Hi and welcome to Arts Alive, your weekly arts and culture current affairs radio...I'm VINCENT O'DONNELL and I'm JESS MYLES* This week* the Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences is formally established, with an inaugural meeting in Canberra, and a most intriguing conference, the International Conference on Auditory Display is set for Sydney in July.  Our guest is opposition spokes person on the arts, Senator Kate Lundy, we'll check up on events around NAIDOC week especially the NAIDOC Art Awards, and Nina Marie will review*  SHREK 2, in cinemas now*

The inaugural meeting of the Council for the Humanities, Arts and Social Sciences was held in Canberra on the 15th and 16th of June.  The Independent Media Foundation, Arts Alive's parent body is a foundation member, and Kate Stowell went along and prepared this report*  It was not quite what she expected*

 The International Conference on Auditory Display is to quote its press release, "the premier forum for research on the use of sound to display data, monitor systems, and to enhance user interfaces for computers and virtual reality systems".  I'm sure that just means using sounds to convey meanings* but to be sure, Nicole Finflay spoke to on eof the organisers*  Steven Barrass from the CSIRO*

NAIDOC week, the National Aboriginal and Islander Day, Observance Committee's week of celebration of Indigenous culture is almost upon us.  These celebrations can trace their origins back almost sixty years and are observed in all states of Australia. Nicole Findlay spoke with the winner of the NAIDOC Art Awards* JIRRA LULLA HARVEY
