| The Puffing Billy
Preservation Society manages the Puffing Billy
Railway which is owned and operated by the Emerald
Tourist Railway Board. The 24km line is one of
two surviving lines of the four 762mm (2ft-6in) gauge lines built in Victoria around the turn of the century. Since the restoration of the first section of line in 1962, millions of passengers have enjoyed the ride through cool fern gullies and forest country of the Dandenong Ranges.
Puffing Billy runs between Belgrave and
Gembrook in the heart of the Dandenong Ranges.
Puffing Billy was the first heritage railway
to be saved in Australia and is the
third oldest Heritage railway in the
world. Only two Heritage railways
in Wales are older.
