On this week・s program* the Australian Business Arts Foundation・s Advice Bank* How does it work and who benefits for the program?  In multicultural Australia, a festival that celebrates the classic and contemporary culture of its country of origin* and Magnormos, a theatrical production company whose founder got a let up from the Commonwealth government・s New Enterprises Incentive Scheme, Magnormois has a schedule of three productions this year.  And our guest is Shane Maloney, author of the popular Murray Whelan series of political thrillers* well soft thrillers* set in the labyrinthine politics of the Victorian ALP in the exile years of the 1990s.  The sixth in the series, titled Sucked In, has just been published* but there may only be one more Murray Whelan outing as he is increasingly being promoted out of harm・s way.

The Australian Business Arts Foundation links the arts and culture community with the business community.  One of its most successful program is called AdviceBank.  Robert Bazzani, the national head of mergers & acquisitions, with KPMG Corporate Finance has played a key role in the development of the program*.

And any arts organisation can tap into the program by contacting the Australian Business Arts Foundation which has representative in all capital cities* and at present they have more business advisors than arts organisations in the program*  The Melbourne Italian Festival is an ethnic festival with a difference.  It celebrates the classic and contemporary culture of its country of origin, rather than what that culture has become in multicultural Australia.  I spoke to festival director Franca Smarelli at the launch of the festival program*

Franca Smarelli, the Director of the Melbourne Italian Festival.  And the festival is quite different in character, Franka told me, to Sydney・s Italian festival  And the festival is on for two weeks from 24 May to 10 June.

The New Enterprise Incentive Scheme commonly referred to as the NEIS program aims to help eligible unemployed start their own businesses.  Aaron Joyner went through the NEIS program six years ago and founded Magnormos, a production company specialising in musical theatre.  It is not yet quite magnificent nor enormous but it is getting there* fuelled by Aaron・s enormous and infectious enthusiasm.  I met him over coffee in Melbourne・s Southbank*

Aaron Joyner, theatrical entrepreneur on the rise* and he is thinking of trying his hand in London・s West End next year.  But before that Magnormos are doing Love Equals at Theatre works in St Kilda at the end of May followed by Flora the Red Menace in July and Mary Bryant in September.  And that is the show for this week.  Next week we meet Katherine Howell, who set her first published novel in the high tension world of the emergency service workers and, like Shane Moloney, makes the city of her choice, in Katherine・s case Sydney, a character in the book*
