Here is a selection of photos from this year's race. I hope you can capture some of the excitement from viewing them. Are you tough enough to take the challenge yourself?
The field ponders what lies in store in the next 24 hours as they toe the
starting line.
Sandra Brown (C36) of England is very pleased to finish her sixth 100 mile
event for the year. It's a new Australian Open record of just 19:14:56 for
Sandra. And she hardly raised a puff.
Herbert Newbacher (C37) of Germany raises an arm in acknowledgement after
doing a personal best 100 time of 21:03:07. That's a good follow
up to his finish in the recent British Centurions 100 miler in London.
Jill Green (C38) of England is perhaps the most excited and happy of all
the finishers. For Jill, it is the latest in a long career of ultra-distance
walks and is a personal best time of 21:15:35.
Gerald Manderson (C31) of New Zealand backs up for a fine fourth place after
his win last year. Although Gerald was only a couple of minutes slower than
last year, he had been well ahead of his time early but paid the penalty
for his enthusiasm. On this occasion, it was still a great time fo 21:39:33.
No wonder he looks so pleased.
Robin Whyte (C29) of Canberra last did it in 1996 and he is pleased to finally
get a second Centurion badge with a fine performance. His time this year
was 21:41:20 and came after a very even walk.
Carol Baird (C39) of Canberra finishes fresh as a daisy after shattering
the Australian Residential records for 100 km, 100 miles and 24 hours. Her
100 mile time was a world class 22:16:43. Will she be back again next
year to try to improve on her performance?
Gerrit de Jong (C40) completes a business like finish to yet another
100 miler in 22:51:24. Gerrit warmed up to this one with a finish in the
recent British Centurions race. It was his 18th finish in that event in a
career spanning the last 20 years.
