MINOR RULESSome rules and regulation is required for racing to be competitive and interesting. There are so many manufacturers (past and present) that it would be impossible to formulate a standard over all without excessive detail. Then the problem of effectively policing these standards arises. Aspendale Raceway works on the KISS principle with very little rules and a reliance on participant's adherence to the spirit of the days racing. This keep it simple approach means that everyone should be able to run almost any car in some type of race (class). There are 3 layers of car classes, structured reflecting cost, availability and performance with the prominent manufacturers (Scalextric, SCX, Ninco, Fly) dominating. The 3 layers being PREMIER, SECONDARY and SPONSERED. |
| Formula 1 Mag | Scalextric Dominate |
| Rally Non Mag | SCX Dominate |
| Le Mans/Sports Mag | Ninco Dominate |
| Le Mans/Sports Non Mag | Scalexric, Fly, SCX,Ninco Dominate |
| Le Mans/Sports 60/70s Mag | Fly Dominate |
| Dominate cars must be Stock Boxed Standard. No modifications to improve performance except gluing motor and wheel bearings in position. Painting, oiling, replacing brushes, guide and lead wires, wheels, tyres, body mounting, cleansing /gripping agents dependant on the participants spirit to the days racing.
Dominate cars can establish lap records during qualifying and racing. Only Dominate cars can break this record during a race. ALL other cars will be disqualified. Other cars within half a second of lap record during race will be deemed to be racing outside the spirit of the days racing. Other cars include any representative model either manufactured or scratchbuilt.
Secondary Class rules same as per Premier Class. However due to higher costs, poor availability of parts and variations in production the Stock Boxed Standard does not apply (current motors, tyres, guides, etc sometimes just have to be used). Dominate cars cannot have modifications except gluing motor and wheel bearing. Only Dominate cars can break lap record. ALL other cars will be disqualified. Other cars include any representative model either manufactured or scratchbuilt. This is a freer class group which requires a greater commitment to race within the spirit while also allowing a great choice of car (even detuning or serious modification of other cars). This is anything goes. Whatever the Host or Sponsor decides. However there is a precondition that everyone can participate. The Host or Sponsor has an obligation to provide a competitive car if a participant requires one. This class gives all the opportunity to implement an idea. The cars that run on the Aspendale Slot Racing Club circuit range form an assortment of scratchbuilts to an assortment of different manufacturers. As long as the car is a close representative model (any material) with a driver. The major manufacturers (Scalextric, SCX, Ninco, Fly) are all well catered for and provide the majority of cars raced. Refer class details. However there is encouragement to run other notable brands. These include MRRC (Airfix), Pink-Kar, Pro-Slot, Protec, Bum Slot, Reprotec, Carrera, Cartrix, Polistil, Team Slot, Ozrace and the Classic brands of the sixties including Revell, Monogram, Strombecker, Tamiya, K&B Aurora, AMT, Atlas, IMC, Cox, Eldon, Auto-Hobbies, Riggan, Lindberg, VIP, etc. Parma womps with narrowed width and trimmed guide are also ran but just as a special event. Scratchbuilts are quite popular with the majority being hard plastic bodies from the main model makers. Clear painted bodies are also used. A ready supplies available from Bruce Paterson in NSW. Bruce also supplies quality decals. Check his net site. Resin Bodies are also ran with John Bacon in SA being a sauce. Ozrace provide a fine representative model of the Australian Supercars. If you wish make up your own mould and pour the resin yourself. The chassis for the scratchbuilts can be anything from a manufacturer in plastic, brass, steel, aluminum or completely handmade. Although not a prequisite for racing at Aspendale Raceway it is encouraged that participates join The Australian Scalextric Racing and Collecting Club. This organisation provides access to information regarding all facets of mainly 1/32 scale slot car interests through a booklet called Club Lines and a website. Highly recommended. After racing and collecting for many years it soon becomes apparent that all of us have differing aspirations and expectations towards the Slot Car Scene. Aspendale Raceway attempts to be as flexible as possible towards rules cars and racers/collectors. The numbers of classes are keep to a minimum (13 currently) and allows movement of same cars (with little modifications). Eg Scalextric Cadillac could complete in 4 classes. This certainly helps the budget racer/collector. Also the novice racer/collector has the opportunity to be competitive by modifying or running Other cars above lap record times while still racing in the spirit of the event. Track knowledge, car tuning, driving technique are all important when running for lap record times with the Dominate cars per classes. This can be equaled out by Other cars running good consistent laps. Aspendale Raceway is happy to promote any style of racing and is always prepared to offer information regarding slot racing. Check our links to other sites and feel free to email us. Send us a photo or idea. What to race socially or with highly structured rules in a very competitive atmosphere. HO, 1/32 or 1/24. There are plenty of options in Victoria. Although Aspendale is a private track, anyone is welcome to have a run in a socially friendly atmosphere. Currently there are a number of tracks in Victoria (rural and city) of various types devoted to 1/32 scale racing. It has been my experience that the owners of these tracks are quite prepared to share their use and offer reliable information regarding their construction. There are more tracks in the pipeline. Racers regularly buy and sell cars and equipment and if asked have no hesitation in offering further advice. Interstate the Slot Car Scene is very healthy with almost anything you what available in Australia at a price. |
