the man behind the christmas windows

[vox pops, story, interview - 6 minutes 32 seconds]

Myer Christmas windows, 1997 The Myer Christmas windows in Melbourne's Bourke Street mall is a tradition stretching back more than 40 years to designer Freddy Assmussin. This year Myer's commercial rival, David Jones are following suit in their Sydney store in Elizabeth Street. The windows of both department stores, nevertheless, are the work of John Kerr and Stage One Productions.

But what is John's opinions on the Christmas window displays in Melbourne's Myer becoming an institution in the city? How did he get involved in doing the technically complicated window animations? What decisions are made to choose the themes ideas for the annual Christmas windows, like this year's theme of the Myer's display - the tales of Beatrix Potter? What is the process gone through from the original idea to the finished product?

Nicole Foote spoke to John and find out the answers of the above questions.
