Presidents Piece
Isn't life full of wonderful surprises?. Following my story about the beautiful Yo-Yo quilt that I came across at the
Flowerdale Quilt and Craft Fair on the Queens Birthday weekend I am pleased to report that A.Q.A have become the
temporary guardians of this quilt. There are some repairs to be made and of course I would like us to be able to research the
history of the Quilt. From discussions with some members at yesterday’s Sit and Sew a number of the fabrics appear to be
from the 1950 or early 60's, some as fresh as the day they were sewn together, some a little faded. The Quilt overall is in very
good condition, very clean with no musty smell at all. When the ladies from Flowerdale have got back on their feet and are
ready the Quilt will be returned to them. They are looking for a suitable venue for it to be displayed, when that happens. In
the meantime I am sure it will provide our members with the opportunity to stroll down memory lane as they pick out various
fabrics that are familiar to them.
Our Annual Quilt In was a lovely day ,we had about 125 in attendance ,one lady from Tasmania who was lucky enough
to be in Melbourne for the weekend and one lady from the Blue Mountains visiting family also joined us. Thank you to all who
helped make this such a successful event.
As the months fly by at an ever increasing speed now might be the right time to bring up the subject of how you can
support our Association. Our A.G.M is fast approaching and we will need Committee Members to replace some of the current
ones who are either stepping down because they have served the maximum fours years on the Committee or those who for
personal reasons will not be renominating. Please consider volunteering some time to ensure that our Association continues to
provide the opportunity for Quilters to learn, meet and support each other in our chosen passion. Please call me or speak to
me at the next meeting if you would be willing to support our Association.
Thank you to all those who attended the July General Meeting for their understanding and help when we had to finish
the meeting earlier than normal ,due to the Church being needed for a Funeral. It must have seemed a bit chaotic to those
visiting for the first time; hopefully it will not happen again and it was better to finish a bit earlier than the request I had from
the Church to cancel the meeting altogether.
Of course the problem with such a short meeting was that a number of things that I needed to mention were
inadvertently overlooked. Firstly, the need to appoint a Convener for our Biennial Symposium and form a sub Committee. I will
be asking for volunteers at the August General meeting and although the Symposium is not held till Sept 2010, Tutors need to
be appointed as soon as possible as some are already committed to teach elsewhere years ahead . If you have any
suggestions for tutors and or classes please jot them down on a piece of paper or let me know so we can try and provide what
Members are interested in . Another thing that has been on my mind is AQIPP,if we want this to happen again we need you to
make it so; please let me know your thoughts .
On a personal note I attended the opening of the P's and Q's exhibition recently. A change of venue for them also at
Gennazano in Kew, it was a lovely opening, well attended and a wonderful display of members’ work including the members’Challenge. I know a lot of our members visited over the 4 days and I am sure appreciated all the Quilts on display.
Kind Regards Pam
