New measure introduced by the Commonwealth government to support the Australian film and television production industry have drawn criticism from independent producers... we have an extended interview on the subject. And also a report on the three month long festival season in Darwin that is now concluded. Last week I mentioned an interview I conducted with New Zealand film producer and academic, Roger Horrocks. We will bring you that interview will on a later program* so this week our guest is Aura Go, a young Australian pianist who is now exploring her interest in conducting. I recorded the interview for today・s program last week while she was working with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, at the Australian national Academy of Music and at the ABC Southbank Melbourne studios. But first a round up of the news* STING NEWS: (Ends approx. 6.00) As mentioned on a previous program, The Commonwealth government has substantially changed the way it supports the film and television production industry. When first introduce almost forth years ago, committees appointed by the Australian Film Commission recommended how government funds were invested or granted to films. Now the mechanisms are to be market-driven and implemented through the taxation system. Independent producers say there are flaws in the system and will disadvantage documentary production and give a free kick to the networks* Ewan Burnett・s production experience is broad covering documentary, television drama and animation. Up in Darwin, there are but two seasons each year* the wet and the dry* and the dry from June to September is also the festival season. The season drew to an end last week with the announcement of the winners in the Fist Full of Films 2007 Awards. So congratulations to Darwin film maker Huni Bolliger who was awarded the Best Film and received the overall Pick of the Crop for her animated film titled "Love From The See;. "Can I Have a Banana Please, Chris", a film by the Gochan Jinny-Jirra community and Formation Studios received Best Actor and the People Choice Award. And congratulations to other winners too.
