901 Stuart Hwy. 17km S of Darwin city on right side of highway N of Palmerston Shopping Centre. Member FreeSpirt chain. Ph: 08 8935 0888 or 1800 350 888. No pets allowed.

A large park with plenty of sites and amenities about 17 km from the centre of Darwin. Palmerston shopping centre about 3 km away. Very busy when we were there, visitors at this time would be advised to pre book. Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($38.00 2A per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, no permanents. UC bbq, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Plenty of room and sites adequate for most vans. Plenty of facilities. Nice pool areas with seating etc. Bar and meals available at the main pool
Dislikes: Thought the cleaning of amenities could have been better. Sites were not clearly defined, need better marking.
Added Touches: Pancake breakfast on Saturdays $5 per head.

No longer a BIG4 park. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($39 2A 1C per night). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, were clean, condition is very good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. No rec room, camp kitchen, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Peaceful, no permanents. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: It was far from full occupancy in September & was quite peaceful. Very much a resort-style park. 3 swimming pools.
Dislikes: No longer any playground or recreation room. No longer a BIG4 park so discount not available but this was offset as kids stayed free in September. It appears to be more adult orientated than previously.

Friendly staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, good value for money ($35 2A 2C per night, powered, off-peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, secure entry. Peaceful, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is open to sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Jumping Pillow for the kids, great bistro / tavern around main pool. 3 pools to choose from. Happy hour each night at tavern and free quiz night with cheap schnitzels every Thursday.
Dislikes: Very narrow roads, wiped out the corner of our fifth wheeler just getting around the park. Sites are very narrow and short. All large buses, fifth wheelers and vans struggled. Bar was booked out by locals on a lot of nights for footy finals so very rowdy when having dinner. Strong smell of sewerage down back of the park from sewerage plant. Supposed to be shutting down back section of park late 2009 to rectify.
Parking: At reception.

This is a very nice park, approx 15 mins drive to centre of town. We checked most of the other parks out and this was the best. There are 3 swimming pools, and lots of amenity blocks. At the rear of the park are the newer amenities which are excellent. In the front of the park there is road noise at night due to current road works, and at the rear there are occasionally slight smells from the in-house sewage plant, but this is scheduled for $1.9M upgrade in Nov 2009. We stayed near the front and had no problem with either roadwork or sewerage. The park is well cared for, with concrete slabs and grassed areas. Aircraft are really not a problem, we hardly heard more than 1 x plane per day, and this is only to be expected with the airport's vicinity in Darwin.

When we got to this park, they were having power outages 8 or 10 times every night. This was fixed after a week, and everyone who complained got their rate reduced to the unpowered rate for the applicable time. The park is right on the Stuart Hwy, sites at the front of the park get the highway noise, at the back you get the sewerage treatment plant smell. We wouldn't stay here again but would go back to Hidden Valley or try Lee Point. Friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($265 2A per week, powered, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were dirty, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, dump point, secure entry. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is open to the sun, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Well designed shower, with lowered wet area, shower curtain and a shelf for shampoo and other supplies used during showering. Reasonable bistro/bar in main pool area.
Dislikes: Sites at front get highway noise, all sites get noise from planes from nearby airport. Sites at back get smell from sewerage treatment plant. Amenities were insufficient to cope when a bus load of kids were in, and should have been cleaned more than once a day for the amount of use they got. Grossly inadequate number of washing machines, which were expensive at $4 a load, and domestic sized instead of large ones seen at most parks. Light cycle onto highway meant long waits to exit park at peak times. Insufficient bbqs, so a long way from some sites.
Added Touches: Bus to Mindil Markets, but it was pretty pricey.

Hidden Valley Tourist Park, Berrimah

25 Hidden Valley Rd. 10 mins drive S of Darwin CBD. Coming from Katherine on Stuart Hwy, turn left at Harvey Norman Store into Hidden Valley Rd. 600m down Hidden Valley Rd. Ph: 08 8984 2888 or 1300 727 937. Member FreeSpirt chain. No pets allowed.

Booked for 4 nights at an ensuite site and whilst the park has all the required facilities i.e. it has a pool, BBQ area, camp kitchen, small laundry, it is let down in a few areas. Firstly the lack of shade at the ensuite sites is a big issue, our un air conditioned van became quite hot in the middle of the day. The ensuite amenities are very basic with no shower wall nor curtain and very little shelving to place the usual items. Added to this was the continual use, by other vans close by, of air conditioners overnight and one in particular, 24 hours per day. The park can also be quite noisy from other sources, it is on the flight path of Darwin airport which has planes coming and going at all hours of the day and night and it is close to a speedway and the noise from events at night (Saturday night) can be quite loud. So summing up, the park can be comfortable if you get a good powered or unpowered (shady) site but in my view the park should be renamed "Exposed Valley" not "Hidden Valley". Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($38 2A per night, ensuite, shoulder season). Ensuite cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, camp kitchen, kiosk, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, claustrophobic park, not enough shade, no permanents. UC bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere. Clean pool. Suitable for overnighter, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Close to Darwin, secure park.
Dislikes: Lack of shade at the ensuite sites, ensuite sites cramped, use of air conditioners over night, park is on the flight path of Darwin airport and close to speedway

Likes: Very friendly staff. Sites well maintained. Gardens tropical. Onsite Cafe offering reasonably priced meals ($16.50 for roast & sweets) and entertainment was enjoyable.
Dislikes: waiting to use washing machines, same in most parks.
Added Touches: visitor pack with information on what to do in Darwin and surrounds

Report submitted by Travelling Tassies (2).

Manager's name is Noel & Gina Lyell. Ensuite sites have concrete slabs, premium sites have Eco slabs (compacted crushed dust covered in shadecloth) or powered grass with no slabs - like the idea of choice, depending on your circumstances. New Eco slabs are great idea, as can erect tents on them or tie down awnings with pegs (pegs go into shadecloth). Never seen them before. Some unpowered also have eco slabs. Not hard on your feet like cement & a lot cooler. Visited this same park in 2006 under different management & no comparison to this stay. Vastly improved, especially in the staff department & grounds. New managers have travelled few years on the road themselves (prior), so have good understanding of travelling public expectations. Also young & vibrant personalities. Good price compared to other parks in Darwin. We got a stay 7 pay 6 special on our ensuite site. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, van parking assistance provided by staff, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, very good value for money ($36.85 2A per night, ensuite, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, late checkout allowed (up to noon), good camp kitchen, kiosk, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry, van parking. Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. No playground. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, well maintained park.
Likes: Fantastic Staff, very friendly & helpful. Great atmosphere. Unbelievable landscaping - a lush tropical oasis. Extremely well maintained park. Modern ensuite sites for few extra dollars. Very roomy ensuites that have own laundry tub for hand washing with personal clothes line off our ensuite. Off the highway & sealed roads (no dust like other Darwin parks). Several prominent free-standing blackboards with what's happening in the park. e.g. happy hours, roast nights. Handwritten for personal touch & updated daily.
Dislikes: sites are tight, but enough room, just. Ensuite sites have no shade, powered sites have plenty shade (also plenty bird & bat poo). We opted for the poo free option with our own bathroom. Can't have shady trees & no birds I guess. Main amenities very tired, but plans to renovate 2009/10 wet season. Few more washing machines would have been nice. Quite a walk from ensuite site to laundry & uphill on the way back with the wet washing. Another smaller laundry at top of park, in area of ensuite sites would be easier. Not enough clothes line space at main amenities. Ok if you have ensuite site, as these have own personal clothes lines.
Added Touches: Happy hours are a heaps of fun, with personal touch added by managers hosting these events. Baby crocodiles, local snakes, tall stories, didgeridoo players & ferrero rochere chocolates for guests wearing red underpants. (LOL) Husband & wife managers are duo act for these & keep you very entertained. These two have a lot of energy & lots of funny stories to tell. On site bistro provided reasonable & tasty home style meals. Ten dollar Tuesday & roast nights (dinner & dessert $15) good value for money. Some nights live music at bistro (soft rock & country) or hilarious bush poetry performed by manager Gina.
Local Information: Tour information from reception better than what we got at Information Centre in town. Staff very knowledgeable on local area & will give lots of advice not only on tours, but also FREE things to do & see in Darwin.

Report submitted by Gay Nomads (1).

Manager's name is Noel & Gina Lyell. We had an ensuite site, the ensuite was pretty basic with no separate shower cubicle or even a curtain, so you had to mop up after your shower. There was no rubbish bin, but a reasonable shelf to unpack toiletries onto, and a good secure alcove area outside the actual bathroom with a laundry tub, that you could use to store stuff such as chairs. All ensuite sites had a concrete slab, but not powered sites. Ensuite sites were very small, with vans squeezed close together and cars mostly parked on the roadway. Park is well grassed, with watering done every day. Prices were on the high side even for Darwin, and went into the stratosphere during V8 weekend, although they did provide around-the-clock security during this weekend. There were always queues for the washing machines, which at $4 a load were quite expensive. The ensuite bathrooms had a private clothes line attached, which was very convenient. We wanted to book for 9 weeks but they would only take a booking for 4. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Price was as expected, reasonable value for money ($300 2A per week, ensuite, peak season). Water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Inadequate number of tourist sites, mostly unlevel sites, good night lighting, small sites, concrete annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, kiosk, dump point, secure entry. Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, family/friendly atmosphere, no permanents. Clean UC gas bbq (free), bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is shaded, kid-safe pool area, tables and chairs provided, toddlers catered for. Suitable for month or longer, suitable for families, well maintained park, park is considered kid-safe.
Likes: Clothes line at back of ensuite. Close to Darwin city.
Dislikes: Under flight path from nearby airport, so at times it sounded like planes were about to land on the roof. Inadequate number of washing machines. Small sites so you were very close to the neighbours.
Added Touches: 'Happy Hour' several nights a week - byo chair and drink, they provide entertainment, often just a chat about Darwin or NT from the hosts, sometimes things like a crocodile man or buffalo hunter. Also on-site bistro did cheap and reasonable meals, breakfast, lunch and dinner. Walking group several mornings a week, $2 included morning tea afterwards.

Situated in behind the Mobil Service Station on the west side of the Stuart Hwy, 26 kms S of Darwin. Ph: 08 8983 1026. Pets allowed. Charge of $2 per day for dog.

Stayed 7 nights $209.00 per week which included $2.00 per day for our dog. But we were not disappointed. Blain was on reception, and because it was so hot I asked him for a shady site with en-suite. Only one ensuite site was available, due to cancellation, so he told me to go and have a look. He does not charge extra for an en-suite because they are old (1970's) but are clean. He also offered us another shady site (site 59) and told us to check both out and let him know which we preferred. We chose site 59, right at the back of the park, backing onto the Manager's residence. This site was under enormous trees, lots of shade and lots of leaves, with a long concrete slab. It was quite close to the clean amenities block. Laundry was busy all day and most of the evening because park was full. The back of this park has lots of grassed and slab sites, mostly under shade and suitable for long rigs. Night lighting is adequate. Good shaded swimming pool. The front of this park is newer, lots of dusty sites, no night lighting at all, and the trees will provide lots of shade in a few years time. The en-suite sites (2 rows) are at the front of the park behind the office, quite close to each other, with lots of shade and look quite untidy. They are very close to the Stuart Hwy and Petrol station with grog shop, so very noisy. Coolalinga shopping centre is within walking distance and includes a Woolworths store. Because of the lovely large trees we did have some possum noise in the night but this was part of the "fun". We would have loved to stay another week but had to head towards home because of commitments. We would definitely stay here again and I would again ask for Site 59.

BIG4 Howard Springs Holiday Park, Howard Springs

170 Whitewood Rd. 23 kms S of Darwin. Turn off at Howard Springs signs, then turn off at first road on right. Just past BP Servo. Ph: 08 8983 1169 or 1800 831 169. BIG4 member. No pets allowed.

The park is very busy in the Dry Season in common with all other parks in the Darwin vicinity. I chose one of the new ensuite sites at the back of the park. These sites are rather small and very close together. The ensuite was entered by a steep narrow staircase without handrails. Absence of handrails for cabins and ensuites with steps is relatively common and makes these facilities hazardous for mobility impaired clientele. I would have been better off taking an ordinary powered site and using the ordinary amenities as the park's roads are relatively easily negotiable by mobility scooter or power chair, although care need to be taken at speed humps. The amenities building closest to the office was easily accessible and considering the intensive use it gets was in good condition. The park is 800m from the Howard Springs Shopping Centre which includes a pharmacist, medical centre, supermarket, bakery, newsagent and tavern. It is accessible by mobility scooter via the pathway on the opposite side of Whitewood Road to the park.

We have given a full report on this park earlier but returned a few weeks later and had an entirely different experience. We were originally given a very comfortable site with room for van, awning and car to be parked side by side. We returned one night to find new neighbours had been parked closer to our van which necessitated our car to be parked in front of our van but caused it to jut out onto the road. We approached management the following morning who said it was the fault of a wrongly positioned van further down the line that our site had to be narrowed. This happened three times during our stay, as our neighbours moved out, the incoming van was moved even closer to our van. By the time we left, the only way to park our car was to pull the awning in and park the car next to the van. Meanwhile everyone in our row still had room for car, awning and van side by side, even though they had shorter stays than us. As all vans are positioned onto sites by management, it seemed unfair that our stay was spoilt by their careless attitude. Their response was that we were lucky to get a site as it was peak season. We are BIG4 members and we had booked ahead.

Average staff friendliness. Good value for money ($32 2A, powered, peak season). We paid $28.80 because of BIG4 member. Inadequate number of amenities, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is very good, separate bathroom, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, very few annex slabs, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade. Clean pool, kid-safe pool area, toddlers catered for. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Quiet and shady. Good value for money.
Dislikes: Brand new amenities were all ensuite style and caused long queues in evening and morning. There was nowhere else to go just to go to the toilet. Long waits while people showered. Also inadequate number for sites in area - 10 ensuite units for over 100 sites. No tourist information offered and map of sites had to be requested. Only information on display was for costly tours.
Added Touches: Free bus to casino. Organised trip to Mindil Market and sunset on Thursdays. Sausage sizzle and other entertainments at a cost.
Local Information: Good location for Litchfield or Darwin city.
Roads: Excellent roads.

Manager's name is Ross and Viv Lavender. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Good value for money ($32 2A per night, powered, peak season). We paid $29 because of Member discount. Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to only some sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water - but not if busy, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation, disabled facilities. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate large motorhomes or 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, most sites are shaded, drive-through sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, disabled facilities, car wash, dump point, secure entry, van parking, book swap, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 3). Quiet, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. Good playground in good condition. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or more, well maintained park.
Likes: This park offers good value especially for a capital city as long as you don't mind the extra driving distance to CBD.
Dislikes: The amenities let this park down. Those in the older section have fixed shower nozzles that point directly into the change area making it impossible to keep it dry as there is no shower curtain. There is no place for toiletries in the shower recess and only one hook and small high shelf for towel etc. There were problems with water temperature fluctuations. The men's block got very muddy very quickly. The amenities in the newer section are nicely appointed unisex ensuite style. However they suffer from poor water pressure and temperature fluctuations too.
Added Touches: Three nights a week there is offered free entertainment, a didgeridoo information night and a slide show of local attractions. All worth attending. A free squash court is available with racquet hire available at the office.

A northern suburb of Darwin. Lee Point Rd. Off Stuart Hwy, turn into Bagot going away from town, turn right into McMillan, follow McMillan Road for several kms, and into Lee Point Rd. Ph: 08 8945 0535. Pets allowed, at manager's discretion, on leash at all times.

Don't know why they accept dogs as we were put right down the end of the park up against the pool fence where the yardman walked about 500m to the gate of the pool fence and came and took our extension cord and plugged it in. So when we left we had to do the same thing. We had no water, when we complained about it they said to come back in the morning and sort it. They suggested we go to their other park Koa Caravan Park. Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Poor value for money ($40 2A per night). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was inadequate hot water. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to some sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. Good laundry, no rec room, no camp kitchen, van parking, no wireless internet available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Vodaphone, reception quality was 3). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No bbqs, no playground. Clean pool is shaded. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Quite area and yet still relatively close to central Darwin
Dislikes: The hot water is appalling, 4 ensuites share 1 solar hot water system and there was never any at all in the mornings or after 5pm. They do not have gas or electric boosters and are located under 40ft high trees shading them all day. Even had to seek out communal showers despite having paid for an ensuite just to get a lukewarm shower. The trees provide roosting for hundreds of ibis and cockatoos that poo all over your car, regulars even bring carports to save the daily car washing.

McMillians Road (adjacent to airport). Ph: 08 8927 3500. Pets allowed, on leash at all times, bond applies.

We went to this park after Lee Point Village Resort. You have to go to Malak Caravan Park to book in as the 3 parks are owned by the one person. Moat sites have a basic ensuite (some have to share) but you either have shade and no hot water or no shade and solar hot water. Many permanents who aren't all that happy with the treatment they get from the owner but are hesitant to say anything. Unfriendly staff. Poor value for money ($40 2A per night, peak season). Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, ensuite sites available, adequate taps close by. You can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Too many permanents. No pool. Suitable for few days.
Likes: Having your own en-suite even though basic
Dislikes: Mixed in with the permanents so if they are up early for work you are too.

If you are travelling with your dog/s, this is the closest caravan park to central Darwin and attractions. Very convenient. Friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($40 2A per night, ensuite, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was inadequate hot water, separate bathroom. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate large motorhomes and 5th wheelers, annex slabs to most sites, shade to most sites, adequate taps close by, adequate sullage close by. No camp kitchen, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Quiet, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No playground. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: Very organized kerbed bays for van and car, concrete slab, clearly defined area of lawn for each bay. En-suites to all caravan bays, even though they are fairly basic.
Dislikes: If you don't like reversing your van this may not be for you. Deep kerbed bays with only a few inches clearance each side for wheels within kerb. No problems with trees or posts though. The ensuites are old and not too flash, but still welcome, although they have unboosted solar hot water only, so the water may not be hot when you want it, especially at night.

Apart from road noise and no hot water in your private ensuite this park could be considered (could be, not should be). Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints. Price was as expected, poor value for money. Water pressure is good. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, average sized sites, concrete annex slabs to most sites, shade to some sites, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry. Noisy, open & roomy park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. No bbqs. Clean pool. Suitable for a week or more, suitable for families, well maintained park.
Likes: Good sized sites that you can only reverse into, bitumen for the van with a concrete annex pad. There is a splade kerb on the pad so you need park your van wheel right next to it if you rely on an external step or stool for van access. The ensuite (just post 1974 era) has a loo, wall basin, mirror if you are lucky, shower rose that won't stay up or that shoots water like a cannon straight to the door over your head, there was no shower curtain or rod to hang one on. There is also a laundry tub and washing machine tap & alcove, this proved to be a great storage area. Rubbish is collected from your site 3 times a week. Semi permanents in park were very friendly and their sites were very neat - clearly park proud people. Check laundry notice board for in-park services by those whom stay there. Dog noise not an issue.
Dislikes: Road noise started before 6am and was still going at midnight with hoons. Plenty of shade but that hides the solar hot water panels - no hot water - choose your site with shade or hot water; you can't have both as ensuites do not have electric boosters. Do not rely on advice from park office staff about this, go and check your potential site for hot water so that you are not disappointed, or you are not told by office staff to move to another site after you have travelled for hours and hours and then spent the last of your strength setting up, or told by office staff to find someone staying within the park with a ladder and climb it yourself to clean your solar panels to see if that helps (expect no hot water if you don't check then you won't be disappointed). Aircraft noise from the adjacent airport was not really an issue but could concern some. No camp kitchen. No bbq that could be found. Park charges for power - about $3.00 per day extra without air con be used
Parking: bitumen parking nose or tail in front of your van
Local Information: Try to visit Parap Markets on Saturday morning (no dogs allowed so park opposite under trees in church owned yard for a gold coin donation) and the Mindil markets on either Thursday or Sunday arvo (no dogs allowed but plenty of shade to park under as evening falls, no fee). Dog sitters at airport well worth the money if needed, very clean, safe & friendly.

Likes: Friendly staff and long term stayers (not permanents); helpful advice; Sunday night BBQ by staff for gold coin donation for charity
Dislikes: Too near adjacent tavern (noisy for sites close by); slab positioning too close to some trees, making it very difficult to park large van off the slab (assistance necessary on several sites)
Parking: Somewhat confused pre-booking parking, as near tavern, fuel bowsers and general purpose shop (not under lease by caravan managers)
Added Touches: Many regular patrons for northern winter period; extended 'family' atmosphere

Manager's name is Mark. Friendly staff. This is rated 4 Star, however we and a lot of others didn't think so. They have some old amenities that have shower cubicles where you need to dress in the shower area because the dressing area is so small. When we arrived there was a large wet area near the rear washing lines. There was also a terrible smell. Speaking to other caravaners we agreed that it could be a leaking septic. A few of us asked Mark to fix the problem and were told that it was just because they had such a lot of rain during the wet season that the water was unable to get away. A week and a half later they had someone come in and put pipes in. The wet area remained as did the smell. Friendly staff, bad staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($30.00 2A per week, powered, peak season). Amenities are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is reasonable, water pressure is bad, there was adequate hot water, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, some level sites, good night lighting, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Basic laundry, basic camp kitchen, car wash, secure entry, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, claustrophobic park, plenty of shade, a few permanents. UC bbq, congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area lighting, seating provided at bbq. Basic playground in average condition. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for overnighter.
Likes: Friendly owners.
Dislikes: No soap in the bathrooms as well as small shower cubicles. Smell of septic at the rear where we were. Highway traffic noise.
Added Touches: Free sausage sizzle. Bus to casino in the city.

Individual unisex toilets/showers, worked well when you did not need the torch when the power went out. Very friendly staff, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Reasonable value for money ($28.80 2A with TT Disc per night, peak season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided, dry change area, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Likes: That it was out of town and there was a tavern and store at the entrance of park
Dislikes: Very tight sites and less than a foot between slab of neighbours site and our van. Power went out regularly which we believe caused our fridge to blow and defrost previous day's shopping
Parking: Could accommodate 2 rigs ok, could park across the road if full
Added Touches: Sausage sizzle Sunday nights peak season. No problems with washing the van and offer of their ladder.
Local Information: Tavern on the doorstep with good specials and a cold beer

Manager's name is Lyn &Stan /Jenny & Mark. This park is well run ,it has unisex toilets/showers which I thought worked well, didn't have to wait for use even in high season when we were there. We paid $29.70 because of TT discount. Likes: We liked most aspects of the park, particularly the close attention given to us by the Managers makes our stay very pleasant.
Dislikes: This park is the last pet friendly park in Darwin, despite this, many dog owners failed to adequately control their animals. Whilst we like dogs, we are not particularly excited about owners allowing their dogs to relive themself outside our van. Unfortunately there are too many signs up. It appears to us that the signs are designed to convey some basic rules, which if followed would make life pleasant for all living in such a small environment. Despite this, people choose to deliberately ignore common sense directions to the detriment of all patrons.
Added Touches: Free sausage sizzle, live music, free bus to casino, croc show.
Local Information: Excellent meals at the Virginia Tavern and Sokes Wharf.

Manager's name is Rose & Gary. This is a really lovely friendly caravan park at a very reasonable price; pet friendly and also very busy (no vacancies sign out a lot of the time). I think it must be one of the best maintained and cleaned parks we've stayed in. The top amenities are older and the lower ones are the demountable type with a very high roof covering male block, laundry and female blocks but all blocks are checked and tidied up several times a day as well as the usual 'close down' period. Most sites are shaded with the top ones quite tropical and a lot of the bottom ones have lovely big annex slabs. I had noted previous comments about the signs around the park before arriving here but feel they are mostly 'common sense' signs and at least you see them and read them whereas a lot of parks hand you a long page of rules which a lot of residents don't even bother to read. Some of the park residents are long term but not permanents as such. Very friendly staff, good staff response to complaints, staff offered tourist advice, staff helped us at the site, staff explained park layout and facilities. Very good value for money ($29 2A, peak season). We paid $27 because of seniors discount. Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, were clean, condition is good, water pressure is good, soap provided, exhaust fans/good ventilation. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, sites will accommodate medium to large vans, annex slabs to some sites, shade to most sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate taps close by. Good laundry, basic rec room, good camp kitchen, kiosk, dump point, secure entry, book swap available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 4). Peaceful, open & roomy park, plenty of shade. Clean UC gas bbq (free), congenial bbq area atmosphere, bbq area .lighting, seating provided at bbq. Clean pool is shaded, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for month or longer, well maintained park.
Likes: The willingness of Gary & Rose to help out patrons. After originally booking for 4 nights, due to a medical condition we needed to extend our stay a few times and Rose somehow managed to juggle bookings around to accommodate us.
Dislikes: It would be difficult for a disabled person to easily get to the amenities from some sites
Parking: You need to park in the street before entering as there is a touch card boom gate
Added Touches: Peak season - Wednesday night was free sausage sizzle in the central grassed area. Residents could set up tables and sell their handcraft items etc, barista or deserts. There was also a croc demonstration.
Local Information: The 15 minute Sea Cat ride over to Mandorah Pub makes for a lovely day out with a reasonably priced meal overlooking the beautiful azure blue Darwin Harbour but check out the departure times before setting out for Cullen Bay.

Managed by The Pettys. Park lovely and clean and shady. Beautiful trees. Amenities clean. Signs everywhere for everything. Kids and Grey Nomads in pool together don't mix. Dogs allowed but very strict. Good park for overnight or a few days but not the best park for families as no playground. Would be okay in quiet season. Reasonable value for money. Amenities are close to most sites, were clean, condition is reasonable, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water. Basic laundry, no rec room, no wireless internet available. Dirty bbq. Dislikes: The lack of shade down the bottom half of the caravan park
Parking: Parking for book in best on road
Added Touches: There was one pay for what you eat and one free sausage sizzle while we were there.

Likes: the amenities block
Dislikes: advertising on the internet was vastly different to the actual sites, no grassy sites or shade sites available; I had booked and had deposit debited from my credit card 6 months in advance and was firstly offered a camping site, that was wet, sprinkler still operating, mud everywhere and my husband had to insist on a better site. Site was dirt, uneven, on a corner and the water truck had to keep the dust down by watering the roadway; noisy as a metal crushing plant was across the road and operated from 7am until 9pm at night

We stayed there for 1 night in a tiny and unleveled site without water tap, while there were quite some better sites available that night. The next day we asked for a better site, the staff made no effort to help us, she only offered us a smaller one near the camp kitchen; even though there were obviously more sites available. So that gave us no choice but to leave. Unfriendly staff, bad staff response to complaints, staff explained park layout and facilities. Poor value for money ($38 2A per night, peak season). Amenity number would not cope in peak times, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, soap provided. Likes: Close to the Darwin town centre.
Dislikes: Some sites are quite small and crowded; the reception is unfriendly; ground is dusty.

Manager's name is Desley Facey. Cleaning of the amenity blocks were totally ridiculous at this park. The cleaning times were starting at approx 6.30am and finishing approx 8.30am. The only toilets available to the masses were two disabled toilets. One disabled lady I was talking to, paid extra money for a key to use the disabled toilets. She was unable to use the normal toilets due to the fact that she required the safety rails for when she used the toilet and the shower. Unfortunately many inconsiderate tenants occupied the disabled bathroom like it was their personal toilet and shower, which left lines of people waiting outside or having to walk quite a way down to the other amenity blocks. Several of the tenants approached the manager of the park to see if the times could be changed and she was not interested. Unfortunately the cleaners were copping it and this was totally unfair. Average staff friendliness, average staff response to complaints. Reasonable value for money ($36.00 2A per night, powered, shoulder season). Amenity number was adequate to cope with the number of people, are close to most sites, cleanliness was average, condition is good, water pressure is good, there was adequate hot water, extra charge for shower, soap provided, paper towels/dryer provided. Adequate number of tourist sites, mostly level sites, poor night lighting, sites will accommodate small to medium vans, very few annex slabs, shade to some sites, hard to negotiate into site, adequate sullage close by. Basic laundry, no rec room, disabled facilities, dump point, secure entry, van parking, wireless internet is available, you can use your mobile wireless (carrier used was Telstra, reception quality was 5). Noisy, open & roomy park, too much shade, too many permanents. No playground. Clean pool, tables and chairs provided. Suitable for a week or more.
Likes: After moving for the fourth time within the park, we finally were given a bay up in 12th Avenue which had a nice lawn area. The public bus that was outside of the park.
Dislikes: Dirty dusty roads, lack of lighting, broken slabs, tight bays for reversing van into. Pool was a nice place to visit, however much too small to accommodate everyone. We usually stayed away from pool when the children were using it - not big enough for everyone. Toddler pool would be helpful for mums and dads with little ones.
Parking: The road that ran parallel to the entrance of the park was continuously blocked up with cars, boats, other caravans waiting to get into the park.
Added Touches: No added touches that I knew about.
Local Information: We thoroughly enjoyed Darwin, lots to see, enjoyed eating out, people very friendly.
Roads: Roads excellent, if roads were bad, there was usually roadworks taking place anyway.
