free activities all day and evening during school holidays, free movies shown on big screen most nights, free Austar to every site, free tennis, free table tennis and inexpensive electronic games and pool table. Modern shaded playground. Spotless camp kitchens and BBQ's, well landscaped and shaded, did not feel crowded even though park was full and we did not even know of permanents as they are tucked away at back of the park. Private bathroom for extra $8 per night was fantastic. Better than ensuite sites as we were closer to other facilities which we used more often and ensuite sites looked a lot smaller and crowded than powered sites. Three heated swimming pools open 7am to dusk, bike track out the front with huge skate park a 10 minute ride away. Safe children's swimming lagoon at high tide with canoe hire across bridge, a 5 minute walk away and an un-patrolled surf beach is also close by. On site restaurant which is open 7 days. Good value meals, especially their specials nights Wednesday and Mondays. Check in was easy and trouble free, even though it was very busy when we got there. "Marriage Saver" van parking is a real bonus after a long days driving to get there. They put the van on your site as soon as you check in with their tractor. It was so easy as the sites are tight in places. Price was lower than expected, good value for money ($44 2A 2C per night powered). Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. No pets allowed. Clean free gas bbq in congenial UC bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, heated, toddlers catered for. Suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Van parking, quick response to any enquiry, very helpful and friendly, on site school holiday activities and very family orientated park, immaculate private bathroom amenities and clean BBQ facilities, very quiet at night despite being full, deserves its 5 star rating.
Parking: Easy off street parking for at least three rigs with separate check in lane and security entrance boom gates.
Added Touches: All school holiday activities were included in tariff.
Local Information: Great meals and friendly service at Kingscliff Kong Kong Chinese restaurant 15 minutes north of Hastings Point. Nearby bushwalking and National Park hinterland is fantastic. Uki Pub excellent. Fresh cheap prawns sold at restaurant on site were totally delicious.
Roads: easy access all directions.

Likes: We really liked the situation of being between the inlet and beach. The town has a great holiday atmosphere to it and even though it was full during the holidays everyone made an effort to be fairly quiet after dark.
Dislikes: The toilets were quite open and the wind howled through there, so it made it really cold after showering. Also there was no baby bathing area just an over size basin in the middle of the block. The Camp kitchen was a long way from our site so if you need to use it see if you can get a site close by.

Likes: The park was immaculate, not one blade of grass was out of place, the amenities was spotless always, the pool was lovely as was the playground. The Managers were extremely helpful when making our booking.
Dislikes: The Managers were lovely, very friendly and helpful, but the owner who was rude, volatile and at times frightening towards us in the manner in which he spoke and conducted himself. On one occasion we were spoken to like school kids on a camp, which was witnessed by numerous other campers who all commented to us how rude this person was and how this remark was very uncalled for. This person made our stay very uncomfortable. On the other hand the manager was great and apologised for the way we were treated.

Showers were roomy, with curtains and plentiful hot water, and mop was available. Park facilities included pool, playground, barbecues and camp kitchen. Not well lit at night, and some muted noise from nearby motorway. Good TV and mobile phone reception. Lake Ainsworth Caravan Park, Lennox Head
Lennox Head is in northern NSW between Byron Bay and Ballina. Park is located at the northern end of Pacific Parade at Lennox Head, opposite the surf club and Lake Ainsworth. Ph: 02 6687 7249. BIG4 Park. No pets allowed.

We are new managers, began in August 2008. We have begun to work on improvements in the park. So far we have rendered the amenities blocks so they look a lot nicer, the old office and managers residence has been removed and the new office and kiosk has been build. New entrance and boom gates. We have tidied up around the park, pruning the trees, and filling the holes and establishing new turf. Four new Deluxe Villas have been installed which suit larger families or those who would like more space. The Basic and Ensuite Cabins have been renovated, and now have air conditioning, and all beds are now made. There is new slab parks next to the ensuites cabins. We became a BIG4 Park in April 09. Put a camp kitchen with a TV into the laundry of Block 4.
Date 06/2009.
Report submitted by Debbie and Aaron, Park Managers.

Now a BIG4 park. Most of the sites are grassed with only a handful of slab sites. There are a lot of unpowered sites right at the back of the park which have a real 'bush camp' feel. Very good management, friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Reasonable value for money. Good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, the site size was okay, hard to negotiate in to/out of site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, dump point, security entry to park. Good atmosphere to park, open and roomy park. Suitable for a week or more, the park was well maintained.
Likes: The park has the bonus of the sea on one side and the tea-tree lake on the other. The lake is great for swimming, sailing and canoeing. It is shallow on the edges near the park and is great for small children. Most grassed sites when we were there were in really good condition. The sites are of a very good size, would fit all but the largest rigs. We had very large motorhomes nearby that had no problems fitting on the sites.
Dislikes: The roads within the park are very narrow and this makes it very difficult to back on to sites .. especially in busy times when the sites are full. Washing machines are a little expensive at $4 a load.
Parking: There is parking outside the park along the fence and also a book in lane in front of the boom gates when you enter the park for booking puropese. If you are in the book in lane at the boom gates the staff can see your rig on the camera and get an idea of your size.
Local Information: It is a good walk into the town of Lennox Head where there are many good restaurants of varying styles to choose from eg. Thai, Chinese, Indian, Mexican (great) as well as the Bowling Club, the hotel and fish and chip shops. The supermarket in the town good for grocery and there is a bakery and a butcher shop. Surf is quite good for those who use a board.

Average length sized sites with large rigs having difficulty fitting into the allotted space. Sites are wide with room for van, annexe and vehicle. Roads narrow, making manoeuvring vans into sites awkward, especially when busy. Sullage and water to sites. Dump point. No shade. No pool. Suitable: For a week or more due to the location
Likes: Closeness to patrolled surf beach
Dislikes: Would not cater for more than a couple of large rigs. Small children would need to be watched due to closeness to the water and no perimeter fencing on the road side.

Maclean Riverside Caravan Park, Maclean
Take north or south exit from Pacific Highway and follow signs. Ph: 02 6645 0268.
Despite the sterling efforts of managers this park can only be given a low rating. There are only 4 caravan sites in the park, the remainder are cabins. The sites are new drive-through but with only a metre between them and are difficult to access and exit. The amenities are old but kept clean. Half the cabins are permanents and make life difficult for managers (they were required to intervene in domestic disputes on each of the nights we stayed). The park is located beside a very busy service station which operates 5am-10pm and which is very noisy on the caravan sites. Maclean is a very pretty town in a beautiful river valley. Despite this being the only park in the area we would look elsewhere in the future. Overnighter only if desperate. Friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful.

A large grass and shady tree covered park situated on side of a rise but with most sites level with annex slabs. Good water pressure, sullage and dump site. Popular with families as the beach area is very safe and also accessible for fishing. Amenities clean but could be over extended during the high season as there is also large area of unpowered sites for campers. Good camp kitchen and management puts on a BBQ that the children really enjoy. Need to be prepared for biting insects around the beach/river area. Lovely spot to setup for a week or more. We will return. Friendly management was helpful. Reasonable value for money.

Manager's name is laurie. Not a bad park, until you have a genuine complaint. My wife did a wash in their laundry and the washing machine leaked oil on an expensive top and a pair of jeans. Both items were rendered totally unwearable. We were told by management that the machine was ok and anyway use of the machines were at "your own risk". Then to contradict himself he put an out of order sign on the offending machine. We warned as many of our neighbours as possible. So I guess the message is, nothing wrong with the park, friendly staff but don't wash anything there. Very poor management. Good value for money. Good amenities, adequate number to cater for tourists, close to sites, water pressure was okay. Lighting at night was adequate, annexe slabs were available, hard to negotiate in to/out of site. Laundry, good camp kitchen, dump point, open and roomy park. Clean electric bbq. Basic playground, condition okay. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Near the river and beach.
Dislikes: Staff who on face value were friendly, but completely ignored a genuine case of equipment malfunction, and did not offer or give compensation.
Parking: Poor parking space for your car and caravan whilst booking in, resulting in build up of cars and vans
Local Information: Coffs Harbour is 12 km away and is a beautiful place, plenty of beaches, walks and fishing.
Roads: Sealed roads ok

Manager's name is Leanne and Eugene Anderson. We stayed 4 nights and wished we had allowed more time to stay longer. A great site virtually right on the water (there is a public reserve between the site and the beach). Good managers who were always bright and cheerful as well as helpful. Facilities clean and tidy, including hand soap, plugs in sink, super hot water and even a medicated tissue to open the amenity door with! A community BBQ was organised as a meet and greet function. Good walks on the headland or beach when the tide was out, for you and the dog. A variety of sites were available both grassed and slab. 12kms to Coffs Harbour to the south and 12kms to Woolgoolga to the north. Our only complaint was the dog poo on the public reserve which was a disgrace. We have already booked our next stay. Friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Good value for money. Adequate number of amenities to cater for tourists, close to sites, were clean, were in good condition, water pressure was okay, there was adequate hot water. Good sites, adequate number of tourist sites, sites were level, lighting at night was adequate, the site size was okay, annexe slabs were available, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Laundry, good camp kitchen, kiosk. Very good park atmosphere, quiet, shady park, family-friendly park. Clean UC bbq. Suitable for a week or more, the park was well maintained.

Manager's name is Eugene and Leanne Anderson. Ph: 02 6653 6552 or 1800 184 120 Price was as expected, good value for money ($25.00 2A per night). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Basic laundry, late checkout allowed (up to noon). Quiet, open & roomy park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No pool. Suitable for few days, suitable for families.
Dislikes: Some sites difficult to reverse in to and the site we had was very steep. It had rained previously and the roads were already muddy. We got more rain whilst there and it became almost impossible to access our site due to the mud. Also the park is close to the public picnic facilities where it appears that dogs are let loose even the signs do not allow. The park does not seem to have any strict controls over animals and dogs were allowed to run off leash by some owners. We were also told that the midges are a big problem in season.
Parking: Ample space to park whilst checking in.
Local Information: Fishing nearby when the tide is in at other times it is a long way to the beach to swim or fish but would be a very children safe area to swim.

The cleanest, neatest park we have stayed at. The owners, Stewart and Gwyneth, greet you with a smile, and assist with parking. Sites are double concrete slab with plenty of room. Roadways are wide and straight. There is not a lot of shade. Amenities are cleaned daily and Stewart and Gwyneth regularly check them at different times during the day, right up to late at night to make sure they are kept clean. Curtained, spacious, shower area (Water saver but quite good) and dressing area keeps reasonably dry. Free, under cover, gas BBQ with basic kitchen facilities. No playground or games room. Laundry facilities clean and efficient. Pool is basic and there is a car and boat washing area. Kiosk, gas filling and tourist info available. Pets welcome. We have stayed there on three separate occasions, each about 4 nights, over a 12 months period the last occasion being May 2006. Only a few permanents most of whom are in a separate area from the tourists. An ideal park for grey nomads to stay for a few days. When you leave Stewart and Gwyneth see you off with a shake of the hand and good wishes. The only park we have stayed at where this kind of courtesy has occurred.

The park has two areas, the older formal caravan park area, and another section called the wilderness area which is an open area for vans and camping/tent sites. Larger rigs would be fine in this area once they have snuck through the older area of the park, although not all of the van sites are level which could be a problem for motorhomes in busy times. We used this area so we had some space and a fire place nearby. We were there in winter and it was not busy. In the peak times the amenities would struggle with numbers. Amenities were clean, and pretty new in the wilderness area - showers were pretty small with limited space/shelving for gear - timed hot water. Can't comment on the main facilities. There is a shop onsite with a reasonable range of essentials. Firewood/ice available for purchase. Pool area appeared reasonable. There are some cabins; one in which friends stayed was very musty. Powered site was $20 per night for two. Don't wear a Lions cap when booking in unless you want some ribbing from staff. Would be noisy in busy times; pleasant in winter - lots of birdlife around and starry nights beside the fire were great.

This is situated in a lovely area. Very bushy, plenty of shade and with a rocky running creek running through the park. Our kids had a wonderful time paddling in the creek and making rock dams. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($18 2A + $6 per child) per night unpowered). Likes: Bush atmosphere, hear the running creek as you sleep, shady campsites. Campfires were at many bush camp sites and firewood delivered several times a day. Park has tennis courts and the creek for the kids. We loved the park and facilities and any other time than the peak Easter period it would be a wonderful place to visit. We had a few days there before the rush of Easter crowds and it was lovely and quiet.

Local Information: Walking distance to RSL, golf & bowls clubs, several restaurants & take away outlets. Launch your boat from the boat ramp or fish from the adjacent riverbank within site of your van.
Stayed 3 days, $23.00 p/n powered site. Reception was very helpful. Owners were away so acting Manager friend from Bateman's Bay was looking after the park, and he did a good job. Leszek was taken by golf buggy to inspect our site, which was level grass/gravel/drive through, no shade, and a little distance from amenities. Our site was very close to the river on the U bend so we had a road on three sides. This was no problem. It poured on our first night and got a bit muddy but we managed. The amenities block was old but must have been renovated not long ago and was spotless. Laundry had 3 washers and 1 drier, and my only gripe was that there was no path to the laundry so you had to walk under clothes lines over wet grass. A path would be helpful, so would a garbage tin in the laundry to deposit the lint from the dryer. BBQ area was under cover near the river. This park is within walking distance to town and clubs. We had a good meal at the Bowling Club, but it took 1 hour and 45 minutes for our meal to be served, so we did not return. We would recommend this park because it is clean, well managed, near a river and within walking distance to town.

New owners took over late 2005 & in March 2006 it became a BIG4 Park. Roads are being bitumen surfaced, much turf has been laid & quite a few lovely new cabins have been erected. Much work is being carried out & this park should look a real picture later this year. We stayed on an ensuite site which normally costs $32 per night, however for a winter special we paid 5 & stayed 7 ($160). Very friendly staff & management. We most definitely will be going back to this delightful spot.

Park was reasonable for overnighter, possibly two nights, but sites are hard to get into and quite small. We are not used to hearing road noise where we live so we found being right on the highway was quite a noisy affair; people who are used to living with road noise might not find it as bad. Overall the park was okay. I would stay at a pinch but would prefer to look elsewhere first. Average staff friendliness, staff explained park layout and facilities. Likes: Park is not too large, most sites are along the edge of the Bellenger River and most have good shade. Sites are easy to back on to. Some have slabs and some do not.
Dislikes: At busy times and weekends, the waterskiing in the river can be quite noisy. The rail line is quite near and the trains are quite noisy as well but you get used to the few trains daily quite quickly.
Added Touches: Has a boat ramp and a fish cleaning table. Also has boat and canoe hire.
Local Information: Coffs Harbour half an hour drive. Nice drive up to Dorrigo through Bellengen. Good park for touring the area. North Beach 5km further east has a Bowls Club with a Chinese restaurant and a bistro.

Very large Park, 8 ensuite sites. Vans, cabins and permanents kept quite separate. A lot of grassed areas. Key to facilities ($20 deposit). Rear gates lead to waters edge and good views of the surfing beach & views but without access that we could find but a good sandbar ok for kids. Unless you have some sort of booster, this is a total TV black spot. Average staff friendliness, good staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was higher than expected ($28 2A per night powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good idea to check site offered as there are some very unlevel. Clean UC electric bbq (pay), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Excellent playground in good condition, quite a distance from vans. No pool. We have stayed here at least once a year for 5 years and have no complaints. We always choose the top area with great views and good facilities. Park location is great - easy walk to estuary, surf, great restaurants, cafes, cinema, bowls club dining, food shopping. New villas look great but do restrict sites available. Bongil Bongil National Park is next door and offers beautiful walks if you get tired of sea and sand. Prices are reasonable.

I would go back to this park again and again if I could, it is a beautifully maintained park. Likes: I loved this park, it had a lovely ensuite, lovely view, shady, nice atmosphere, close to the lake, dog friendly. Lots of room to walk the dog, especially along the creek into town. I arrived after hours, and the security guy took me to the site, and helped me on the site, then pushed my caravan over so it was straighter, he went beyond the service required and was extremely helpful and polite. It was an easy walk into town, and a nice walk to the beach and creek where the dogs could go swimming.
Dislikes: Only thing I didn't like was paying $1 for the BBQ, but was lazy and couldn't be bothered to use my own.
Parking: Off road parking, easy to park.
Local Information: Trial Bay goal at South West Rocks is lovely, and the lighthouse and the small shopping centre in centre of town is nice to walk around. Visitor Information Centre, also craft shop.
Roads: Fine, I arrived in the dark, and was thankful to have a GPS to tell me where to go, but not far off the Pacific Highway.

We personally inspected the park 4 days before we were to arrive and booked a site that we carefully chose. When we arrived there was a van on the site even tho we were told it was free. Management helped us choose an alternate and also to park the van. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to all sites, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites , mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, good rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, secure entry, van parking. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, congenial bbq area atmosphere. Good playground in average condition. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Great Ameneties. Free cuppa and biscuit each morning tea time in the very nice camp kitchen. Scones on a Wednesday.
Dislikes: Long walk to the beach. Jumping pillow right among the van sites (Noisy from dawn to well after dark). Constant use of petrol lawn edgers, mowers, leaf blowers really over the top.

Rules posted on bill boards everywhere but the management do not enforce eg Loud talking/parties in various locations of the park and drunk people singing till all hours. Average staff friendliness, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, poor value for money. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites. Good laundry, basic rec room, secure entry. Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Dirty UC bbq, bbq area lighting. Dirty pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for few days, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Kids liked the ice cream at the kiosk. Very few mosquitoes compared to another park our friends were staying at.
Dislikes: When it rains the park really floods as it's on the same level as a nearby lake. Our tent site was in the middle of a puddle with nowhere to move. Our tent and many others were 3 inches full of water and didn't drain till after lunch the next day (our 6 inch air bed saved us). Ensuites are clean on arrival then it's up to you to keep it clean. Only adult bicycles for hire you need to bring your own kids bikes. Games room require cash deposits for each game and when the office closes at 6pm no more games. The tennis court is on top of the amenity block needing the parks special equipment so leave your tennis gear at home. There is not enough pool seating during peak times e.g. people use towels to reserve the few seats provided. Long walk to the nearest beach that is deserted then walk the same distance again before you reach a patrolled beach (kid safe). Nearby lake is more like a swamp that is smelly and not suitable for swimming and be careful of the small snakes the kids easily find. Not all mobile phone providers work in this town. The pool needs shade cloth for skin protection. Long walk to camp kitchen and you need to wash up early before the lights are turned off. Roads are not sealed therefore, they can get muddy.
Local Information: Excellent beach near Trial Bay Goal suitable for all children e.g. calm waters for under 10 years and further along there's perfect waves for kids learning to ride a surf board. Only problem is, you need to drive there.

Large and very well maintained BIG4 park set in bushland and backed by National Park. Friendly reception although not conducted to site. Sites and cabins set among trees with reasonable shade, all roads kerbed and guttered. Sites roomy, many with annexe pads and others well grassed. Power and good water to all sites. Two amenities blocks, both spotlessly maintained, would be adequate for numbers at peak periods. Soap and dryers provided. Showers roomy, good hot water, with mats but no curtains. Mop and bucket available. Large camp kitchen with barbecues, free morning tea on weekdays except during school holidays. The facilities include TV and games room, pool, playground, volleyball court. Shop and café at reception, pay phone in park. We found TV reception generally poor, with ABC un-watchable. Adequate mobile phone signal. Reasonably well lit at night, boom gate security. $26 for 2A before Big4 discount considered reasonable given standard of park.

This park has no swimming pool but there is safe swimming in the river that runs along the front of the park. There is no playground either but there is a council playground near the entrance to the park. Some sites have slabs but most do not. There are a large number of permanent vans in the park, most seem to be holiday vans. These are located at the back of the park and the tourist sites are between them and the river. The park is long and narrowish, running along the river edge. The unpowered section at the far end of the park is nicely grassed and well shaded from the afternoon sun. The town has a hotel and a workers club and bowling green. It has a butcher, well stocked general store and a newsagent. The camp kitchen is located on the grassed area overlooking the river, it is undercover, well stocked with appliances and has a good amount of seating. The far end of the park is the most shaded, the first sites in the park (closer to the office), have less trees and are open to the sun. Very friendly staff. Price was as expected, good value for money ($124.00 2A per week powered). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, concrete annex slabs, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. We stayed over the Australia Day weekend. Park was tidy and clean. Amenities were very good. Park was not full (it is a large park) but even when busy amenities would be adequate. Handy location. There were some midges, but no more than one would expect at that time of year beside a tidal river. A handy base if the south end of the Gold Coast region is your area of interest. Stayed 5 days, $25.00 per night powered site, but if you stay 2 nights or more, it is $20.00 per night. We were going to stay 3 days and stayed 5. Reception average friendliness. We were given a map of the park and shown our site, No. 240. This is a large circular caravan park with the swimming pool in the centre. There are four identical amenity blocks situated in the north, south, east and west areas of the park. Amenities would be sufficient if the park was full. They were clean and in good condition, with good water pressure. Paper towels and soap were provided. Very good laundry with plenty of clothes lines. The sites all have slabs and roads are tarred. The park itself is neat and tidy and some sites have some shade. Large garbage hoppers are placed throughout the park, quite a distance from some sites. The nearest to our site was at the security entrance gate. There are 2 bbq areas, one in the south area and the other in the north near the boat ramp and dump point. Night lighting is via high beam lights placed on very high poles near the central swimming area. They did the job most adequately. Park has approximately 10 cabins and around 259 tourist sites. It is situated on the river so there were lots of midgies and mosquitos. A notice is handed to you when booking in that they hold a program of "fogging" the park at those times when midges are most active. When we stayed the park was about 10% full. This is a great park and we would stay again - would just like some shade and more rubbish bins placed around the park, and less mosquitos.

Clean park, however ensuite sites are old and in desperate need of a refurbishment; chipped tiles and stained ancient sinks, as clean as possible however. Very poor night lighting throughout the park, no lighting over ensuite doors. No security whatsoever, last check done around 8pm until 6am. Very noisy as in flight path to Coolangatta airport day and night. Staff friendly however a bit blasé when reporting any incident. Vans and annexes need to be locked 24hrs a day even when going to bathroom, whilst staying there people were robbed whilst sleeping. Permanent residents also. Concerns voiced re lighting and security levels but nothing advised to remedy the problem just that they were aware that it's happening. Great camp kitchen, and good playground facilities. Pool good but not much shade for chairs etc. Friendly staff, bad staff response to complaints, van parking assistance provided by staff. Dislikes: The noise from the highway is the only thing but I got used to it after a few days; and the amenities are old.
Parking: The office is at the end of the caravan park; the top office has been closed.
Added Touches: Boat ramp, wharf.

Park office is not sign posted very well. Park was fairly clean, drive through sites, cement slabs for powered sites. Plenty of powered sites but assume very crowded in holidays. On the creek with a short walk to unpatrolled beach. Nice location. Some trees for shades in the van area, friendly possums and lorikeets. Pricing was 29 2A plus 5yo and 3yo. Bar and restaurant area but food only available through peak times. Bar open. Kids playground reasonably new. Mini golf is just rotted timber and unplayable, sand tennis courts not maintained, much waterlogged whilst we visited. Amenity block (main) was clean and in good condition. Water pressure was good. Hot water was hot and seemed to be plenty, once again holiday times may be different. Park is full of permanent residents and cabins. Very large park though. The park looks like it is run down a bit, but the may be looking for that look, as the function centre area was call the woolshed? Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites. Quiet, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, too many permanents. Clean pool is open to the sun. Suitable for few days, well maintained park.
Likes: Plenty of room and close to swimmable creek and beach. Close to Coffs and Nambucca
Dislikes: Open for hoons to do laps in the park, which happened every night we were there. A bit hard to find your way into and around.

Likes: We have stayed here several times now and use it as a weekend escape from the Gold Coast. The owners are absolutely wonderful people and make you very welcome. The park has the space for quite a few vans but they like to keep it comfortable so Colin prefers to not fill every space... amazing...a non greedy park owner. The amenities are a few years old but are spotless. This is a park that really does make your dog welcome...or your horse if need be. Highly recommend it to all.

What's great about this park is the location - right near the lake and close to the beach. Some sites have both views and some have either. It's a council park same as the one right in the centre of the town. Good management, friendly management, management responsive to comments, management was helpful. Reasonable value for money. 64 Newman Street. Turn into the town at the roundabout and bear left, then sharp left before the RSL Club, first right and follow the road. Ph: 02 6654 1499. Dogs on leash.
Mostly permanents, although possibly the neatest, tidiest, well-maintained permanents we have seen, there is an area for tourists which is much sought after by Victorian bowlers in the winter months. The park is well-maintained with an attractive pool area, large, undercover, camp kitchen/BBQ area and tennis court. Most sites have concrete pads and there is a grassed area for overnighters. Amenities are light and airy but, the shower cubicles have no bench or shelf, just a small round plastic stool which some people place in the showers so there may be nowhere dry to put your things. Shower heads are only about shoulder height to the average person which means you need to duck and weave to get under them (which probably explains why some people put the stools in the shower). The Woolgoolga Bowls Club is only 2 minutes walk away with the beach, shops and RSL Club about ten minutes walk so a well-located park. Suitable for overnight or extended stay.
Dislike: Notice in reception advises that any van with an air-conditioner will be charged an extra $2.50 per night whether you intend to use it or not!

Just a quick note when visiting this park; take plenty of Bushmans or Rid as there Sandflys & Midges by the millions as we just spent a week there and we are absoulutly covered in bites. We don't know if we will ever return because of this as we are still getting over the bites two weeks after leaving. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: The park is under going improvements and the Camp Kitchen facilities were the best we have seen any where they looked brand new and had 10 timber tables all under cover also a section inside with the building with cook tops, toasters, fridges, sinks etc. It looked more like a commercial kitchen that would adequately cope for the campers. Park is spacious and has an open feel about it with lots of Palms between the sites where we were. I believe that the upstairs area will be a huge lounge with big screen TV but this is not completed at this date. The riverfront has a retaining wall all the way along the park which made it very easy to fish from.
Dislikes: The night lighting along the main thoroughfare through the park is inadequate and in fact it was pitch black. Also the roads through the park need maintenance as they were pot holed. Take care with the new shower facilities behind the camp kitchen. You have to press a button as you enter, this in fact is a timer for the hot water so if you aren't quick the hot water ceases. It is a reasonable distance to the beach from the park and when we went to look at the beach access it had suffered from erosion and it was a fair jump down to the beach itself.
Parking: Take care at the front gate when arriving as it is easy to block other vehicles gaining access.
Added Touches: Great Put Put Golf area (payment required), boat ramp suitable for small boats and fish cleaning table at the river.
Local Information: Wooli is a very quiet area between the ocean and the river and is a place to relax. Bowling Club has great Chinese meals. Remember to bring all of your supplies with you as there is not much in the way of shops at Wooli.
Roads: Take care as the road is narrow but traffic is light at most times.

All well signposted. A large park situated on Wooli River. Sites are large and easily accessed. Riverfront sites are excellent. Management is efficient and friendly at the office but not sighted around the park. The park is kept reasonably tidy. Amenities were adequate and were kept clean. The park has had a lot of money spent on it recently and is developing into an excellent facility. Price was reasonable. The park is suitable for any length of stay. Wooli is well off the beaten track and doesn't have too much to offer but for a quiet holiday it is hard to beat. We would stay again.

Manager Jan & Richard. Delightful spot. Amenities suffer at peak times but the park is currently increasing amenities to compensate. Owners are pouring a lot of time and money into this park and it's going to be brilliant once it's finished. Camp sites are huge and have their own fire place/bbq plate for each site as well as a picnic table/seat for many of the sites. Firewood supplied free of charge and plentiful. No sullage and poor TV reception (thank goodness). Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is bad, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, large sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, secure entry. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean free wood bbq, congenial bbq area. Good playground in average condition. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: River sites are wonderful. Lots of space.
Dislikes: Current amenities can't handle peak times at the moment but the new amenities block should be finished by now.
Parking: Try to park to one side of the entrance way, otherwise the gate is blocked to people coming in.
Added Touches: Petrol station with a fish & chip shop/store, pizza shop and butcher attached is right at the front gates. Pub/hotel is right next door. There is also a fishing and scuba dive shop attached to the petrol station. Boat ramp in park. Hire canoes & kayaks. Putt Putt golf.
Local Information: Walking distance to surf beach. Boaties can fish in the river or head out through the bar for "outside" fishing. Grafton & Coffs Harbour are great for day trips. The local bowls club has a lovely Chinese restaurant attached.
Roads: The road off the main highway is bitumen although in many places it's only a little more than a car width wide with rough edges. Luckily the road isn't that busy so it's not a big issue.

Added Touches: Once a fortnight there is a bus into Grafton to do your shopping or anything else you need to do. Cost is $5 per person. Boat ramp, fish cleaning table.
Local Information: There is a bowling club, a hotel, and a small restaurant, and a nearby jetty. There are fishing charters nearby and national parks to take nice walks. There is rock walls down at the mouth to the ocean.

This has to be one of the 'best-located' parks in Australia. The northern boundary follows the bank of the Clarence River, the width of a walking path away. The eastern end of the park has a safe beach 100 metres and a surf beach 300 metres away, each along concrete walking tracks. 100 metres from the entrance and you are in the centre of town. From the western end of the park it is 100 metres to the bowls club and 300 metres to the golf club. The park has a security fence along three sides with keyed entry gates. The river side is open. There are two amenities blocks, the original, now renovated, in the centre of the park and ensuite type block at the eastern end. All are in excellent condition with good water flows, soap and hand towels supplied. There are two laundries, a children's bathroom, playground, a number of 'coin-in-the-slot' electric BBQs, dump point and internet access (broadband) including lap-top connection facility (dial-up). Sites are fairly level, some with concrete pads, some without. A lot of the sites are short but all are wide enough for van, annex and vehicle to be parked. Staff are very friendly and helpful. No games room or camp kitchen but there is a sink for dish washing. Tariff at $22 seniors, is quite high but, unless you want to, you don't need to use the car so there is a saving there. We stayed a week and recommend this park to just about anyone (excepting pet owners) for a week or more.
