PRESIDENT’S PIECE

In the lead up to our Biennial Members’ Exhibition I was fortunate enough to visit many Quilting activities with a dual purpose in mind. The first was to advertise the Exhibition and the second was to support the various Quilting groups that I know work so hard to stage
these events. As mentioned in the last Pres Piece I visited Echuca and called into their meeting, also on the way up to Echuca we visited numerous Quilting shops and was also able to leave brochures. Since then I have attended two Quilt-ins; the first was at Essendon, where they were also celebrating a milestone, their 20th Birthday. It was very well attended and I again purchased fabrics and trims to go in the superannuation fund stash. The guest speaker was Gail Macklin from Sebastopol who spoke about the buying trips that she does in all different places including France and America. She was very entertaining, the show and tell, as always, was beautiful and we very much enjoyed the day along with some other A.Q.A Members. The following Sat, we travelled to Werribee for another Quilt In. Again the hall was filled with Quilters from far and wide, again 4 traders were in attendance, this time I resisted the urge to purchase as I wanted to save my money for our own Exhibition Traders. The guest speaker was Helen Godden from Canberra, once again a very entertaining speaker and her quilts took my breath away, especially the one featuring Flamingos. (Those who have been to my home will know of my Flamingo passion).
I have always admired her work that I have seen published, but to see them close up was amazing. I spoke to Helen re the possibility of her being one of our Symposium tutors.
I also learnt a new Quilting term. A lady who I was speaking to said she had a PhD in Quilting. I was surprised to hear that one could get a degree in Quilting until she told me it stood for PROJECTS HALF DONE. I will use this term myself when my non quilting friends
inquire as to why I am making another Quilt. My quilting friends never ask this question.
As the Exhibition was only two days ago as I write this, I have not had the chance to do a full report, however I would like to thank all those who supported us in many ways. I will have a full report in the next newsletter in the meantime I hope you enjoy the coloured photographs
of some of the Quilts at the Exhibition in this newsletter.
That’s all for now, Kind Regards, Pam
P.S Don't forget to give some thought to putting your hand up for the 2009/2010 Committee
