The Documentary Australia Foundation explores new ways of financing movies with a mission¡K the Dogwood Playwrights from inland Queensland launch Australia's Richest Radio Play Writing Competition¡K and we meet the sculptor behind a memorial to two of the most prominent Indigenous community leaders of the of the 20th Century. Our guest is Kathryn Fox, a GP turned author, whose third novel, Skin and Bone was in the bookshops on 24th October. Her previous two novels, Malicious Intent and Without Consent have been sold to some fifteen countries, many in translation. Clap sticks and didge signal the unveiling of a memorial in bronze¡K statues of the late Pastor Sir Douglas and Lady Gladys Nicholls¡K in Melbourne last Sunday. Sir Doug Nichols was a leading Australian figure in Indigenous culture, the first Indigenous man to be knighted, and the first Indigenous person to hold the high office of governor of an Australian State, South Australia¡K we¡¦ll hear from the sculptor Louis Laumen later. The Documentary Australia Foundation is a new private philanthropic initiative to support documentary film-making by linking philanthropic bodies, charitable organisations and documentary filmmakers in order to enhance their mutual objectives. It is the work on a non-Indigenous sculptor, Louis Laumen. His highly representational works adorn numerous places of worship in Australia, secular and ecclesiastical, such as St Patrick¡¦s Cathedral and the Melbourne Cricket Ground.
