Gift Quilts
One of the ongoing activities of the AQA is the making and distribution
of small bed quilts to various charities. Many completed quilt tops
are donated by members. Other quilt tops are basted, quilted and
bound at Gift Quilt Days using batting and backing fabric provided
by the AQA. Members bring their sewing machine, irons and ironing
boards to the day as well as a plate of lunch to share. The completed
quilts are handed to the designated charity at a general meeting
Gift Quilt Days are announced in our newsletter, The Quilters
Patch, and in the Yearly
Diary.
Previous Gift Quilt Days
In 2002, AQA's gift quilt coordinator, Jean Baddams, was very busy
organising gift quilts to give to several organisations. The quilts
made in the first half of the year were given to S.H.A.R.C. (Self
Help Addiction Rehabilitation Centre) as well as to some to elderly
nursing home residents who were losing their sight. In the second
half of the year, quilts made by the AQA were given to Odyssey House.
All quilts were gratefully accepted at our general meetings.
