Australis 100

Traverse logo
Icon sized portrait of Simon Kirby

Simon Kirby is the author of this site's graphics, photos, text and code. He is 32, lives in Melbourne, and bears a startling resemblance to President Flappo when he wears a cheap pair of safety glasses.

He has never owned a pet but he does have his own WWW home. And, yes, he does do multimedia for a living.

Thank you

To my current hosts, Vicnet, for their generosity and support. (Nick, the tip was invaluable!)

To my once bountiful employers, the late Empire Ridge, for the server space and the after hours access to resources.

To my once-were-workmates and now-are-friends: John Brand, Steve Taylor (for his constant interest), Will Trumble (who taught me much about graphics by example), and Bryce Coxhead, for all his timely technical assistance.

To my best friends: Simone Foong, Andrew Macleod, Vicki Simon and Simon Anderson, for all their valuable feedback and for the on-line poofreaders, er, proofreaders-par-excellence: Steve Taylor, Katrina Ben, Doug Palmer and Alison Wain.

And to Roland Gallois, who inadvertently set the ball rolling two years ago, when he didn't film my mockumentary script, "Journey to Australis".

This update has resulted in every page of the 100 being illustrated, the addition of a "news" section as well as the inclusion of Javascript roll-overs for all the links.

Beyond the creation of a weekly Australis Bulletin (in progress) that will live on a list-server, the site is now closed. Enjoy.

Disclaimer

Australis 100 is a work of fiction. Every country, state, town, organization, individual, product or service mentioned is fictional and any resemblance to actual countries, states, towns, organizations, individuals, products or service is purely coincidental.

This work reflects the personal views and humour of its author and in no way is it ever likely to represent the view of his employers even if he was self-employed.

Compatibility

Throw away your current browsers and use Opera - a faster neater browser that fits on a floppy. This site looks fine on it, as does the rest of the internet.

This site has also been tested on NSCA Mosaic 2.0.1 for Macintosh Power PC, Netscape 2.0-4.0 (for Macintosh and Windows) and Microsoft Internet Explorer 2.0-4.0 (for Macintosh and Windows). It can best be viewed in Thousands of Colours and by version 3.0 browsers (and later) because it makes extensive use of the <font FACE> HTML tag that allows you to specify font s.

The font s specified are:

  • Arial
  • Helvetica
  • Geneva
  • san-serif

It has also been designed to accommodate Non-Frames capable browsers as well as including ALT tags behind all graphics. Text menus are supplied for those whose browsers don't support Client Side Image Maps for the navigation menus. (The menu frames are resizeable with text links to be found under the menu graphic.)

[Opera! The browser that was made for you!]

Software

This site would not have been possible without an extraordinary text editor called BBEdit by BareBones Software.

Linking

This site is pretty much a WWW cul-de-sac. If you want to put a link to it on your site, feel free to use one of these annoying graphics or just cut and paste the following code:
