March Meeting 2008

Presidents Piece

Presidents Piece I hope you have all found somewhere a little cooler over the last couple of weeks, it certainly has been a hot spell and if Mondays Sit and Sew is any indication not much Patchwork and Quilting is being done, some of the ladies including me were happy to just sit and chat . I had taken along a customers Quilt to sew down the binding but I found it just to uncomfortable to have a double bed quilt draped over my knees. Shirley Lodington conducted a Kaleidoscope cutting workshop and it is always interesting to see the different fabrics people bring along for this kind of workshops. Ros Devine had a bright tropical fish fabric ,Kathleen Ooi had fabric with galloping horses which when cut and arranged together in a circle looked amazing.I look forward to seeing them when they are finished. The beautiful florals are always interesting when this technique is used.Shirley will also do this workshop for our Wed night sit n sew group. Elsewhere in the newsletter Prue had done a brief report on our trip to Paynesville,I would like to thank on behalf of our Members, Colleen S Robinson for her generous donation of many many many metres of fabric for us to use for our Gift Quilt programmed and other charitable work that our association is involved with. The generosity of Quilters  to me is always inspiring. I look forward to another visit to pick up what we were unable to fit in.   With my business I have a lot of customers who bring along their first Quilt for me to quilt for them and nine times out of ten they are very apologetic that it is not very good,I am able to show them my first efforts and ensure them that I am not a Member of the Quilt Police . My next comment is "Did you enjoy the process of making the Quilt and are they generally happy with the end result" and again nine times out of ten the answer is yes.In my experience we all approach our passion differently, some will like all their points to be accurate, some are happy if it just fits together ,some would never use that bright orange with that pink others think the orange is the zinger that is just right, some will try to achieve 10 to 12 stitches per inch when hand Quilting  others will be happy to have it quilted and finished at last .Whatever  type of quilter you are be proud of your achievements . The Dear Jane Quilts remind me that although some are being hand pieced, some machine pieced, some needle turned appliquéd,some button hole appliquéd some traditional colours some not so traditional are all stunning . It will indeed be a beautiful display of creativity and diversity when they are all hung together on completion.
