Our guest is English author David Hewson. His new novel The Promised Land is a radical departure from the familiar territory of his Rome based detective, Nic Costa or his travel writing. A former journalist, Hewson told us he had to murder journalism to become a novelist. Some years ago, a number of large corporations decided to sell the artworks they had acquired since the 1960s. That was when support of the visual arts came on many corporations¡¦ agendas, in part due to the influence of Nugget Coombs who, as governor of the Reserve Bank, established our first ¡¥percent for art program¡¦ in the bank¡¦s new buildings.
