We speak to the author of the research on which the program is based. Our guest is Oliver Streeton. His grandfather was the eminent pioneer of Australian impressionism, the artist Arthur Streeton. Together with Tom Roberts, Charles Condor, Fred McCubbin and Jane Southerland they became known as the Heidleberg School, a name that is as misleading as it is well known, as we shall hear. Still in South Australia ¡Kand Country Arts SA has announced the short-list for the Whyalla Art Prize. This year has seen unprecedented interest in the prize, with some 464 responses to the call for submissions¡K Harry Koch is the co-ordinator to the prize. Long standing listeners to this program may remember that we visited a foundary in rural Victoria for the pouring of one of the bells that now form the Federation Bells Carillion in Birrung Marr on Melbourne¡¦s Yarra bank. The instrument was designed to be controlled by computer with a web interface, accessible world -wide. Darrin Verhagen, is lecturer in sound in the School of Art at RMIT and has been encouraging his student to use the Federation Bells. Track 3: Shadow of Your Love / Shane Howard The Queensland Minister for the Arts, Rod Welford, has just launched Queensland's new $12 million public art fund. Called art+place, the fund will allocate $4 million annually over the next three years to public art commissions. The fund replaces a ¡¥percent for art¡¦ program which expected that 2% of the budget for public capital works would go to art works for the project. That program was reviewed by Professor Michael Keniger, now Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academic, at the University of Queensland and the new program is largely based on his recommendations.
