ARTS ALIVE PGM 40 - 2004 TX: 4:04 Eastern Time, 4 Oct. 2004 THIS PROGRAM IS 55' 50" WITH A NATURAL BREAK AT 30' 01" Hi and welcome to Arts Alive, your weekly arts and culture current affairs radio...I'm VINCENT O'DONNELL *I'm JESS MYLES* and I'M SEAN KENNEDY This week* We had planned to bring you the fourth and concluding interview on arts and cultural policy, this one with Senator, the Hon. Rod Kemp, Minister for Arts and Sport. However, the Minister cannot make time for the interview. We are disappointed that we have not been able to provide further balance to our coverage, but we are more disappointed that the Minister for the Arts did not feel that you, voters with a particular interest in arts and cultural affairs, were worth addressing. We understand from Senator Helen Coonan's office that the Coalition Arts policy will be released this week, in time for the election but not in time for much examination or debate. Our Election Special coverage is at www.artsaliveradio.com This week then* A musician* an actor and a writer head the senate ticket for the Your Voice Party* Thirty years of volunteer labour rewarded by the publication of a searchable index of pub records* and the once great gold rush town of Cue* in Western Australia's Murchison district* gears up for the annual QFest* complete with the specially commissioned drag act* the Queens of Murchison. And our guest is theatre director Kate Cherry. Her most recent production is Take Me Out* by US playwright RICHARD GREENBERG. Some people read it as a theatrical response to 9/11* but with all the spunky-trunks on stage* that message was lost on me. And Nina-Marie will review Letters To Ali. NEWS: (approx. 4.00) Ends approx. 5.20 This election is notable for the number of minority parties putting up their hand* one such party* Your Voice* brings together a writer* a director and a musician to head up their senate ticket. And leading the ticket is musician and sometimes actor RICHARD FRANKLAND. Rehearsing for his new performance THE CHARCOAL CLUB he took a break to tell us what's coming up on October 9* Item 1: Your Voice (3.25) Starts with: We've got an election* Ends with: *shout me a glass of red. Check out www.yourvoice.org.au for more details. The unsung heroes and heroines of the arts and cultural activities are often the volunteers* And a story that illustrates this well was revealed recently when the State Library of Victoria unveiled two new indexes of historical records in its possession. One was the Darragh Index to the Melbourne German Sick & Relief Society Membership* 1861 to 1924* an early mutual aid society. The other was the Tetlow Index to the Robert K. Cole Collection of Hotel Records: City and Suburban Hotels. The publication of the index in computer-searchable form is the combined result of thirty years of volunteer labour by two people* Item 2: Tetlow Index (4.56) Starts with: Indexes to me* Ends with: * ERIC TETLOW a volunteer with the State Library of Victoria* and it seems ERIC has quite a few years of diligent indexing ahead of him.
