February 2009 Meeting
Presidents
Piece
I would like on behalf of all Members to send our kind thoughts and best wishes to all those affected by the recent
disasters that have occurred in our country since we last met. We have truly been tested by the elements. There has been an
overwhelming response for donations and from all reports Quilters from all over the world as well as all Australian states have
rallied and are organizing Quilting Bees to support those who have lost so much. At our Committee meeting, we discussed
how our Association could best assist .We decided that as a group we would heed the requests from several Charity groups
that are all overloaded with donations and wait and see what we could possibly do to assist in the future, when things are a
little more settled.
If any Member has or would like to make a Quilt, I have the names and contact people of a number of
groups who are already coordinating the distribution of donated Quilts. We also talked about the fantastic C.F.A volunteers
who give so much of their time not only fighting the fires but also have to do much of their own fundraising to replace
damaged and lost equipment and if they could possibly do with our support. If I have the support of the Members I will make
contact with the C.F.A when the time is right, to speak to them and see if we can help in any way.
ON the subject of the giving and making of Gift Quilts and our on-going commitment in supporting those in need ,we
are looking for a new Gift Quilt Coordinator as Shirley Lodington has advised me that due to personal commitments that she
will not be able to take over as coordinator; if any one would like to step up and coordinate this vital role please let me know
at the next meeting or if you are unable to attend please phone me on 98734371. I would be so pleased to hear from you.
We
also need a new Library Convener. Helen Buultjens, who has volunteered in this role for the last 6 years has also advised me
that she would like someone to take over from her. Both these positions do take some extra commitment, however we have
many volunteers roistered on to help in the Library, but we do need someone to ensure that it all works smoothly and as a
bonus you get to choose and buy all the latest books. Please give some thought as to if and how you can help our Association.
Kind Regards, Pam
