Silence is AVYM latest production currently in development
for 2007-2008

“Silence”
is an all women’s play which unpacks stories and narratives which are
not often seen in the Australian mainstream. Hoa Pham’s exploration of
generational issues and cultural conflict comes from the perspective of
a second generation Vietnamese-Australian with a unique feminist
viewpoint. The depiction of Buddhist rituals and beliefs and the
experiences of first generation women in English will inform the
non-Vietnamese audience of Vietnamese culture and history. What we hope
to achieve with “Silence” is to open up an aspect of the Vietnamese
community that is not often examined for discussion and empower women to
speak up about their experiences.
