Standing in the middle of MELBOURNE is the State Library of Victoria a
place filled with black marble stair wells¡Kleather bound books and brass
statues. Well¡Kthe library turned 150 last week and was founded by the
infamous Irishman REDMOND BARRY ¡Kalso known as the founder of Melbourne
University and the judge who sentenced NED KELLY to death in 1880. At the
recent birthday celebrations the spirit of the great man could still be
felt in the walls of the state library.
