Activities of the
Conservation Committee of the
Avicultural Federation of Australia

Husbandry Manuals

The Conservation Committee has published husbandry manuals for the Bleeding Heart Pigeon and the Pictorella Finch, and husbandry manuals for the Regent Parrot, Superb Parrot, Swift Parrot, and Black-breasted Button-quail are being prepared.

Facility Accreditation

The Conservation Committee is implementing a Facility Accreditation Project. The objective of Facility Accreditation is to raise avicultural standards, and to provide a pool of aviculturists of recognised proficiency for involvement in captive breeding programs through such bodies as Zoo TAG's, the Exotic Bird Committee, and wildlife authorities.

Species Management

The objective of Species Management is to preserve the genetic diversity of captive populations of threatened species, especially where these populations are themselves low. Species Management means that birds will be available to future generations to keep and enjoy. Species Management is achieved through studbooks and breeding registers.
