Quilt In 2006
Congratulations Australian Quilters Association
What a wonderful response we had to our Quilt-in 2006, the first one we have held for over eight years, Ladies from all over Victoria came to join us and helped to make it a great day. The Spa Quilters were the first through the door which was great to see, the ladies expressed their happiness with the day so we must have done something right.
Through out the day many Door prizes were given out (more than eighty in all),there was the Raffle Quilt was won by Lisa Fong one of our own members, Lisa was quite happy with the quilt as she had just bought many of the fabrics to use in a quilt but will now make a matching bag to hold the quilt ,well done Lisa ,there were three other prizes, a Debbie Mumm Book, and matching fabric, a lovely Japanese bag donated by Kimono House and a years subscription to AQA for twelve months.
During the day we held two show and tell segments, the first one in the morning consisted of the Quilts back from our challenge with America, in the afternoon we had the biggest and most wonderful collection of quilts to show, it was outstanding, Denise wonders if she will get any feeling back in her arms after holding up so many Quilts.
Our Guest speaker was Jan Macfayden from Kialla in Shepparton, What can one say about a truly wonderful and inspirational lady, the quilts she makes for charity, mostly overseas are not just the usual smaller quilts, but large as well and not just nine patch or squares etc but patterns of all descriptions. Jan managers to churn out at least forty quilts a month, if not more she was a wonderful speaker, and answered a lot of questions from the members. When Jan has a batch of Quilts to send off she pays for this herself therefore it was decided by AQA to take a box around for donations to help with some of the postage, Prue collected over $400.00 which was a great effort. This was handed to Jan who was most appreciative.
We hade our special Quilts hanging around the walls creating a wonderful atmosphere, as well as the lovely pots of pansies that Prue organized through a friend of hers, thanks to him for supplying them at cost prise, they made the hall look lovely, this was another brilliant idea of Ellen’s, this woman is amazing, the ideas just keep on coming and her work in organizing the door prizes, wrapping them, all apart from her catering skills, Ellen all of your hard work was appreciated by all at the meeting and especially myself, thankyou.
The dilly bags made by all were a great hit, thanks to all who made them in may varied and wondrous colours. Our Five traders had a big part in making the day a success as was the hard working committee, and a few members, well done for your commitment to this, it was perfect day. Come on 2007, thank you all
